AppleTV compatible with a 5Ghz network?

Up until a few days ago I had no problems with my Apple TV (2nd gen). Then I switched my network from 2.4 Ghz to 5 Ghz. Apple TV easily connects to the new network, showing signal strength as "strong".
Pushing content from my computer (iTunes) or from my iPhone to Apple TV works. But not the other way around: when I try to connect to my computer (iTunes) from AppleTV, it either gives me an error message that it can't find it or just simply jumps back to the home screen.
I've tried restarting AppleTV, the router and my computer. So far no luck. 5Ghz is supposed to be compatible with AppleTV I thought, and yet....? Any ideas please?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
5 GHz does work, but is often not what many users expect. There is less chance of interference issues but the distance over which it works is significantly less and is easily blocked. It may help in some circumstances but may work less well in others.

  • Is iphone compatible with europe gsm networks?  help me pls

my friend is gonna buy iphoe from us for me . if he buy that i phone can i use it in my country (i m from turkey) is it compatible with our gsm networks (turkcell vodafone or avea ) ???

    You are wasting your money.
The iPhone is sold in the U.S. as carrier locked with AT&T Wireless only. None of the iPhone functions will work until the phone is activated with AT&T Wireless. Inserting another SIM card in the iPhone will not work so to make a long story short, the answer is no. You will have a $600 paperweight only so save your money.

You would be better off to sell your current iPhone while still in Canada and
get a new one in France. Your current Canadian iPhone will not work on 4G/LTE
in France, and your warranty will be only valid in Canada.

  • Why is the Iphone not compatible with Verizons 4G network?

Will Apple be coming out with an iphone4S that is compatible with Verizons 4G network?

Why? Because it does not have an LTE radio in it.
As for will Apple come out with one that is, nothing has been announced, therefore no-one knows. It's highly doubtful that there will be a version of the 4S that is LTE capable.

  • AppleTV Compatible with XP SP3?

I'm paranoid so I usually need extra conformation whenever I buy anything. My MacBook recently died and I have no money to replace it. I have a PC running XP home(SP3) with no wireless network. I want to buy and AppleTV because I'm getting sick of having to unplug my computer and take it over to the TV if I want to watch my iTunes movie on full screen.
Before I spend so much money I need to know that it will all work. Will it be compatible with windows XP running SP3(The manual online says SP2)? And can I run AppleTV by only syncing movies from my i?Tunes without a wireless connection?
    Thanks.

There shouldn't be a problem with XP SP3, per se, but Windows users have reported a variety of problems with the Windows version of iTunes. You also don't need wi-fi, you can stream with it connected to your router by Ethernet cable. If you don't have a router, Windows can also do Internet sharing.

  • Controller DMRW1000 is not recognized with my 5GHz network

I have the following items: Director DMC250, DMP100 and Controller DMRW1000.
I decided to move all of them from the 2.4GHz to the 5GHz network, but the Controller is not recognized by LELA and when I try to set the network manually on the controller it does find the SSID but can not connect to it.
    Anybody with a similar problem?

    Hi,
A friend of mine had the same problem and here's what he did to resolve it.
Reset the controller by pressing and holding the reset hole/button for 20 seconds. Try then to manually connect the controller to the wireless network by using the LCD screen. Don't forget to check for any firmware updates for the controller afterwards.
    I hope this helps.

  • AppleTV compatible with Buffalo Linkstation Live?

If you look it up, The LinkStation Live supports SMB and has a built in iTunes7 server.
    http://www.buffalotech.com/products/network-storage/linkstation/linkstation-live /
Do you think I could plug this directly into the AppleTV via ethernet or would I have to use my existing router?
Would it show up in AppleTV sources, as a shared library, if the LinkStation was set up that way?

Then it's not a suitable location for the iPhoto Library.
One possible workaround: put the library on a Disk Image and store the Image on the NAS

  • How to make AppleTV compatible with ordinary TVs?

I was meaning to buy an AppleTV (although I'm aware that a newer version of it, perhaps one with DVD drive, is due to be released), but remembered that it requires a flat-screen TV. I can't afford both simultaneously nor around the same time. I've got an elgato TV tuner coming soon and would like to watch from my living room what's recorded in my MBP, which lives in another room.
    Any solution or alternative?
    Thanks.

