Application Deployment  for  JSPs

Hi
I have a web application using only JSP's
The organization of the application is :
MyApp
|____ contains all JSP's and HTML
|_WEB_INF
| |______ Classes
| | |__________ MyBeans - contains all classes and code.
| |______Lib --- contains the jar files..
|___images --- contains all the image files.
There are no servlets in my application.
My questions are
1) Is this a good directory structure for an application containing JSP's
2) Do I need a WEB.XML file for this application to deploy it ?
3) What should be in the web.xml file.
thanx
deepak

Thanx for the reply
I have a couple of more questions.
When I setup tomcat on my local computer,
I removed the default context.....
<Context path="" docBase="ROOT" debug="0"/>
and created a context for my application .......
<Context path="" docBase="myApp" debug="0" reloadable="true" />
and I also changed the DocumentROOT of Apache server to point to MyApp Directory.
This works well for my application on my local machine.
The company I am trying to host my applicationwith , has provided my with my own tomcat instance and created a directory structure
HTML
|_____WEB_INF
the problem is that if i use MyApp.war to deploy the app. IT creates
HTML
|____ MYAPP
|_____WEB-INF
|___Classes....
and then it does not work if i do
www.myapp.com/index.jsp coz index.jsp is now in MYApp folder.
How can i solve this problem.
my initial thought was to create a war file such that it does not create a directory myApp...... but i dunno if that is possible /
any thoughts on this ?
thanx a lot

  • Deployment for JSP Application on OAS 4.0.8.2

    Hi,
I would appreciate, if someone could share its experience of deploying the JSP application which utilizes certain JavaClasses for database access and businesslogic.
My question is that do we need to add JSP files or .java files created under the myprojects directory. Also where do we place the java classes.
Also, do I need to get my classpath settings in the environment variables for JSP's to run. Because my WinNT crashed twice on changing the env settings.
    Any help shall be appreciated
    Thanks

    Hi ,
As u had said in the previous mail... I also have lot of basic doubts. Let us share them..
What do u mean by a JSP cartridge... Should i download it or something...

  • Please help me about jdeveloper application deployment for weblogic

At the beginning I just thought after developing an adf application then just deploy it as a .ear file and deploy it in the weblogic console and everything will be ok.But in fact I got a lot of problems. Then I got a tutorial for that and I do what it said step by step but some new problems occured. This is the tutorial I mentioned: [How-To: ADF Deployment Guide|http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/jdeveloper/howto/11114/managedserver/wlsadfms.htm]
Now could somebody tell how did you deploy your adf application?
Here is the errors I got.
This is the install packege and the OS I use:
    1. CentOS 6.3_x64 + jdeveloper11123.jar(include wls10.3.5) + adr(package name is ofm_appdev_generic_11.1.1.6.0_disk1_1of1.zip)[and just now I used a solaris11 vm from oracle and install jdeveloper11.1.2.3, the same probem occured as in CentOS.]
    2. Win7_x64 + jdeveoper11123.exe(include wls10.3.5) + adr mentioned above
Here is the problems I get:
in the case 1,after I install the jdeveloper(using sun jdk 1.7), the weblogic seems to be well though I didn't configure a domain. But after I open an
application(which I get from the oracle jdeveloper tutorial demo, which works well in my Win7 env) and I run it, the integrated weblogic can't get
started. Firstly in the console it said the -jrocket identifier is not recognized, then I modify the setDomainEnv.sh and the startWebLogic.sh file in the
integrated wls domain (the one in the .jdeveloper directer) to set the JAVA_VM variable to -server.After that another problem came out: when the
wls goes to status "starting",it is blocked and I turn to the system monitor it shows that a java thread using more than 1GB of memory of my system
and occupy 150% of my cpu(it's a double-core computer). I wait for about 5 minutes when a error came said "PermSize is too small".then I modify the
setDomainEnv.sh file again to set the PermSize to be 1024m and MaxPermSize to be 2048.(the variable name is something like that, maybe not the
exactly right. I think you can understand which one it is.) But the problem is still there.
then in the case 2.Firstly the jdev and the integrated wls works well, but when i deploy an application which works well to a ear file and deploy it to a
standalone wls(10.3.5) it never works.the error is something referrence/dependences libraries is not found. Then I tried to new a server connection to
the standalone wls and I got the tutorial [how_to_deploy_adf|http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/jdeveloper/howto/11114/managedserver/wlsadfms.html] , as the tutorial said I patch my standalone
wls with the adr and everything goes ok, no error reported. Then I tried the new server in the new machine under the manage of the adminserver and apply the
adf template in the localhost:port/em console. But after I restart the new server(by the console and then by the stop+startweblogic.bat file) the server is running
while the application in the new server is just "Unavailable". I tried this for three times in three computer, two of them are running win7,the other one is running winxp.
I don't know what is wrong and I am totally a newbie about this. Somebody please help me.Thanks a lot!
    regard,Neo.

