Arabic Charset Convertion Error Using DG4ODBC

I'm facing a serious Problem using oracle 11g DG4ODBC .
the problem is as follows :
i'm using dg4odbc to make a dblink between oracle db and MS SQL server db .
every thing is OK , i can select , update and insert into MS SQL server without any errors giving that it is English characters .
the problem is when i try to insert Arabic characters into MS SQL server table .
it is stored as ?????? .
i tried every thing to make a proper conversion of charsets .
methods i used are :
convert() function and HS_LANGUAGE parameter .
but with no use .
does any one have a clue to solve this problem ????
Information about my test environment :

Hi,
NLS issues can be fairly complex as there are different layers involved with differences at each one.
You have tried various things but we need to work with a consistent setup to try to get this to work.
If you have access to My Oracle Support please review this note -
230239.1 NLS Guide for Generic Connectivity and Gateways
to check that both environments are setup to handle Arabic character sets, especially on the Oracle side.
To check further could you do the following -
- on SQL*Server create a simple table with 1 column, for example testcolumn
- paste the create statement used into the thread
- insert a Latin character - for example A - and an Arabic character so there are 2 rows
- issue the following select using query analyzer or similar -
select testcolumn, ascii(testcolumn) from testable
- and paste the results.
- from Oracle run the following -
select "testcolumn", dump("testcolumn") from "testtable"@dg4odbc_db_link ;
and paste the results.
- paste the gateway init<sid>.ora used so we can see the HS_LANGUAGE setting used.

Mike

• Outlook Sync Error SOLVED - Multi-day repeating appointment cannot be converted for use on the Handheld...

*UPDATE 1/23/2009 07:08 AM* This is a partial fix. I no longer think the Recurrence Range is the culprit. It seems the Time Zones features between Outlook & Palm are not cooperating. This explains why my 12 am events are syncing as 6 pm the day before; I live in GMT-6:00 so it's moving my events ahead by 6 hours. Another event I set for 1 pm in Outlook was changed to 7 am on my Treo. I am going to start over and recreate each event, this time setting the Time Zones, which I hadn't done before. I tested it out and it worked with a single event... let's see how long it lasts. I've also found that using 'No Time' on my Treo is not compatible with Outlook. It's better to set a time with 0 minutes duration.
*UPDATE 1/23/2009 04:11 AM* This is a partial fix. My monthly and yearly problematic recurring events are now showing up at 6 pm the day before on my Treo, though my Outlook calendar is fine. I think this has to do with the Recurrence Range Start/End in Outlook, which is set automatically. If only there were a way to change this...
After a WHOLE LOTTA trial-and-error (like 3 days worth), I think I finally solved my OLERR:14-001 issue!
Problem: Syncing Palm Treo 755p calendar with Outlook 2007
Error Message (simplified):
HotSync session completed with messages on [date] [time]
HotSync session started on [date] [time], and completed in [0] seconds
Outlook Calendar synchronization completed with messages
Duration: [0] seconds
Outlook Calendar
The multi-day repeating appointment titled [event] beginning [date] [time] cannot be converted for use on the Handheld. Please divide the appointment up into single-days and re-synchronize.
OLERR:14-0001
- Desktop overwrite HH Sync
Note: You will likely have several of these ‘Multi-day’ instances in your hotsync log (I had 58). You may want to change Calendar in hotsync to "Desktop overwrites Handheld" after you get this error, to avoid erasing events while you are fixing this issue. Otherwise, you may have to restore them from a backup copy (if you have one) and start over. You can switch back once you’re through.
Solution: First, I tried this Palm KB Article: http://kb.palm.com/SRVS/NUA/launchKB.asp?c=31167. After this didn’t work for me… I did trial-and-error. I believe the problem is that each recurring event, which you set up as ‘All-day’, must be changed to have a duration of 0 minutes from within Outlook. I was able to change some events directly, but I found that some of the records had corrupted, and would just revert. My fool-proof solution was to recreate EVERY problematic event (yes, one-by-one) using the following steps:
Open Outlook
Go to your default calendar, where your events are synced
In the top menu choose ‘View’ > ‘Current View’ > ‘Recurring Appointments’
Open a ‘New Appointment’
Enter subject and other options, such as Categorize, Importance, Time Zones, or Reminder
Make sure starting and ending date & time are the EXACT same
Select ‘Recurrence’ & choose your pattern
I did not choose ‘No end date’ (hence the Palm article), but rather ‘End by:’ and typed in 2031, then pressed tab to auto-generate a suitable end date. I chose 2031 because that is last year my Treo’s calendar goes to. Click OK
Repeat for every event in your error log, until you get a clean "Desktop overwrites Handheld" hotsync (Outlook should be closed when you sync)
Switch Calendar in hotsync back to "Synchronize"
Even though I still get the message OLERR14:001, my syncs are successful. Now I will give my Treo time to see if the issue returns later. Until then, happy Outlook syncing and good luck!

