Are library files indexed by SEs

I have been using library items as shortcuts in my web pages.
Now I'm wondering if the Search Engines can pick them up as if the
actual text and links were there. Any thoughts? thanks -ab

Yes, because the actual text and links ARE there. Look at
your pages (which
contain Library items) in any browser and View > Source
(Code). You'll see
the code which makes up the Library item is in the page
surrounded by
comment tags.
DW Library items are nothing more sophisticated than code
fragments
surrounded by HTML comments with a special syntax.
They start with "<!-- #BeginLibraryItem..." and end with
"<!--
#EndLibraryItem -->"
Search engines ignore these comments - like they do all other
HTML comments.
DW sees the comments and treats them as self-contained units
of code inside
the DW interface. It knows where every instance of this unit
of code
(Library item) is in every page of your site.
P.S. Library items can be a maintenance headache because
every time you
modify a Library item and update your pages locally, you then
have to upload
all the pages containing that Library item to your server. OK
for a couple
pages. A pain for 20 or 50 or a 100+ pages. Server Side
Includes are
preferable.

  • Old ITunes music library files

After I download the current version of ITunes, I have the following files in the "My Music" file, in addtion to my current ITunes library:
    -ITunes 4 Music Library
    4514 KB
    -ITunes Library 2006-09-12
    5245KB
Do I need to keep these files for some reason, or are they useless and just taking up space?
    Thanks

    -ITunes 4 Music Library
    4514 KB
    -ITunes Library 2006-09-12
    5245KB
These are library files from previous versions of iTunes. If your current version is working perfectly, you probably don't need them. But, if, for some reason, you have to go back to a previous version (as some users have had to do) the earlier library file would be useful.
You probably would never need the iTunes 4 file, but the other file is from version 6 - useful if version 7.0.2 doesn't work for you.

  • Trying to back up iPad to external hard drive, "iTunes library file cannot be saved. The disk you are attempting to use is full."

This issue is somewhat complex so I will try to explain it as clearly as I can. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
It all began when I kept getting popups from my iPad saying that I had not backed up since May. I realized that was pretty dangerous so I decided to finally try syncing it to iTunes, though I had avoided doing so for so long because I knew that when I tried there was no room on the computer. I then remembered that I have an external hard drive with plenty of storage space, so I got that out and set it up with a folder to move iTunes and the backup into.
On iTunes I went to the Advanced Preferences and changed iTunes Media Folder Location to the G: folder, with the keep organized box checked. I also copied the previous backups from the original C: drive to G: so that I could delete the ones on C:.
I used Junction Link Magic to link my now empty MobileSync backup on C: to a new (JLM would not work unless it was empty) backup folder on external hard drive G:.
I plugged in my iPad to iTunes to sync it, and while it was backing up I checked the new folder on G: to make sure that the backup was being put there. It was.
However, about halfway through I got the message "iTunes library file cannot be saved. The disk you are attempting to use is full."
My question is Why? If it is being made in a 1.5 terabyte hard drive now, and not the computer, why is there no disk space? My guess is that it must still somehow be saving to the computer. But how? And how can I get it to save solely on the G: drive where there is enough room?
I am running Windows XP and the latest version of iTunes.
An additional but not as crucial issue:
Much of my music has been lost, with the being displayed next to the songs in the iTunes library, and only 50 (purchased) songs remain on my iPad. This was because those missing songs were stored on a different external hard drive ( I:). However, I copied many of the music folders on I: over to G: so that everything could be together. I am wondering if it is possible for me to get these songs back onto my iPad. But this is not my most important issue right now, because I believe that once I get the first issue solved I can simply plug in I: and G: at the same time while syncing the iPad, and get the songs back.
Note: I have come to realize the iTunes program itself is still under Program Files in the C: drive. Does this have to do with anything?

Short term, free up some disk space. Long term, move the library to a bigger drive.

  • How do i get itunes to display my library (which is on an external hard drive)?  It worked OK on old PC, but not new my new laptop.   They are M4A files. are

My itunes library used to be on a PC - but shortly before the PC went to PC heaven I transferred the library onto an external hard drive.  It worked fine.   Now I have a laptop - but I can't get itunes to pick up the library location.   I have changed in advance preferences, but the library does not display.  I have tried holding down shift when starting itunes - but when I do that it looks for *.itl files, and all my files are M4A files.  What do I do next?

You mean you transferred the media, not the library...
Now I have a laptop - but I can't get itunes to pick up the library location
The library location is in your /Music/ oflder.
Your media files (not yet in your new iTunes library ) is on the external drive.
I have changed in advance preferences, but the library does not display.
Because you have not yet added anything to your library.
    Quit iTunes.
On the external, create a new folder named My iTunes library (or something).
    Hold Shift and launch iTunes.
Select Choose library... and select My iTunes library on the external.
Go into Windows Explorer and move all the media files on the external into /My iTunes Llibrary/iTunes media/Automatically add to iTunes/ folder.