    Neo,
there are a couple of problems. First of all, jdev comes with it'S own jdk bundled in the product (jdk 1.6_x). Next thing is if you use JDev 11.1.2.3.0 to build an application you must use a wls 10.3.5 or 10.3.6 where you need to install the correct runtime onto. In your case you first install adf runtime 11.1.1.6.0 and then you need to install two patches which update the adf runtime to 11.1.2.3.0. These spathes are only available via support.oracle.com, meaning you need asupport contract to get them.
More information you can find in my blog http://tompeez.wordpress.com/2011/09/14/jdeveloper-versions-vs-weblogic-server-versions/
The rest of your problems go away once you have installed the right adf runtime on your server.

  • New SCCM deployment for 10,000 users, single domain across 2 sites connected with a fast WAN link

    Hi,
I'm looking at rolling out an SCCM 2012 deployment in my environment. We have 10,000 users, a single AD domain, several thousand Windows 7 laptops and desktops, as well as few hundred MAC OS 10.6 devices and we currently use WSUS for updates. We have
2 main sites with the users equally split across the sites and we have an internal PKI.
I'm looking at doing the following:
     - deploying a single primary SCCM 2012 site server (site A)
     - 1 or 2 distribution points in site B
The main things I'm after are:
     - Computer inventory (MAC + Windows)
     - Application deployment (MAC + Windows)
     - Hardware inventory (MAC + windows)
     - Deploy updates (MAC + windows)
     - Remotely power on devices and patch overnight
I'm aiming to setup an SCCM infrastructure and aim to achieve the above in a month.
What I'm not sure about is:
    - if I need a secondary site server?
    - How I should handle WSUS updates ? I don't know if SCCM can leverage the current WSUS infrastructure or whether it's better just to get rid of it and install the WSUS role as part of SCCM?
    - I believe that to enable application deployment for MACs I need to install a PKI certificate on my distribution points. If do I this, presumably all my Windows clients will also connect via HTTPs. Are there any downsides to doing this?
If anyone has deployed a similar setup I'd be keen to hear from them.
    Thanks in advance

    1. WSUS: Be careful here. If you just remove the WSUS policy computers can just revert back to their default setting which would be to connect to the Internet at 3am and automatically install the updates. I've seen this happen on a large site and it is not
pretty. It's better practice to leave the policy in place but to disable automatic updates (or you could change the WSUS server to be your new ConfigMgr WSUS instance - this would have the same effect).
    2. Secondary Sites: It's not uncommon for customers to start without the secondary site and monitor the WAN link for excessive traffic. The secondary site can be introduced afterwards if it is deemed neccessary.

  • Apache for HTML and Tomacat for JSP

I have a linux system. I would want to use Apache as web server ( for HTML file ) and Tomcat as application server ( for JSP file ). I have my sites in dir /var/www/... and I have configurated Apache to "read" these sites... but when I insert a JSP file in these directories Tomcat doesn't work that file.
How I have to do that??

There is a file in $TOMCAT_HOME/conf directory named "server.xml". In this file you should put the following line codes:
    <Context path="$APPLICATION_DIRECTORY"
    docBase="webapps/$APPLICATION_DIRECTORY"
    crossContext="false"
    debug="0"
    reloadable="true" >
    </Context>
The APPLICATION_DIRECTORY is the same that you using in apache config file "httpd.conf".

  • How to create different log files for each of web applications deployed in OC4J

    Hi All,
I am using OC4J(from Oracle) v1.0.2.2 and Windows2000. Now I want to know
    1. how to create different log files for each of my deployed web applications ?
    2. what are the advantages in running multiple instances of oc4j and in what case we should run
    multiple instances of OC4J ?
    3. how to run OC4J as Windows2000 Service rather than Windows2000 Application ?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Kumar.

