Application organisation

Hello
We will shortly be starting our first application with JDeveloper (ADF 11 BC, ADF 11 Rich Faces).
One aspect of the application is what we call the "basic tables"
These tables are where the user will input the basic information require for the rest of the application.
ex. Product list, currency list, customer list etc.
There will be around 20 of these basic tables (each one using 1 or more DB tables) each with their own CRUD flow.
As I understand things each CRUD flow will need its own application module in order to commit/rollback just the DB tables concerned by the CRUD flow.
This would mean 20 or more application modules, 20 or more task flows, a lot of jspx pages etc. in the same application and the core of the application doesn't yet exist.
What's the best way to organize a real life application, is there a reference document somewhere ?
Should I put everything in the same Jdev application using projects and packages to organise things or is it
better to create several Jdev applications and use URL view etc. for part of the navigation ?
A advice would be appreciated
Paul

I'm not sure why you think that you'll need a separate AM for each table - is there any specific reason for this?
If I understand your description correctly you are talking about creating a set of "code tables" that you would like to maintain.
I would create one "maintenance" application for all of these code tables - have them all in one AM and have the screens that update them in a single ViewController project.
If the code tables are used in read only mode in all the other projects, create another AM that has read-only VOs working on these tables and reuse this AM as a nested AM in your other projects:

  • Problem saving ACL in 4.1

    We're running an old Netscape LDAP 4.1 server on NT 4 SP6, and we have observed some weird behaviour.
    1. A lot of time, when we try to save an ACL using the Netscape console, it gave "LDAP Error: error result (20); Type or value exists".
    2. Even though the ACL might be saved, it happened a few times that after a server reboot, the rules do not seem to be in effect. The rules are listed in the Netscape Console, and we have to go in and re-save every rule. A lot of time, we hit problem 1 above.
    Any ideas?

    Hi all,
    To start a point on the server changes between 3.2 and 4.1 :
    * We went from a 32-bit Ubuntu server to a 64-bit and have followed the installation procedure of 4.1 by changing the settings of linux such as requested
    * The problems described are only in Apex, so we repeat an installation now in case we made an error
    I tried to use TKPROF but I did not find a lot of information in the result output so I gave up. I certainly did not understand all !
    I use the view apex_workspace_activity_log to find something ... and I find a lot of things but nothing directly closed to the problem.
    At this point I have to explain our applications organisation :
    * A connexion with validation via LDAP (AD) (no problem)
    * A core application as a crossroads to other applications (via URL and &SESSION.)
    It seems that this central application have never log in apex_workspace_activity_log ? very strange, like this application are in cache ?
    In addition, we are often disconnected after some idle time.
    The problem is like a random time out (10 to 20 seconds) whatever the application used (builder or user application). this is not a problem specific to an application.
    We have no idea to search ... so we test a new install, maybe parameters on Ubuntu ?
    Thanks for your answers.

  • Instanciate generic subclass of an abstract class

    Hello,
    I'm writing a litle file manager API for my application, organised like a Database: a table filled by records.
    I want my table to be able to be able to manage different types of records (but one record type by table!), so I have this hierarchy:
    the abstract record class:
    public abstract class Record {
         public Record() {
         public abstract void readFrom(DataInput in, int length) throws IOException;
         public abstract void writeTo(DataOutput out) throws IOException;
         public abstract int prepareToWrite();
    }the abstract atomic record class, extending the abstract record class:
    public abstract class AtomicRecord<T> extends Record {
         public AtomicRecord() {
         public AtomicRecord(T value) {
              super();
         public abstract T getValue();
         public abstract void setValue(T value);
    }and, for example, the StringRecord class:
    public class StringRecord extends AtomicRecord<String> {
         code doesn't matter.
    }now, I want to make a table of generic records:
    public class RandomRecordAccessAppendableFileTable<RecordType extends Record>{
         public final RecordType getRecord(long id) throws IOException {
              RecordType record = new RecordType();
    }problem: the RecordType is obviously not instanciable, as it extends Record, and not StringRecord. But I still want to instanciate a new StringRecord from a RandomRecordAccessAppendableFileTable<StringRecord> and a FooRecord from a RandomRecordAccessAppendableFileTable<FooRecord>.
    Is there a way I can do this?
    Thank you in advance.

    This is just my opinion, so you might ignore it: The design you are targeting is a result of misunderstanding what Generics are for and what Generics may provide in their current state. Their only purpose is to provide compile-time type safety. Creating instances the way you want to do seems more runtime focused, i.e., when generic information is gone.
    Maybe, you should consider passing a factory at construction time that enables to create a record of a specific type. Using the class object requires reflection, which will introduce implicit contracts to record classes and potential runtime failures.