  • How can I get my books that I download from the Library that are WMA files into my I tunes so I can listen to them

How can I get my books that I download from the Library that are WMA files into my I tunes so I can listen to them. They have a ton of books but I can only listen to them from my windows media player and I wouldlove to download to my I pod but I have tried everything I can think of it they won't go over.  Someone said all I had to do was copy them over and they would convert but I can't even get them to copy.  Thanks.

Well it started happening AGAIN with my 2nd IPod. No matter what I did, it Itunes would NOT restore it!
I finally installed Itunes on my hubby's PC at work and managed to get it restored there.
Apparently, there must be some sort of compatibility issue with the windows version of Itunes and some other piece of software on my pc.
And one more important thing! I had to follow the instructions in the other thread that talks about how to correctly uninstall itunes and quicktime, in order to completely eliminate ALL traces of my "first" ipod's existence so it wouldn't demand that I restore it.
I think the software got "confused" and thought when I connected my 2nd ipod, that it was the 1st and that it still needed to be restored.
Basically, this is just POORLY written and POORLY tested software!

  • How can I find out where the Library files currently used by iTunes are located?

I have had a bit of a nightmare sorting out my iTunes files so I have various versions of Library files all over the place. How can I tell where the Library file that iTunes is currently using is located? In Preferences I can see the Library "Name", but I don't think that is much help. Preferences also shows where my i-Tunes media folder is but not where the Library files are.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    J

Ah, I was assuming you would search in Finder and display some details. All alternative approach is to Option start iTunes and click the Choose option. It should show a file selection box targeted at the folder of the currently active library.

  • What are the limits of an llb library file

After much review and some experimentation of the different types of LV library files, I am planning on using multiple llb type libraries to contain groups of vi's for an extensive testing application (multiple deployments)
    Driving reasons are:
    1) based on info obtained in this forum, calling an item in an llb loads only that item while calling an item in an lvlibp packed library loads the entire package of files
    2) appears source control will be simpler with an llb
    3) vi's are compiled into a single container vs. just a list of files in a sub-folder like lvlib libraries so visibility (or lack thereof) and security are improved
    4) by using the llb files, I can make mods to the system and have a much smaller executable to deploy and if I make a change to an item in an llb file, I don't have to recompile the entire executable
However, LV help doesn't explain very well what can and cannot go into an llb file.  In one instance, I was looking to contain all files associated with a particular pc of hardware since 1) it rarely changes, 2) it provides a single source for everything I need to interface with that hardware item wherever I need it.
I attempted to add a dll file and it appears I cannot do it.  Can I just drag files into the llb file manager or do I have to implicitly add them when saving from the specific vi or ctl file.  If that is so, I guess that guides me as to what files can be added to the llb, just ones you can open and save in LV.
Seems though, if you can include a dll in an executable, why not a library file.
Thanks for any thoughts on this, confirming or countering what I am seeing.

"My only wish is that I am capable of learning each and every day until my last breath."

OK, so change compiled to packaged.  I understand that an llb is not a compiled file but rather a container that for my purposes, keeps the individual files from being end user accessible.
Wasn't sure about the ability of adding a dll file because, as I states above, the LV help does little to explain what can and cannot be included in an llb.
My reason for NOT wanting to use a packed library is that (and this IS in the help file) when you call on one item in the library file, everything contained in the packed library loads.
My ultimate goal is to be able to utilize small pcs of my application as needed based on part number of the units being tested.  Each part number has a specific test sequence. There are dozens and soon to be hundreds of different part numbers and I don't want to have all that load when I only need one at any given time.
For reference, if I build my entire application with all support and sub's today, I end up with an exe well over 20 meg and my IT doesn't give me rocket ship computers for production testing.
The core application will be the exe and I will call the code required for the part number dynamically. Once that code loads, it will stay loaded until the next part number and normally run from several hours to several days.
I had also considered OOP but that seems to be way overkill for what I am looking to do.
Hope this makes my desired path a bit clearer.

  • What is saved in the iPhoto library file when photos are backed up?

I have been using an external hard drive to back up my Mac files. My Mac stopped working, so now I have a PC netbook. I am trying to get some photo files off my external hard drive, but I can't find the ones I want. Instead, I found the iPhoto library files. What is in those? How can I open them? If I open them on my friend's Mac, will it hurt her files?

