Apply Retiming Behavior to Effect Source

Hello community!
I'm trying to build a Motion Effect that I can use in FCPX.
The effect should mimic a stop motion feeling. To start off, I would like to apply a Strobe Behavior. (Library>Behaviors>Retiming>Strobe)
This is where I run into my first problem. I assume, that I need to apply the behavior to the Effect Source, but no matter how I try dragging and dropping, hitting the Apply button, and holding down Modifyer keys, the behavior doesn't stick to the Effect Source.
Am I missing a basic conceptual thing here?

OK - I think this will work for you:
You will need to Clone the source.
Add a Strobe filter to the clone and publish the Strobe Rate.
Replicate the Clone.
Publish Source Start Frame
Publish Hold Frames and Hold Frames Randomness and the Random Seed button
How to make it work in FCPX:
Set Strobe Rate to about 10 (to start)
Set Hold Frames to about 10
Set Hold Frames Randomness to 13 or so
You will need to keyframe the Source Start Frame from 0 to some value that will finish the clip by the last frame. So, Keyframe Source Start Frame to 0 at the first frame then go to the last frame (type down arrow then left arrow to back up one frame) and drag the value until the last frame of the clip shows (otherwise the clip will fall short or if you go too far, it will partially loop -- which may be what you want for some clips!)
Play... (seems to me to work very well.)
You may not need Hold Frames if Strobe Rate is enough.

I am trying to use some of the behaviors from the Retiming group in a Motion 5 template. However, I can't apply any of these behaviors to my template.
Strange enough, it once succeeded but I can't figure out how I managed to do this. Any suggestions?

Found the answer myself...I need to use the appropriate FILTER, not the BEHAVIOR!

Applying a patch file to source code

Thats the same even if i rename src to l2, so that l2/at_ethtool.c exists.

No effective source of supply despite valid source in Source List

Hi,
Can somebody help me why I can't assign source of supply in PR when I already have multiple valid vendors with info records maintained on the material? I'm using MPN material to maintain info record. I have checked all my master data with validity dates and they are all valid. Also, I noticed that there are no effective source displaying when I do simulation inside ME01 (Source List). Maybe that is one of the reason why I can't assign source of supply in PR.

If it can't find ANY source and you definitely have FULL info records (I mean manually manitained with ME11 / 12) and you definitely have sources in the source list, then are these entries correct, are the date ranges valid, is the P org correct?
This functionality WILL work if the data is set up correctly but there are lots of small elements of that data that could stop the system from determining a valid source.
Try changing one of the entries in the source list (just the date for instance) just to see if there are any warning messages triggered.

Can I crop an image then apply the Ken Burns effect?

I shot a panoramic still with the iOS6 on my iPhone 4S. I guess because I didn't hold it steady there are white boundries on the top and bottom. I would like to crop these pieces out and then apply the Ken Burns effect.

Crop the image in Preview or iPhoto.

Applying multiple behaviors

Hi,
I just picked up motion today so trying to figure out the basics here. Quick question:
I have an object and I've applied a behavior (fade in and out). Now I'm trying to apply a second behavior (some bouncey thing) during the middle of it. Even once I apply the bounce and play it back, only the fade in and fade out happens.
I'm sure I'm neglecting something super simple and would appreciate any light that is shed. Thanks!

A cannot
affect the events that occur on page B merely by executing
some client-side
javascript (well, they can but you would have to write a
cookie that is
passed to page B, or use javascript to parse a URL variable
from page A's
link, and I'm reasonably confident that GL didn't do that).
Notwithstanding those comments, it's quite possible to have
multiple
behaviors applied to a single page element (e.g., image
swaps, element
show/hides, element property changes, window opens, etc.),
but in the
particular case you are describing, I'm certain there must be
a mistake.

New shape layer auto applies the same layer effects as previous ones

Everytime I draw a new SHAPE layer it auto applies the same layer effects I applied to the first shape I drew in a document. I can’t find anything online about turning this annoying setting off. So for example, if I draw a circle and apply a gradient overlay and a drop shadow then every circle I draw from here on out adds the same effects automatically.

