Application hangs when using ProcessStartInfo and Process.WaitForExit.

I've looked on different threads about this, but all of them uses the Process.RedirectStandardOutput = True, which I don't.
I'm trying to open a process (console application, not made by me) to make it compile a special .acs file to a .o file. The structure is simple, the only argument is the file you want to compile.
But on certain files my application hangs when trying to open the process. Here's my code:
Dim p As New Process
Dim ps As New ProcessStartInfo
ps.Arguments = SavePath 'Path example: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Zandronum\File.acs"
ps.FileName = Path.Combine(System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory(), "Script Compilers\Zandronum\acc.exe")
ps.CreateNoWindow = False
ps.ErrorDialog = False
ps.UseShellExecute = True
ps.WindowStyle = ProcessWindowStyle.Hidden
ps.WorkingDirectory = Path.GetDirectoryName(SavePath)
Dim ErrorCaptured As Boolean = False
Try
p = Process.Start(ps)
Catch ex As Exception
ErrorCaptured = True
End Try
If ErrorCaptured = False Then
p.WaitForExit()
End If
If ErrorCaptured = True Then
Exit Sub
End If
Thanks!
//Visual Vincent
EDIT:
For starting the process I use pretty much the same code that another guy made in C#. And his code is working perfectly...
// Setup process info
processinfo = new ProcessStartInfo();
processinfo.Arguments = args;
processinfo.FileName = Path.Combine(this.tempdir.FullName, info.ProgramFile);
processinfo.CreateNoWindow = false;
processinfo.ErrorDialog = false;
processinfo.UseShellExecute = true;
processinfo.WindowStyle = ProcessWindowStyle.Hidden;
processinfo.WorkingDirectory = this.workingdir;
try
process = Process.Start(processinfo);
catch(Exception e)
// Unable to start the compiler
General.ShowErrorMessage("Unable to start the compiler (" + info.Name + "). " + e.GetType().Name + ": " + e.Message, MessageBoxButtons.OK);
return false;
// Wait for compiler to complete
process.WaitForExit();
I hope your day has been better than yesterday, but that it's worse than tomorrow...

Hi,
 Have you compared the FileNames and Arguments of ones that work and ones that don`t? Is there any difference in them such as the ones that work do not contain blank spaces in the FileName or arguments and the ones that do work don`t contain blank spaces
in them? If you find that to be the problem then you need to add Quotes to the beginning and end of the FileName or Arguments.
 My first guess is the Arguments needs the Quotes like this because, i see blank spaces in your example of the Arguments.
ps.Arguments = Chr(34) & SavePath & Chr(34)
If you say it can`t be done then i`ll try it
This actually made it. I had forgotten that blank spaces makes it a new argument, silly me. I don't use process arguments that often. ;)
Thanks alot!

  • Applications hang when using open/save dialog box

    Anyone else experiencing this? Mail, Safari, Lightroom, iTunes, etc...they all hang big time (several minutes) when I try open/save.

    Do you have any network drives or shared computers? I see this on occasion, too, and suspect it has to do with OSX needing to find all the possible places you might want to specify, and put them in the dialog.
    You might look in your logs (via the Console app in Applications/Utilities) just after this happens. Some clues may be lurking there.

  • Applications Hang when selecting / attaching a file using Spotlight

    Hi,
    Having a problem since upgrading to Snow Leopard with applications 'hanging' when trying to attach a file using Spotlight. I can repeatedly cause the failure in Mail and Safari - and probably others as well - but these two applications I use most often and need to attach files to most often.
    When I select "Attach a file", and use Spotlight to find the file to attach, the file dialog box closes and the attachment is apparently made - seconds later the spinning wheel appears and the dock tells me "Application Not Responding."
    Any ideas as to how / why this is happening? Help make it stop!
    Thank you,
    Gordon.

    OK Search box
    Mine is OK so something is screwy..
    In your Finder Prefs > Advanced > When performing a search drop down. Search this Mac seems to be default and the one I have set. Have you got it set to search the current folder or use the previous search instead?
    I'd then pull out the com.apple.finder.plist from your user Library > Preferences to the desktop and let finder make a new one. If all is OK trash the old one.
    Relaunch Finder by holding down the option key while right clicking Finder icon in the dock. Relaunch will be on the bottom of the context menu.

