Archiving to SAP Content Server/MaxDB: TCP/IP errors when deleting in paral
Dear experts.
We are struggling to get the optimal setup for archiving to SAP Content Server using MaxDB. After running one or more archiving jobs for a few hours we suddenly loose connection to the Content Server, and we need to restart the content server before continueing. We long thought it was the logspace which was running full, but this was eliminated. Now it seems as the error occurs when 4 or more deletions jobs is running in parallel. (Write->Store->Delete).
The run-times on a typical archiving job for about 3 GB data would be W: 3000sec S:40sec D: 12000sec. In general the delete job takes about 3 times the write-job.
Everything seems fine until one suddenly get the TCP/IP error after some heavy archiving jobs.
Have anyone experienced anything like this, and are there any good ideas on how to avoid this?
Thank you very much for your inputs on this.We were running 3 parallell delete jobs yesterday, and it all went fine until I started the 4th job, then all jobs stopped immediately. The KNLDIAG file at the exact time of the problem looks like this:

We have not yet looked at the tips regarding the windows errors, but will do that when we get the possibilty. In the mean time; do you read anything from this above? It looks like when several jobs are crashing at the same time there is one which has the "Time limit exceeded" and the rest TCP/IP error.
Could it possibly be the MAXUSERSESSIONS parameter, or are you still leaning towards something outside the database? -
Content Server: External NAS, DB without MS Domain?
Is it possible to configure Content Server for using external NAS and DB without put Content Server in a MS Domain?
The TCS must be attached to a domain and the same goes for the external storage location, if not you won't be able to use the external storage option. According the admin guide it recommends a NAS that is built on Windows Storage server and the protocol used is Microsoft SMB. TCS Admin Guide has details on setting up external storage.

Store images to local disk without content server
Hello
I want to setup a content repository to store content (images & docs) to file system. I had a look in transaction oac0 and tried testing a few configurations but no luck. This is only for a temporary\interim solution. Is there a way to set this up without a Content Server being installed?
Is this supported?
Regards,
DaveDear Dave,
I think the best way for this scenario would be to define a data carrier in transaction DC20. For this data carrier you can for exmaple maintain a network path where the originals are stored.
In CV01N or CV02N you can then add the original and just enter the data carrier and the filename. To access the file in the network path you must not check it in. Till the file is checked out the system will always try to access the file in its original directory without needing any content server.

Lauch archiver for content server not working
Hello All,
we have running content server 11gr1 on one box and need to migrate all its strunture and content to newly installed box. (same db + app version is installed here)
for 'meta data migration" I have done it through 'Content Migration Utility’.
Now I have to 'migrate content using archiver'
when I logged into console
Go to ‘Administration ->Admin Applets’. Then click on ‘Archiver’
getting below error:

With the bin directory (under cs), you shoud see custom, classes, config, etc. directories.

You need to export your data on the source server and then do the import on the target server.
You could have a look on the documentation : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/doc.1111/e10792/c06_migration.htm

Migration of SAP DMS documents from RFC Archive to SAP HTTP Content Server
Can anyone verify the correct OSS for the migration of documents from an RFC Archive repository (non SAP) in SAP DMS to a SAP Content Server HTTP Repository. Most of the OSS notes seem to indicate HTTP to HTTP migrations or based storage category migrations.
Which is the most suitable for this?
Edited by: Athol Hill on Oct 30, 2009 2:35 PMDear Athol,
If you want to move the originals from an archive or vault to a Content
Server, please use the DMS_KPRO_CONVERT and DMS_KPRO_CONVERT2 report I
would kindly ask you to see teh documentation on DMS_KPRO_CONVERT report
in transaction SE38, which explains the whole process and gives
necessary information.
This conversion program offers two possibilites:
- Complete migration:
The meta data of the document info record and the checked-in original
application files are migrated together. The checked-in original
application files are transported into the storage catgories.
- Step-by-step migration:
In the first step meta data is migrated. The original application files
remain in the old storage data. The migration of original application
files starts after you have processed the files with the integrated
viewer and checked them into a secure storage area.

