Applet without browser

Hi
How do i execute applets without using a browser or the appletviewer .
Basically i want to develop an application using applets only . The application will not have any browsers.
Is this possible . If yes how ?.
Regards
Ajoy

Take this program, change TheApplet to youe applet name and run it.
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
public class bullM extends Frame
     TheApplet   applet = TheApplet  ();
public bullM()
     super();
     setLayout(new BorderLayout());
     setBounds(6,6,740,470);
     addWindowListener(new WindowAdapter()
    {     public void windowClosing(WindowEvent ev)
               applet.stop();
               applet.destroy();
               dispose();
               System.exit(0);
     add(applet,BorderLayout.CENTER);
     setVisible(true);
     applet.init();
     applet.start();
public static void main (String[] args)
     new bullM();

  • File upload applet without browsing

    hi all,
    i m a php developer, i need a java applet to be embedded in html, that contains a button (upload), on clicking that all text files from a predefined location, without browsing, in the clients computer could be uploaded to server.
    help me from the scratch.
    thankyou

    Applets are a PITA. Applets that deal with the local file system need to have 'full trust' and that is a complete PITA, especially with the Vista UAC problem that restricts even trusted applets to a particular set of sub-directories (in user.home, AFAIR).
    A better strategy might exist if you can..
    a) write to a ZIP archive from PHP? (which can reduce all the reports to being contained in a single file*).
    b) Invoke 'shell commands' from PHP, as you might from the command line interface, the Windows Command Prompt?
    If both those answers are 'yes', I would recommend dumping the applet for a JWS launched application that uses the JNLP API's [file service|http://pscode.org/jws/api.html#fs].
    Try especially the sandboxed version of the demo.
    Using webstart, this might all be achieved 'sandboxed'.
    It would work like this.
    The PHP script writes all the reports to a single zip archive with file extension '.reportarchive' instead of '.zip'.
    After the reports are prepared and stored, two shell commands are required.
    javaws -import -association -silent http://www.our.com/upload.jnlp
    ..and..
    javaws -open C:/the/path/the.reportarchive http://www.our.com/upload.jnlp
    The first installs the uploader application to the user cache, while the second tells webstart to open the uploader app. with the reportarchive file name as the runtime argument.
    Once the user has OK'd the access to the reportarchive, the rest (uploading it) can be done automatically (with a progress bar).
    * Note that if you cannot easily write a Zip using PHP (shrugs) that .reportarchive file type might instead be a .reportlist which simply contains the path/names of the other report files.
    If the user fails to select the 'always allow' option for the file list, they will be prompted for each file (until they do). The advantage of the archive is that the user is only ever asked once.
    And as an aside, how exactly is the PHP script invoked to run?
    Note that a good way to indicate interest in a solution is to add [Duke stars|http://wikis.sun.com/display/SunForums/Duke+Stars+Program+Overview] to match that interest.

  • Running Applet without Browser

    Hello All,
    I've developed a test applet which contains a button.
    When i click the button a Frame opens and does whatever i try to do,
    Thus,to Run my applet i type the URL in the Browser and click the button to open the Frame.
    My Problem is the Frame is destroyed as soon as the browser is closed!
    I need the frame to be browser independent.
    Could anybody suggest me how this would be possible?
    Thank you!

    Applets are intended to be run in browsers.
    There is a program included with the JDK that can run an applet - look for the appletviewer program. There are insructions on its use in the Java tools documentation.
    It sounds like you should be running a Java application, not an applet.

  • Help: how can web form shown without browser frame at all

    Hi,
    I upgraded to 9i form from 6.0. I want to show form without browser frame. So I used seperateFrame=true in formsweb.cfg and I use IE=JInitiator. (I tried to use IE=native, which didn't work). I have form developer installed in my window 2000 computer and tested it, it did show applet without browser. However, when I deployed to Unix AS, it still embeded in browser frame with same configuration file. I don't know why. Could someone give me some suggestions? I really need to take off the browser frame (just taking off toolbar or task bar,etc is not good enough). Also, can someone tell me what else need to be done without using JInitiator and if it will take the browser frame off too? Thanks,
    Sa

    When you say "the same configuration file" do you mean literally the same configuration file i.e. a copy of the file uploaded via FTP (or similar)? If so, did you run the dos2unix command (or similar) to strip out the spurious control characters?
    Cheers, APC

  • How to run Java 3D Applet without install java3d

    I've written a java3d applet, and it runs correctly in browser on my computer. Now I want it can be run on other computers which havent' Java3d installed. If the program runs as application, then we can use jnlp and web-start to solve this problem. But what about applet? How can I do it just like the application?
    Pls help me!

