    Trying to create an event that will send an email with OEM but Im getting this message
    Event test "Archive Full (%)" failed: ora-28009: connection to sys should be as sysdba or sysoper in the event viewer.
    Im not sure what this refers to though - to connect to Management Server it has to be sysman user. What "connection" is this referring to ???
    Oracle 9.2.0.5.0 (due to migrate to 10g at years end hurrah!)
    Windows XP (now, but AIX once in production)

    OK thanks for that. I went ahead and did this:
    Configuration
    Manage Administrators
    Selected SYSMAN
    Preferred Credentials
    Selected target database and erased everything from the Database Credentials fields (where previously we had SYS/AS SYSDBA etc. )
    I am getting the same darn error as before.
    Anyway, the OEM help for this screen says
    Role Select the role from the pull-down list. You need to login with the SYSDBA or SYSOPER role to start up or shut down a database.
    Still stuck on this. I dont properly understand the error itself - it is telling me that the connection to sys should be as sysdba - and I am connecting as sysdba. ... . not sure what else I can do apart from try and write a script and forget this altogether.
    Thanks
    DA
    Also, in the Event Viewer, according the documentation, there is an "advice" tab. I see no such tab. :(
    When I try to create an event without any information supplied to the fields for SYSMAN Preferred Credentials, I get this in Event Viewer:
    "Failed - ora-0:normal , successful completion."
    Now I am really confused - a "failed, normal completion" ??

  • Archive log mode - ORA-16014

    Hi all,
    I have a development database, oracle 10g R2 (10.2.0.1.0) on OEL 4 environment.
    I had set the database in archivelog mode using this commands.
    ALTER SYSTEM SET log_archive_start=TRUE SCOPE=spfile;
    ALTER SYSTEM SET log_archive_dest_1='location=/arch/' SCOPE=spfile;
    ALTER SYSTEM SET log_archive_format='arch_%r_%t_%s.arc' SCOPE=spfile;
    SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE;
    STARTUP MOUNT;
    ARCHIVE LOG START;
    ALTER DATABASE ARCHIVELOG;
    ALTER DATABASE OPEN;
    alter system switch logfile;
    but, it is not archiving the redologs. i have seen the following ora-error messages on my alert log file.

    Hi chinar,
    I have changed the ownership of the /arch mountpoint to oracle user. now the archs are generating.
    now i want to edit the 'pfile' with arch destination details.
    can i create the pfile using the spfile or should i do manually.
    thanks very much chinar.
    Edited by: 785092 on Feb 4, 2011 9:59 PMIf you use(started database with ) pfile then you need manually edit pfile and change LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1 parameter else just use ALTER SYSTEM SET LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1='location=....'

    Hi

    It seeems to be having problems with archive logs that have just been generated while it's doing the backup I think??

    well, your question was not clear, though, what I understand is, you want to move your DB from archivelog mode to NOARCHIVELOG mode, right?
    First of all, check whether do you have sufficient space to archiving on your hard-disk.
    Secondly, try the following, alter system archive log all;
    also, give the steps that you are implementing or implemented to switch from ARCHIVELOG TO NOARCHIVELOG.

  • ORA-16145: archival for thread# 1 sequence# 1424 in progress

    Dear All,
    I am configuring data guard between primary and DR databases. After giving "recover standby database" command it is display following error.
    SQL> recover standby database;
    ORA-00279: change 93766011 generated at 02/22/2013 00:30:05 needed for thread 1

    ORA-16145: archival for thread# 1 sequence# 1424 in progress
    This is the already applied log file sequence:
    SQL> select max(sequence#) from v$archived_log where applied='YES';
    MAX(SEQUENCE#)
    1423
    I have checked archive log path and found frequently copying archive logs from sequence# 1424 and later to the physical path.
    I think this is the reason for "ORA-16145: archival for thread# 1 sequence# 1424 in progress" error.
    Please anyone advice why this continuous copying same archive logs from primary to DR.
    Thank you in advance.

    and found frequently copying archive logs from sequence# 1424 and later to the physical pathDo you mean that Oracle is automatically frequently copying the same archivelogs ? Which sequences -- e.g. does it start at 1424 and continue to 1430 and then restarts at 1424 again , running in a loop ?
    Oracle is not known to do that.
    OR do you have a background / cron / scripted job that copies the archivelogs --- and is looping ?

