Application storage directory for CS Extensions?

hi,
I want to convert my AIR app. into a CS Extension. I have local configuration xml files in my AIR app and I use File.applicationDirectory, File.applicationStorageDirectory..etc to read and write to those configuration files. I have external web service url and other information in those config files that needs to be changed by the user. Also: once the extension is deployed, is there a way to change that?
Can you please tell me what is the equivalent in Cs extensions?
thanks,

You can use the CSXSInterface preference object, but I've found that file to not be the most stable.
I'd recommend writing the data yourself.
If you want to be fancy you can use a SQLLite DB for that, but a text file is simplest...

  • Overwriting Application Storage Directory on new installs

    Hi,
    I have an AIR app that gets bundled with XML files that the app needs.  These get put into the APP Storage Directory.  Works great.  But when I install a new version ( which includes new XML files) , the new files don't get added or overwrite the ones for the previous version.  It seems that if that directory is there from a previous install, the installer will ignore the part where it moves included files.
    Thank you for any help.

    I found out what I was doing wrong.  I didn't realize that the files  also get copied to ApplicationDirectory.  These files do get updated on  new installs so accessing them from there instead of storage was the  key. It does make sense to not futz with the storage dir on uprades so  the users pref files etc don't get deleted.

  • Problem fixing Lacie disk as storage directory for Itunes and other program

    Hello,
    I have a Lacie disk 250 GB, it works well but i don´t know why it creates different volumes, like "Lacie Disk 1", "Lacie Disk 2", etc. Like that untill 5! The problem is that once the system creates a new volume version, i can´t find the files in the older volume version. I have a lot of information in my "Lacie Disk 4" but can´t reach it. How can I do to enter to the Volumes folder from the finder? Thank u very much for assistance

    Hi eww,
    Sorry, i didn´t explained it very well, but the problem is that I don´t understand this problem too. So, to answer you. 1) I did not partitioned my disk ; 2) When I connect it, i have just "Lacie Disk" on my finder ; 3) When I mention "volumes" the thing is that when I want to choose a directory for my downloads or Itunes, it appears on Powerbook G4/Volumes/LacieDisk. But then, I try to find it on the Finder but I can´t see that folder "volumes".
    I opened Disk utility, and just to show how it appears
    "Mount Point : /Volumes/LaCie Disk 5". My problem is that i don´t know why, it changed from LaCieDisk 4 to 5, and that i have information on that one which I can´t see but know it is there.
    Hope to be clearer now, but i´m not sure :)) If you want i can send u by email a photo of my problem

  • Is there a way to create a new directory or file in application install directory programatically

    Hi to all,
    Is there a way to create a new directory or file in
    application install directory programatically.
    I want a xml file to be created with in the application
    install directory programatically(not the application storage
    directory)
    I have used the following code snippet:
    var file:File = new File();
    file = File.applicationDirectory;
    file = file.resolvePath("assets");
    if(!file.exists)
    file.createDirectory()
    I am thrown an exception when using this .....Security
    Exception

    Thanks, but my main problem is to delete the locally stored
    data that is stored in the application storage directory when the
    application is uninstalled.
    The data is not being deleted automatically when the
    application is uninstalled, thats why I want to write some file to
    application directory.
    My application is remembering the login username and password
    even I uninstall the application and reinstall the next
    time.

  • Best directory for isnatlling Unix Applications in Snow Leopard?

    Can someone advise me on the best location for installing Unix Applications in Snow Leopard? Should I install them in /usr/local or create a new /opt directory for them? My understanding is that OS X 10.6 does not come with /opt. I prefer to install manually and not use third party software (e.g. Fink).
    Many thanks.

    If you are downloading and compiling your own sources, then /usr/local/... would be the expected location.
    If you are using the MacPorts.org already ported packages, then get placed in /opt/local/...
    If you are using Fink.sf.net already ported packages, then the get placed in /sw/...
    And for a few Unix tools at work, and I can not modify my host system, I put it in $HOME/local/..., which works for me because my company uses NFS to allow the use of my same home directory on multiple systems. This works as long as I do not exceed my corporate home directory storage quota

  • Write access to a directory for ASP 2.0 application stops working on Windows 2012 Standard Cloud Server

    Just moved our ASP 2.0 based web application to a Windows 2012 Standard Cloud Server.  A directory is used for temporary copying of files for the application.  The Read Write access is properly given and everything works but then stops working
    in about 2.5 hours.  The settings are still there, to make things work again typically I add "Everyone" to the security list and apply and then 3 hours later I remove "Everyone" and this refreshes the security setting and things work
    againg for a couple of hours.  Last Cloud server was 2008 R2 and we had no issues.  Recently moved to this new cloud server.  Code has been functioning fine for years and can not migrate it to newer ASP since will have to make quite a few code
    changes.  Obviously a bug which needs to be addressed.  Again the security settings do not disappear but are no longer handled properly every 3 hours or so.