    Hello. I read this article too. It sounds interesting but I have some questions. The example is given for win32 and what about other OSs and platforms? Sun provides different libraries for different OS. According to this article it is possible to run applets without previous installation of Java3D and if a user runs Windows 2000, Java3D libraries will be downloaded and installed from the location pointed out by the programmer. But how to do this for all OSs and all platforms and architectures so that if a user doesn't have Java3D installed on his/her computer, might to see the applet in his/her browser? Is it the only way that a programmer needs to include into "loader_singed.jar" all possible libraries for all possible platforms?

  • Run applets without JRE

    Hello to all developers,
    I know that to run applets in IE we should have the JRE installed on our machines. But is there any way that we can run applets without the JRE being installed on our machines. I have also heard of something called as the Microsoft JVM. How can we use it to run the java applets.
    Thanking in advance.

    The Microsoft JVM is extremely outdated and not recommended at all. You can't really run a Java applet without a JVM, and I'm not sure if any but the one Sun makes comes with a browser plugin.

  • JMF Applet without client side installation

    Hello everybody,
    is it possible that a client (applet in browser) receives a video-stream (from a server) without having jmf installed on its local disk?
    Thanks for any advice
    Chris

    Yeah, if you make your applet link to the JMF.jar file and use a video format supported by the cross-platform pack.

  • JAVA APPLET WITHOUT MINIMISE OR CLOSE BUTTON

    Sirs,
    I am one of the student of Diploma in Computer Technology. As part of our curriculam we are now doing a project using JAVA. Our project is to create a CYBER CAFE Software to track each systems of the CYBER CAFE. Each registered user needs to enter USERNAME and Password before doing browsing.
    How we will create an username and password entry applet without MINIMISE OR CLOSE Button. That means.. he/she should enter the username and password. He should not skip this process.
    Other processes are over and we are waiting for a solution for this process only. Waiting for your early reply. Send ur reply to [email protected]

    Here's an idea. Write an http proxy server (or find some open source proxy server). The proxy server should be customized so that if it is not "enabled", it returns an error page saying that the user must sign in using the SignIn application. The SignIn application is simply a Java application which accepts a name and password, then enables the proxy. Then simply configure the browser to connect through your proxy, and you're good to go.

  • JMF Applet without JMF installed

    How can I run the JMF Applet without installing JMF on very client before?
    I already tried to archive the jmf.jar and sound.jar and I found a code:
    <object classid="clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93" width="100%" height="100%" codebase="http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.2.2/jinstall-1_2_2-win.cab#Version=1,2,2,0"></p>
         <param name="java_code" value="javamediaplayer.SimplePlayerApplet">
         <param name="java_codebase" value="browser/applet/">
         <param name="java_archive" value="javamediaplayer.jar,jmf.jar">
         <param name="type" value="application/x-java-applet;version=1.3">
         <param name="FILE" value="myAudioFile.wav">
    but I don't know how to use it!!!
    PLEASE help me!!!!
    THX!

    Hi
    I wrote this code to play my JMF applet:
    <applet
    code=simpleplayerapplet.SimplePlayerApplet
    ARCHIVE="jmf.jar,customizer.jar,mediaplayer.jar,multiplayer.jar,sound.jar"
    width=320 height=300>
    <param name=file value="musica.mp3">
    </applet>
    It works fine, and the applet starts normally. I have another kind of problem: what I want to play is an mp3. So I downloaded the Sun mp3 plg-in and installed it in my test machine, wich have JMF installed. The applet runs ok. But when I try to test in a machine without JMF (but with the Sun mp3 plug-in installed) i get the Unable to handle format: mpeglayer3 exception. I won't print the stack trace because is a common exception related with the plug-in. What am I doing wrong? I thought that the plug-in was necessary and sufficient for a client to play my test applet.

