Applet won't load in IE7

I have an applet that works perfectly in Firefox on Linux. But when I tried to test it with IE7 on Windows, I never saw the applet at all. The Java console showed no errors. I have a feeling it is the object tag I am using. I need to pass data back and forth between the page and the applet, so I must use the mayscript parameter. As far as I know, the mayscript parameter is not available from the applet tag, which is deprecated anyway I think.
Below is the code I am using to load the applet. For reasons of my own, I changed the archive name to myapplet.jar and the package path to path/dir, but I am pretty sure these parameters are not the problem. The applet was created with version 1.5.0_06.

</object>Any ideas why the applet doesn't load on IE7/Windows?

If the other machine doesn't have a Java runtime (JRE) equivalent to Sun J2Re ver. 1.4.0_01 or later installed, that is probably the cause.
If one is installed. chech the Java plugin and make sure it's enabled.

  • Trying to play cards on Yahoo and applet won't load

    The applet that opens the room I want to play in won't load. I just get a blank page.
    I have done all the things that Yahoo suggest, re cache etc and it still won't load.
    I even reloaded java.

    Try rebooting the device.  press and hold the home and power buttons until the Apple icon is displayed, then let go.

    java applets will not load,
    i have run the java test page & i have the latest version installed.
    have removed all old versions of java from my hard drive & restarted the computer.
    i have checked that java is enabled in the plug-ins and it is with version se 6 u22, also something called java development toolkit 6.0.220.4 np runtime script plug-in library for java (tm) deploy.
    if i click on java console in tolls nothing happens

    Hi,
    You might want to look in your control panel for 'Java' icon. It should give you an option to enable java plugin into your browser. Let me know if you still face the issue.
    Thanks!

  • I have windows 7 , I was able to access games rooms in yahoo, now the game applet won.t load. I am a computer dummy so all the info on resitting plug ins is unintellegable to me. So can you please give me a simple plain english solution. Thank you.

    I don't know if the problem is due to java or firefox or some other program being updated. It does not matter which game I try to play. I get the popup requesting the authentication code and I type it in. I then get the game room applet but it will not load, even when I click on the click here spot if the applet fails to load.

    It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
    First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/baddns.php
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/hackedrouter.php
    If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
    As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?

  • I like to play cards on Yahoo. I can get into the program, but the room page, applet won't load.

    I can get into Yahoo, and the 'gin' site, but when I try to go to a room to play, the page won't load. It's just blank. I've tried all the things, like emptying cache, and it doesn't help.

    I suspect the software was originally designed for PPC based Macs and is simply not designed to run on 10.6.7. I would recommend contacting the manufacturer and asking the correct way to uninstall they're application.
    After uninstalling I would run Repair Disk Permissions in Disk Utility and if necessary do a SMC reset using the following instructions:
    SMC RESET
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
    • Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    • Release the power button.
    • Attach the computers power cable.
    • Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Java Applet won't load when a JavaScript variable "this.Document" is used.

    Hi,
    Creating a "this.Document" variable within JavaScript interferes with some versions of Java. So far it breaks on the following versions, using IE7 on Windows XP:
    * JRE 6.0 Update 7
    * JRE 6.0 Update 6
    * JRE 6.0 Update 5
    * JRE 6.0 Update 4
    [Due to time constraints JRE 6.0 to JRE 6.0 Update 3 were not tested]
    * JRE 5.0 Update 22
    [Due to time constraints JRE 5.0 Update 16 to JRE 5.0 Update 21 were not tested]
    * JRE 5.0 Update 15
    [Due to time constraints JRE 5.0 Update 1 to JRE 5.0 Update 14 were not tested]
    * JRE 5.0
    The following HTML demonstrates this problem when you have any of the above versions of Java installed:
    <html>
        <head>
            <title>Java Bug</title>
            <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
                this.Document = 'string'; // Remove this line to get it to work again
            </script>
        </head>
        <body style="background-color:black">
            <applet id="testVM" alt="Something is wrong. Java is not working."
                codebase="http://www.java.com/applet" code="testJava2_1/TestVMApplet"
                archive="TestVM2-test.jar" width="500" height="280">
                <param name="locale" value="en" />
                <param name="titleSize" value="22" />
                <param name="subtitleSize" value="18" />
            </applet>
        </body>
    </html>The page only displays a white box where the Java Applet should be. If you then remove the "this.Document" variable or simply rename it to something else then the applet loads without problems. Normally I would just use a different variable name but the variable name is placed within the Mootools JavaScript Framework and is not easily changed without forking my own project.
    Does anyone know why this happens and if it can be fixed without having to update to the latest version of Java?
    Thanks