  • Archived log application to a cold backup fails with ora-00328

    I am testing backup and recovery scenario as mentioned in Metalink Doc id:69468.1 where a cold backup of one production server is restored on a separate machine. Hi Nicolas,
    I have no luck and the error still persists.
    I have set the "export ORACLE_SID=HCM" from root user and oracle user too.
    I guess, I have already loaded database when I ran the "cd /opt/oracle/psft/vm
    ./oraclevm-template.sh"
    The outcome of the above script as similar as below:

    Thanks in Advance,
    Sukanta Paul.

    Hi Sukanta,
    I didn't really understand what the problem is...
    Let me explain, hope it will be clear.
    You created a standby control file, and backed up the database (it doesn't matter in which order). Now, you have a standby database that is ready to apply logs. It will be able to apply log forever, until we will stop it.
    The messages you see say the following:
    ORA-00279: change 51667831821 generated at 07/02/2009 01:19:40 needed for thread 1 {color:blue} - this says that the recovery process is now at scn 51667831821 {color}
    ORA-00289: suggestion : /nodal-archive/archive/1_55121_652209172.arc {color:blue} - the information needed for the recover is in this file (this is only the default name, you can choose other name if the file is called differently) {color}
    ORA-00280: change 51667831821 for thread 1 is in sequence #55121 {color:blue} - same here, the needed archive is sequence 55121 {color}
    ORA-00278: log file '/nodal-archive/archive/1_55120_652209172.arc' no longer needed for this recovery {color:blue} - this message is after Oracle has applied the log, and it means that this log is no longer needed {color}
    Now it will wait for the next log. Again, this process is endless, this is how it is made to allow the standby database to be always synched with the primary.

    Dear Experts,
    We noticed the error "ORA-15001: diskgroup "FRA" does not exist or is not mounted" on the 2nd node of our 4 nodes RAC database system.
    During this weekend, we moved our system to a new data center. After the move was done, we were able to bring up the 4 instances around 3:00 AM. However, 4 hours later (7:00 AM), OEM Grid control alerted us with "archival error" on the 2nd instance. From our investigating, we saw the FRA was dismounted. Below is the oracle alert log file (For secuirty reson, the SID is modified):

    ORA-15001: diskgroup "FRA" does not exist or is not mounted
    ORA-15001: diskgroup "FRA" does not exist or is not mounted It is my understanding, that Oracle will automatically mount the diskgroups on the ASM when the instances are started. In our case, all other diskgroups are started OK but not the FRA diskgroup. Is this a bug with FRA where FRA can not be automatically started up after recycling the instance? Did anyone experience the same situation? Can someone advice?
    Thanks!

  • 10g standard edition, create a manual standby without ORA-279 and ORA-308.

