  • How to write a VI to measure the difference between two analog inputs (voltage)

I'd like to measure the difference voltage between two analog inputs.
Could someone write me a VI for it, please?
    I'm new with Labview....
    Thanks a lot!!!

On the numeric palette, there is a function called subtract. As the
help for it says, it 'Computes the difference of the inputs.'.
     Since
this is such a simple process, you need to provide some details on why
you can't do this. You can wire just about any data type into the
inputs. Post your code if you need further help.

  • Two analog input tasks

    Hi,
I have a VI with two analog input tasks. One outputs a waveform, from which I determine the frequency of that waveform. Another one just samples the signal once, because all I need is to one value from the signal.
Is there any way to synchronize these tasks? Right now I perform one task then the other because from what I know, you cannot perform two analog input tasks at the same time.
I've attached a VI. Thanks for the help.

duplicate post. Try to to keep the same question in one thread. What is wrong with adding all of you channels to the single task as recomended?

  • How do I acquire two analog inputs simultaneously using a PCI-6052 E series DAQ?

I am using the data to develope transfer functions.

The simple answer is to put the 2 channels of interest in the Channel Control of your VI. Separated them with a comma.
To be honest your question is not very specific. There must be hundereds or thousands of ways to simultaneously acquire 2 analog inputs.
Try looking at the example VIs that ship with the software. Use the Find Examples function of the startup page for LV. Familiarize yourself with the information there and try some likely ones out. At this point you may have some more specific questions to ask.
The descriptions of the VI's are sometimes hard to read, but are usually enough to operate the VI.

  • How can I measure the frequencies of two analog input signals simultaneously?

    Hi
I have two AI signals, and I need to determine the frequencies of those signals. The frequencies range from 1-125Hz. I currently have a VI where I can sample one of the signals for 1 second (sampling at 300 Hz for 300 samples) and determine the frequency.
I need to read two signals at the same time and get both of the frequencies at the same time, but I can only figure out how to read them individually, so I can read one signal, then one second later I read the second one, then I read the first one again, then the sceond one, etc..  How can I read two signals simultaneously?
    Thanks

"at same time", this depends on the hardware, you can do as has been previously stated just set up a 2 channel acquisition and you will get 2 sampled waveforms back.  Most hardware A/D as multiplexed and true simultaneous sampling is not done.  At 125Hz this is not an issue unless you are interested in very small phase changes between the samples.  just keep this in mind if you are expecting samples to be completly synchronized.

  • How to read 2 analog inputs with VISA

Hello everyone! I want to read two analog inputs using VISA serial communication from the arduino.  I'm currently able to read one of the input but how do I read two analog inputs on labview?

    Hi lamela,
again I have to ask: HOW does the string look like? Is it so hard to provide an exact example of your received string???
I think the string is showing one value from the two inputs
Are you sure or are you guessing? How can we tell what you might "think" when you aren't able to provide examples?
You wrote you send values from the Arduino using the command "println(value1, value2)", but now you "think" you only receive ""value1" in LabVIEW?
Get your data communications clear! (And learn to provide meaningful examples!)
    Edit after your edit:
    my code to serial print two inputs: Serial.println(Voltage, Current);
    Even if I print separately: Serial.println(Voltage);
                                                 Serial.println(Current);
The first command is completely different then the second part! In the first you should receive two values in one line, in the 2nd one you receive one value per line: You need to adapt your string parsing to these strings!
Again: send both values in one line. Use the LF as termchar. Separate the values by some separator char like comma. Check the received string for validity. Use some error checking in your VI.

Try this if you have a POT around hook it up to the arduino than use the AnalogInSerial.pde and  load it to your arduino exit out of the arduino platform and  than try my VI see if this helps you.

  • Multiple Analog input channels affecting each other (DAQ_mx)

    Hi, I use NI BNC-2110 / PCIe-6363 + Labview 2012 for my DAQ.
In out task, we acquire two analog samples(these two samples are timed by on board clock, 1000000 rate) from each analog input (AI_0 and AI_4) whenever DAQ receives a digital trigger from PFI0 (rising edge and retriggerable). We will receive 200 triggers and our program will finish until we receive 400 samples on each channel.
The interesting thing is that different analog inputs seem to affect each other. As shown in the figure below, the white curve is analog input AI_0 and the red curve is analog input AI_4.  AI_0 is connected to a triangle input and the curve
below seems right. AI_4 is actually shorted (some result if open) but the acquired data is affected by AI_0.
However, this problem does not occur when only one channel is used in vi (Only the "create channel" and the "read" vi's are changed to be multiple sample and we repeat the experiment with everything else unchanged). So I believe it is not an actual voltage problem before the BNC-2110 board receives the analog input.
Any idea about how to solve this? Thanks in advance! Happy new Year.

    Two Analog Inputs.vi ‏23 KB

I used a wire to connect the BNC core and BNC shell on AI_4 when I shorted it(it is set on floating source mode).
The effect happens even if I have some other kind of input in AI_4(the input is like a stair case but it is always modulated by AI_1). AI_4 always appears modulated by AI_0.
Actually it will not bother me at all if this only happens when AI_0 is open.
I guess the sample clock (1000000) is too high to cause this(Yep, probably it is Ghosting...). When this rate is 1000, it does not happen as I have just tried.