    'this.document' is a predefined variable that defines the URL source of the current page. If you are referring to the predefined variable that provides access to the Document Object Model then I believe you are mistaken, that is 'window.document' or just 'document'.
    EJP wrote:
    Your name either conflicts with that or is getting confused with it somewhere.The 'document' variable is a parent of the window object e.g. 'window.document' but my variable has the context of 'this'. That means 'this.document.URL' returns 'undefined' instead of the URL for the current page.
    JavaScript is also case sensitive so 'document.URL' is not the same as 'Document.URL', the last of which returns 'undefined'.
    If Java relealy was confusing my variable with the predfined one then I would expect the same behaviour if I were to use differnt variations of the variable. However the follwoing JavaScript doesnt affect the Applet in anyway:
    <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
        //this.Document = 'string'; // Remove this line to get it to work again
        this.document = 'string';
        document = 'string';
        Document = 'string';
    </script>For some strange reason it only affects the Applet when 'this.Document' is used. Why would Java be affected in this way in the first instance? Even setting the 'scriptable' parameter to false doesn’t help:
    <param name="scriptable" value="false">Are there any other settings I am not aware of that could maybe prevent Java from loooking at the JavaScript?
    EJP wrote:
    Use another name.As I mentioned in my original post this is not easily done, I can edit the source code on my own site but the code still remains unchanged on the Mootools JavaScript Framework website.

  • Applet wont load to IE

    When I transfer my old applets to my new computer, the applets load and run successfully. However, if I recompile them, they wont run in the IE (SP2)browser. (the applet will run OK in the applet viewer, so no errors there.)
    If I copy the newly compiled class file to my old computer the applet will also fail to load. Any suggestions as to what is happening here?
    PS Its nothing to do with SP2 locking down the local machine. If allow the Active X blocked contents, it makes no difference.

    Thanks for responding. You pointed me in the right direction.
    By looking into the Java console, I discovered the JRE was pointing to an old jre1.4.2_03
    The problem has now been resolved by installing jre1.5.0_06
    Note: The original java source code nor html was not altered - it was only recompiled!

  • Applet won't load, packet missing data?

    I know this basic question gets asked a lot, but I have debug info!
    Here's the setup:
    - Simple HelloWorld applet on a Slax Linux system, Apache2 server
    - Clients are win 2000 and win 98 machines, IE and Firefox
    html code:
    <html>
    <body>
    <center>
    <h1> Applet Test 6 </h1>
    <applet code="helloapp" width="320" height="320" codebase="."></applet>
    </center>
    </body>
    </html>applet code:
    import javax.swing.JApplet;
    import java.awt.Graphics;
    public class helloapp extends JAppplet
       public void paint(Graphics g)
          g.drawRect(0,0,getSize().width-1,getSize().height-1);
          g.drawString("helllo",5,15);
    }What happens:
    - applet runs fine in appletviewer
    - type in <ipadr>/Hello.html on win PC
    - the html loads, waits for between a few seconds to tens of seconds
    - get applet notinited error
    - on the win 98 machine the Java applet loading logo shows up briefly
    - end up with the dreaded box with 'X'
    - I did get it to work the other day after adding 'classpath="."' to the <applet> code, but that doesn't seem to help now. class and html are in the same directory.
    - I have tried class="helloapp" and class="helloapp.class" in the <applet> code
    Debug info:
    - Java console says helloapp.class not found, and sometimes an EOF error
    - packet sniffer shows (leaving out, ACKs, SYNs) (pc -> linux) :
    -> request fro html
    <- html code delivered
    -> request for helloapp.class
    <- deliver helloapp.class (SEE NOTE BELOW)
    -> rerequest helloapp.class
    <- redeliver (SEE NOTE)
    -> finally sends RST flag