On paper the tv only gives component output and not composite as required by SCART.
In fact it has now been shown that the circuitry to deliver composite signal is present in the tv but you just cant get at the interface to turn it on. That link tells you how to fool the tv set up into delivering a composite signal.
So you can do it almost for free instead using the hidden composite signal inside the tv. You need a HDMI-DVI-VGA converter combo to get the tv to deliver this signal and it costs maybe $20-30. Follow the links to Mauricio's video and instructions. He says you only need an HDMI-DVI but that didnt work for me.
Beware to ensure you get a VGA to DVI-I adaptor since the HDMI-DVI will probably be a DVI-D.
Worked first time and works fine. This way i'm using the tv signal directly

  • First Generation AppleTV Compatible with iTunes 11

Does anyone know if the first generation AppleTV will still work with iTunes 11?

I have slowly worked my way through all the functions of iTunes 11 and my three (still very reliable) 1.5TB ATV1's and am very pleased to say that, with one exception, they appear to play very nicely with each other. Unlike has been reported, I have had no problems with 720P vs 1080P movie selections and in all cases I have not had to reset the devices, they have simply continued working as they were.
The one exception is a very stange bug that is easily circumvented (I have now confirmed this on two different iTunes 11 Libraries). With the sidebar enabled, an ATV1 selected and TV Shows selected it initially appeared to be impossible to scroll the TV shows if the mouse cursor was over the TV Shows column on the left or the seasons column on the right. By accident I discovered that if I move the cursor to the left or right of these columns, then scrolling would continue as normal. If my description of the problem is hard to follow it's because its difficult to describe . I was going to write a bug report to Apple but my time is too precious to argue with those guys ever again.
All in all, I am really pleased that the good old ATV1's are still being looked after by the iTunes developers.

  • Connection Problem with a 5GHz Network - AVM 7390

I have the problem to connect a MB Air (mid 2011) to the 5 GHz network of an AVM Fritz 7390. Sometimes the request quits with a timeout sometimes the MB connects but I'm not able to reach a webpage or the front end of the router.
With the 2.4 GHz there is no problem. The connection with a Dell windows laptop is no connection problem.
Is this a known problem? Please help.
    Thanks a lot.

  • Speed on 2.4Ghz network drops after enabling 5Ghz network?

I've just noticed a weird issue with my dual-band AirPort Extreme router.
I have a 30Mbps internet connection at home. If I don't enable the '5 Ghz Network Name', all wireless systems can access the internet at full speed. Once I do enable it, the computer on the 5 Ghz network still has full speed, but the others only get ~10Mbps.
At first I thought this was a problem caused by extending my network with a Time Capsule, but I have since removed that from the chain.
    Any ideas what's going on?
    Message was edited by: goldenegg001

    UPDATE:
I just did a test and found that it has nothing to do with the 5Ghz Network Name. I disabled the 5Ghz Network Name and my Macbook Pro connected fine with N speed on the 5Ghz channel and had full 30Mbps internet access. My gf's computer, connecting at 2.4Ghz on G, still gets ~10Mbps.
It appears that performance of the 2.4Ghz network is slow on these new dual-band routers. My older, non dual-band, Time Capsule does not have any problem providing full 30Mbps access to all systems over the 2.4Ghz G network.
I can't possibly be the only person having this problem. Has any one else noticed slower performance from systems connecting to the 2.4Ghz band of the new dual-band AE?

  • L530 with Centrino 6205 - compatible with 5GHz 802.11n?

I have L530 with Centrino Advanced-N 6205 wireless built-in. The computer does not see any of the n networks I have setup (either 2.4GHz or 5GHz). When I get advanced properties on the centrino adapter, the "Wireless mode" shows only a/b/g options and not n.
Is the 6205 adapter compatible with 802.11n? If yes, how can I enable it? I have the latest drivers installed thru Lenovo Thinkvantage Tools app.
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    According to Intel, that's a dual-band "N" card.
See their recommendations on setup here:
    http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/sb/CS-030709.htm
    Two questions:
    a) What type of encryption do you have on the router?
    b) Are other devices able to connect with the router on the "N" networks?

  • Is an AirPort compatible with Chinese (central - not Hong Kong!) network?

Is an AirPort compatible with Chinese (central - not Hong Kong!) network?

