Archivelogs not transforing to standby
Hi,
In dataguard parameter are configured in
primary database to transfer archivelogs like log_archive_dest_2='service=to_orcl
and standby_file_management=auto, and created directory structure also.
standby database side: standby_archive_dest='/u01/app/oracle/arch/orcl'
Listener is working and tnsnames also working.
But archivelogs are not transforming from primary to standby.
can you please let me know why it is like this.
thanks a lot

log_archive_dest_state_2=enable and log_archive_dest_2='service=to_orcl'
like this parameters set.Couple of points must be looked into when there is issue of archive logs are not shipped to standby :
1.It should be :
log_archive_dest_2 = SERVICE=MARKTEST LGWR ASYNC
VALID_FOR=(ONLINE_LOGFILES,PRIMARY_ROLE)
2.Are you able to conn sys/pwd@stby as sysdba If yes then it means there is no connectivity issue; if no then; it is the reason thats why logs are not being shipped to standby site. It is due to issue with password file or something issue with service name. Just drop and create a new/freshpassword file with the same password on both primary and standby.
3.Check whether your OS user is part of ORA_DBA group.

ORA-16191: Primary log shipping client not logged on standby.
Hi,
Please help me in the following scenario. I have two nodes ASM1 & ASM2 with RHEL4 U5 OS. On node ASM1 there is database ORCL using ASM diskgroups DATA & RECOVER and archive location is on '+RECOVER/orcl/'. On ASM2 node, I have to configure STDBYORCL (standby) database using ASM. I have taken the copy of database ORCL via RMAN, as per maximum availability architecture.
Then I have ftp'd all to ASM2 and put them on FS /u01/oradata. Have made all necessary changes in primary and standby database pfile and then perform the duplicate database for standby using RMAN in order to put the db files in desired diskgroups. I have mounted the standby database but unfortunately, log transport service is not working and archives are not getting shipped to standby host.
Here are all configuration details.

Apply all ArchiveLogs manually to the Standby Database
Hi,
we can create a Physical Standby Database on Standard Edition, but we have to transfer and apply all ArchiveLogs manually to the Standby Database. How can we do this ?
many thanksThank you, but I opened a SR and asked :
1-can we install DATAGUARD (Primary and Standby) with STANDARD edition ?
many thanks.
they answered :
DataGuard is not available with Standard Edition. You need to have the Enterprise Edition in
stalled on the Primary and Standby Host. The Standard Edition only provides basi
c Standby Database without Log Transport and Log Apply Services. So you can create a Physical Standby Database on Standard Edition, but you have to transfer and apply all ArchiveLogs manually to the Standby Database.
that's why I asked you the question.
What is the exact synatx for recover database using backup control file please ?
Thanks again. -
RAC Archivelogs not Switching on Closed Threads with Dataguard.
I have a 4 node Cluster with each database running 1 instance.
My experience is when RMAN backs up the Archivelogs it rolls the Closed threads over ie switchs Archivelogs and backs them up.
After I put one of my production databases ( 10.2.0.2 ) in Dataguard it changed, and only the Open thread switches logs.
It has caused problems with duplicating the database to test.
I went through support and Oracle said its a bug fixed in a higher version so Upgrade. ( Management not excited to do so )
The work around is to open the idle instances and immediately close them before an application thread tries to connect.
I just put a second database in dataguard ... a related application ... which is using the same Oracle home and it is switching all threads on the ArchiveLog backup.
The only difference is that the original has been open recovered ( flashbacked) and closed and the second has not but the Standby was recreated after wards ( I have put the standby in flashback now )
Has anyone else observed this behaviour.If the Standby is in Maximum Availability and the primary has one or more Closed Threads, the Standby doesn't need the closed threads.
If you are doing Backups to create another duplicate, I suggest that you add a forced Switch or Archive Log for the closed threads in your backup script.

Error: ORA-00439: feature not enabled: Managed Standby
Hi there, after I turned on auto archiving in the init.ora file (altered archivelog) and started up the DB, I get the error "ORA-00439: feature not enabled: Managed Standby" while starting up the instance. Under the Alert log, it said License_max_session = 0 and license_sessions_warning = 0. Is that mean I need licenses in order to turn Auto archiving on? how?
PS: I can "alter system archive log start to '...';" though when the instance is open.
Thanks,
-HarryI couldn't agree more with Kin..
Are you running Enterprise Edition? If not, Managed Recovery Mode, is available only with the Enterprise Edition of 8.1.x. This
may be why you are getting this error. Also, check v$option and see what 'Managed Standby' option shows, TRUE or FALSE. If
FALSE and you are running Enterprise Edition, then you may want to post to the Microsoft forum regarding getting this installed.
It would also help to know what your 'compatibility' parameter is set to.
I have read numerous...views..
some syntoms:
- enabling my database mode to archivelog
However when you take out the parameter
log_archive_dest_1 parameter and added the old log_archive_dest paremeter then database opened fine.
also if you remove the word location and the
character =
it might just work.
hope this helps

