Application Module holds the DB Connection till we commit?

Hi All,
Jdeveloper :- 11.1.1.5
As in my business scenario ,i have an EO and VO and there AM.In VO we have a bind variable which is nothing but the task Id.On Page Load i pass the bind variable to the VO and fetch the data onto the page.As user update the data onto the page and then when he press submit, we actually calls the stored procedure which finally updates the data in the table for the same task id.
But the problem is , when i am fetching the data from the table using AM,it actually creates a connection with the database but it doesn't release the connection.
Is there any way where we fetch the data from the table using AM and then close or release the connection so that while submitting tha data to the table using stored proc will not get the locked row.
Please suggest!!!

Have you set up the application module to use optimistic locking?
This mode should hole the lock only during update of the row.
I don't think the problem is tied to the connection pool. An application module holds on to the jdbc connection until it gets released from the application module pool. This only happens is a application module is not used for a configurable idle time (one of the pooling parameters). If you app releases an application module the module is put back into the application module pool for resuse and holds the connection.

  • When the application module starts the trans?

    Hi,
    For ADF application module, when does it start a trans?Is it the case the AM method(even read only method) exposed to view layer, then the trans starts automatically when the page is loaded? Or when getDBTransaction() is called? or even latter when actual update or some specific method is called from the trans? Just wondering whether a commit/rollback is expected when even an exposed method is called by view layer even it is readonly.
    Hui

    Thx, Tim.
    We are use optimistic in the AMs. We have some AMs just do data query. But there is VPD on one of the table, query on the table will trigger the VPD table updates from database, and if db side detects the parent query sql has transaction associated, the vpd related update will not be committed and expects the parent trans will be commit/rollback But if the AM is cached, and no explicit commit/rolback was issued. Will the underlying VPD updates stay there not commit/rollback

  • How to make two Application Modules share the same entity cache?

    Hello everyone, I am using JDeveloper 11.1.2.3.0
    I have a little problem in my application through using two AppModules that contain also same ViewObjects. So to be clear one VO is declared in two AppModules. When I commit the view by using AppModule1 and then go to another page that uses the same VO but from AppModule2, I have to commit again, even through the row is previously stored in the database.
    I understood that this came because different AppModules use different entityCache for database communications.
    I am asking if anyone knows any option on how to sync the entity caches from the two appmodules, or how to make them use the same entity cache.
    Thank you

    You can make a copy of the app and give it another name, but it will use the same settings files no matter which you open. Settings aren't stored in the app, but in your Preferences.
    Firefox, being a Windows derivative, might have the capability to use "Profiles" where you'd set it up different for each profile. I don't use Firefox, so I don't know if that option exists.

  • How to hold the main thread, till response is received from the server?

    I have a program in which the GUI client(View program in Swings) sends a request to server (Manager program) , and waits for the response from Manager.
    The method used is waitForResponse() as follows
    <code>
    private void waitForResponse()
    m_blWaitFlag=true;
    //after response from manager m_blWait flag is set to false.
    while (m_blWaitFlag)
    try
    Thread.sleep(500);
    }catch(Exception r_ex)
    </code>
    And in notifyResponse() method, the wait flag is set to false
    as in,
    <code>
    public void notifyResponse(VcvResponse r_objResponse)
    m_blWaitFlag = false; //this line makes the thread to come out of the wait mode.
    </code>
    When I click a menu item, this request is sent and there is a wait for a response from manager.
    The problem is , this kind of waiting makes the system slow, and grey patches are seen immediately after clicking a menu item.
    Are there other ways of waiting??
    Thanks in advance

    When I click a menu item, this request is sent and there is a wait for a response from manager.This means you are using the GUI thread to send the request.
    The problem is , this kind of waiting makes the system slow, and grey patches are seen immediately after clicking a menu item.This means the GUI thread is waiting for the response. No GUI updates can occur while it is waiting.
    Are there other ways of waiting??Use another thread. e.g the main as you suggested. If you are using a callback, why do you have a thread waiting at all? WHy not do the things you would do when a response comes back in the call back?

  • Setting v$session.program property in application module config

    How can I set the v$session.program property in the AM config, so that when a new connection is created, the v$session.program field is documented with the property value.
    I added the following in JClient JCLoginDialog:
    ((Hashtable)connEnvironment).put("v$session.program", "my program name");
    I traced the V$SESSION TABLE:
    The added connection has "my program name" in the program field but if I open other application module instances, the new connections have an empty v$session.program field.
    I suppose that a property must be added to all application module configurations.
    Can somebody help me on this one?
    The v$session.program field is helpful when sessions must be killed.
    Thanks
    Fred

    I don't believe there is a built-in mechanism for that.
    But you can easily do it yourself. In you AM class:
    public void prepareSession( Session session ) {
        super.prepareSession( session );
        setDatabaseClientInfo( Bc4jConstants.APPLICATION_NAME );
        setDatabaseModuleInfo( moduleInfo );
    }And then:
      public void setDatabaseClientInfo( String clientInfo ) {
        try {
          this.getTransaction( ).executeCommand(
            "BEGIN dbms_application_info.set_client_info('" + clientInfo + "'); END;" );
        } catch( Exception e ) {
          // uncritical error
          log.warn( "Error setting the database client info: " + clientInfo, e );
      }and
      public void setDatabaseModuleInfo( String moduleInfo ) {
        if( moduleInfo != null ) {
          try {
            this.getTransaction( ).executeCommand( "BEGIN dbms_application_info.set_module('"
              + moduleInfo + "', NULL); END;" );
          } catch( Exception exception ) {
            // uncritical error
            log.warn( "Error setting the database module info: " + moduleInfo, exception );
      }In a similar fashion you can set the client identifier. We use the moduleInfo to identify the module of the session. The client info helps us to identify the application.