  • Java application communicate with java card applet without java card

    Can I write java application to communicate with java card applet without using java card?
    Can I send APDU to java card applet on computer(not install in java card)? If it's not, how can I write?
    Best Regard,
    Thanawan

    Your JCOP simulator implements a JCVM/JCRE according
    to specs. The CREF does that same thing excepts it's
    only simulates the API without crypto or third party
    applets. JCOP simulator is more then that. They are using thesame_ codebase for simulator and for oncard JCVM. Basically you are dealing with the same environment in both cases.

  • Help: how to show 9i forms without browser

    Hi, I want to show 9i forms in separate frame without browser, and I use JInitiator. I use separateFrame=true, which worked. But my question is since I don't need the browser, I want to close it. The problem is it'll close the form too. I think the reason for that is the browser is the parent of the form. Can someone tell me whether is possible to close the browser page without closing the actual form? or is there any other way to display actual form without the browser frame. Please help! Thanks,
    Sa

    Thanx for ur reply,
    Actually the senario is when i click on a button, another jsp page should be displayed in a modal window without popup, but the functions alert() and confirm() will not accept the url path of the another jsp page...

  • Applet without JMF installation at client side

    hello,
    I am trying developing an applet SIP phone based on Jain Sip Applet Phone( which originally can only deal with audio signal). But I found a big problem that I have to make every client install the JMF, however the clients hope there is no software to be installed locally.
    In application, I can run it without JMF installation by copying all the dlls to system32 directory and add some related JMF source code into my own project. Or just simply put the jmf.property to the "lib" directory, which also works.
    However, as for the applet, it dosen't that simple for the security thing. Here is the output in cosole:

    java.lang.RuntimeException: No permission to capture from applets

          I found that my applet can detect two device which is correct but has "no permission to capture from applets".
          In the progress of installation the JMF, and option is "permit recording from an applet". I read the source code, and found it dose the following works:
          if I choose "permit recording from an applet",  then "allowCapture=1", and in "settingPanel.java" it dose:
         "boolean allowCapture = checkAllowCapture.getState();
          Registry.set("secure.allowCaptureFromApplets", new Boolean(allowCapture));"
          I want to do what the installation progress did to give permition to applet, however, when I do the following:
           private static final String PROP_ALLOW_CAPTURE_FROM_APPLETS
            = "secure.allowCaptureFromApplets";
           Registry.set(PROP_ALLOW_CAPTURE_FROM_APPLETS, new Boolean(true));
           Registry.commit();
          in my project , it throws exception like this: "Failed to initially commit JMFRegistry. Ignoring err.java.lang.SecurityException: commit: Permission denied"
          The code which i thought could give applet the rights is denied.
          Till now, I have also read some similar questions in different forums, but there is no good answer.

    ..I am trying developing an applet SIP phone based on Jain Sip Applet Phone( which originally can only deal with audio signal). If this is pure audio, can it be done using JavaSound?
    ..But I found a big problem that I have to make every client install the JMF, however the clients hope there is no software to be installed locally.To run an applet, the applet needs to be 'installed' on the user machine. Same with anything else.
    BTW - have you investigated JavaFX? It is effectively the replacement for JMF, and possibly has a better end-user experience than trying to install JMF.
    However, as for the applet, it dosen't that simple for the security thing. Here is the output in cosole:
    in my project , it throws exception like this: "Failed to initially commit JMFRegistry. Ignoring err.java.lang.SecurityException: commit: Permission denied"Is your applet digitally signed? If not, it has no hope of intercepting sound on the client. It is that simple.
    Imagine if you visited a web page with a 1px x 1px applet (effectively invisible) that could hear everything you say, and transmit it back to the server. Sun is not about to allow that, unless the end-user has granted the applet extended permissions.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the info. I was thinking that the note didn't work for me, apparently I didn't use the conventional APPLET tag.
    Is there other way to switch JRE if I'm not using APPLET tag?
