Are SWF files editable?

Sometimes a client asks me to do something that I think is
impossible, so I'm asking just in case the universe has changed
since the last time I poked my head outside my office. Don't want
to get caught with egg on my face.
Is it possible to edit a .swf file? I have a client that sent
me a couple of .swf files but needs a completely new sized banner
ad. I could probably rebuild the whole thing but then it would take
longer than I'd like and more time than he probably wants to pay.
So I'm asking. Is it possible?
Thanks to everyone out there in the universe

haha Walter, I had to smile when I read your Spears/monks
comment. :)
Even more important, Walter hit on an interpretation of pcgs'
question that
didn't even occur to me. Absolutely! As long as a SWF wasn't
protected --
though protected SWFs can be unprotected, too, with 3rd party
software --
then yes, it can be imported into a new FLA and edited.
Useful as that can be for some purposes, importing does
convert all
motion to frame-by-frame animation, which tends to increase
re-published
file size in contrast to tween-based animation. In addition,
directly
imported SWFs leave behind their audio assets and any
ActionScript they may
contain. In a sense, you're importing the vector equivalent
of a video file
or animated GIF. Decompiling -- at least, with SoThink --
gives you a
working FLA out the gate, complete with audio, code, and just
everything
(that I can see) that was in the original source file. But
again, the
assets are no longer named in a useful way, and if memory
serves me, neither
are those of imported SWFs. So any which way you slice it,
it's best to
work with original source!
Thanks to Walter's suggestion, I'll also mention that
external SWFs can
be loaded at runtime, which *does* maintain audio and coding
(see the
MovieClipLoader class in the ActionScript 2.0 Language
Reference or the
Loader class in the ActionScript 3.0 Language Reference). I
don't think
pcgs is looking for this last approach, but now that I'm
thinking outside of
the box I was stuck in last time, I thought it might be worth
the mention.

  • Are swf files supported in the Creative Cloud?

Just wondering if sharing of swf files is supported in the Creative Cloud.
    Thanks!

At present, this is correct. You can upload and download .swf and .flv files like all other files. Creative Cloud has additional functionality around certain file types that enables you to view individual layers (.psd) or artboards (.ai) or pages (.pdf, .indd) directly in the browser. We will be adding additional capabilities like this for other formats in the future.

  • I have Lightroom 5 and am trying to create some HDR Images for my Real Estate Business. I do not have the option to even be able to stack my photos. My headings are: Lightroom- File-Edit-Window-Help. Why does it not give me the option to be able to Stack?

Can i stack JPEG images or do they have to be Raw Files? The other help videos I have seen have the shortcut CommandG to stack, mine does not respond that command nor do i have a heading labeled Photos.

In order to stack images they must be all highlighted as a group. And the group must be contiguous, in other words next to each other. However, if you are talking about stacking images for the purposes of creating an HDR image, that cannot be done using Lightroom. You will need Photoshop or some other software with HDR capabilities in order to do that. It is possible to stack any file type or combination of file types, including  virtual copies.

  • HELP DREAMWEAVER CS4 NOT SHOWING SWF FILES

I have a presentation in 2 days in Tokyo. And I'm panicking.
I'm on am Intel Mac OS X 10.4.11.
I have the latest version of Flash Player 10 installed. (Not the brand new beta version).
I created a great website in Dreamweaver MX a few years ago.
I never had ANY issues with .swf files displaying until using Dreamweaver CS4.
I updated my photography portfolios in Adobe Bridge, and used Dreamweaver CS4 to link the updates.
    NOTHING MORE THAN THAT!
Then, NONE of the .swf files that were always viewable are showing.
There is absolutely NO Flash content showing on any page of the site now.
Not even in browser view in Safari, or Firefox.
I uploaded the files along with the newly created SCRIPTS folder to my server, and still no .swf files are viewable.
These are NOT FLV files they are .swf files that were imbedded properly, and were always viewable. Until now.
I have to go to Tokyo in two days and give a presentation of this site.
    What is the problem?
The attached files show the view in Dreamweaver CS4. The view in Safari, and the view in Firefox.
I'm screwed for a desperately needed job in Tokyo if I can't get this fixed ASAP.
    Please help.

i think you are on to something here. but i am not sure how to go about fixing this.
    are you saying the "../s
    should be replaced with "S
where is this code located? in the source code of each page that has the swf files? i should replace it with the correct version you copy and pasted? and that should resolve the problem?
big thanks if this is the issue.
    <script src="../scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
The correct link to that file would be this -
    <script src="Scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
Note the "S" in place of the "s".  *nix servers are case sensitive.

  • Where are my file extensions?

    Hi All,
I have two iPhoto libraries (one in the default package and one in a new package), and one of them shows my file extensions and the other does not.
In my default library, all of my pictures are in the library because iPhoto sucked them off my memory cards. In this package, the title field (which is the field shown below the pictures, if you want) has the filename *with extension*.
In my second library, all of the pictures were imported from an existing file structure on my hard drive. In this other package, all of the titles are missing the file extension!
I cannot find any setting that changes the behavior of what goes into the title field, but I would very much like to see file extensions in all of my libraries. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to accomplish this?
Merry Christmas (If that's your persuasions)
    nathan

they are in your temporary internet files cache and they are
    .swf files.

  • Any fix for not playing swf files?