Redo log files are not applying to standby database
Hi everyone!!
I have created standby database on same server ( windows XP) and using oracle 11g . I want to synchronize my standby database with primary database . So I tried to apply redo logs from primary to standby database as follow .
My standby database is open and Primary database is not started (instance not started) because only one database can run in Exclusive Mode as DB_NAME is same for both database. I run the following command on the standby database.
SQL> ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE DISCONNECT FROM SESSION;
It returns "Database altered" . But when I checked the last archive log on primary database, its sequence is 189 while on standby database it is 177. That mean archived redo logs are not applied on standby database.
The tnsnames.ora file contains entry for both service primary & standby database and same service has been used to transmit and receive redo logs.
1. How to resolve this issue ?
2.Is it compulsory to have Primary database open ?
3. I have created standby control file by using command
SQL> ALTER DATABASE CREATE STANDBY CONTROLFILE AS ‘D:\APP\ORACLE\ORADATA\TESTCAT\CONTROLFILE\CONTROL_STAND1.CTL‘;
So database name in the standby control file is same as primary database name (PRIM). And hence init.ora file of standby database also contains DB_NAME = 'PRIM' parameter. I can't change it because it returns error of mismatch database name on startup. Should I have different database name for both or existing one is correct ?
Can anybody help me to come out from this stuck ?
Thanks & Regards
Tushar LapaniThank you Girish. It solved my redo apply problem. I set log_archive_dest parameter again and then I checked archive redo log sequence number. It was same for both primary and standby database. But still table on standby database is not being refresh.
I did following scenario.
1. Inserted 200000 rows in emp table of Scott user on Primary database and commit changes.
2. Then I synchronized standby database by using Alter database command. And I also verify that archive log sequence number is same for both database. It mean archived logs from primary database has been applied to standby database.
3. But when I count number of rows in emp table of scott user on standby database, it returns only 14 rows even of redo log has been applied.
So my question is why changes made to primary database is not reflected on standby database although redo logs has been applied ?
Thanks -
Different archivelog destination on physical standby database
Hi,
Can I set different archivelog destination for physical standby database in duplicate command? (Due to space problem ) How can I do it?
For ex. on primary site archivelogs reside in /u01/ORCL/archivelog, and I want on phy. standby side archive dest. under /u08/ORCL/archivelog.Even you can give LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1 in standby init file, So whenever you start standby/auxiliary instance automatically the dest_1 will refer to /u08/orcl(whereever you want). So you can have archive destination any where but should have proper permissions and location should be available.
If you want to assign one by one destinations, then still you can use "ALTERNATE" clause so that when the primary location unavailable or unable to archive, then of course it writes into alternate location you have specified from pfile.
You can check this

Airport does not reconnect after standby...
Is anyone having issues w/ wireless not reconnecting after standby? In order to resolve the problem, I have to turn airport off then back on. Most of the time I can get back on using on/off method, but seldomly I have to reboot. This is my config:
SSID is not broadcasted, using capital letters and numbers for SSID Name.
WPA TKIP set for router encryption. WPA Personal selected on Airport.
I don't seem to have this problem on my Macbook running Leopard, so I'm pretty sure it's hardware/driver related to my Macbook Pro. I have to keep tabs on this, but I almost think this problem does not appear when a network SSID is broadcasted and/or unecrypted. It could be my imagination but not sure.
Any ideas or same issues out there?I always have the same problem; I assume it has something to do with the fact that I regularly switch my cable modem to "standby" when done surfing the internet. Seemingly Airport loses the signal (or whatever) because the modem isn't feeding a signal being in standby mode? When I turn the modem back on, I have to turn Airport back on as well. So far, I've just felt it to be a small inconvenience.

Purging archivelogs on Primary and Standby
Hi all,
11.2.0.1
Aix 6.1
I am monitoring space usage in our FRA for both DG primary and standby. I want to purge all archivelogs once they have been applied to standby. What is the use of it anyway?
I checked google and I found this procedure, kindly correct if this is wrong?
At Primary:
=========
RMAN
CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON STANDBY;
At Standby:
========
RMAN
CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO NONE;
Where do I issue the command DELETE NOPROMPT OBSOLETE ARCHIVELOGS?
Thanks a lot,
zxyWhich tool in oracle dear maintains the FRA/achivelogs? is it RMAN or Dataguard. If it maintains
them auto, why is that I still have lots of archivelog at PRIMARY and STANDBY?

Iphone does not ring in standby mode
my father has an iphone 3G,
and it will not ring in standby mode.
it worked perfectly when he was on 2.0,
but when he upgraded to 2.1 it started having some problems.
now he has 2.2.1 and the only problem it has is it will not ring while in standby.
it will only ring when unlocked.
is anyone else having this issue,
and does anyone have any way to fix it?
i dont know if it is irrelevant or not,
but he is on windows XP.I was having the same problem and did a couple of "restores" and the issue kept coming back, after several calls and not much help I decided to delete an application that I had downloaded which was "Ski jump lite" and the problem has gone away. It worked fine on the previous version of apple software.
