Are scripts for converting HTML unnecessary now?
These scripts were needed before for applets made with
a newer Java-version, when Internet Explorer had an
old Java-version. Nowadays, when Windows XP and Internet Explorer
has no Java, I suspect that this script causes trouble instead.
Is it best to use no script at all?
Go to
http://www.virtualexp.net/indextest.htm
compare the applets with and without script,
and tell me the results and which operativesystems you've got!
Hi there,
To display any applet in any browser you need <applet> tag in your html file with at least 3 properties and their values; code, width and height.
Since scripts are not interpreted same by every browser they might cause a problem. But if you just plug your applet to your html file as following:
<applet code="MyApplet.class" width="100" height="100"></applet>
you should have no problem at all.

Strategy for converting HTML mockups to JSF
This is a summary of our front-end development process:
- designers create PNG mockups
- UXers create HTML mockups
- developers create final JSF
Now, these HTML mockups are pretty complete. They use all our in-house JavaScript widgets, production CSS files, responsive design, accesibility requirements, SEO-friendly code, proper semantics etc. So basically the final HTML we need from the JSFs has to nail these mockups, otherwise widgets might not work, styles might not appear correctly, accesibility errors might crop in and SEO might suffer. The developers tend to have limited experience in HTML/JavaScript/CSS/accesibility, especially compared to the UXers, so the less they can do to screw up the HTML the better.
With this in mind we tell our developers to just convert the very minimum to JSF. So that basically means forms & form elements and the occasional loop. For example we tell them to avoid h:dataTable and just use the given HTML table and a loop - for some reason (probably lack of experience) we found it very difficult to nail the right HTML in terms of thead, tbody, th and td (or to get a rowspanned "There are no results" output for empty lists). We even tell them to use straight EL instead of h:outputText (unless they really need it) for i18n literals or form outputs. Then there is the added complication in that we use HTML5 (currently using a RenderKit for that). I also prefer to avoid tying my HTML to a given technology: I don't want my JavaScript/CSS to depend on JSF (or PrimeFaces or whatever) output, I want it to depend on what we consider the "correct" HTML in terms of semantics (ie, unobtrusive frameworks).
Would you say this is a correct strategy? I find it helps reduce developer workload (less to convert), reduces front-end errors (less to screw up), and might it also reduce memory footprint on the server (less component tree)? Or am I missing something?Hi!
You can import your html page into project.
1) Click 'File->Add Existing Item->Web Page'.
2) In field 'File or URL' enter path to your html.
3) Check that 'Convert HTML tags to JSF Components' checkbox is checked.
4) Click OK.
Your HTML page will be transformed to JSP page.

Here are scripts for getting OAS302 working on RedHat 6.0
People have said this doesn't work. It works. It's just the
owsctl that doesn't work. I'm not saying that oas302 on RedHat 6
is the best solution anyone could come up with, but it does work,
and if you want to do it, here are some scripts that you can feel
free to modify and use as you wish. Various variables should be
updated with however you system is configured. Remember to start
the wrb (i.e. the second script) before you start any listeners.
Linux has a tendency to crash if you don't kill -KILL all the wrb
processes at the same time (i.e. the kernel gets an uncaught
exception and dies).

nullHi Erick,
Your scripts for running the OAS302 on 6.0 linux had been very
helpful.
In fact, I dont know what would I have done without them.
Now I am able to run the listeners and even able to create the
packages and users in the database via the OAS 3.0.2 but the
problem starts when accessing a procedure in the database using
the pl/sql agent. By the way i am using Oracle 8.0.5.1 RDBMS and
its home is different than the webserver home.
The browser just does nothing and even does not log any error
message ,I have to stop it after a while but all my other
catridges are working.
any insight will be appreciated.
thanks,
Vikram ( Ironically enough I work for Oracle).

Regular Expressions for converting HTML to Structured Plain Text
I'm writing a PL/SQL function that will convert HTML to plain text, but still preserve some of the formatting/line breaks. One of my challenges is in writing a regular expression to capture the text blocks while ignoring the markup. I'm trying to write an expression that will grab all of the text between start/end tags, but discard the tags. For example, to find all of the text between a start/end paragraph, I want to do something like:
REGEXP_REPLACE('<p style="text-align:center;">This is the body of the paragraph</p>', '<p.*>(.*)</p>', '\1||v_crlf' )
where \1 returns the contents of the paragraph and v_crlf (declared earlier in the function) inserts a line break. I know there are more general expressions that will remove all tags, but I want to specifically identify the tags so I can process them appropriately. This way I can easily convert HTML to plain text for email and reporting without having to keep two versions around. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Once I get this worked out, I will repost with the function code for others to use. Thanks.
Edited by: jritschel on Oct 26, 2010 9:58 AMHere's a function I wrote for an app. I'm not making in promises on it's accuracy as the app was just a proof of concept and never made it to production.
function strip_html( p_clob in clob )
return clob
is
l_out clob;
l_test number := 0;
l_max_loops constant number := 20;
i pls_integer := 0;
begin
l_out := regexp_replace(p_clob,'<br>|<br />',chr(13)||chr(10),1,0,'imn');
l_out := regexp_replace(l_out,'<p>',chr(13)||chr(10),1,0,'imn');
l_out := replace(l_out,'<li>',chr(13)||chr(10)||'*<li>');
l_out := regexp_replace(l_out,'<b>(.+?)</b>','*\1*',1,0,'imn');
l_out := regexp_replace(l_out,'<u>(.+?)</u>','_\1_',1,0,'imn');
loop
l_test := regexp_instr(l_out,'<([A-Z][A-Z0-9]*)[^>]*>.*?</\1>',1,1,0,'imn');
exit when l_test = 0 or i > l_max_loops;
l_out := regexp_replace(l_out,'<([A-Z][A-Z0-9]*)[^>]*>(.*?)</\1>','\2',1,0,'imn');
i := i + 1;
end loop;
return l_out;
end strip_html;{code}
The loop is there to handle nested HTML.