    I have an iMac 24" system. I just recently installed MAC OS X 10.7.4 (Lion) on my system. Since doing so, my system consistently hangs. Particularly when using iMovie and iPhoto. I have to power off my system to get it running again. Any suggestions on what I can do  to address this situation.

    I would first reset the SMC:
    Shut down and unplug the Mac.
    Keep the Mac unplugged for at least fifteen seconds.
    Plug the Mac back in and do not turn it back on for at least five seconds.
    Press the power button to turn the Mac back on.
    Then I would reset the PRAM by rebooting the iMac while simultaneously holding the Command-Option-P-R keys until the machine restarts a second time.
    Let us know if these  procedures don't solve the problems.
    Hope this helps

    Running Windows XP (even fully patched up with SP3 and latest fixes), you probably will have an increasing risk of Windows and IE being attacked. Windows XP has been getting security patches every month for over a decade. So it seems likely that people will continue to discover vulnerabilities in Windows XP that, over time, will be exploited (i.e., used in attacks).
    Windows 8.1? For a good experience, you probably would be better off getting a new computer than installing 8.1 on a system that is several years old. I realize not everyone's budget permits.
    What else can you do? It remains useful and important to keep your third party applications, such as Firefox, and your browser add-ons, such as Flash, up-to-date. It's also a good idea to run quality security software. And practice safe browsing habits like avoiding questionable websites and peer-to-peer networking, and being suspicious of email attachments.

    I suspect that the database environment believes that another process has the database open for writing. This cannot be the case, however, as all applications that access the database do so via an interface library I wrote that registers a termination function via the atexit() system-call to ensure that both the DB and DB_ENV handles are properly closed -- and all previously-executed applications terminated normally.
    The interface library opens the database like this (apparently, this forum doesn't support indentation, sorry):
    int status;
    Backend* backend = (Backend*)malloc(sizeof(Backend));
    if (NULL == backend) {
    else {
    DB_ENV* env;
    if (status = db_env_create(&env, 0)) {
    else {
    if (status = env->open(env, path,
    DB_CREATE | DB_INIT_CDB | DB_INIT_MPOOL, 0)) {
    else {
    DB* db;
    if (status = db_create(&db, env, 0)) {
    else {
    if (status = db->open(db, NULL, DB_FILENAME, NULL,
    DB_BTREE, forWriting ? DB_CREATE : DB_RDONLY, 0)) {
    else {
    backend->db = db;
    } /* "db" opened */
    if (status)
    db->close(db, 0);
    } /* "db" allocated */
    if (status) {
    env->close(env, 0);
    env = NULL;
    } /* "env" opened */
    if (status && NULL != env)
    env->close(env, 0);
    } /* "env" allocated */
    if (status)
    free(backend);
    } /* "backend" allocated */
    This code encounters no errors.
    The interface library also registers the following code to be executed when any process that uses the interface library exits:
    if (NULL != backend) {
    DB* db = backend->db;
    DB_ENV* env = db->get_env(db);
    if (db->close(db, 0)) {
    else {
    if (env->close(env, 0)) {
    else {
    /* database properly closed */
    As I indicated, all previously-executed processes that use the interface library terminated normally.
    I'm using version 4.8.24.NC of Berkeley DB on the following platform:
    $ uname -a
    Linux gilda.unidata.ucar.edu 2.6.27.41-170.2.117.fc10.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Dec 10 10:36:29 EST 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
    Any ideas?

    Bogdan,
    That can't be it. I'm using a structured programming style in which the successful initialization of a cursor is ultimately followed by a closing of the cursor. There's only one place where the code does this and it's obvious that the cursor gets released.
    I've also read the CDB section.

    ..I have been having image quality issues when using Lightroom to process raw files from a 7d mk2... They are all soft with poor clarity.....tonight in despair I tried processing them  using  canon's software and they are totally different..."much better"
    anyone else had similar problems....Andy

    I have a 7D2 and have not had what I interpret as poor image quality that has anything to do with the camera.
    Can you post a screenshot of what you’re seeing and what specifically you don’t like?  Maybe there is something you can do differently or at least there may be an explanation for what you’re seeing.
    And if you have a raw image that you wouldn’t mind sharing in a public forum, upload to http://www.dropbox.com/ then post a public share link to it in a reply, here.
    In other words post a screenshot of what you see in LR, another of what you see using DPP, and a link to the raw file you’re processing.