    Hi,
    Is there any other files have the same issue? Please create a test folder and give the same permissions with the directory for ASP 2.0 application to see if the issue still exists.

  • Best practice for setting up directory for application specific entries

    In OID I want to add some information we need for our authorisation. The default authorisation isn't enough: users are allowed to access servlets if the data belongs to a group. And possibly they are allowed more then one roles for more then one data-groups. So for examle: datagroup1+role1+, datagroup1+role2 and datagroup2+role1.
    I want to define a application-specific tree for this data, something like:
    - Lariscontext (our application)
    ____|-Groups
    ______|--- group1 --- role1
    ______|_________|- role2
    ______|----group2 --- role1
    ________________|- role3
    And from the user-entry I want to refer to those entries, with constraints to check if they exist.
    - users
    ______|---- user1
    ____________attributs:cn=role1,cn=group1
    ____________________cn=role2,cn=group1
    ____________________cn=role1,cn=group2
    Are there any guidelines of how to do this, which object classes are usefull etc? Should I do this this way.
    regards,
    Eelco

    Did you ever come up with a way to set up the directory to handle the authorization details as you described. I have pretty much the same situation and I am looking for a starting point as to how best to setup the directory tree's users.

  • How to set a root directory for file management in web application

    Is it possible to set a default root directory for file management for a web application ?
    We would upload some files and store them in the web server.
    When we write the uploaded files without any path, the files are written in the config directory into the jdeveloper embedded oc4j directory.
    When we write the uploaded with a relative path ("/somedir/filename"), the files are written in C:/somedir/filename.
    We would like that all file management with relative path into the web application refer automatically to a given root directory (for example defined in web.xml).
    Is it possible ?

    I'm using the standard upload in adf faces.
    The problem is not during upload. This is managed in a temporay directory defined in web.xml. The problem is for writing the file that was uploaded (upload give us an inputStream we have to write somewhere, eventually after unzipping).
    Here is an example of our current code.
    if (mimeType.equals("application/x-zip-compressed") |
    mimeType.equals("application/zip")) {
    File destZipFile =
    new File(rootDirectory + "/" + parametersDirectory +
    "/" + uploadedFile.getFilename());
    BufferedInputStream isZipFile =
    new BufferedInputStream(uploadedFile.getInputStream());
    FileOutputStream fosZipFile =
    new FileOutputStream(destZipFile);
    BufferedOutputStream bosZipFile =
    new BufferedOutputStream(fosZipFile, BUFFER);
    // read and write until last byte is encountered
    while ((currentByte = isZipFile.read(data, 0, BUFFER)) !=
    -1) {
    bosZipFile.write(data, 0, currentByte);
    }

  • Error: X "does not have permission to write to the application's directory! Are you running off a disk image? If not, ask your system administrator for help."

    I have received to following error from at least three different applications when they have attempted to auto-update recently: X "does not have permission to write to the application's directory! Are you running off a disk image? If not, ask your system administrator for help."
    I am not running off a disk image and I have admin privileges... Not sure what the problem is, but it just started happening (a week or two ago) and I have never previously had a problem with these applications auto-updating.  I have repaired permissions and attempted other "fixes" found on the interweb, but nothing works.  Also, this is only happening on my iMac (27" Intel i5) and not my MacBook Pro (17" Intel i5) -- both are running Lion.  Please help!

    If you updated using the default install (merge) from before Tiger, you may be seeing an issue that we saw when Leopard first came out last year.
    Not sure of the fix - it was not simple - but if you search back in these forums you might find something that will help. I believe it deals with the numbers assigned to accounts (501, etc).
    If you open your Accounts Preferences and unlock the padlock, right-click Advanced Options and read your User ID and Group ID. Let us know what they are.
    Now, in the other user admin account, do the same thing.
    One of the real experts who knows much more about this than I may be able to then help.

  • Change default application for mp3 extensions

    Hello! Thank you in advance to any helpers. This is what I think is wrong:
    I recently had some problems with safari, so I downloaded Firefox. In doing that, I think I changed my defaults for certain extensions, namely mp3.
    So, all email mp3 attachments are opening in another webpage, instead of iTunes (which was the previous default). I do not have any start up disks as this is a hand-me-down laptop and I cannot figure out how to change the default back.
    I tried dragging the file to the desktop, from the email, and it still showed up as a webpage. So I did the whole "get info" and "open using" and "change all" but then the system wanted to change ALL of my itunes files to the .mp3. This was because I had to rename the file (which I know doesn't do much) Any ideas?

    well, I can't click on the file because it is in an email message and if I click, it opens to the internet page with a QuickTime audio player. I've checked all my quicktime stuff, too. I don't think that's it. All the songs in itunes library are ".m4a" The only way I was able to even get to the "open with" and etc. was to drag the .mp3 file onto the desktop and it wasn't even an mp3 file at that point, it was a weblink. I was able to open in in iTunes but it's not an audio file. Itunes put it in my podcast section with an exclamation point next to it.