• Converting xml file with arabic content to pdf using FOP

Hello all
I am trying to convert a dynamically generated xml file in which most of the data comes from the oracle database with arabic content, to pdf using FOP. I have used "Windows-1256" encoding for the xml. If i open the xml generated with the internet explorer the arabic content displays properly but the pdf is not generated and the acrobat reader shows the file as corrupted or not supported. Please help me. Its very urgent.
Thanks & Regards

There is no direct support for importing RTF from an XML extract. Perhaps feature 1514 "Mapping formatted XML data into multiline field" will be of some use. This was released in 11.0, I believe.
Essentially you can establish paragraph and certain text formatting like bold and underline when you include the proper token information in the data. I believe this is similar to simple HTML tokens.
Example: <FIELD><P>First paragraph of data.</P><P>New paragraph with <B><U>bold and underline text</U></B>. Rest of paragraph normal.</P></FIELD>
The result is something like this:

First paragraph of data.

New paragraph with bold and underline text. Rest of paragraph normal.

• Tnsping timed out using dg4odbc from Oracle to MYSQL through ODBC

Hi,
I encountered problem when trying to connect from Oracle to MYSQL using dg4odbc, hope you can shed some light
Oracle database is 11.1.0.7 on SUSE Linux 64-bit.
Since the application which runs on MYSQL DB only offers ODBC driver on Windows platform, so I installed the 32-bit ODBC driver (from ServiceNow) on a 32-bit windows server (driver download from http://wiki.service-now.com/index.php?title=ODBC_Driver) .
created system DSN: MYSQLDEV, The DSN connection works fine. I then installed Oracle 11.2.0.1 gateway for ODBC 32-bit on the same windows server, the following configurations were done:
On 32-bit Windows server:

I don't know why only the tnsping from Linux failed, is it due to the 32-bit ODBC uncompatibility with 64-bit oracle server? or my configuration problem?
Of course, when I created the DB link from oracle, the connection failed with

• CONVERTING ERROR MESSAGE TO WARNING MESSAGE

HI GURUS,
CAN ANY ONE GIVE ME IDEA HOW TO CONVERT ERROR MESSAGE TO WARNING MESSAGE IN QM MODULE.WHEN I AM POSTING STOCK FROM QUALITY TO UNRESTRICTED. BECAUSE IAM GETTING ERROR WHEN IAM POSTING STOCK GIVING ERROR TRANSFER POSTING THROUGH QUALITY ONLY. MY ERROR MESSAGE NO IS QA495. I TRIED ALL POSIBILITES. BECAUSE I AM NOT GETTING INSPECTION LOT BUT STOCK IN QUALITY. GIVE ME IDEA.
BHAKTA

Dear BHAKTA,
it's not possible to customize every message in SAP System to warning or error.
It depends on the coding. I have found message QA495 twice in coding, both times it's hard coded in Inlcude MM07MQSS. So it's not possible in standard to change this.
How to find this information:
SE91
-> enter the message
-> button 'display'
-> select the line
-> button 'where-used list' (CRTLSHIFTF3)
-> now you get a list of all programms where the message is used
Now you can check if message type is hard coded or read in customizing.
If you really want this you have to modifiy the coding. But I would not recommed this, as hard coded errors are necessary to make sure that the standard scenarios work correctly.

