Appleworks crashes when "recent items" is selected

After upgrading to 10.5 recently, Appleworks (v. 6.2.9--yeah, upgrade it) when I select the "recent items" tab, I will hear the drive accessing for 13 seconds then the app disappears. After another 12 seconds I get the "quit unexpectedly" alert box.
Files will open if clicked on. Appleworks that is on a 10.4.11 partition still works as expected.
PROBLEM RESOLVED
While checking on behavior for details while making this post, I found the cause of the problem. When I added an external drive and moved most of my data files to a new location, none of the aliases of "recent items" could link to the new location. When I deleted all of the recent aliases in the AppleWorks folder there is no longer a crash. Previously, when a link couldn't be found, it was greyed out. Guess when none of the links worked, Works had a nervous breakdown.

This is a very old bug described for years.
It strikes also when "Recent items" is not selected!

Hi Vikas,
The reason behind the error message requires the knowledge on what happens at the backend. When you perform a drill-through action, a query is sent to Analysis Services. This query is expressed in a query language called Multi-Dimensional Expression (MDX).
Since the MDX language doesnot support drill-through command against a set (collection of tuples) an error is persisted.
For now, there is no workaround as it is a limitation of the underlying language that is generating the query.
When multiple items are selected you lose the ability to drill-down on individual metrics. To resolve you must either:
1. Select a single Item.
2. Select all items.

unfortunately there is no validation / alerting for select menus in webelements.
however...if you're feeling ambitious and or this is a definite requirement for your project...custom functions are open source so you could write an on change javascript function within the WESelect custom function that will find the new value and compare it against your certain items array of values.
out of curiosity, what is your project's particular need to have an alert for a select menu based on what the end user selects? if this comes up more often or there's a good use case perhaps this could be built into a future version.

Update JTable when an item is selected in a JComboBox inside the same JTabl

I created a JTable with a lookup JComboBox. I want to update values from the table when an item is selected in the ComboBox.
I tried all the events posible in JComboBox, but I can not fire to update the JTable.
Please if you have a how-to, (source) will help. Thanks.

I tried that. But it only fires when the JComboxBox, lost the focus. And not in the "itemChange" event. How to do it width that event?

System preferences crashes when mouse icon is selected. All other icons seem to function.Software is OSX 10.7.5. Update shows software is updated. I tried to reset the PRAM, but it did not help. When resetting PRAM, I did not get a 2nd klaxon on startup.

That implies that the underlying OS is corrupted. Best thing to do is boot into recovery mode and reinstall the OS, unless you have an installer copy. If so, use Pacifist to reinstall the SystemPreferences app.

Appleworks crashes when using "Font Menu in Actual Fonts" feature

In the past I was able to use the pull-down menu for "Font Menu in Actual Fonts" feature. Recently I found that this no longer was working, as I had trashed the preferences folder and the plist preference file for Appleworks. When I reselected the "Font Menu in Actual Fonts" item in the General preferences and selected OK, the program unexpectedly quit. This happened repeatedly, even after repairing permissions and pre-bindings, trashing the current preferences for appleworks, validating the fonts in the Font Book program, trashing other preferences, etc. It turns out that sometimes I get past the saving step for the preferences in Appleworks, but when I go to the pull-down menu for "Fonts", on the first try, I get a viewing of the fonts in their actual format, which crashes then if I am scrolling down through the fonts list. On the next try, I crash immediately when I highlight the fonts pull down menu. These symptoms are repeatable. Is it that I have too many fonts in my Font Book list? I have 148 listed fonts for my user account in Font Book. Also the font for Equation Editor named "MT Extra Plain:001.001" that I believe is associated with Appleworks is listed as having minor problems by Font Book in the name usability table and in the name table structure. If I delete the equation editor fonts this does not solve the problem. Similarly, If I de-install Appleworks, including preferences, and reinstall it, this also does not solve the problem. Are you able to help me stabilize Appleworks so I can use the "Font Menu in Actual Fonts" feature again? Thank you.