    Hi Avi,
First of all I have given a first reading to log4j and I think there will some more easy way of logging debugging messages than log4j (If you could provide me a detailed explanation of a servlet, jsp, java bean that uses log4j and how to use log4j then it will be very helpful for me). The other easy ways (if I am not using log4j) to my problem i.e creating different log files for each of web applications deployed in oc4j are
I have created multiple instances of OC4J that are configured to run on different ports and so on each instance I have deployed a single web application . And I started the 2 oc4j instances by transferring thier error/log messages to a file. And the other way is ..
I have download from jakarta site a package called servhelper . This servhelper is a thread that is started in a startup servlet and stopped in the destroy method of that startup servlet. So this thread will automatically capture all the system.out.println's and will print those to a file. I believe that this thread program is synchronized. So in this method I need not run multiple instances of OC4J instead each deployed web application on single instance of oc4j uses the same thread program (ofcourse a copy of thread program is put in each of the deployed web applications directories) to log messages on to different log files.
Can you comment on my above 2 approached to logging debugging messages and a compartive explanation to LOG4J and how to use LOG4J using a simple servlet, simple jsp is appreciated ...
    Thanks and Regards,
    Ravi.

  • Deploying a JSP BC4J Application

    Hi,
I created 2 projects in Jdeveloper 902. One containing BC4J components (BC4J.jpr), the
other containing BC4J JSP pages (JSP.jpr) that use an Application Module in the BC4J.jpr
    project.
I compile and deploy JSP.jpr to a standalone OC4J container.
When I access the JSP I get the following error :
msg=JBO-33001: Cannot find the configuration file Proj_dflt_pkg\common\bc4j.xcfg in the classpath
    Appreciate any help on this.

bc4j.xcfg file is part of the middle tier project(BC4J.jpr) and should be packaged in the .war file.
In 9.0.2 creating a bc4j jsp project creates a web application deployment profile and a library that points to the classes of the middle tier poject. The generated profile includes this library so that the resulting .war file has all the required files from the middle tier project. However if you created the deployment profile manually then you must perform this step yourself.
You can verify this by launching the deployment profile Settings dialog and selecting the WEB-INF/lib node. The right panel lists the libraries that are selected for inclusion in resulting .war.
    Hope this helps.

That's true. Several customers have asked to keep the deployment in it's original form instead of compressing
it in .war file. Currently there's a known issue with engg.

I followed the sequence you described and tried to deploy the webapp on managed servers. I do not get the errors
that you are seeing below. Could you tell us how are you deploying the webapp on managed server?
Also would you mind sending your webapp? i will see if i can deploy your webapp in my environment..
BTW, is this with SP1 or without SP1?

  • Deploying a jsp application in OC4J

    Hi All,
In 9iAS Release 2, can i run a jsp without deploying it on OC4J(i.e, without creating a war file, web.xml and deploying it using the Enterprise Manager deployment wizard). I need to know if there is any other way i can run a jsp. I assume that i dont need to "deploy" a JSP if i use jserv but i would want to stick onto OC4J.
    Regards,
    Sreedhar

In R2, this is simple if your application contains plain JSPs http://<server>:7777/j2ee/simple.jsp will run each JSP and they can be called from each other by filename. If you are deploying an app with a Java archive, you may need to follow specific deployment instructions for the archive type.
Note: If your configuration is different, replace '7777' with whatever port Apache is at.

  • Where does my application resides for deployment?

    1) I have stepped thru deploying the HelloWorld and Fortune sample applications .. and they worked fine.
What I don't understand is how to deploy my JSP/JDBC application. Where do I put my application? The ias-samples put the samples in ..\ias-samples\fortune\assemble\fortune.war (and .ear file here too) and then on the browser the link is http://127.0.0.1/NASAppl/fortune/fortune.
(In Apache-Tomcat, my application would go to the \WebApps folder under Tomcat).. where would I put in
iPlanet and it would recognize it with http://127.0.0.1/NASAppl/myAppl ?
    2) does the folders under 'myAppl' need to be in a certain structure, ie: the classes go to a a folder named 'classes' and JSP go to ? and any other types where?
    3) deployment must have an .ear file ? so after I create .war with my class/jsp files, i have to create .ear (I have not tried with myAppl yet).
    4) I believe I have to re-start iAS after I deploy myAppl ?
(I am running iAS test drive version win NT)
your reply asap appreciated.. thanks ...

You need to first create a .war or .ear file. Then you need to deploy this .ear file either using the iPlanet Deploy Tool or from the command line (for ex. iasdeploy deployapp fortune.ear)
All the classes and files related to the application will be under APPS directory.
I advise you to first read the Developer's guide and Admin guide. All your questions will be answered.