Sabine

• Warnings/Errors using getClass().newInstance()

I'm getting some warnings & errors using getClass().newInstance() on an object. I can't however see what's wrong.
First a little background, Bar is a class that manages a set of beans, including creation. One of the actions is to create a special copy of bean, the method that does this does some bookkeeping (such that a particular instance of Bar will only work with objects it created).
This class was originally written in 1.4 and I'm now trying to genericify it.
First attempt:
public class Bar<T extends Foo> {
public T getFlaggedBean(T fromBean) throws InstantiationException, IllegalAccessException {
T newBean = fromBean.getClass().newInstance();
// do some stuff
return newBean;
}This yielded: "Type mismatch: cannot convert from capture#1-of ? extends Foo to T"
I can cast:
T newBean = (T) fromBean.getClass().newInstance();Which drops me to a warning a can suppress: "Type safety: Unchecked cast from capture#1-of ? extends Foo to T".
The code runs fine like that, but I'd rather not even have a warning to suppress, I don't like suppress them unless I know that it really is safe.
The code above looks perfectly reasonable to me, I can't figure out why it could be problematic, which leads me to wonder if I'm missing something. We've got a parameter that is of type T or a subclass of it, calling getClass().newInstance() creates an new object such that origobj.getClass() == newobj.getClass() *. Since that class is T or a subclass of it, it should be assignable to T.
The code above when, compiled and subjected to type erasure, effectively produces a method that looks like this:
public Foo getFlaggedBean(Foo fromBean) throws InstantiationException, IllegalAccessException {
Foo newBean = (Foo) fromBean.getClass().newInstance();
// do some stuff
return newBean;
}Note that the cast to Foo is strictly unnecessary.
There's a couple ways I could solve this, such as:
public <S extends T> T getFlaggedBean(Class<S> useClass, S fromBean) throws InstantiationException, IllegalAccessException {
T newBean = useClass.newInstance();
// do some stuff
return newBean;
}I'd rather not change the API, though. Can anybody give me an idea where the initial code, with warnings could be unsafe?
Neil
* Unless you're mucking about with class loaders, but that problem would be an issue with non-generic code too.

Paul,
So does that bit of the JLS mean that my compiler is doing something wrong when it finds the getClass() call, in the code below, to return Class<? extends Foo> rather than Class<? extends T>? If the latter were returned it would compile fine.
public class Bar<T extends Foo> {
public T getFlaggedBean(T fromBean) throws InstantiationException, IllegalAccessException {
T newBean = fromBean.getClass().newInstance(); // doesn't compile
// do some stuff
return newBean;
}I was initially distracted by the "capture#1-of" and thought that was culprit, but as the code below demonstrates calling getInstance() on an instance of a class the compiler notes as "Class<capture#1-of ? extends Foo>" assigns to Foo just fine. Interestingly in this code my IDE says that getClass() is returning "Class<? extends Foo>", both javac and the IDE spat out "Class<capture#1-of ? extends Foo>" when the 1st line of the method had a warning or error. I assume that "Class<? extends Foo>" and "Class<capture#n-of ? extends Foo>" are equivalent and that "capture#n-of" is something fairly internal to the compiler. Can anyone shed light on that?
public class Bar<T extends Foo> {
public Foo getFlaggedBean(T fromBean) throws InstantiationException, IllegalAccessException {
Foo newBean = fromBean.getClass().newInstance(); // this works
// do some stuff
return newBean;
}

• Date format convert error in XML interface based Adobe interactive forms

Hi experts,
I am using XML interface based Adobe interactive form in Web Dynpro ABAP. The form just contains some date fields and numeric fields.
When I test the WD Application, the date fields appear like 0000-00-00 at the first time. And then I set the form input disable, and get the XML from the form, at the same time I get the warning message, 'date format convert error'. By the way, I have set the edit pattern, display pattern and data pattern of the date field to YYYYMMDD, but there seems no effect.
Could you tell me how to set the default date format in date field Or clear the 0000-00-00?
And another question, all of the numeric fields in the form appear like 0.0, how can I set it to empty when the form initialize?
Best Regards,
Guo Guo Qing

