Applet ClassLoader Problem

Hi all,
I experienced a problem which I couldn't solve yet. My applet depends on some third party libraries which are located in a lib/ folder, therefore the archive tag looks like that:
archive="MyApplet.jar,lib/thirdParty1.jar,lib/thirdParty2.jar..."The applet folder consist of: lib/ MyApplet.html MyApplet.jar
If I start the html file from this folder everything works fine, but if I deploy the applet with my webapp to Tomcat and start the applet from a button ( window.open("Applets/MyApplet.html","", att)) the classloader will not find the third party libraries and a java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError exception is thrown(Java Console).
Any advice is highly appreciated.
Stephan

I still don't have a clue what is going on here. In the lib/ I have five third party libraries, three are loading and two throwing above mentioned error. I have downloaded the libraries again compiled my applet and my web app, even signed all jars, but same thing. This is true on Linux and WindowsXP for Firefox, Netscape and IE. I'm using java version 1.5.0_06.
Any help is highly appreciated.
Stephan

  • Applet socket problem in client-server, urgent!

    Dear All:
    I have implemented a client server teamwork environment. I have managered to get the server running fine. The server is responsible for passing messages between clients and accessing Oracle database using JDBC. The client is a Java Applet. The code is like the following. The problem is when I try to register the client, the socket connection get java.security.AccessControlException: access denied(java.net.SocketPermission mugca.its.monash.edu.
    au resolve)
    However, I have written a Java application with the same socket connection method to connect to the same server, it connects to the server without any problem. Is it because of the applet security problem? How should I solve it? Very appreciate for any ideas.

    Hi, there:
    Thanks for the help. But I don't have to configure the security policy. Instead, inspired by a message in this forum, I simply upload the applet to the HTTP server (mugca.its.monash.edu.au) where my won server is running. Then the applet is download from the server and running fine in my local machine.

  • PortableRemoteObject ClassLoader problems in pe8.1

    Hi, I'm in the process of porting a Sun Java Application Server 7 to 8.1 PE and I'm running into ClassLoader problems when I make remote calls into the server. The situation is a little odd in that I've exported a PortableRemoteObject from the BootstrapServlet (too many reasons to go into detail, but it all worked in 7 just fine). Most of the calls I make into the remove server work fine, exception I get ClassNotFound exceptions in the strangest places. For example, I have a SearchCriteria class that I pass as a parameter. It makes it to the server. But, its inner class, Constraint which is static and Serializable, gets a ClassNotFoundException. So I made it Externalizable and finally figured out what was going on.
    The SearchCriteria class loader was set to the WebappClassLoader. But the ObjectInput of readObject was set to AppClassLoader. Now why the AppClassLoader could find SearchCriteria and not its nested class, I do not know.
    So my question is, is there any way to tell the ORB to use the WebappClassLoader instead of the AppClassLoader?

    More information. If I update the calling threads class loader to be the same as the objects class loader, the unaccessible classes can be loaded.
      public void readExternal(ObjectInput in)  throws IOException, ClassNotFoundException
        Thread.currentThread().setContextClassLoader(getClass().getClassLoader());Does this make sense? Seems so out of place.

  • Applet running problem in ie 6.0 under Windows XP

    Applet running problem in ie 6.0 under Windows XP
    I have a PC running Iternet Explorer 6.0 running under Windows XP. I have developed an applet using JDK 1.3 which is running fine with applet viewer , but it is not running in ie. I have installed Netscape navigator and Opera 5. the applet is running fine in both of these browsers but somehow it is not running in IE.
    Later on I upgraded my JDK to 1.4. It also displays use Java2 (V1.4.1) for <applet> (requires restart) tck marked in Advance section under Tools-Options menu of IE.
    I have also tried and set various options in my Control Panels Java Plug-in but all in vain. I have searched the sites for this solution but no one answers specifically.
    I know its a small problem due to discarded JVM in IE under Windows XP but give me solution for that.
    Thanks in Advance

    I have an applet and a flash in two frames in a HTML page. The applet and the falsh app communicate through the Javascript code with in the HTML pages. The flash app does not work as it is supposed to when the applet is present in the Parent HTML page. When I removed the applet, the flash app seems to work ok. But the applcation that I am working needs both of them together. Plz suggest me a solution if you know of any flash and applet related problems.

  • Need help with applet related problems

    First of all hello to everyone. I'm new to this forum. I usually can solve my problems google-ing around, but this time I just ran out of ideas.
    I'm trying to develop a jni applet that can run native code for performance. I used netbeans so far and the applet works great when run from within the ide. At some point a managed to make the applet run inside firefox and iexplore, however somehow i screwed something up and now i can't make it run anymore. I don't really know what i did but i think it may be related to these lines in the console since everything up until awt works fine in the applet:
    basic: JNLP2ClassLoader.findLibrary: Looking up native library: jawt.dll
    network: Looking up native library in: C:\Users\Gladiator\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\10\1082924a-7851bf5e-n\jawt.dll
    basic: Native library jawt.dll not found
    Ofc i may be wrong.
    This also my be a local problem because a friend of mine tried the applet himself and said it's working.
    All the jars are selfsigned.
    below i posted the console output in case you want to take a look. Also I am interested about the "try again.." messages that seem to pop over and over again.

    I am sorry for bold, i came here to ask for help. I used bold to differentiate output from my questions since i couldn't find tags.
    I already validated jnlp using JaNeLA and got only optimization suggestions.
    As I said in first post, this works for a friend of mine, so it's possible a local issue with my java or something ...
    Also i reinstalled jre/jdk 7.0, then uninstalled and installed latest jre/jdk 6.
    Hope I didn't leave a bad impression, i just want help.

  • Java 1.5_13 applet loading problem due to 'activate control' fix

    I updated my JRE to Java 1.5 revision 13, and it seems to introduce a new problem. In order to fix the "click here to activate this control" problem in internet explorer, I iterate the document model and set the outerHTML of the applet tag to the same outerHTML. This removes the annoying rectangle in IE. This also causes the applet to load and break down the first time the page is displayed, because IE removes the old applet instance and creates a new one when replacing the outerHTML. When this happens on the new Java JRE release, an exception is thrown to the user saying:
    java.lang.NullPointerException
         at sun.plugin.AppletViewer.loadJarFiles(Unknown Source)
         at sun.applet.AppletPanel.runLoader(Unknown Source)
         at sun.applet.AppletPanel.run(Unknown Source)
         at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)
    The applet loads correctly, but the message should not be displayed. Also, it only seems to happen sometimes (maybee because sometimes the applet does not yet start before IE runs the script to replace its contents)

    Does anyone know how to fix this new issue? Or does anyone know of a better way to solve the 'activate control' problem in IE that does not cause the reloading of this applet?
    Thanks.

    Hi!
    *1 -* Poor_Sitar_player's solution that i used.
    a - Build the applet's comented code into a div ...
    </div id='555>
    <!--
    <body>
    <applet name="EditoRTFa.class" id='editor' archive="../pages/expediente/Modelo/Editor/EditoRTFa.jar"
    code="br.gov.pa.tj.processo.expediente.casos.editor.EditoRTFa.class" width="750" height="550">
    </applet>
    <body>
    -->
    </div>
    b - After, insert a javascript the will remove the coments....
    <script type="text/javascript">
    var x = document.getElementById('555');
    var texto = x.innerHTML;
    texto = texto.replace('<!--','').replace('-->','');
    x.innerHTML = texto;
    <script type="text/javascript">
    *2 - Another solution*
    If you are using struts2 or your applet is inside a internal frame, is possible that the above solution will not work.
    So, the solution that i found was place the applet code in the main page, with width and heigh iguals "*0*" and style="float: left;" to hide the applet.
    This way, the applet will be load before you call the right page.
    That's all.

  • Static variable, a bug in applet classloader, Java plug-in?

    I found a potential bug in java plug-in.
    Environment,
    1. IE 6.0
    2. Windows XP
    3. JRE 1.3.1.06 and JRE 1.4.1.01
    Steps,
    1. build a very simple applet (attached below)
    2. embed the applet into a .html page.
    3. enable java plug-in for IE and Netscape.
    4. launch the .html page in either of the two browsers.
    5. for the 1st time, I can see 'tmp = 0' in the java console window.
    6. keep the browser open, browse to 'www.google.com'
    7. click 'Back' button of the browser.
    8. I notice 'tmp = 1' in the java console window.
    9. if I browse to google.com and back again, it will display 'tmp = 2'. and the number will keep on increasing if I repeat those steps.
    10. But if I press F5 to refresh the page, the log message will go back to 'tmp = 0'. and if I press 'x' inthe console window to clean up the classloader cache, I will get 'tmp = 0'. If I close the browser and open a new one, I will still get 'tmp = 0', which is what the applet should output.
    11. If I click 't' in the console window to list the thread while I am in the 'google' page, I can't see the applet thread, which means the applet should have been destroyed.
    12. No matter I try 'g' to do garbage collect, or 'f' to finalize objects, the problem still happens. the only solution is what I did in the step 10.
    Is it a bug in the classloader or the JRE itself? Why the value of the static variable won't be cleaned up along with the applet?
    ----------- HERE IS THE APPLET --------------------
    import java.applet.Applet;
    public class AA extends Applet
    private static long tmp = 0;
    public void init() {
         System.out.println("tmp value = " + tmp);
    tmp++;
    public void start() {}
    public void stop() {}
    public void destroy() {}

    Static values are stored in the class. Once a class is loaded into a classloader, it cannot be unloaded (the only thing you can do is use another classloader).
    Apparently, the classloader cache allows sharing of classloaders between applet instances. Perhaps F5 (reload) causes the classloader cache to be cleared.
    I don't see any bug. When developing applications or applets that must run in the same JVM, you should program defensively and avoid using static values which can change over time.

  • GetResources() gives null's after using RMI (ClassLoader problem???)

    Hi
    I have just put RMI into my app and it works fine, connects to a remote server, runs a method on the server and returns the results.
    The problem is when I try to use a line like:
    URL url = MyClass.class.getResources("image/save.gif");
    The url is null. This code will work before my RMI function is run. Also, every dialog the application opens after running RMI has a line at the top of the pane saying: "Java Applet Window".
    Is RMI playing with the Classloader?
    Do I have to instaniate the ClassLoader or do something else to get my resources again and get rid of the text on each of the dialog boxes???
    Thanks in advance.

    if your class is Remote object, you use the RMI CLassLoader when you do:
    URL url = MyClass.class.getResources("image/save.gif");you shoud use instead:
    URL url = Classloader.getSystemResources("image/save.gif");

  • Applet load problem with Linux browsers

    My application uses jsp and applets and I am having a problem loading the applets
    under all Linux browsers. If you switch between the applets rapidly then without fail you will get yourself into a state where the applets do not load (you see the applet
    splash screen and that's it). When you are in this state you cannot load any future applets from this browser. You have to kill the browser and start it again to load the applet. I have tested this with Galeon 1.2.6, Mozilla 1.0.1, and Netscape 7.0 with versions 1.4.1_01, 1.4.0_01, and 1.3.1_05. Can anyone shed some light on this problem? A thread dump shows that there are many threads waiting on monitors that I am afraid will never get notified since I have clicked onto another applet. Thanks for any insight...

  • Applet Deployment Problem

    I have produced an applet which runs fine in Eclipse. There is already an applet on the server which works fine. However the new applet returns the following error:

    I used the following HTML to insert the applet
                        <object classid="java:Applet_Control.class"
                                  type="application/x-java-applet"
                                  archive="/Applet/hang_cipher.jar"
                                  height="800" width="710" >

                        </object>
                        <!--[if !IE]>-->
                        </object>
                        <!--<![endif]-->
    Can anyone spot a problem here or suggest steps to debug the problem. I have tried using a different computer with no success.
    The applet can be found here http://www.computingscotland.org/hangcipher.php

    I have changed the html to:
                        <!--[if !IE]>-->
                        <object classid="java:hang_cipher.Applet_Control.class"
                                  type="application/x-java-applet"

                        <!--[if !IE]>-->

  • Applet failed problem

    Hi!
    Im new to working with Java applets. I am going to describe my problem with the applet I have written and all the circumstances of it because maybe I have missed out some little detail that somebody can point out.
    So, I was given the assignment of modifying my Professor's applet a little bit. The structure of the code was class example1 extends class table extends class BufferedApplet. I made the changes to the applet using Netbeans IDE 4.1. So the applet runs perfectly in the applet viewer, and the HTML page created by the netbeans on running the example1.java code also works fine if I open it from the build folder using firefox, or explorer.
    So I thought, great, I got my assignment done. We must post the applet on our website for it to get graded. So I uploaded the example1.class file and the example1.html file to the same directory on the webpage. I added table.class and BufferedApplet.class as well, just to be safe. All three source files are also in the same directory, coz we have to provide links to them for the assignment.
    Now, when I open the webpage, it wont display the applet. It shows me a white box with a red cross in the top left corner and gives me the message "loading java applet failed". sometimes, there are variations like "example not inited" or "java.lang.NullPointerException"... Here is what the Sun Java console had to say:

    If you need to modify this HTML launcher file (e.g., to add applet parameters),
    copy it to where your applet class is found in the SRC folder. If you do this,

It shows me a white box with a red cross in the top left corner and gives me the message "loading java applet failed". sometimes, there are variations like "example not inited" or "java.lang.NullPointerException"... Here is what the Sun Java console had to say:

  • 64-bit JNI C++ to JAVA invocation multiple threads classloader problem

    Hi ALL,
    I have a C++ app that invokes Java classes on 64-bit Solaris 10 with 64-bit JVM.
    Here is the problem:
    The native non-main (not the thread that initializes the JVM) threads would not be able to find any user-define class.
    Here are the symptoms and observations:
    1. JNIEnv::ExceptionDescribe() showed the following StackOverflowError:
    Exception in thread "Thread-0" java.lang.StackOverflowError
            at java.util.Arrays.copyOf(Arrays.java:2734)

            at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:252)
            at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClassInternal(ClassLoader.java:320)2. The "main thread" that instantiates the JVM has no problem finding and loading any class or method
    3. But the other threads (non-main threads) would not be able to find the user-defined classes unless the classes were already loaded by the main thread.
    4. The non-main threads can find the "standard" java classes with no problem
    5. The same app ran fine on 32-bit system.
    6. Except for the JVM reference is global, each thread acquired JNIEnv by either GetEnv() or AttachCurrentThread().
    Any idea why it is a problem with 64-bit?
    I have the sample program to reproduce this issue in this thread: http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10885363&#10885363. That was the original thread I raised but I have narrowed it down to a more concrete scenario. That's why I am creating this new thread. I hope this does not break any rule on this forum. If it does, I apologize.
    I really appreciate it if anyone can provide any help/suggestion.
    Regards,
    - Triet

    Here is the sample program. Again, this works on 32-bit but not 64-bit.

  • Seam on Weblogic 10.3.2: Possible classloader problem?

    Hi all,
    I have a problem deploying a Seam 2.2.0.GA application on WebLogic 10.3.2. I use JRockit 1.6.0_14, Richfaces 3.2.0.GA and Facelets 1.1.14 and the Server is deployed on Windoes XP 32bit. The application has the following structure:
    application.ear
    |--> APP-INF
    | |--> classes
    | |--> lib (all jar dependencies go here, including the WAR dependencies, EJB module dependencies)
    |-->META_INF
    | |--> application.xml
    | |--> data-sources.xml
    | |--> MANIFEST.MF
    | |--> weblogic.xml
    | |--> weblogic-application.xml
    |--> jboss-seam-2.2.0.GA.jar (is an EJB module)
    |--> myEjbModule1.jar
    |--> myEjbModule2.jar
    |--> myEjbModule3.jar
    |--> myEjbModule4.jar
    |--> myWar.war (NO libraries in WEB-INF/lib, finds everything in EAR/lib)
    JBoss Seam is an EJB module. and is declared as such in application.xml. Everything is OK, since the application loads correctly. The jar contains a faces.config registering the SeamPhaseListener on JSF, so that Seam actually works.
    Problems start when I try to enable the debug page of Seam. In order to do this, one must include in the classpath the jboss-seam-debug.jar (in APP-INF/lib or EAR/lib, here I am using the first). This jar has its own faces.config, which registers the Seam*Debug*PhaseListener on JSF, so that it catches debug requests.
    When deploying WITH jboss-seam-debug.jar, the application does not appear, but ONLY the debug page with the following exception (stacktrace at the end):
    Exception during request processing:
    Caused by java.lang.IllegalStateException with message: "No phase id bound to current thread (*make sure you do not have two SeamPhaseListener instances installed*)"
    This probably signifies a classloader issue. So, I have two questions:
    1. Has anyone deployed JBoss Seam on WenLogic WITH the debug page? If yes, is the structure of my project correct?
    2. Is there a way to debug the classloading of WebLogic? What I would find helpful would be to see what happens that registers the SeamPhaseListener more than one times.
    Note: When "JBoss-izing" the same EAR (remove hibernate jars, which are provided by JBoss, and move all libraries from EAR/lib to EAR root), the application loads correctly. BOTH the application AND the debug page appear correctly.

    The problem was the name of the Seam EJB module. Changing the jar to jboss-seam.jar, everything worked. This issue does not appear on JBoss 4.2.3.GA, where I also tested.

  • Opening and closing a frame from an applet security problem

    can I open a frame or a window from an applet and close the frame by using
    System.exit(0) for the frame or will it throw a security problem.

    I am using system.exit(0) to exit the JVM.
    dispose()
    Releases all of the native screen resources used by this Window, its subcomponents, and all of its owned children. That is, the resources for these Components will be destroyed, any memory they consume will be returned to the OS, and they will be marked as undisplayable.
    If this frame have to be close and open again don't use dispose.
    there is no check whether a frame is active? what you can do is set the the new frame to null (frame = null) and also when you dispose it, this will let you know if the frame is active or not.