    Hello
Having trouble getting FF to play my Flash 8 swf files on
    this page
    http://www.enhancedwireless.net/indexrdm.html
There should be a small logo animated for about 3 sec in the
upper left of this page, but instead I get nothing on my MAC OS
10.3.9. and any of my friends using PC and MAC get nothing as well.
Safari plays this fine...Also there are 7 or 8 banners on
this page 4 of which are swf files, and these are scripted to play
randomly on every refresh of this page, however they do not appear
at all on FF/netscape on mac or PC...some machines get nothing,
some get a big Quicktime logo in the middle of where the swf banner
should play. All my swf files need Flash player 8 or higher to
work. IE 6 has problems but IE 7 seems to play these OK.
    So, how to fix this?
    Thanks

  • Creating a flash gallery for swf files

is there a template out there for a flash gallery to display other swf files?
Like an image gallery, but instead of images, they are swf files (some could be interactive as well).
    Thanks !

You may have to do your own searching for such a template, but you should be able to convert an image version into an swf version without too much modification.  If you are loading the files dynamically the same commands would be used.  You may just need to mask the area for displaying the swf's since their stages will not define their boundariies when they are loaded into another swf.

  • How do I edit a .swf file in edge animate? How do I save it as a swf file?

Hello, I need to edit the actionscript in a swf animation file. How do you do that with Edge animate?

There is no such workflow for swf files.
Edge animate only understands html, javascript. SWF files are alien to it.
You should be using Flash Professional CC, for generating the swf files.

  • How to edit a SWF file

    Hello,
I'm a newbie so please try to help me with a simple solution.
I have a flash banner that is designed to run animation
continuously, I need it to stop running after 15 seconds. What's
the easiest way to do so?
This is very important for me so I'd appreciate a swift
    reply.
    Thanks.

You consider everybody, who wishes to edit SWF and has no

I hope you aren't implying that statement coming from me. I
said nothing to that effect. Why would you even be reading a post 2
months old? I'm sure the answer was either found or the post is no
    longer relative.

Many of such people are pretty legal owners of the Flash

Legal or not, if an advertiser requested a swf file to stop
after so many seconds, why not either provide someone the flash
file in order to be able to do it, or have the originator do it
themselves? I am/was not questioning the legality of this
alteration, but was questioning the fact of why the flash file was
not provided to pascalinam and/or why he was attempting to alter
something that could easily be done by the originator.

  • After I create a flash swf file how do I edit the video and audio?

I created a nice flash animation, but it appears there are no video editing program which edit swf files.
Why would flash create a file that cannot be edited in video editing programs including their own premiere pro?
I have to get a program to convert the swf to an flv file and then I can use a video editing program?
I tried exporting it to an avi, but much of the functionality was lost. I am looking at a man standing there instead of
moving his lips while talking, for example. Am I missing something? Please advise. Thanks!

If you have an swf file then you don't have a video to edit. You can export to a limited number of video formats from Flash. In order to do that successfully, you need to prepare your file so that it will export as you want. This means that you will have to produce the entire file as a linear sequence using the timeline and with no interactivitiy. You can use a limited amount of Actionscript, but it is a very small subset of the available language. Your audio must be in the timeline.
Here is an Adobe help file for exporting to video: Flash Professional Help | Exporting Graphics and Videos

  • Editing  a Web site SWF file

Funky, allow me to try again. right words are difficult for
me come by but I try.
I have a Web site that uses a 260K Swf file for presentation.
My original designer is no longer available.
I am trying to make changes to update some of the info on the
site. I have been able to update jpeg images
in photo gallery which is an external xml file to and opened
by the swf file. additionally I have updated some of the
images within the "master" swf file using Eltima decompiler
    software.
I am now try to update some of the Static Text files within
    the "master" swf file.
I am using a MAC with the Eltima Decompiler and CS3 Flash.
This is my first attempt to update/edit
    Static text.
If you could quide me toward a correct course, I would
    appreciate it.
I open the "master" swf in eltima and extract only "text" I
am not doing anything with images, buttons etc.
I convert that ouput into Fla. A "master"_conv_fla file is
created along with a folder called text that has multiple
Static Text xx.swf file within. The fla file opens in adobe
but doesnt contain the file I want to update.
using Eltima I open the Static text 53.swf, perform an
extract and then convert that to a Static text 53_conv.fla file
    that opens in adobe.
Here I am lost. I have used trial and error to get a
response. I might mention that the original designer used Adobe 6.
With the Static text 53_conv.fla file open in adobe I seem to only
be able to make changes when I click on
Edit Symbols. I make changes and do a Save As so that Adobe 8
is used. I assume Adobe 9 might not allow my file to function.
After saving I Export the result back to my computers texts
file. That file then appears as Static text 3.swf.
    instead of Static text 53.swf
It has the results I want but I don't know how the make the
changes take in the Static text 53.swf file.
I am not even sure the steps I have taken above are even
correct. It was all I could do to get any result.
    Your guidance would be appreciated

I'm a relatively new convert to a Mac and I have to say that this is the first time I have been disappointed by my choice.
I have quite a few webs that I maintained with FrontPage and now I will have to drop them because I can't take the time to re-do each page within the sites just because I can't import the html coding into iWeb.
It would be nice if the authors could make iWeb a bit more friendly in that regard. Even if only the basic layout, text, images and/or image holders could be imported, that would help.

I have windows 7 64bit installed with adobe CS6 full suite. i am trying to learn more about flash and adobe products in general. however i have a project i need to complete with power point slides were i want to take this packetsniffer.swf file and it to my MS power point slide. i need to open the .swf file and edit a couple slides out of it. I only need the one animation in it. how do i do this with adobe flash or some other application. then i will need help putting it in the power point slide show as a slide animation. thanks

An FLA is the source file you use to make a SWF.  The original creator of the SWF file would have it.
There are many SWF decompilers out there, some paid, some free.  You'll just have to Google it and experiment.