  • LabView (8.2) hangs when using I/O operations with traditional NI-DAQ 7.4.4 after aborting LabView program

    Hello!
    We have the following problem:
    LabView (8.2) hangs when using I/O operations with traditional NI-DAQ 7.4.4 after aborting LabView program
    We freshly installed LabView 8.2 (2006) and NI-DAQ 7.4.4 on a PC running Windows XP (Service Pack 3). We built a larger vi that remotely controls a traditional NI-DAQ card (AT-AO-10) on a second PC via NI-VISA 5.0.3. We were successfully running this program until a power failure caused the first computer to crash. After this crash we were unable to start the program again: LabView freezes while loading the vi. LabView itself can be started but freezes when adding I/O operations from the NI-DAQ palette to a block diagram.
    We have tried to re-install NI-DAQ 7.4.4, but it did not help. We then re-installed all NI software, but still no improvement. In the end we decided to reinstall ALL software, first Windows XP, then LabView and finally NI-DAQ 7.4.4. This worked. However, after a few days of running the program we had to abort LabView via Windows Task manager and afterward we again experienced the same problem as before: LabView freezes when loading the program.
    Obviously, we cannot afford to reinstall Windows every time. Are there any known Windows XP / NI-DAQ issues that might cause the freezing of LabView? We would be very grateful for any idea.
    Best regards,
    Matthias

    Hello Sprice,
    Browse the shipping examples according to “Directory Structure” and then select
    DAQ to find the Traditional DAQ examples.
    There a lot of examples that are written for counters (Counter >>
    daq-stc.llb >> Count Edges (DAQ-STC).vi).

  • Building executables when using LV and MATRIXx

    Hi!
    With respect to Building executables when using LV and MATRIXx, I need clarification on following:
    1) Pre-requisites to use MATRIXx? We have LV 7.1 FDS with application builder.
    2) Licensing scheme? We would like to have MATRIX on 3 development stations.
    3) Can we build stand alone executables when using MATRIXx with LV?
    4) Do we need to purchase any addon to achieve (3) ?
    Thanks,
    Gurdas

    Hello Gurdas,
    Before I answer your questions, I am curious to know what you have in mind for the stand alone executables you are interested in building. It may help me to know a little more detail about your plans. Depending on your application, some of these answers may or may not be applicable. In any case, here are answers to your questions:
    1) There are no prerequisites for using MATRIXx. LabVIEW is not required. However, with LabVIEW FDS, you do have an Xmath Script node located in the Functions > All Functions > Analyze > Mathematics > Formula palette. This node can be used to call Xmath scripts from LabVIEW.
    Note: To use the Xmath Script node successfully, you will want to install LabVIEW 7.1.1 Maintenance Release. Refer to KnowledgeBase 300A6NDT: How Can I Resolve MATLAB and Xmath Script Node Issues in LabVIEW?
    2) There are two licensing options for MATRIXx: node-locked and floating (concurrent). A node-locked license is restricted to a specific node and can be installed and used on that single computer. A floating (concurrent) license allows use of the product by a specified number of concurrent users on any computer on a local area network that includes a server running a single license manager. For more information, follow the link to the MATRIXx Price List from Products and Services: MATRIXx.
    3) There are two ways you might build executables when using MATRIXx and LabVIEW. One way uses a component of MATRIXx to automatically generate C code. AutoCode is a component of MATRIXx that allows the user to turn system models into C code. This C code can then be compiled into an EXE or DLL. If built into a DLL, LabVIEW can be used to call the DLL. A more thorough explanation of this is provided in Developer Zone Tutorial: Running MATRIXx SystemBuild Models in LabVIEW/LabVIEW Real-Time.
    Another way that may work is to build an executable from a LabVIEW VI that uses an Xmath Script Node. Any target machine running this executable would need to have Xmath and the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine installed.
    4) No other add-ons are needed for (3). Do be sure to refer to the note following the answer to (1).
    Regards,
    Eric M.

    Check System Preferences. I think Control-1 is used by something in the OS now. Switch it off. It's a major p[ain the way the OS is taking over more and more of the keyboard, allowing less options for application use.

  • How do I close a JInternalFrame when using subclasses and a separate cla...