How to apply transform setting to other sources

It's been a while since I've played with after effects and I can't rember how to get the spiral icon by each of my transform settings like position and scale so I can drag the spiral icon to other layers and apply the same position or motion tracking info to a different layer so I don't have to motion track for every layer?

I guess it's alt click on the little clock in the layer. How do I turn it on for every layer?

Applying more than one effect to an image

Hey,
I'm really enjoying using Aperture to bring some life to some photos, but I have a question.
How can I apply different effects to the same part of the picture without having to re-select that part again?
Say I want to select a part of a picture and make it black and white, while the rest of the image stays in colour. Ok, so I select what I need and do this using the B/W effect brush - all good - but now I want to sharpen that exact same selection. Currently, I have to apply a new effect and re-select the part of the image again, but this can bring problems if it's a tricky part to select or has a lot of detail.
Any ideas?

You will want a layers-based image editing app like GIMP, Pixelmator, Photoshop, etc.
IMO all digital photogs need such an app in addition to an images-management app like Aperture.

Apply filters before motion effects?

I've some night time, timelapses in a programme. They're very beautiful, of the northern lights. Unfortunately they are covered in dead pixels. I have Boris Pixel Fixer installed though, so should be no problem! Unfortunately, there is a move applied to each timelapse, and the fixes for the dead pixel seem to apply AFTER the move, so the dead pixels drift away from the points. It's very annoying! Is there a way to reorder the stack of motion effects so the move is applied after filters? It seems like motion, opacity, etc can't be reordered, only user added effects. I could go in to the AE project the timelapse were made in, fix the dead pixels there, render out the timelpases, apply the Lumetri look file and the editors move again... But taht seems like a faff for what should be fixable. Any ideas?

Re-order your motion, opacity with your user added effects yes. Add the 'Transform' effect, but it is not found in the Transform effect drop-down list. The 'Transform' effect is found in the 'Distort' effect drop-down list.
In the effects panel, open Video Effects, then open Distort, then choose Transform.
With Transform you will see the 'fixed position' Motion effects, as well as a few others. Then you will be able to arrange in the stacking order as you wish.

Can I apply and render batch effects in media encoder?

Hi I'm using Adobe premiere cs6.5 and media encoder. I would like to add an unsharpen mask effect to all my clips and render them out in a batch process in media encoder. Is there a way to do this with out physically handling each individual file?

Don't think so in CS6.5.
IN CC2014xx one would apply it to all clips selected/grouped in the Bin as a Master Clip Effect... then send those clips to AME

Can't apply transitions to After Effects comps in Premiere Pro

Hi people, newbie Premiere user here (my boss is trying to convert me from FCS) :-) I downloaded the trial version of CS5 and want to learn as much as I can before my initial 30 days is up. My initial experience has been pleasant, but I've come up against an obsticle I could sure use some help with.
1)     Creating my timeline with serveral clips
2)     Exporting certain clips to After Effects; 'Replace with After Effects composition'
3)     Adding my effects
4)     Back in Premiere Pro my clip is replaced by the comp.
5)     Try to apply a simple cross-dissolve across 'Comp 01/Comp 02'
PROBLEM!
Seems the transition will only snap to the start of the second comp. With clips I can drag & drop the effect to span the clips and get perfect results, but not on an After Effects comp.
6)     In Premiere Pro 'Effect controls' change parameter so that the transition centre is at 'cut'
The result indeed spans the clips, but the effect quality is terrible - decent fade from comp 01 to a sudden dip to black before fade-up on comp 02.
Yes, I understand the 'Layers' concept, but I'm not asking the software to do anything nonsensical, just a simple cross-fade across 2 comps.
I really would appreciate any advice anyone can offer, I'd really like to be converted (mainly because if I AM my boss has promised to buy me a licence when my 30 days are up!) :-)

To expand a bit on Colin's comments, back in the film days, the concept of Handles was easy to grasp, as the pieces of film were on an A and a B Roll, and the editor had to physically overlap them by the desired amount, so that the lab could print with a Dissolve. The same held for the days of A-B Roll digital editing, where the Clips were again physically overlapped on separate Tracks. Then, digital editors were developed that allowed one to edit with the Clips on a single Track, and where Transitions were applied between them. The Handles were necessary still, but were no longer visually obvious.