Hi Chintan,
Thank you for your reply.
I have tried every possible changes on the Date field, locale, pattern. But still no effect. When the PDF come up in the WDA program, the date field is still '0000-00-00', and then I export the XML date of the form, there is also '0000-00-00' in the interface field.
I can't clear the '0000-00-00' in initializiation event using javascript because if I need to open the form again, if I do this, the value user input could be cleared.
I also try using Javascrip like this
if this.rawValue == "0000-00-00"
{ this.rawValue = ""; }
The code above can't clear the initializiation zeros too.
Have you used the XML interface based online Adobe Forms? I have used XML PDF forms for output before, that's perfect. But the input forms seems so strange.

• Error using XMLType.transform() parammap argument

Hello;
I've hit a snag trying to pass top-level XSLT parameter via XMLType.transform's parammap argument.
Whenever I run the code sample at the end of this message on 9.2.0.1.0, I get the following error:
ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [KGHAL02], [0x0], [], [], [], [], [], []
This error does not occur if you remove the 'name=value' parammap value.
Any ideas?
Brian.
set serveroutput on
declare
stylesheet xmltype;
result xmltype;
xmldoc xmltype;
begin
stylesheet := XMLType(
'
<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0"
xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"
>
<xsl:param name="name"/>
<xsl:output
method="xml"
/>
<xsl:template match="hello" >
<xsl:value-of select="text()"/>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>'
xmldoc := XMLType('<hello>world </hello>');
result := xmldoc.transform(stylesheet,'name=value');
dbms_output.put_line(result.getStringVal());
end;
/

I've worked around this bug successfully by using dbms_xslprocessor package directly - but yuck. The dbms_xslprocessor and related packages is pretty messy to work with.
I also ran into problems implementing the workaround as dbms_xmldom.getDocumentElement could not find the root element on the resulting DOMDocumentFragment (converted appropriately using dbms_xmldom.makeDocument - sigh). I had to write the fragment (converted to a node first using dbms_xmldom.makeNode - heavy sigh) to a clob (dbms_xmldom.writeToClob), and then reload it using dbms_xmldom.newDOMDocument). Not to mention having to remember to freeXXX all the things I had to create.
Gross... 4 times the code with lots more opportunities for bugs & leaks.
Brian.

• Convert error from 2003 word and excel to pdf.

Have Acrobat 8 Pro with vista business. Can no longer convert 2003 word or excel files to pdf format. Get a convert error, please corect problem. Other file formats work file. Am current on updates. Any ideas?

So what you are saying
On the server we have to install LiveCycle and MS Office. LiveCycle will have some API exposed that will take Word or Excel as inut parameter. Then LiveCycle will use MS Office internally to convert the office document into PDF.
Do you happen to know the memory footprints this procees will have?
Also how much does LiveCycle cost?

• Can an Oracle VM be converted for use in VMWare or VirtualBox?

Does anyone know how to convert / export an Oracle VM for use in VMware Server or in VirtualBox? I've successfully converted VMware images to OVM and VirtualBox images to OVM, but I've not been able to figure out how to get an Oracle VM to convert for use in VMWare or in VirtualBox.

The ovs-agent will recognize any strorage device on your VM server which:
a) is unused and free of any partition, so basically a blank drive
b) the drive must be recognized by the multipath daemon, so it must be present under /dev/mapper
So basically, you can't throw in a big drive, partition it, install OVM on it and hope to use the remaining space for your storage pool, you will need the system to recognize at least two independent drives - how ever you going to achieve that is up to you, but the most easy way is to have indeed at least two separate drives installed.

I have no idea what this means, or whether it is a problem. Does anyone know what this is?
Thanks.

I see the same thing and have done for some time. The actual file is being saved back. etc. So, in that respect both Lr and Ps are working fine. IOW, ignore it.