  • Issues with deploying BC4J/JSP applications on OC4J

To everyone who's been having problems deploying BC4J/JSP applications to OC4J.
We are aware that you're having problems deploying to OC4J, and we're working on them. OC4J was not available in time for us to add support for OC4J deployment to the JDeveloper 3.2.3 release. In addition there are some bugs in the first release of OC4J that have an impact on BC4J applications. This note describes the issues, and how we plan to address them.
    Issue 1: Classpath problems
People have been getting "class not found" or "properties file not found" errors when they try to run their JSP. The answer is to make sure that all relevant archives and your JSP's .properties file are in the OC4J classpath - there's a note addressing the .properties file problem at http://technet.oracle.com:89/ubb/Forum99/HTML/000028.html. In general though, setting up the classpath can be tricky.
Issue 2: JSP TAG NOT RELEASED ON END TAG. SAME TAG IS REUSED.
This issue affects JSP pages whose behaviour relies on a tag instance being cleaned up as a result of release() being called.
Your tag will not be released, and subsequent instances of the tag will reuse the first instance, rather than instantiating a new
    one.
    Issue 3:JSP SCRIPTABLE VARIABLE NULL
A scriptable variable set in a tag cannot be accessed by a scriptlet. For example, this JSP code will throw a
NullPointerException, because the scriptlet cannot access the value of resultRow:
    <jbo:Row id="resultRow" action="CURRENT" datasource="customer_vo1" />
    <%
    session.putValue("FIRSTNAME", resultRow.getAttribute("Firstname").toString());
%>Workaround: Add a line of code at the beginning of the scriptlet to explicitly get the variable's value from the page context, for
    example:
    <jbo:Row id="resultRow" action="CURRENT" datasource="customer_vo1" />
    <%
    resultRow = (oracle.jbo.Row)pageContext.findAttribute("resultRow");
    session.putValue("FIRSTNAME", resultRow.getAttribute("Firstname").toString());
    %>
    What we plan to do
To address issue 1, we're currently testing a utility that installs the BC4J runtime libraries to OC4J, and provides a script to start OC4J with the correct classpath. We plan to post this by the end of this week, along with instructions for deploying a BC4J application to OC4J; deployment will be a lot simpler after running the utility.
To address issues 2 and 3, we're working on a second utility that installs BC4J runtime and provides a fix to the JSP compiler. We plan to post this second utility by the end of next week.
We do apologise for the problems you're having; please bear with us as we work on making it easier for you to deploy BC4J applications to OC4J.
    Thanks
    Blaise

Hi, I have been trying desparately to deploy
a simple example JDeveloper application for months and months.
I HAVE NEVER BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN DEPLOYING ANYTHING.
I don't know much about webservers and I am relying
on the instructions from JDeveloper help and this website.
I have already tried Apache, and WebLogic
because there are instructions in the JDev help.
    No luck.
Now I am trying to use OC4J on 9ias because there are instructions.
I have read the instructions about how to install a BC4J
app on OC4J about 25 times, but I can't get this thing to work.
It works fine inside of JDeveloper.
I create a BC4J project using the scott
schema (just the dept and emp tables).
Then I create an empty project for my JSP client.
I choose JSP Application from the web
objects and it connects to my BC4J project.
As I say, when I run it in JDeveloper, there is no problem.
In the instructions for installing BC4J
in OC4J, it first says install JDev 3.2.3 and OC4J.
This is done, and it tested fine.
Then it says to install the deployment software.
    No problem.
But when I deploy the app according to the instructions,
it just hangs (like Rick Wang's program did).
The main.jsp page loads and displays correctly,
but when I click on the links to the DeptView.jsp
    or EmpView.jsp it just hangs.
Here is the entire batch file I'm using
    to start OC4J: cd c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home\lib
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home\default-web-app\lib
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home\classes