Any way to apply or modify Illustrator Effects or Graphic Styles in PathItems from a javascript scri

I see in the docs for Illustrator javascripting that "scripts cannot create new graphic styles" (lame, btw), and I can't find any member function or variable in the PathItem class that provides a link to any information about applied effects, graphic styles, etc..
e.g. from a PathItem object I can get the first fill color (in pathItem.fillColor) but I can't seem to find the second one anywhere (fillColor does not return an array). If my PathItem has a dropshadow or a glow effect, or has a graphic style attached to it, I can't seem to find any trace of it, even in the debugger's Data Browser. The class reference docs don't make any reference to any effects or filters at all.
Am I missing something obvious, or is it actually impossible to write a simple script that, say, adds a dropshadow to every selected item (without blowing away the current fill color)?

Yes, Actions is just AI's built-in macro recorder.
What's needed is for an Action to be able to reliably include the running of a script. (That's been broken for three versions now.) That would accomodate a range of other possibilities.

There is a range of things that the Javascript implementation doesn't touch (editing Mesh Points, for just one example). Some of it I can understand, because of the tediousness that would be involved in coding.

CS 5 Premiere Pro cant move after effect source to programm

I made a Premiere Pro Multicam cut
Then I made some light saber effects with after effects.
Now i want to bring this composition back to Premiere.
It is shown in the source screen right.
But if i drack it down or hit the paste key to get it in the movie there is a sign shown that i am not allowed to do this.
This sign only appears when i drag and drop. If I hit paste there is no error code the time line moves but no video ist paste.
The composition has the lenghts of 2 min.
what could this be ?

Multicam is a special situation, so other than a multicam sequence the answer is no. You can nest a sequence inside another one and then replace the entire nested sequence with an AE comp.
I couldn't find a way to make AE recognize Multicam Channels in a Pr Multicam sequence that was dynamically linked. So I think you have to export the Pr Multicam sequence as an intermediate file, then import that file into an AE comp and add the light saber effects. Dynamically link the light saber AE comp into your Pr project and export from Pr as desired.

Time Code Effect Source Monitor and rendered .AVI movie display different timings???

Im seeing a strange error and hope someone might be able to help me out. I am shooting elementary classroom reading lessons for a study by the University of Michigans School of Education. It is important to the study to see what takes place over about a 2hour period of time.
Im shooting with 2 cameras. 1 on the teacher the other on the students. Im shooting on mini DV. The first camera I start about 4min ahead of the second so that when the 1hour tape is filled I can switch the tape in camera 1 while still capturing activity on camera 2.
When I edit the footage I am cutting back and forth between the 2 cameras. One initial shot is of the classroom clock as it ticks from one minute to the next. I later use this footage as a guide when establishing the Time of Day.
When the entire lesson is edited together and cut. I add two transparent video tracks each with the Timecode effect added. The first I synchronize with the classroom clocksetting the Timecode Source to Generate matching the Starting Timecode with the clock footage. I then crop the frames portion so viewers will know the time of day the footage was shot. The other I leave the Timecode Source set as Clip. I use the size and position controls to move the two timers into the upper left of the screen.
When I view the finished video in the Program Monitor everything looks great. When I Export|Movie to an .AVI file the video looks correct but the timers are off. The last frame of the video in the Source Monitor displays 11:28:19 for the clock timer and 02;02;00;23 for the total time timer. But when I view the .AVI the last frame displays 11;03;40 for the clock and 01;37;36;25 for the total time.
So how did I lose 24min between the Source Monitor displays and the rendered .AVI displays?

Yes. After I had the .AVI I ran through the two side-by-side (.avi and the Source Monitor). I have since experimented with some of the Time Code effect settings trying to see if these might have some impact. I have not been able to find any detailed explanation of what each setting controls/does other than an overview (see link below).
I suspect that this has something to do with the size/length of the clip 2+ hours. Is there an optimal length for an individual clip? Should I be splitting this into 2 or 3 shorter sequences and then putting them on a DVD with Encore and setting it up to play them back-to-back?