  • [RESOLVED] Unable to move dev directory for Apache, keep getting 403

    Hello,
    I'd like to move my default /srv/http directory for my PHP pages to a different location (somewhere in my home directory) for convenience.  This is exclusively for local development.  However, after making the same change in two places, I restarted Apache and keep getting a 403 error.
    Here is my httpd.conf:
    # This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file. It contains the
    # configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
    # See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2> for detailed information.
    # In particular, see
    # <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/directives.html>
    # for a discussion of each configuration directive.
    # Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
    # what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
    # consult the online docs. You have been warned.
    # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
    # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
    # server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin
    # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so 'log/access_log'
    # with ServerRoot set to '/www' will be interpreted by the
    # server as '/www/log/access_log', where as '/log/access_log' will be
    # interpreted as '/log/access_log'.
    # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
    # configuration, error, and log files are kept.
    # Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point
    # ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive
    # at a local disk. If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple

    You're right.  I can't get there.
    I tried to make Apache start up as me (my user), but got an error that said that it cannot start it up like that.  I think I have a possible solution for the given problem.  I'll my user to the http group and then work from /srv/http.
    I'd love to get some feedback if someone has a different approach .  I love to learn from the experience of others .

  • Prefered data storage method for AIR apps?

    So I'm starting on my AIR application journey, in the end I would like to develop applications for Droid.  I'm used to developing for the web and mostly use MySQL, I've been looking at SQLite and XML as data repositories.  I feel that for most of my applications at this point XML files would most likely do the job, but is there a prefered data storage method for AIR applications?
    EDIT:  I've been looking around for a primer on Flash & SQLite interaction if someone could point me in the right direction it would be very thankful.
    Thank you much!

    For document management, I believe simple file/Directory would be sufficient. have files under a file server, with your app do the proper indexing, concurrency etc from that file server folder, which shall properly stores and index the documents.

    4) Advanced Configuration - Multiple Tomcat 4 Instances
    In many circumstances, it is desirable to have a single copy of a Tomcat 4
    binary distribution shared among multiple users on the same server. To make
    this possible, you must configure a CATALINA_BASE environment variable (in
    addition to CATALINA_HOME as described above) that points to a directory
    that is unique to your instance.
    When you do this, Tomcat 4 will calculate all relative references for files in
    the following directories based on the value for CATALINA_BASE instead of
    CATALINA_HOME:
    * conf - Server configuration files (including server.xml)
    * logs - Log and output files
    * shared - For classes and resources that must be shared across all web
    applications
    * webapps - Automatically loaded web applications
    * work - Temporary working directories for web applications
    * temp - Directory used by the JVM for temporary files (java.io.tmpdir)
    If you do not set CATALINA_BASE to an explicit value, it will be initialized
    to the same value as is set for CATALINA_HOME (which means that the same
    directory is used for all relative path resolutions).

  • How can I create a host name site collection when I have a 443 web application already created for App model?

    Hi all,
    I have a 2013 farm set up with the App model
    1 web application for path based site collection using host name
    1 web application with SSL (no host name)
    1 web application for mysite
    My business request is that  I need to migrate SSL enabled 2007 content to this farm and use host name site collections.  I tried to create one more web application for this without any luck (the 443 IIS folder is already used by another web application).
    I thought I bind the previous 443 web application with another IP address should be fine.  Seems like the IIS site is taken (https://server name:443) so it will not let me create one more.  How can I solve this problem so I can create the web application
    to host those host name site collections?  Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Sally

    Hi Trevor,
    Thanks again for your quick reply.  I try the option 2 right after your post.  I use my front end server name for public URL (https://WFEName:443) and it fails again.  The error message is:
    The directory C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\443 is already being used by another IIS Web Site.  Choose a different root directory for your new Web application.
    After reading more, I saw mix Hosted Name Site collection and Path-based site collection aren't recommended.  Unfortunately I already have Path-based site collection created with App model web application
    (the web application without host name) in my farm.  In my Option 2, that web application without host name is used for App routing.  This takes the root folder 443 which will not allow any other web application to use the same name again.
    Does that mean we can't create Host Named Site collection in the same farm?  Is there any configuration I need to check?
    Thanks again.
    Sally