I looked for this font, yet it is not in any of the Fonts folders, either in the Macintosh HD/Library/Fonts location or in the user account/Library/Fonts folder which I accessed as you indicated via the "Go to Folder" menu). I do find however using EasyFind a file named Bauhaus 93.0_B8B8.ATSD in the following location: /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/ ATS.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Fontinfo/. Information on this file indicates that Bauhaus 93.0_B8B8.ATSD is a Unix Executable File. Is this a needed part of the system, and should I delete this?
For your further information, my version of Appleworks is 6.2.9, and per another posting by ptr66 Nov 3, 2008 (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8397234#8397234), not related directly to this posting, I also have disabled the Autosave and Recent items functions in the General preferences of Appleworks, which that posting indicated stabilize the program. These had no effect. Thank you for your input.

AppleWorks crashing when reopening Presentation

Working on 20 iMacs running 10.2.8 in a computer lab. Suddenly a high percentage of the Presentation projects are crashing on many machines. Had this problem a year or more ago, but upgrade to Appleworks 6.2.9. Now suddenly a problem. Have tried clearing "recent items", trashing preferences, clearing cache.
Any help?

When you deleted the AppleWorks preferences did you delete all of the preferences as I describe in my user tip, AppleWorks has stopped working correctly? Also, using Disk Utility to repair permissions can fix some odd AppleWorks problems, especially if any updates to OS X or other programs have been done.
Another thought is a corrupt font.

AppleWorks crashes when started in 10.5.4

Hi,
I have been using my eMac for a few years, running 10.2.8. I have many files that I created with AppleWorks, and recently upgraded to the latest: AppleWorks 6.2.9. I had no problems using AppleWorks in 10.2.8.
This week, I installed OS 10.5, and downloaded the update to 10.5.4. So far, the programs I use the most: Mail, Safari, Firefox, have been working fine.
However, AppleWorks would crash when I started it from the dock. It would open a window titled "Starting Points", but never enter any icons into the window, wait a bit, and crash.
My workaround has been to get into AppleWorks Preferences, and set it to not "Show Starting Points" when it starts. Now, I can open individual files, and get things done. Still, if I later select "Show Starting Points from the AppleWorks>File menu, the program crashes.
This happens both in my account, and in the "admin" account.
Any ideas? I'd like to have the program working fully.

I find that AW runs perfectly in Leopard as long as you periodically clean out those things mentioned in some of the other posts.
It isn't surprising that an "old" application works so steadily and reliably and doesn't lack the essential tools the user needs. "Mature" would be a better word: an application that has, so to speak, been around the block many times and upgraded over several years. Maybe iWork will get there in the end but so far, there are many little things about it that make it impossible to use for serious professional purposes - such as having to make constant trips with the mouse instead of doing everything with keyboard shortcuts, etc.
AppleWorks is going to continue to be the application that cuts the mustard, for quite a while yet!

Mail.app crashes when certain messages are selected

I recently migrated a user from OS X 10.4 to 10.5. When we run Mail.app, it will crash when certain messages are clicked.
I've tried everything I could to get the mail in in a different way -- importing it in different ways, deleting ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist, and re-importing, etc.
It certainly seems that the problem is tied to the individual message, as clicking on a certain message, even if it is in different folders (because of the way it was imported) causes the crash.

My guess, the email(s) are from windos users?
I had this problem, until I switched to thunderbird. A few people, using a version (don't remember the version number) of outlook/outlook express, would send multimedia attachments.
As soon as I would select the email, Mail would crash.
I would copy the offending email to a folder with no other contents, and then open it up with TextEdit, to view the non-attachment portion.

Appleworks Crashes When I Try To Save Document

My Appleworks crashes immediately after I click "Save" or "Save As", losing the document. I tried deleting all the Applework preferences which did not work. I also tried running the Disk Utility on my entire Hard Drive which did not do anything either.
I was going to install the program again but I am unsure how to go about this as Appleworks was installed on the computer when I bought it. Also, I am wondering whether my files will be saved.
Any help would be much appreciated, my apologies if this topic was previously brought up in a post and I missed it - I did try searching for it and did not find anything. Thanks!