    The heading should be: How do I close a JInternalFrame when using subclasses and a separate class for the actionListener?
    I have just created a JInternalFrame appclication and now I want to structure up my code. I have a Superclass that contains the usual settings for the two JInternalFrame:s, and the two subclasses with frame specific information. Both the JInternalFrames use the same OK button. I want to have the actionListener outside the classes to avoid repetition of code. But the dispose()-function does not work properly, it does not close the opened JInternalFrame. Whats wrong?
    class Superclass extends JFrame
         JButton b= new JButton("ok");
         Superclass()
    class Subclass1 extends Superclass
         Subclass1 ()
              add(ok);
           ok.addActionListener(new Listener());
    class Subclass2 extends Superclass
         Subclass2 ()
              add(ok);
           ok.addActionListener(new Listener());
    class Listener extends Superclass implements ActionListener
         public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
                   dispose();
    }How do I controll in the Listener class that the button in Subclass1 is beeing pressed?

    First of all I think I misunderstood your question. You said you had two internal frames, so I thought you wanted to close the internal frame.
    It now looks to me like you want to close the entire JFrame, which makes the code even a little easier. Something like:
    JComponent component = (JComponent)event.getSource();
    JFrame frame = (JFrame)SwingUtilities.windowForComponent( component );
    frame.dispose();
    Ok, I will make a try:
    public static Container getAncestorOfClass(Class c, Component comp)
    w.getAncestorOfClass(w, this); Fiirst you need to learn the basics of reading the API.
    "getAncestorOfClass()" is a static method. That means you don't use a variable to invoke the method. You use the class itself.
    "w" is a variable, which is a JFrame, but that is not what the first parameter should be. The first parameter is a "Class".
    "this" will refer to your Listener class, but you need the Component that generated the ActionEvent.
    When I thought you wanted to close an internal frame then the code would have been something like:
    JComponent component = (JComponent)event.getSource();
    Container container = SwingUtilities.getAncesterOfClass( JInternalFrame.class, component );
    JInternalFrame internalFrame = (JInternalFrame)container;
    internalFrame.invokeSomeMethodHere();If you need further help then you need to create a "Short, Self Contained, Compilable and Executable, Example Program (SSCCE)", that demonstrates the incorrect behaviour.

    My photos are sharp but become soft when used in and IDVD slide show. How can I prevent this from happining??

    Hi,
    I suggest that you try unchecking both of the crop options - landscape & portrait.
    To re-create your situation, I had to check the crop for landscape pictures option.
    I prefer to have control over any cropping so I tend to crop each image first before creating the slide show.

  • Dreamweaver CC generates one of 3 error messages when using find and replace on Win 8.1 64 bit.

    Dreamweaver CC generates one of 3 error messages when using find and replace is used more than twice in succession. "While executing onLoad in bc_afterSave.htm, the following JavaScript error(s) occurred: At line 188 of file C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe|Adobe DreamweaverCC|Configuration|Shared|BC\JS\bc_sites.js": out of memory"
    or
    While executing runCommand in File_Save.htm, a JavaScript erroroccurred.
    or
    While exciting getDynamicContent inAdressURL.htm, a Javascript erroroccirred.
    Any thoughts - I end up closing DWCC and reopening. Will work for two additional Find and Replace before the error messaged\s popup again.

    Thanks Jon. I tried all of those solutions before posting. Same problem. It seems that the problem is tied to DWCC. Do not have the problem when using DW6 on Win8.1. When running DWCC on a Win7 pc, we get the same error message. When running DW6 on Win 7, f&c works fine. It seems to be a bug in DWCC. DWCC works flawlessly on our Macs.
    The same steps apply to DWCC, you just need to choose the CC folders rather than the DWCS4-6 versions that the page talks about. The layout of CC's folders hasn't changed from the older versions which is why, I think, Adobe hasn't updated the troubleshooting page as of yet.
    As Nancy mentions, a 38,500 page site is sort of ridiculously large for a static website, that could be part of the problem, but your response quoted above leads me to think you may have tried the troubleshooting steps in the wrong version of the program. Could you confirm that?

    freezing/hanging when taking pictures and videos  in i phone 4 with flash on.

    Hi Mister.
    Let's try to answer your questions.
    - The E5 does not have a red light when you take pictures.
    - I don't know about battery life comparing with E6 and E72, just can say on the E5 is quite good. It has a 1200 mAh battery, you should check the others, but also the features of each one, i.e. the E6 is a touchscreen one, so it consumes more power.
    - It has a notification white light, around the navigation button.