Solutions for converting HTML to PDF programatically?
to start off i should say that i am rather new to programming in java.
here's what i am attempting to do.
i need to write a java class that will get an HTML string as input... and needs to spit out a PDF file (or outputstream) as output. i have spent the last week or trying to accomplish this using XSL-FO and the FOP library. this solution does not work too well because XSL-FO and FOP do not handle complex table layouts very well (since they require the number of columns and column widths to be known in advance). it seems that FOP (and XSL-FO) is better suited to handling structured XML input... not something unstructured and complex as HTML.
are there any other libraries/APIs that are out there that are specifically well suited to HTML -> PDF conversion?
remember this needs to be done programatically, and will probably be invoked as a webservice.
thanks,

Sliced Images are Broken after Converting HTML into a PDF
I am trying to create a PDF of a webpage and after Acrobat converts it, the page is broken apart in multiple pieces. I noticed that this is happening to images that are sliced. Does anyone know how to prevent this from happening?
Thanks!Just to clarify, I only want a PDF image of the web page -no functionality of it. The equivalent of a "print-screen" of the page without the IE window/toolbar etc. I need to have it in PDF format for printing purposes.
ASP code is also appearing in the PDF and I don't want this to occur.

Using PD4ML library for convertin HTML to PDF
Hi all
i am using API s from PD4ML library for converting HTML to PDF.
what i am sending via HTML is a single HTML table.but the problem is i need to identify the number of lines which i need to give for single PDF page for the case when HTML table is too large to fit into single page.i can decide the number of lines before hand like 31 for portrait and 52 for landscape.but in this case problem arises when page size is too large.for eg page size is A1 and i have specified number of lines as 31.
In this case lot of empty space is left at the end of page.
so i actually need to calculate NUMBER OF LINES for single page as a FUNCTION of PAGE SIZE and FONT SIZE . font size because it also affects the number of lines that fit into single page.
would be really grateful if u guys can help fast#1 There are definite copyright issues with your

Shell script for moving and renaming files
I'm not so familiar with shell scripts. I have created some simple scripts for various tasks but now I hit something I can't handle myself.
My server receives every night a logfile from another server. This file I need to rename and move to another location. Problem is that a simple mv with new filename isn't enough, I need to insert date in filename. Format for date should be ddmmyy. Also the name of incoming file changes every night. The output always starts with same letters, let's say "log", and the date is used to identify files.
For example I receive a file /Input/filename.log and I need to move the file to the folder /Output with name log130308.txt.
Any tips how to insert the date as part of of filename while renaming or moving the file? I prefer shell script as I'll use launchd for scheduling the script.Hi again,
so far I've constructed this:
cd /input
for file in `ls *log`
do
echo "Copying " $file
cp $file /output/log.$file.`date +%d%m%y`
done
Quite there. I'm cding to directory, i'll focus later how to set some environmental parameters.
Problem with zipping is that I don't know exact logfiles names. Each day there's a new name. So zip -q filename.zip filename.log isn't quite enough and it's impossible to use wildcards. The switch -q and checksums were welcome suggestions.
Thanks again,

What are the best tools for converting .shg files to HTML image maps?
After trying several different ways to import our WinHelp
project into RH HTML, I'm left with recreating the project in HTML.
There are over 200 .shg files. What's the best tool for converting
them? Is there a free program that converts them? Or is there a
better way?
LaconaYes, I have not been able to import the .hlp file, which was
my last posted question/issue. I have tried creating a Microsoft
HTML layout in RH4 Word; it begins to compile and, somewhere in the
process, just freezes. I've tried importing the .hlp file into RH
HTML; same result. I've tried creating a new HTML project with the
.hlp file; same result. If I could import the file, it'd be great.
Otherwise, I'll need to recreate the entire project, which brings
me to converting the .shg files. Any ideas? -
Use PHP to convert html page to a pdf file for email
I want to use my php scripts to send an email (with a pdf attachment) of the web page that is being viewed.
My problem I have no way to convert the html page to a pdf file without the end user being prompted to (1) naming the file (2) saving it
Is there a program or a way i can save the html as "auto_name.pdf" file on the server without user input?
I have Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional on serverThere are lots of good Html to Pdf conversion tools for developers, both free and paid. I'd suggest to take a look at PD4ML Html to Pdf converter - it has lots of features (CSS support, page layout presets, etc.) and can be obtained for free for non commercial usage. There is also a topic at Stackoverflow with a list of such converters.

Hi, I am relatively new to Web Logic and think I have made an error within the Web Logic Console with the default host parameter. As a result, I can no longer start up my WLS. Is there a way I can edit this parameter outside of the Web Logic Console?