Archiving DMS documents (DIR) into the content server
Hi Gurus
Please tell me the basic configuration for archiving the DMS documents. it is asking me to maintain the following table entries (TOAOM, TOAAR, TOACO and TOADV).
the requirement is to archive the DIR in to content repository and the procedure how to retrive it
JaiDear Jai,
to set up a Content Server please remember the following steps:
1) Content Server sizing with the hardware specification - Functional Consultant.
Content server sizing has to be done by functional consultant based on clients requirement related to different application files and their sizes for approx 1 year and based on this it has to be estimated to next 5 years if requried.
2) Preparing the Server - Basis
the content server sizing done based on inputs has to be given to basis for checking the hardware specification, server size and also the platform on which content server will be installed (Unix,Windows etc).
3) Creating Content Repositories - Functional Consultant with information of the server details from the Basis guy.
once content server is installed, it has to be configured by creating content repositories and categories by functional consultant with the help of Basis.
4) Creating Storage Category: Functional Consultant.
must be done by functional consultant with the help of Basis.
5) Configuring KPRO - Functional Consultant.
once content server is up, KPRO functionality also will start working but to direct files to content server instead of Sap Database, configuration in backend has to be done by Functional Consultant.
Best regards,

Content Server / Content Repository / Archive Link and co.
Hi,
i have installed a content server on an external Windows 2003 Server Plattform using MAXDB. The Server is now running and working properly. The test of the content repositories were positive too. Now im a bit confused about all the actions which are required to make a content rep known to SAP System via Archive Link. Is it correct to start the content server service in the SCIF transaction? Do i need to perform the Archive Link Workflow and Costumizing wizard. Which tables have to be altered?
I would be very greatful if anyone could tell me the steps which need to be done in order to succeed.
Thanks in advance ChristianHi,
Is it correct to start the content server service in the SCIF transaction?
Not required
the actions which are required to make a content rep known to SAP System via Archive Link.
Create a content repository in OAC0 using document area Archivelink and storage type HTTP Content Server.
To use full functionality of Archlink, other set of Archivelink configurations required one of them e.g.OAC3 to use this repository to be used by business objects.

Diff. between content server and archive server(SARA on content server)
I am very interested about difference between content server and archive server. Is there content server supplied by SAP and archive server by third party producers or something else?
If so dditionally what needs to be done to archive data (via Sara) on content server. I did it on sap R/3 4.0 on an archive server. Is it huge difference to do it on 4.7x2 on content server?Hey,
The content server is used to save documents,
and SARA (and other third party producers) are used to archive old data.
For example:
You should use Content server - When you need to save un-structured data about worker (e.g: pictures, documents and etc) .
You should use SARA (and other third parties) - When you need to move to archive old
worker which have left your organization before 5 or more years (there for they are not relevant for you)
Here is some more information about Content server
from help.sap.com:
"Therefore, besides the SAP database, an external content server is always available in every SAP system installation. In this way, the necessary technical infrastructure is provided for all document-centric applications and business scenarios that do not require a long-term archiving solution"
Here is some more information about SARA and archiving
from help.sap.com:
"Data Archiving removes from the database application data from closed business transactions that are no longer relevant for the operational business. The archived data is stored in archive files that can be accessed by the system in read-only mode."

Using DMS Content server for Archiving HR documents
Hi SAP Gurus,
with the details gathered from the forum we could suggest the client to go for Archiving there Documents for storing there HR related Documents, like Resumes, salary hike litters, leaves etc....
but as we do have DMS here and intending to get a Content server for DMS, can we use the same content server for archiving the HR documents also,
or the other way round if we go a Big archiving server, can we store DMS documents there using it as Content Server,
Thanks and Regards,
Priya SYes, you can use the content server. Just create an ArchiveLink Repository on the server and you can use it for HR.