It should work, but there is another user here suggesting they are getting high charges for usage with movie playback from a computer to AppleTV using the mifi as a local router - it might be sneakily routing devices to contact each other via the internet but i would hope not.

  • Problems wirelessly extending 5Ghz network with Time Capsule

    Summary:
My Time Capsule wirelessly extends a 5Ghz "n" network provided by my Airport Extreme, but the Time Capsule frequently fails and stops providing Internet access to connected computers. I'm not sure if the problem is with the Time Capsule or with the Airport Extreme it's connecting to.
    Setup:
Airport Extreme (dual band) connected to cable modem. It provides a 5Ghz "n" network and a 2.5Ghz "b-g-n" network. This is in the bedroom.
Time Capsule (non-dual band) joins the 5Ghz network and extends it. This is in the office, maybe 40 feet away, line-of-sight. There is a laser printer connected to the Time Capsule via ethernet.
My MacBook is set to join the 5 Ghz network, and since it's in the office, it ends up joining via the Time Capsule. This is the desired behavior, as connecting through the Time Capsule seems to result in the fastest possible backup speed.
There are no wireless devices, such as cordless phones, in the house. The microwave is NOT in use when the problems arise.
    *The Problem:*
Frequently, the MacBook loses its Internet connection, though it is still connected to the 5Ghz network through the Time Capsule. When this happens, it can only see the Time Capsule it's connected through (and other devices that are connected to it) but no other devices on the network.
When this happens, other devices that are connecting to the 5Ghz network through the Airport Extreme can no longer see the Time Capsule or any devices connected to it, such as the laser printer or my MacBook. This includes the living room computer, which has never been able to complete a backup due to this problem.
The Time Capsule's and the Airport Extreme's indicator lights both stay green.
If I change the Macbook's connection to the 2.5Ghz network, it can see the devices connected to the Airport Extreme, but can no longer reach the Time Capsule.
    *Unsuccessful Solutions:*
This was happening in a previous incarnation of the network, when I had a non-dual band Airport Extreme providing the main network, the Time Capsule connected via 5Ghz, and an Airport Express connected via ethernet to the Time Capsule to provide a b-g network.
I replaced the Airport Extreme with a new dual-band unit to simplify the setup, but it did not solve the problem.
Since the Time Capsule seemed to be the weak link in the network, I reported the problem and got the unit replaced, but the problem still persists.
I've reset both the Airport Extreme and the Time Capsule to their factory settings numerous times, and set them up again from scratch (no imported settings). I've gone in and made sure that there were no WDS settings leftover from the earlier configuration, as the 5Ghz network does not need it to extend itself.
    *Plea for help:*
Is anyone else experiencing a similar problem?

    Update
The other day, I modified the setup so that the Time Capsule doesn't extend the wireless network wirelessly, only through Ethernet (so the attached printer will work, but the computers will connect directly to the AEBS. The Time Capsule stayed connected long enough for me to do a full backup (125GB) from the downstairs computer.
I thought I had it "solved" (though extending the 5Ghz network would be preferable so the office computers can have faster backup speeds.)
But yesterday, I went to print to the Ethernet-attached printer, and it got only one page out before it disappeared off the network again, and the print job failed. I noticed it did it again, today.
So the problem is not tied to wirelessly extending the network.

  • Is a Samsung TX-P2734 TV compatible with AppleTV?

Is the Samsung TV model # TX-P2734 compatible with appleTV system? The online appleTV manual lists the TV picture quality (Enhanced definition or Hi-Def) and the resolution qualities that it is compatible with, but the Samsung TV manual I have does not list the TV's resolution or picture quality.

Thank you to AC for finding the correct TV on Line. And Thank you Jules for your reply. I went and bought the appleTV - the black one - anyway (figuring I'll work it out somehow. Even if I have to buy a new TV. This about doing apple FaceTime with my granddaughter.) and am now trying to route it through my Sony "Digital Audio/Video Control Center" multi-channel AV receiver model #STR-K900. The AppleTV transmitter has an HDMI port and an Optical Audio port. The Sony AV receiver has 2 HDMI input ports. I have tried the appleTv HDMI in both AV ports but am just getting a blue screen on my TV (telling me there is no input signal). Does the appleTv have to be connected directly into a TV rather than be routed through the AV receiver?