    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home\lib\jdev-rt.zip
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home\lib\jbojdbcpatch.zip
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home\lib\connectionmanager.zip
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home\lib\jbohtml.zip
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home\lib\jboimdomains.zip
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home\lib\ordim817.zip
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home\lib\ordvir817.zip
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home\lib\ordhttp.zip
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home\lib\jbomt.zip
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home\lib\jbodomorcl.zip
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home\lib\jboremote.zip
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home\lib\jndi.jar
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home\lib\jbodatum12.zip
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home\lib\al_BC4J.jar
    java -cp C:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home\orion.jar;%CLASSPATH%
    com.evermind.server.ApplicationServer
    pause
The file al_BC4J.jar contains my application.properties file
and my connections.properties file, as well as my business components.
All of the files referenced in my classpath are
    present in my c:\oracle_9ias\j2ee\home\lib directory.
I noticed that Raghu's classpath contains a file called jdev.jar
So does the classpath of another fellow who says
he was successful in deployment (his name is Jeffrey Jackson).
I searched my JDev_3.2.3 for this file and found it nowhere.
I also searched my OC4J home and my 9iAS for this file and
    found it nowhere.
It is nowhere on my C:\.
    Is this file necessary?
I will also try removing my application.properties file
and my connections.properties file from my BC4J .jar file
and put them in a separate .jar file at the root level (as Raghu did).
However, Jeffery Jackson did not do this and says he was
    successfull in deployment.
***DO I NEED TO JAR UP ANY OF MY THE FILES FROM the JSP
    FOLDER IN JDevHome\myhtml???***
***or place them in the classpath?***
I have read over all of the discussions at: http://technet.oracle.com:89/ubb/Forum2/HTML/008232.html
    and http://technet.oracle.com:89/ubb/Forum99/HTML/000028.html
    many, many times.
    Can anyone help me?

what is the plugin used for jsp/servlet development , deployment in eclipse?
can some body tell me what are the other plugins to be used in enterprise java developement
is eclipse would be a best choice j2ee application development?
    thanks

what is the plugin used for jsp/servlet development ,
deployment in eclipse? There are several J2EE plugins I think. One is Lomboz.
can some body tell me what are the other plugins to
be used in enterprise java developementPfft...
    1) Might depend on what you're doing. J2EE is not just JSP, you know?
    2) Why do you ask about Eclipse IDE at Sun's Java Programming forum?
    3) Do you really want me to list the 5000 plug-ins someone might use for J2EE-related development?
    4) Open fucking Google and search yourself
is eclipse would be a best choice j2ee application
development?IMO: no. Simply because you have to look for J2EE plugins. I'm too lazy for that. Though it has other benefits that might outweigh the plug-in-searching issue.

  • JSP application developed for PC does not work on IPAQ

    Hi all,
I have developed a database/web application using JSP, Apache Tomcat, MS Access. It works great on Windows PC. Now I want to make sure that it works on PDAs also.
I tried using an IPAQ which runs Win CE 3.0 but I get some errors while interacting with the database.
One of the webpages in the application has a form through which the user can submit a text message and upload a file. Following are the problems that I am facing:
    1. The 'UPLOAD' button through which the user can browse his local hard drive and select a file is invisible if I am browsing with an IPAQ. I am using multipart formdata (MultipartRequest.java provided by Oreilly) for submitting a message and uploading the file. What could be the problem?
    2. If I forget about the attachment file and just try to submit a text message (which works on PCs) , I get the error message: "IOEXception: submitted data is not multipart formdata".
I am very new to PDA application development, and any inputs will be very valuable.
    Thanks in advance.
    m_asu.

I was wondering if anybody can give me some pointers as to how can I make an application developed for PCs work on IPaqs.
    Thanks

  • Understanding low compliance numbers for an application deployment

We created a deployment of a driver package to a group of known machines that need the update. After 3 weeks, the required deployment is sitting at only 40.7% compliance. Many of the machines may be on intermittently, so we are not surprised the number is
not 100%, but it does seem rather low. However, the real issue is the summarization of the deployment.
The deployment information in the Monitoring workspace seems to be incomplete. The pie chart shows a big red swatch of over 50% in error, but when looking at the error tab, only 9 machines have information. As a matter of fact, in the breakdown only 131
of the 275 machines in the collection are accounted for. When looking at the collection, 14 machines show as inactive, so that does not account for the large gap.
EDIT: I ran the report Application deployment type compliance, and it says success is 228 machines, in stark contrast to what I see in deployment monitoring.
How can I find out what is really going on with this deployment?

you should look at the logs on the client for unknown machines what are they doing like reeving policies or what went wrong.without logs, would be difficult to predict what went wrong.

  • SQL Views for applications, deployment types and deployments

Has anyone seen any diagrams yet of the relationship between the views in the database for applications?  They are needless to say quite a bit more complex than the old Packages/Programs/Advertisements views.  I can probably figure out what I need,
but it would save quite a time to be able to see the relationships called out.  A description of what some of the views actually do would be helpful too, I can figure out some, but others are a bit obtuse.
Unfortunately there isn't an out of the box report that shows the information my customer wants, so I have to create one from scratch.
If anyone is currious they want to see the status for all the computers that are targetted with an application deployment, this would include error codes, status, ect...
    Bob

Yes, I know this is an old post, but I’m trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?
The SQL view document has been release, it should help you out.