  • Broken screen but need to enable mass storage mode blind

    Hi there.
    I have a Curve 8900 with a broken screen. I have connected it to Blackberry Desktop Software to get anything I can backed up. It appears to backup all application & organiser things, but wont let me sync music, pictures, or videos.  Troubleshooter suggests that it's because I haven't enabled Mass Storage, but obviously I cant see the screen to see if prompts me to enable it. I have tried connecting my phone and randomly scrolling to see if I can click "yes" to enable it by chance, but it is just as likely that I have clicked "do not ask me again" and then clicked "no" as well.
    Can anyone guide me through the long way of going into settings and changing it manually, bearing in mind that I cannot see what is actually happening? Or does anyone know a way around it?
    Also, my menu was exactly the same as when I originally got it, with no added icons. I seem to remember 'settings' being on the last row but not at the very end. Thanks.
    UPDATE- ok i've worked out how to get into settings, but can someone tell me how to get to Enable Mass Storage mode from there? Like either how many rows to scroll down etc, or if pressing a letter takes me to the correct option, and then where from there?

  • Bursting Query

    Hi,
    I would like to use BI Publisher to email reports to customers using 'Bursting'. I have already defined the data source that is coming from a report based in answers (OBIEE). I am not sure how the query should be defined in the bursting properties as I am not directly querying any tables as below:
    SELECT DISTINCT customer KEY,
    'CUST_PDF' TEMPLATE,
    'RTF' TEMPLATE_FORMAT,
    'en-US' LOCALE,
    'PDF' OUTPUT_FORMAT,
    'EMAIL' del_channel,
    cust_email PARAMETER1,
    '[email protected]' PARAMETER2,
    '[email protected]' parameter3,
    'Customer Arrears Update' parameter4,
    'Dear'
    ||' '
    || cust ||chr(13)
    || 'Please find attached your arrears invoice.'
    ||chr(13)
    || 'Regards'
    ||chr(13)
    || 'Collections Team' PARAMETER5,
    'true' parameter6,
    '[email protected]' parameter7
    FROM ?
    I have already defined the data source and not sure how this query captures this. Can anyone help?
    Thanks

    Thanks I am trying to avoid replicating code and building extra tables to store email addresses. I am trying to build the same query as in OBIEE but only selecting the relevant fields and conditions. I have used the 'Query Builder' in bursting properties as below:
    select DISTINCT Broker."Introducer Name" KEY,
    'Broker_Props_Monthly' TEMPLATE,
    'RTF' TEMPLATE_FORMAT,
    'en-US' LOCALE,
    'EXCEL' OUTPUT_FORMAT,

    || 'Please find attached your update.'
    ||chr(13)

    ||chr(13)
    || 'Collections' PARAMETER5,
    'true' parameter6
    [email protected]' parameter7
    from     "Applications".Organisation Organisation,
         "Applications".Broker Broker,
         "Applications"."Fact" "Fact"
    where Organisation.Channel = 'FRM'
    and ("Fact"."Proposal Date" between '01-FEB-2012' AND '29-FEB-2012' OR "Fact"."Activation" between '01-FEB-2012' AND '29-FEB-2012')
    Unfortunately when running this job it fails:
    oracle.apps.xdo.servlet.scheduler.ProcessingException: oracle.apps.xdo.XDOException: java.io.IOException: prepare query failed[nQSError: 27002] Near <->: Syntax error [nQSError: 26012]
    The error message isnt very clear, can anyone help with identifying where the problem lies in the query.

  • Class organisation of a GUI based application

    I am interested in some tips on how to organise classes in a application that has a GUI.
    I am not sure how many classes should i have.
    Should there be a new custom class for every component i use? Or should i make custom classes only for containers like JPanels?
    Do you know any patterns or conventions that could be of help... some tutorial of that sort that can be downloaded?
    Thank you.
    Borut.

    Check out the Model View Controller pattern for this look up MVC, and see what you get, this is where you prob want to go w/ this. Good luck

  • Organise a j2ee application.

    Hello,
    I would like to know how to organise my j2ee project.
    I have actually one ejb module, one web module, one java module.
    But now I would like to add another web module.
    I never worked with jdeveloper before.
    I have problems to understand how to organise my project because I don't know exactly how works this ide.
    For my complete application, I must create a new application?
    For my differents modules, I must create a new project for each of them?
    How to include dependencies between each modules.
    If you have a link which explain exactly how to organise my projects, that would be very nice
    Thanks for your answers.

    For a J2EE application create a Application Workspace.
    1. Right-click on the Applications node in the Application-Navigator and select New Application Workspace.
    2. In the Create Application Workspace frame, select a application template in the Application Template select list. Nodes for the application workspace and the selected application template get added.
    3. To add aditional projects for web modules right-click on the Application workspace node in the Applications-Navigator and select New Project.

  • What is the best way to ask organisations to authorize your application?