I doubt that reinstalling AppleWorks would be the fix for this problem. But, should you ever need to reinstall AppleWorks from the disks that came with your eMac, take a look at these two articles Apple has written: Knowledge Base article 300316 on installing AppleWorks 6 & Knowledge Base article 61802 on restoring the software than came with your Mac.
I think there could be several unrelated causes for AppleWorks crashing. Since it happens with both Save & Save As... it could be more of an OS X problem. So, the first thing I suggest is repairing permissions using Disk Utility. Then, unless you leave your Mac on 24/7 & not asleep, run a utility to run the UNIX cron routines & clean caches. Two free ones are YASU & OnyX.
Also, make sure your hard drive isn't too full. It depends on how you use your computer, but for most normal users a minimum of 5 gigs free space at all times after installation is recommended. If this still doesn't work, repairing your hard drive with Disk Utility may help. Start up your Mac from the first Panther instal disk. Then, instead of running the installer, go to the Installer menu & choose Disk Utility. Select your hard drive in the left-hand panel & click Repair Disk. When it is done, quit Disk Utility then quit Installer & restart your Mac.
Semi-AppleWorks-related problems could be a corrupt font, but this is more likely to cause crashing when launching AppleWorks rather than with saving.
You deleted AppleWorks preferences, but did you delete all of the preferences as detailed in my user tip, AppleWorks has stopped working correctly? There are four different files that must be deleted at the same time. Also, this must be done after every crash.
Last, make sure all of the "parts" of AppleWorks are in the AppleWorks 6 folder. The second part of my same tip explains more about this.

What does Calendar crash when I try to select March 2013 in 'month' view?

When I tried to select March 2013 in month view of Calendar, it crashes. If I select a date in March 2013 by some other means, I can add an appointment during that month, but every time I return to the Month view, the application crashes (closes).

Why does Flash CS5 crash when I try to select a tool?

I am using Flash CS5 on Mac OSX (version 10.6.8). It's the first time I've used Flash but am following a basic tutorial to create a christmas card with a falling snow effect. I've managed to import a picture as a background and add a layer on top which I planned to add the snow onto.
When I try to select any tool from the toolbar, Flash crashes with no explanation. Has anyone else had the same problem? Any ideas how to fix?

Is the product up to date (Help->Update)? If so, is reinstalling a possibility?
It doesn't appear to be a new issue but in that post the user suggested creating a new user (to clear system prefs). Can you try that?

Then the issue might be caused by more than one IIS Site Binding in single web application.
Please firstly remove AAM settings following the steps below:
In IIS manager, remove the added url binding from IIS site for SharePoint web application.
In CA, remove url under AAM settings and execute IISReset. Now you can check if the issue is resolved.
If you need to configure AAM for your web application, please extend web application and set AAM on the extended web application.

IBooks crashes when TOC items tapped

I have created several iBooks in iBooks Author and never had an issue with a TOC. The current title that I am working on works fine in iBooks for the Mac, but it crashes when some TOC items are tapped on the iPad. iBooks author, iBooks Mac, and iBooks for the iPad are all running at their current versions as well as the device operating systems. The TOC issues aren't predictable either . . . a TOC items may work at one point and crash at another point. Grrr.
Any suggestions?

The issue appears to be an iBooks iPad issue (portrait view). I noticed that iBooks crashes when I tap on any TOC item that is listed 12 or more deep in a TOC subcategory. I completely stripped the document to just one chapter, used Lorem Ipsum dummy text, and removed all widgets and any hyperlinks and the issue remains. It has to be a bug in iBooks.
For this particular book I need a detailed TOC so this is a major issue. Very frustrating!

i am developing an app for windows phone and using listview to list items. i am using custom template for the listview item. this custom template contains labels, image and button.
i trying to update the other listview items while one item is selected or multiple item selected. to change listview item i am iterating over the listview and try to get custom template using visual tree helper class. using helper class i am able to retrieve
control from custom template. once i changing the image in listview if i scroll the listview vertically image changed to its default state.
is it possible to change the custom template values using visual tree helper class or do i need to do some other changes in my code.

You already have implemented binding in your code, just like you have bindings for TextBlock's 'Text' property, likewise you can defined a property for the 'Visibility' of image in the code behind
e.g.