    Hi,
    I have a 10 g database 10g r2 on linux rhel 5.2. I've create a standby database from an rman backup on another server (same name, same path....).
    every 10 minutes , i switch log on primary database and rsync them to the stanby path on stanby server.
    every 10 minutes, i apply the new received archive to the standby database with this script :
    sqlplus /nolog
    connect / as sysdba
    recover database until cancel using backup controlfile;
    AUTO
    recover database until cancel using backup controlfile;
    CANCEL
    exit
    this script gives some ORA errors like this :
    2010/03/31 Wed 11:30:03 Media Recovery Log /v4/db/oradata/LFEX/archives/1_61705_640182036.dbf
    2010/03/31 Wed 11:30:03 ORA-308 signalled during: ALTER DATABASE RECOVER CONTINUE DEFAULT ...
    2010/03/31 Wed 11:30:04 ORA-279 signalled during: ALTER DATABASE RECOVER database until cancel using backup controlfile ...
    2010/03/31 Wed 11:40:01 ORA-279 signalled during: ALTER DATABASE RECOVER database until cancel using backup controlfile ...
    I understand this error, the script is searching the next archive, which doesn't exist at this time, that's OK.
    To avoid to have this error, i believe that i can do something like that:
    sqlplus /nolog
    connect / as sysdba
    recover database until time 'sysdate-1/(24*4)' using backup controlfile;
    AUTO
    exit
    i'm searching to replay the archive and stop 15 minutes before sysdate, Is it possible?
    when i try this, i have this message :
    SQL> recover database until time 'sysdate-1/(24*4)' using backup controlfile;
    ORA-01841: L'année (complète) doit être comprise entre -4713 et +9999 et être
    différente de 0.
    I'm trying to change nls_date_format, nls_lang without any success.
    thx.
    Antoine.

    i found a script to do an automatic recover script like this :
    recover database until time '2010-04-01:16:49:05' using backup controlfile;
    ORA-00279: changement 2456430208 généré à 04/01/2010 16:31:01 requis pour thread 1
    ORA-00289: suggestion : /v4/db/oradata/LFEX/archives/1_61853_640182036.dbf
    ORA-00280: le changement 2456430208 pour le thread 1 se trouve au no de séquence 61853
    ORA-00279: changement 2456432030 généré à 04/01/2010 16:39:01 requis pour thread 1
    ORA-00289: suggestion : /v4/db/oradata/LFEX/archives/1_61854_640182036.dbf
    ORA-00280: le changement 2456432030 pour le thread 1 se trouve au no de séquence 61854
    ORA-00278: le fichier journal
    '/v4/db/oradata/LFEX/archives/1_61853_640182036.dbf' n'est plus nécessaire pour cette récupération
    So i continue to have some error like ORA-278.... but no more ORA-308 error, it's better, because ORA-278 279 and 280 are only information messages, so i can ignore it in alert.log files.
    Only ORA-308 in this case interresting me, to see if an archive is really missing.
    thx.
    PS : the script standby_recover generate the recover.sql script :
    [dblegu@dbback SQL]$ cat $PGLEGU/SQL/standby_recover.sql
    connect sys/password as sysdba
    set trimspool on linesize 200 head off feedback off sqlprompt "--" verify off
    spool &1/SQL/recover.sql
    select 'connect sys/password as sysdba'||chr(10)||
    'set autorecovery on'||chr(10)||
    'recover database until time '''||
    to_char(sysdate - 1/(24*4),'YYYY-MM-DD:HH24:MI:SS')||''' using backup controlfile;'||chr(10)||
    'exit;' from dual;
    spool off
    exit
    the resul in recover.sql is :
    connect sys/password as sysdba
    set autorecovery on
    recover database until time '2010-04-01:16:49:05' using backup controlfile;
    exit;
    i found this on site : http://erkanorclog.blogspot.com/2007/08/batch-scripts-to-set-up-asyncronous.html.

  • MANAGED RECOVERY AT STANDBY DATABASE REQURING OLD ARCHIVELOGS ORA-00308

    Oracle 9.2.0.4
    HP-UX 11.11i
    The database in Archivelog mode, single standby database in managed recovery
    mode.
    keeping standby in sync with manual applying the ARCHIVELOG from primary to
    standby database.
    primary database was 3 REDO log members of 100 MB with 1 member each.
    what i did, 1 drop and re-create the INACTIVE REDO group for all three, and
    make them
    5 REDO logs of 200 MB with 1 member each,
    then in order to keep fresh copy of primary database onto standby database, i
    send the cold backup after 15 days (last week) with standby controlfile.
    now, with that standby controlfile and the database, i can mount the database
    but while to open the database, receives messages as , it requiring the
    ARCHIVELOGS generated log time ago.
    changes the REDO groups from 3 to 5 and size 100 to 200 MB at INACTIVE state