I have photodiode voltage four output signals go into the SCC-68 module. The SCC-68 module is hooked up to the PCI 6224 M DAQ Card.
The signals have almost no noise to them, and I am trying to compare the value (voltage) of two analog inputs to see which value is higher. I want to compare the analog inputs of QPD 1.1 & QPD 1.2 from the VI below.

  • Usb 6009 multiple analog inputs

I am currently attempting to sample two different analog inputs at different sampling rates using a USB 6009.  I keep getting the 'resource reserved' error and am wondering if this is not possible using this DAQ.  Questions:
    1.  Does creating two analog input channels on the device cause this error?
    2.  Is it possible to sample at different rates on channels created in the same task?  (i am trying to 'slow down' the second analog input to display switch points to a customer)
    3.  Running multiple analog inputs using independent timing would be better achieved by switching to a higher end DAQ?  If so which would you recommend?
I have attached my vi.  Thank you in advance for your help.
    I surf therefore I am....

    demo_nolvl.vi ‏27 KB

The DAQ boards only have 1 timing clock for the analog inputs/outputs.  So you can only have 1 sample rate on a given card.  I would recommend just sampling at the highest of the desired rates in a single task.

  • Writing more than 16 analog input channels into a single file

In DasyLAb 10.0, how can I WRITE more than 16 analog input channels (using WRITE DATA block) in one single file? I do not want to use 2 WRITE blocks, as I want all my data samples in one single file.

    Another few questions:
In the merge block, what is the difference between Blockwise mode and Sample mode?
Also, now that I am using the Merge blocks (2 inputs to 1 output) to combine my analog inputs; how would I have to modify my WRITE block so that I can ultimately obtain both my inputs to be written in the same file in seperate columns. Could you please explain the settings I need to make on the WRITE block.
    Thanks!

It appears you didn't actually try anything. Have you done any LabVIEW tutorials? You can autoindex the array of clusters and use Bundle by Name. This assumes, of course, that the number of elements in the two arrays is the same. I would write it for you, but you will learn far more if you try it yourself first. If you don't know what autoindexing is, check the LabVIEW Help and the examples. Don't know what Bundle By Name is? Again, check the LabVIEW Help and the examples.
To learn more about LabVIEW it is recommended that you go through the introduction material, tutorial(s), and other material in the NI Developer Zone's Learning Center which provides links to other materials and other tutorials. There are also several Technical Resources. You can also take the online courses for free.

  • How to synchronize analog input and output from two different USB daq boards

    Hi all,
I have two very differnt USB boards the NI USB 6008, which I am using to acquire the data (Analog Input) and a NI USB 9263, it is an Analog Output only board that I am using to deliver a signal (in this case a square pulse). The reason why I am not using the 6008 Analog Ouputs is because I need to deliver negative voltages and need the full +/-10V range.
Looking at similar posts I am pretty sure that I can't use an external trigger or a shared clock, I also tried to use the synchronization of timed structures but no cigar.
I am including a quick vi that I whipped out showing how the signal jitters due to the lack of synchronization. The AO from the 9263 connects to the AI in the 6008 in this example.

  • How do I acquire multiple signals in the NI cDAQ 9172 using 2 analog input modules?

    Hi everyone,
Is anyone familiar with using the NI cDAQ 9172?  This is my first time using it and I am not sure what exactly I am doing wrong... Alone with a NI 9233 analog input module, it works great.  I can grab my 4 signals from each channel and go.  However, when I add another analog input module to the mix, it gets an error.  It looks like it is reading only one and not the other.  It bombs at one of the DAQ start task and read task.
Basically, the block diagram is just a double of the one 9233 working alone.  Is there something needed for input to make the 9172 working?  Any ideas?
Any help is much appreciated.  Thanks!!

    Hi Jud,
Both threads are correct.  The cDAQ-9172 has a single analog input timing engine, so both of your analog input modules will need to be in a single task.  The other VI you referenced shows one analog input task (with channels added from two modules) as well as an analog output task.  Analog output has a separate timing engine from analog input, so both of those can run in parallel independent tasks.
The beginning of this thread is a good example; a single DAQmx Create Task followed by a DAQmx Create Virtual Channel for channels from each module.  Also, Getting Started with NI-DAQmx will give you the fundamentals for data acquisition, though I don't know how many of their examples use CompactDAQ.

  • How do I use a daq analog input value to output a voltage based on if/then statements?

I am the first one here to start using labview and am not familiar with any of it. I am pressed for time and need simple solutions to accquire two analog signals from turbidimeters in volts and use them to turn an alum pump on or off in order to automate a pilot water treatment plant. If someone could correspond with me via email or instant messaging, I would greatly appreciate the assistance. I recognize the power of labview but have been tinkering with it for a week now and have no luck producing results. I do not know if there is already a VI out there that does this, but that would be a tremendous help. Again, someone to correspond with would be the ideal solution.
    Thank
    s,
    Jack

Basically the job isn't very difficult. All you have to do is use the built-in comparison fucntions to generate a logic level based on the value of the meter output. This boolean value (a green wire on the diagram) can drive the selector input of a case structure. In the case structure you put the code to turn the pump on or off as needed.