Using a single Content server for DMS and also for Archive link documents
Hi,
We have Planned for a single content server for managing the documents in DMS, parallelly as DMS Standard SAP objects are not available for all SAP transactions, i have proposed for making use of SAP Archivelink funtionality to maintain the documentations where Std SAP DMS does not provide a Solution.
so here the question is
can a single content server be used as a content repository for Both DMS and archivelink,
can any one having done this pls state if it is possible to create different or Many Content repositories for DMS, Archive link in the same server,
is this a virtual creation or can we assign each repository a specific storage space which it should not exceed.
Thanks and regards
SathishHi sathish,
-- Through the ArchiveLink docuemnt Management interface, an SAP sytem can use various content servers as storage media. similarly, one contnent server can be used by multiple SAP systems.
-- A Content server always has a single database assigned to it. A database can therefore be used by only one content server.
-- A databse is split into as many repositories as necessary. The design of the repository is mapped in the SAP system.A repository contains documents.
Depending on your requirements,(if u have limited documents or with low requirements) you can use the same content server for both DMS and Archivelink.
The number of documents stored on the content server is limited only by the size of the database.
Its better to have an external content server for archiving purpose, if your database size is increasing. Since the archiving systems storage is not dependent on the database.
U can also refer to the below thread :

hope this helps....

Archive Repository - Content Server or Root File System?
Hi All,
We are in the process of evaluating a storage solution for archiving and I would like to hear your experiences and recommendations. I've ruled out 3rd-party solutions such as IXOS as over kill for our requirement. That leaves us with the i5/OS root file system or the SAP Content Server in either a Linux partition or on a Windows server. Has anyone done archiving with a similar setup? What issues did you face? I don't plan to replicate archive objects via MIMIX.
Is anyone running the SAP Content Server in a Linux partition? I'd like to know your experience with this even if you don't use the Content Server for archiving. We use the Content Server (currently on Windows) for attaching files to SAP documents (e.g., Sales Documents) via Generic Object Services (GOS). While I lean towards running separate instances of the Content Server for Archiving and GOS, I would like to run them both in the same Linux LPAR.
TIA,
StanHi Stanley,
If you choose to store your data archive files at the file system level, is that a secure enough environment? A third party certified storage solution provides a secure system where the archive files cannot be altered and also provides a way to manage the files over the years until they have met their retention limit.
Another thing to consider, just because the end users may not need access to the archived data, your company might need to be able to access the data easily due to an audit or law suit situation.
I am a SAP customer whose job function is the technical lead for my company's SAP data archiving projects, not a 3rd party storage solution provider , and I highly recommend a certified storage solution for compliance reasons.
Also, here is some information from the SAP Data Archiving web pages concerning using SAP Content Server for data archive files:
10. Is the SAP Content Server suitable for data archiving?
Up to and including SAP Content Server 6.20 the SAP CS is not designed to handle large files, which are common in data archiving. The new SAP CS 6.30 is designed to also handle large files and can therefore technically be used to store archive files. SAP CS does not support optical media. It is especially important to regularly run backups on the existing data!
Recommendation for using SAP CS for data archiving:
Store the files on SAP CS in a decompressed format (make settings at the repository)
Install SAP CS and SAP DB on one server
Use SAP CS for Unix (runtime tests to see how SAP CS for Windows behaves with large files still have to be carried out)

Hello,
I wanted to confirm if we can use the content server which is used to store the originals of a DIR, to store the scanned documents using Archivelink? Whats are the pros and cons?
Thanks,
PaddyDear Athol Hill,
Thanks fore the quick reply,
let me with other DMS community cleary understand the Pros and Cons of Going for the content server storing of original files,
i belive SAP recommends to go for the SAP Content server installation for storing of original files for DMS? please explain in your own words.
so if we use same content server for storing original directly and also Archiving, do you mean to say that the original files stored in Archiving portion of the content server be copied to CDs and DVDs,
if this is the case can there be tranfer of the Original files from one repository of the content server (acting as DMS storage ) to another Repository (acting as Archive Storage)
so if this transfer is made then any original files can be copied to Optical drives,
one basic question i have is all this original storage device like this Content server, Archive and Vault do only act as Secure storage system? or is that only the feature of Content server?
if so then even if we copy the Archived files in to CDs and DVDs. they cannot be viewed directly with out the Help of SAP Logon transaction. is my understanding right?
is there any Storage System that is Supported by SAP which allows Data be stored other than Secure storage Area, and making it available outside SAP transaction for later use.
Thanks and regards
Shanti