    Questions:
    - Am I right in not seeing data (the applet code) in the packet above - it should be there right?
    - Could something in the Apache configuration prevent it from sending the applet data? I did set the permissions in the configuration file.
    - Any other way to debug this?
    - The fact it worked the other day and not now is perplexing. The linux I am running is a live version, so I have to reconfigure each time I start it. I have to think the problem is there as that is the only thing that has changed since the other day....

    Here's a partial answer. I found that if the data load in the packet was over 256 bytes, it would fail. I a able to create an empty applet of 192 bytes that would load. I figured out the 256 byte number using wget and some text files. So I guess it's not an applet problem, but maybe an Apache problem.

  • Java applet won't load on browser

    God, I've never been this frustrated with Java before.
    Ok, I created an applet in my eclipse IDE and ran it. It works. I decided to create a HTML file so that the applet would display on my firefox browser (my browser has no problem displaying java applets. All settings are fine).
    This is my HTML code:
    <html>
    <title>Site Selector</title>
    <body>
       <applet code = "SiteTesting.class" width = "300" height = "75">
       </applet>
    </body>
    </html>Now, my eclipse IDE creates a "src" or source folder and a bin folder. The bin folder is where the class files are kept. The HTML file was in the src folder. When I ran it, I got this:

    I'm obviously doing something wrong. So, any help in fixing this will be most appreciated. Cheers

    Your java file starts with:
    package networking;Right?
    If so, the fully qualified name name of your class is networking.SiteTesting.
    Use this in the applet tag:
    <applet code = "networking.SiteTesting" width = "300" height = "75">Suppose you have your html file in the directory zzz.
    Put SiteTesting.class in zzz/networking/, like this:
    zzz/whatever.html
    zzz/networking/SiteTesting.class

  • Java Applets won't load in Netscape 4

    Hello,
    No java applets will load in Netscape 4. I checked to see if java plugins existed and they do I actually have about 4 different versions installed on my computer because I have been trying to resolve this issue. I looked in the browsers plugins directory it contains four java .dll files. Does anybody know whats going on? In internet explorer java applets load correctly.
    Thank You,
    Mark

    Perhaps it is due to your HTML code in the webpage? If you use the <APPLET> tag only, the applet may not run in all browser/platform. You can use HtmlConverter that comes with JDK/JRE 1.4 in order to generate HTML code which allows your applet to run in any browser/platform.
    Hope it helps,
    A.A.

  • Applet won't load in IE browser

    This may be a fairly obvious question but I am just starting out programming in Java and any help would be appreciated. I have created a source file, compiled it in Java 2 SDK to get a class file, and created a .html file. When I run this program in appletviewer it runs fine; however, when I move the .class and .html files to a floppy disk and try to open the html file in an IE web browser on another computer the screen says that it cannot load the applet. The files are all in the same directory and spelled correctly (I made no changes from when it ran correctly in appletviewer)yet it does not load. Is there something else that has to be in the directory to load the applet properly? I noticed that once I disabled the "use Java 2 v 1.40_01 for <applet> requires restart" option in the Internet Options drop down menu the program will not load on my personal IE browser (before it had). Again, any help on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

    If the other machine doesn't have a Java runtime (JRE) equivalent to Sun J2Re ver. 1.4.0_01 or later installed, that is probably the cause.
    If one is installed. chech the Java plugin and make sure it's enabled.

  • IE6 on WindowsXP  Applets won't load

    I am fairly new to Java and am going through the Java Applet Tutorial.
    I started on an old machine running IE6 on an Windows2K machine and now have upgraded to a new machine running Windows XP with IE6. On the old machine the applets in the tutorial worked fine but on the new machine they all fail. I've loaded the JRE 1.4(?) and set up IE to use the Sun plug-in.
    If I enable the Sun Java console the following appears when I load the page at http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/applet/overview/lifeCycle.html
    Any suggestions?