    We want to support Office 365 customers with organizational account (type 2 as shown in REST API docs - http://msdn.microsoft.com/office/office365/APi/discovery-service-rest-operations). We basically followed these steps:
    Subscribe to O365 with organizational account (developer preview trial in our case).
    Create our own application in Azure AD managing our O365 organization.
    Configure end-points and other application settings in Azure AD.
    Integrate and test the actual non-Azure service on our side which is consuming Azure AD and O365 APIs.
    What we have found during tests is that users from different organizations cannot authorize our application to access their data. It
    simply fails, they don’t even have the option. On the other hand, users from our organization are not presented with anything.
    I understand that principle behind this is that admins are responsible for allowing applications that users in their organization can use. But
    how can users or admins from different organizations use our application?
    We know there is an application directory for Azure AD. But it seems like rather brutal approach to what is fairly straight forward elsewhere - including
    Microsoft's own Live and O365 services consumed by Microsoft account (type 1 as shown in REST API docs).
    Therefore, we wonder whether there is something we are missing? Some settings in application manifests? Some process which we must undertake
    to be verified as a trusted developer/application?

    In order for other organizational users to access your application using their organizational account, they need to setup ADFS (or others like SiteMinder, etc.) to act as identity provider (or authorization server) and to achieve single sign-on capability.
    For example, when a user access your application, your application directs the user back to his/her own ADFS server. ADFS server validates the identity and provides a claims token. The user then access the application and now he/she has
    the token and is granted access. Maybe this link can help:

    06826 14:51:25 (0) **      You can correct the missing class definitions by:
    06827 14:51:25 (0) **      - Manually recompiling the MOF file(s) with the 'MOFCOMP <FileName.MOF>' command.
    06828 14:51:25 (0) **      Note: You can build a list of classes in relation with their WMI provider and MOF file with WMIDiag.

    06834 14:51:25 (0) **    - a WMI repository corruption.
    06835 14:51:25 (0) **      In such a case, you must rerun WMIDiag with 'WriteInRepository' parameter

    06840 14:51:25 (0) **    - If the WriteInRepository command fails, while being an Administrator with ALL accesses to ALL namespaces
    06841 14:51:25 (0) **      the WMI repository must be reconstructed.
    06842 14:51:25 (0) **    Note: The WMI repository reconstruction requires to locate all MOF files needed to rebuild the repository,

    A Wmiprvse.exe process crashes in Windows Server 2008 R2 when you use the WMI interface to query the hardware status on a computer that supports the IPMI standard

    I saw this in my googling.  Listed as the cause on the hotfix page is the following: "This
    problem occurs because the Ipmiprv.dll module leads the Wmiprvse.exe process to crash. This behavior depends on certain hardware sensor types when the sensor is enumerated."  The
    faulting module for that hotfix is ipmiprv.dll, and our faulting module is ntdll.dll.  I'm thinking that this hotfix isn't applicable, but I'm open to hearing why I'm incorrect if I am.

  • Mobile applications downloading to different folder

    Just moved my itunes library across to my new machine, organised and consolidated and all working well with one exception.
    I have the new iTunes Media structure that has created under an iTunes folder, all of the folders are there, Music, Podcasts, Mobile Apps, etc.
    An iTunes Media folder has also been created with just a Mobile Applications folder under it.
    When I download an iphone app they save to the folder under iTunes Media folder, if I then run Consolidation - it copies the app to the one under iTunes.
    Can't figure out why these aren't saving to this folder in the first place!! I have the organise settings, etc ticked.

    Hi all,
    I'm having this exact problem. I did a proper move of my iTunes media over to an external drive where it set up an iTunes folder and within are Mobile Applications, Music, Movies, Podcasts, all that sort of thing. However, all new applications have been downloaded to a folder on my actual iMac drive:
    ~/iTunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Applications
    I don't want to go messing around with aliases or symbolic links, I just want my Apps to download to the correct folder, same as every single other iTunes media file is perfectly able to do. Newly purchased music doesn't do this, nor does podcasts. So why do Apps? Weird.
    Any solution other than regular Consolidation? (and how do you do that, anyway?)
    Cheers!

  • Missing Pages file in /Library/ Application Support

    Hello, I want to import new templates into Pages but (unlike my Keynote app), there is no sign of a Pages system folder either in /Library/ Application Support/ or via a search in Spotlight. Where is this likely to be - the software works so it must be nested somewhere?
    Stuart

    Hello Pixelpics,
    if there are no folders "<YourHD>/Users/<YourAccount>/Library/Application Support/iWork/Pages/Templates", create them. And in "Templates" you have to create folders not only for organisation purposes. If you copy templates directly into "Templates", Pages won't find the copied templates.
    Make sure you are working with the newest versions (Pages 1.0.2, Keynote 2.0.2).
    Frank.