Assuming you had a managed Library the iPhoto Library will contain your photos, and many databse files.
You photos are in the Originals folder.
No, they won;t hurt your friend's Mac.
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' to choose which Library to open.

  • Why are ITunes Library files stored on Buffalo Pro 1TB NAS being corrupted?

I'm having a flaky problem with the ITunes library files (Mac version) stored on a Buffalo NAS. Frequently, ITunes says the ITunes library file is damaged and creates a new one.
Moreover, there are temp files that ITunes apparntly creates that apparently become the new Library and XML files when ITunes shuts down. Apparently, this is done behind the scenes while ITunes is shutting down, but lately, these files are no longer being renamed or deleted. Often multiple temp files will accumulate.
Lastly, and most oddly, if I try to rename one of these temp files to ITunes Library based on best guess from size and date which is the ITunes Library file, it sometimes works, but it sometimes doesn't. When it doesn't, I will find a "phantom" ITunes Library file and ITunes Library.xml that cannot be selected, opened or deleted. They are greyed out in Finder. Since the file exists, a rename or copy will fail, saying a file already exists with that name, but I can't select it to delete it. Often when this happens, the actual file name seems to "flicker" between temp file and Itunes Library file. If I try to click on ITunes Library, it disappears, but a new temp file instantly appears. If I try to click on the temp file, that disappears and the ITunes Library file appears.
Rebooting the NAS fixes the phantom file problem. I delete all ITunes library and temp files, and reindex from ITunes, but it only starts all over again.
If I do the same process in Windows, ITunes will only find about 10% of my files and then stop. (I have about 16,500 tracks total.) Windows doesn't seem to have any probelms with "phantom" files.
Checks on the NAS disk array show no problems.
    Any thoughts?

That would be a problem. Access to patches (and MetaLink) are part of what you pay for when you buy a support contract.

I have downloaded itunes songs into my library and now I want to import them into my Adobe Premiere Elements DVD program.  When I did it before, they were already .wma files, now they are MP4 files and they won't go.  How do I change these MP4 files into .wma files?

You got the new iphone?????   I have same problem.  I transferred audiobooks to device to find no audiobooks on device (despite it being in iTunes as if it was).  Have you found a solution?????   I even tried to change import settings on format transfer but hasn't worked.

  • .xml file and iTunes library files are missing from the music folder

I recently made a second itunes library on my external hd, today when I open itunes and choose this library, the .xml file and itunes music file are invisible or translucent, therefore I can't open my library. But when I go to my music folder they are missing. Another odd thing is that all my music is still in the folder. Is there a way to re-open my library w/o re-importing all my music? Can I some how get a new itunes library file?
      Mac OS X (10.4.10)

This is not an answer but I have the same problem. From time to time I clone my music drive to an external drive for back up. When I do, I burn a copy of the album artwork folder, iTunes Music folder, iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Music Libraru.xml, and iTunes Library file to CDRW. This is so I can copy them into the music folder in my user home drive of my laptop then hook up the external and have access my library. Trouble is the .xml file and iTunes library files don't always show up when I go to the iTunes folder in my Music folder. There either is a blank where they should be or the names appear with no icon and when I click to select, that dissappers too. I thought I had a solve by exiting iTunes and letting it save everything. It seems to bring the .xml file back but not the itunes Library file. Any thoughts?

  • ITunes error message: "The iTunes library file cannot be saved. You have exceeded your storage quota on the disk you are attempting to use." What do I do?

I recently started receiving the following iTunes error message when I attempt to update the software on my iPad or iPhone: "The iTunes library file cannot be saved. You have exceeded your storage quota on the disk you are attempting to use."
Any ideas what I need to do? The software won't update on my iPad, and I need to update through iTunes, as my iPad does not have enough free space to use the OTA service.

You need to free up space on your boot drive.
(I am going to ask the mods move this to the MacBook Pro forum.)

  • Library files files are replaced with new files

Almost everyday, when i start iTunes my library files are replaced with new files & then i need to replce the new ones with my backup set

There are a couple of recommended methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer. Method one is to have two Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you two completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one.
Method two is to set your preferences so that either one or both iPods get updated with only certain playlists within one library. Have a look at this article and see what you think and go for whichever you feel suits your needs best: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
Another option when using a single library is to set one or both of the iPods to manual update: Managing content manually on iPod
Choosing the update option "automatically update selected playlists only" (called Sync Music - Selected playlists in iTunes 7) allows you to create a playlist specifically for each iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used by the other iPod. Make your playlist a Smart playlist and limit the size to just below the advertised capacity of your iPod ( for example, around 3700MB for a 4GB or 1800MB for a 2GB Mini or Nano). You can read more about playlists at these links:
