Applet loaded in applets?

hi all,
I'm trying a java applet for jre1.0.
it is supposed to first paint background color and the words that says loading.
then it's supposed to load classes images etc as need in the background -- ideally showing a nice status bar of progress.
I'm guessing that to accomplish this, I would cast the existing thread (the one created in the start method of the first applet ex Thread runner = new Thread(this) ) to another class and let that class take over the loading process
could someone please explain the general approach for having new classes that take over what is happennig on the applet screen
Thanks in advance
Stephen

I'm not sure how you'd go about getting the current progress ..
public class MyApplet extends Applet {
    init() {
        setLayout(new BorderLayout());
        add(new ProgressPanel());
    start() {
        ClassLoader loader = new URLClassLoader(secondURL);
        Class panelClass = loader.findClass("MyPanel");
        add((Panel)panelClass.newInstance());
}I think URLClassLoader is Java 1.2. If you need it under 1.1 you might need to do it some other way.

  • Applet loads NT applet wont load XP

    I am trying to display an applet on a web page within our intranet. The applet loads without conflict in NT but will not load in XP. Java plug-in 1.3.1 is my default plug-in. 1.4.1 is loaded as well. I found that if I remove 1.3.1 and 1.4.1 install 1.2.2 the applet plays as if I was running NT. But running 1.2.2 as the default plug in, in our XP image is not feasable. Anyone know why this applet will play in one OS and not the other?

    Well, now what do you mean that it won't load? I am running, and have run, SDKs 1.2.2 thru 1.4.1 and their associated runtime environs with XP prof and win 2K and am not having a problem.
    Make sure you really have the proper runtime installed
    http://java.sun.com/getjava/index.html
    Make sure your browser is pointing to the right runtime and not the crappy default MS shit.
    There are issues with java 1.4+ using the java 3d libs having trouble with ATI video drivers. If that's your problem, it crashes. There are several bug reports.
    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4713003.html
    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4749817.html
    Take a look at the bug database if that doesn't help.
    Doing a search for your specific symptoms would be your best bet -- you can specify how much of the sun site you want searched -- at least hit the forums (all) and the bug databases.
    As to why nobody helped, most anybody'd need to know more about what's going on to really help you and it's been hard to get into the forums the last couple days. Maybe nobody has the right answer at hand. There are a lot of links to 1.3 and 1.4 problems with XP, but I think they mostly boil down to one or more of the above. SEARCH!
    Like I said, I run dual boot XP prof and SUSE Linux on a newer Sony Viao laptop with java 1.2.2 and up (switching SDKs as needed) without a prob. My stand JRE is whatever JDK I'm running or the latest download from sun. I don't have an ATI video card.
    Luck.

  • Applet Loading Failed

    Hi ,
    when Im running my first applet program I get an error in the browser
    Applet Loading failed
    Applet not inited
    but when I run through command line i.e./usr/java/jdk1.5.0_03/bin/appletviewer /home/root/Hello.html
    It works very cutely.
    What could be the problem
    my Enviornment variables are as follows
    PATH="$PATH:/usr/java/jdk1.5.0_03/bin:."
    export PATH
    JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/jdk1.5.0_03/
    export JAVA_HOME
    CLASSPATH=/usr/java/jdk1.5.0_03/lib/tools.jar
    export CLASSPATH
    Can some one help me out

    use the htmlconverter tool in the jdk bin direcotory.
    The applet tag has been depreciated for some time now and should be used with legacy
    applets (msjvm) allthough the jre installation is pretty eagor to run those applets for you
    it can't in most cases (com.ms packeges).
    The object tag should be used when your applet is above java version 1.1.2 or msjvm
    might be trying to run an applet it can'r run.

  • Multiple instances of the same applet loaded causes problem

    I have a java applet that has several classes in the project. The applet has a JTable a JButton and a JLabel control. The applet is displayed within an HTML page. The problem is that if a user opens the same html page more than once with the applet in it, only the last applet loaded receives the screen updates.
    For example in one senario. I have an error message that displays in the Label control once they click on the button.
    The user opens the html page and the applet is loaded (window 1). The user then opens the same html page again (window 2) with window 1 still open. If the user clicks on the Button in window 1, the error message is displayed in the window 2 applet.
    Originally I had some static variables. Thinking it was being used globally by the JVM so I removed all of them and it still happens. I have tried using both the Applet and Object tag. But it still happens.
    Has anyone experienced this before? Any suggestions on how to make the applet update the instance that recieved the events and not just the last one that was loaded?

    You need to look at applet classloader issues. If applets have the same archive list and come from the same codebase, they have the same classloader. A class is namespaced by it's class + classloader. Any statics in a class with a classloader will be shared. If you instead make it such that your applets have unique classloaders (which you can't change for unsigned applets by yourself) by changing the codebase, that would be one solution.
    For other solutions, I recommend searching the forum. This issue comes up a lot.

    Thanks.A long-running init() or start() method of the applet. I guess you better do something about your own code then.

  • Unable to clear java cache and also unable to load JAVA Applets when QTP installed in PC

    Hi,
    I am facing a problem when QTP 11.0 along with Java 6 Update 22 and Java Plugin  installed in the PC. The Java Applets are not being loaded in the webpages, when I try to load it through QTP, but when I try to load the applets manually that is working fine. Can anyone suggest any kind of solution for this. All the setup was being run on 32-bit and 64- bit PC's.
    Thanks in advance,
    Waiting for the reply.

    start the weblogic server with the command startWeblogic. And then start the SOA server from Admin console.This is the issue. For starting servers from console, you need to configure node manager. Start SOA servers from command line using command startManagedWeblogic (as mentioned in Quick Start Guide for BAM server).

  • Java 1.5_13 applet loading problem due to 'activate control' fix

    I updated my JRE to Java 1.5 revision 13, and it seems to introduce a new problem. In order to fix the "click here to activate this control" problem in internet explorer, I iterate the document model and set the outerHTML of the applet tag to the same outerHTML. This removes the annoying rectangle in IE. This also causes the applet to load and break down the first time the page is displayed, because IE removes the old applet instance and creates a new one when replacing the outerHTML. When this happens on the new Java JRE release, an exception is thrown to the user saying:
    java.lang.NullPointerException

         at sun.applet.AppletPanel.runLoader(Unknown Source)
         at sun.applet.AppletPanel.run(Unknown Source)
         at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)
    The applet loads correctly, but the message should not be displayed. Also, it only seems to happen sometimes (maybee because sometimes the applet does not yet start before IE runs the script to replace its contents)

    Does anyone know how to fix this new issue? Or does anyone know of a better way to solve the 'activate control' problem in IE that does not cause the reloading of this applet?
    Thanks.

    Hi!
    *1 -* Poor_Sitar_player's solution that i used.
    a - Build the applet's comented code into a div ...
    </div id='555>
    <!--
    <body>
    <applet name="EditoRTFa.class" id='editor' archive="../pages/expediente/Modelo/Editor/EditoRTFa.jar"
    code="br.gov.pa.tj.processo.expediente.casos.editor.EditoRTFa.class" width="750" height="550">
    </applet>
    <body>
    -->
    </div>
    b - After, insert a javascript the will remove the coments....
    <script type="text/javascript">
    var x = document.getElementById('555');
    var texto = x.innerHTML;
    texto = texto.replace('<!--','').replace('-->','');
    x.innerHTML = texto;
    <script type="text/javascript">
    *2 - Another solution*
    If you are using struts2 or your applet is inside a internal frame, is possible that the above solution will not work.
    So, the solution that i found was place the applet code in the main page, with width and heigh iguals "*0*" and style="float: left;" to hide the applet.
    This way, the applet will be load before you call the right page.
    That's all.

  • ClassFormatError when attempting to load an applet from within a JSP

    Greetings everyone.
    I have a problem that i seem unable to solve.
    I've created a web application. I'm using Java 1.4.2_05 and Tomcat. Right now i'm trying to load an applet from a JSP and i'm getting an error that, try as i might, i can't understand why it happens.
    Here is some detailed info:
    The applet's code:
    package smpb.myapp.controllers;
    import java.applet.Applet;
    import java.awt.Graphics;
    public class GUIApplet extends Applet
         public void init()
         public void stop()
         public void paint(Graphics g)
                  g.drawString("Hey hey hey",20,20);
               g.drawString("Hellooo World",20,40);
    The JSP's code:
    <%@ page language="java"
                   import="java.util.*"
                   session="true" %>
    <%
         String name = (String) request.getSession().getAttribute("userName");
    %>
    <html>
         <head>
              <title>Login</title>
         </head>
         <body>

I've checked and rechecked to see if all the permissions to access the jar file were accurate, i checked to see if Tomcat had it's MIME settings correctly configured so that there was no chance that the files were being corrupted during the load (as that is a usual cause for the problem, or so i've gathered) but to no avail. I've searched the web, including these forums, and found similar problems but no conclusive solution. I can't seem to figure out, at all, what could possibly be wrong. Does anyone have any ideas? I've tried to be as thorough as i could from the start, so, any help would be deeply appreciated.

    Hi mshah101,
    This can happen if the applet is compiled using an higher version of java and the browser is pointing to an older version (even if minor version number is higher)

  • How to load an Applet application for 1000cards?

    Hi Friends..
    I want to know How to load an Applet application for 1000cards?..
    Assume that, i have an Applet application that need to loaded into 1000cards..
    So, how to solve this?
    Do i must to load an application manually for each card?
    Is there any another way?
    Thanks in advance..

    for 1000 cards you can use a "small" printer like an evolis "dualis" or something like that
    we've produced thousands of cards with this method in my company.
    the pro is that you can also print the cards in the same time.
    they usually have simple APIS like get_new_card_from_loader(), put_card_on_contacts(), eject_card()
    you can connect any reader on the printer , the raw card contacts are available on a connector.
    some printers also have contactless couplers.
    but remember that deploying cards in the field is not just loading an applet.
    it's also a cryptographic challenge, you need to change the card keys or anyone will be able to play with your cards, adding and removing applets as they want.
    typically this is achieved by using an ultra secret mother key and whatever derivation algorithm you like using data from INIT UPDATE as diversifier. example, you can TDES cipher part of the INIT UPDATE data using the mother key as TDES key, or use something involving SHA1, using a HSM if you are serious, etc.
    for your entertainment here is a high volume card personnalization machine. That's amazing.

  • Facing the problem in loading the applet in mozilla, Firefox and netscape

    Dear sir,
    Well I am facing the problem regarding loading of applet in firefox,mozilla and netscape. Its working fine in IE6 I have the samplecode which asks for jdk1.4 whenever the applet gets loaded in IE6 and also it works fine for every browser but he is asking jre for every time whenever the page gets loaded even if the jre is installed. I need a code such that it should ask only if the jre is not installed. One more thing is it so that for mozilla or netscape the jre installation files are different.
    pls give the solution.
    Well I am also facing the problem like when I load login page of my applicatoin in netscape or firefox
    I provided the buton on login page on which the hyperlink is present, the hyperlink is of servlet path when I click on the same it shows me the blank page instead he should forward the page to the next jsp webpage where I am showing the applet. But it works fine in IE versions and opera but not in the others.
    Awating for your reply.

    Hi
    My applet suffered from the same Exception, using J2SE1.4.2_01 and J2SE1.4.2_02. My Applet consists of three Jars:
    1. The Applet (which uses JCE API / signed with my cert)
    2. JCE Provider (reduced to the necessary classes / signed by provider)
    3. Unsigned classes
    I was able to solve the problem by adding a second signature to the second JAR File (JCE Provider).
    My humble conclusion:
    Allways sign all classes which need to be signed with your own certificate, even sign those classes wich are allready signed by the JCE Provider.
    Hope this helps!
    Regards,
    Ramon Keller

    </APPLET>
    I works in JBuilder 5.0 and inside it, this works well, but when

    Try to write the path to the applet after "codebase". Maybe it will help.
    Ex. <applet code="test.class" codebase="test/classes">

    Does anybody has a document that explains DAP and the security mechanism for JCOP 2.4.1.The GP card spec defines the DAP process. Version 2.1.1 has this in section 7.5 with further information throughout the document. The card spec is freely available from the GP website.