    Hi,
    Please post test steps using the BC4J tester or a test script that illustrates the issue against a simple table. Otherwise, it is extremeley difficult to debug/diagnose the issue on this forum.
    I have not seen this issue in any of the automated unit test scripts that exercise the ApplicationModule pooling.

    Moneesh,
    I believe there is a problem with the way you set the variable theAMDefName. It should be:
    String theAMDefName = freshJBO.FreshJBOModule";
    Then you need to reinstate the line you commented out, to set the application path (but remove the trailing / from the path, as shown):
    env.put(JboContext.APPLICATION_PATH, "test/jd");
    If that doesn't work, and for future reference, I suggest testing your deployed application module from the Business Component Browser (aka the tester) before trying your hand-coded client. Start the tester, select Oracle8i as the middle tier server type, make sure the other information in the connect window is correct, then click Connect.
    Good luck

  • Nested application module use own connection

    Hi everyone,
    I'm trying to figure out how to let a nested application module use it's own connection instead of it's parent.
    Any suggestions?
    We're using Jdeveloper 10.1.3.3.0.
    Regards

    Hi,
    The issue is not about the data, but about the database connection. The idea is to have a general BC library (with iits Application Modules and View Objects), using its own database schema, and have that one imported in other applications, with other database schemas.
    We have to use these imported BC's in the application AM, because that's the way JHeadstart works. This will result in a table not found exception, because the imported VO's are in another schema.
    We were hoping that we could nest an imported Application Module and that it uses its own connection to its own database schema, but unfortuantely that does not seem possible since nested application modules inherit the connection of the parent (root) application module.
    Or is there perhaps a way to achieve this; i.e. have a nested application module using its own database connection and not inherit this from its parent?
    Ciao

  • Howto stop the application module from using a DB

    Hello,
    Maybe and unusual question, but is there a way to stop the application module from connect to a DB? I know its purpose is to do so. But currently we are using ‘stub’ views and entities.
    In the executequery and dodml we wrote our own code to access data from webservices.
    We did this because we are also using JHeadStart which requires BC.
    It all works fine, but the application module needs a valid connection to a DB, although it will never query anything there.
    So is there a method which I can overwrite to make the application module think its connected to the DB but it actually isn’t?
    A second problem is most likely its state table.
    Anton

    Example #96 on my blog does this. It might have some useful clues.

    I publish a Application Module into Oracle 8i Server. When I operate the view object in a class that published in Oracle 8i Server.
    It raise a remoteException. Can I operate the view object outside application module?

    Hi,
    The application module is the main point of contact for the ViewObject and EntityObject classes. It handles things like the connection pooling and other coordination aspects.
    You need to go through the app module to access the ViewObject class methods.

    Hi,
    I have an application module pool and database connection pool,
    Documentations suggest that, when an application module is released in stateless mode irrespective of the jbo.doconnectionpooling property the connection aquired by the app module will be released.But this is not happening.What could be the reason.Is this a BUG in BC4J!!!!!!!!.
    Also whenever i check out an app module, 2 database connections are getting opened instead of one. What is the strange problem!!!!!!!.
    Can anybody guide me.
    Thanks,
    Dutt..

    BD - I have a hunch that it has more to do with cvs in a multi-user environment ... but cannot test that out right now since the multi-user component of this problem happens to be out of the office until Monday ;-) I'm thinking it's possible that, since we have slightly different paths to the residents in our workspace, we're fighting over configurations upon committing and updating.
    I'll be sure to post steps in recreating this problem very early next week.

  • (IMP)Application module and database connection

    Hi,
    How application module pooling and database connection pooling is working ?
    Currently i m facing a problem like if i am creating 10 browser session then it doesn't mean that i'll have only 10 db sessions. While closing the browser session of application module time out respective db session is not removed.
    In this case, invalid db session are created in bulk which is crashing database sometime. We have writter script to kill those session periodically but in this case if application module is accessing such dbconnection then we are getting session killed error or not logged in error.
    To over come we need to bounce the server (middle tier).
    Is there any proper way to solve this or am i doing something wrong ?
    Please let me know if you need any more details.

  • Problems with the Application Module Pool

    Hello,
    We have an Oracle ADF Application working in a production enviroment. The application module pool seems to work properly during the first days, but after a few days, the application module pool seems not to work properly. We start to get some errors like JBO-30003: the application pool failed to checkout an application module.
    We have included in the application a DumpPoolStatistics servlet, and what we have observed is:
    1. When the application is restarted in the server, the "total number of application modules in the pool" is equal to "maximum number of application modules in the pool".
    2. Several days after, the "total number of application modules in the pool" starts to decrease.
    We don't know why the "total number of application modules in the pool" starts to decrease, but we think this is the reason of the errors. In fact, "total number of application modules in the pool" is lower than the "jbo.ampool.minavailablesize" parameter value.
    The management of the application module pool is not a task of the developer, so we don't undestand where is the problem.
    We have configured the application module with the next parameters:
    <jbo.ampool.initpoolsize>10</jbo.ampool.initpoolsize>

    Thanks in advance!

    Sorry, you are right, the number of application modules created whe the application starts is given by the jbo.ampool.initpoolsize. But what it is sure is that the "total number of application modules in the pool" starts to decrease. The number of days is not always the same. But we have to restart the application occasionally.
    I think the time parameters are ok, I would like for example 10 minutes for pool resoruce cleanup, and 10 minutes for considering an inactive AM instance in the pool as a candidate for removal during the next resource cleanup.
    <jbo.ampool.monitorsleepinterval>600000</jbo.ampool.monitorsleepinterval> --> 10 minutes
    <jbo.ampool.maxinactiveage>600000</jbo.ampool.minavailablesize> --> 10 minutes
    Is this right?
