Are the Forums Woking?

I posted "My brother-in-law has a HP Pavilion (750???) ; he thinks that's the model number.... Anyway, his system says it is a Windows Whistler Personal Edition (or something like that) and running the Windows XP Home Edition. Is Windows Whistler different than the regular Windows XP Home or is it different? We have been unsuccessful in our attempts to install Java. Any ideas? Thanks.".................... But Have Not Seen it posted yet, so I don't know if it went through or not.

  • What are the "forum alternatives"?

So if Adobe really does start to come around and consider the fact that this "Jiveware" is not working out to everyone's satisfaction, has anyone discussed or researched the alternatives yet?
Obviously they have had their own internal research but it doesn't mean we can't help and make suggestions based on well functioning examples of high traffic forums that we may have seen on other sites.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Internet_forum_software
Wiki has a section here (if the link works) with "subarticles" that contains ASP, PHP, and "Other" forum software comparisons.
It's not like Adobe is the only company that has a long list of high volume forums out there--what do others use?  I'm sure it's not Jiveware.

They need to forget about pandering to youtube-facebook-twitter-games-playing youngsters with short attention spans. They need to consider what the most valuable members of the forums want and need - those people are the ones to nurture, not the ones who arrive in a panic and don't much care what the place looks like as long as they can get rapid, authoritative help.
The people to consult should be easy to identify, and they are by no means all 'Community Experts'. Whoever makes these decisions should eat humble pie and find out what it would take to get back the real experts who have left. If that has to be NNTP, so be it. If it means speed, reliability, permanent log-ins, stripped-down-efficient-speedy-interface, go back to where you left off - concentrate on that.
I'm not saying that those who mainly ask are not important, of course they are - they are customers and it's important to attract/retain them.
But unless the unpaid 'staff' are in place, ready and willing to answer a lot of questions as patiently and accurately as they always have, the place will just fall apart. It will become a place where link-harvesters and drive-by posters play around, giving each other half-arsed answers and squabbling over points.
I'm definitely not one of the 'elite' of course - so my only real suggestion is to ask the people who matter most, and DO WHAT THEY SAY.

  • What are the forums to use

Hello I would like to know what are the most active Forums for Siebel? Is OTN the main stream or other forums exist too?
What forum should I use when it is able loyalty eloyalty and travel and transportation packages?

THIS place seems to be quite lonely if you ask me.

  • Where are the forums for BEA Products? (Service Bus, Data Services, etc.)

There is a somewhat vague message on the old BEA forums saying they have been moved here - along with a link to a non-existent 'Welcome FAQ'.

(In an complete reversal of his previous comment, Hans states:)
I'm not sure whether the Aqualogic Forums have been migrated, or (if they have) what they have been mapped to. Can't find 'em either.
Oracle's recent webinar was pretty clear about JRockit and Weblogic server being the direction.
However, for Aqualogic - based on that same webinar, my misinterpretation is that Aqualogic is one of the 'merged' families, where the best of breed is being chosen for each subset or solution area. That may be causing a delay in the forums being transferred and/merged.
Hoping Oracle comes up with a document that clearly maps both the products and the forums. The list of products is
    BEA AquaLogic User Interaction
    BEA AquaLogic BPM
    BEA AquaLogic Integrator
    BEA AquaLogic Service Bus
    BEA AquaLogic Data Services Platform
    BEA AquaLogic Registry Repository
    BEA AquaLogic Enterprise Security
    BEA AquaLogic Enterprise Repository
    BEA AquaLogic Service Registry
    BEA AquaLogic Commerce Services
    BEA AquaLogic SOA Management
    BEA AquaLogic Pages
    BEA AquaLogic Ensemble

    db{color}Oh delightful.
Expect this to get worse before it gets better.
Once upon a time (about 2 years ago now... I think it was the fall of 2005) there was a similar problem. Posts would routinely go missing. Then eventually some threads couldn't be posted into at all. Then whole forums couldn't be posted into.
Eventually (after about 3 weeks) one could only post into a few of the stupid forums (J2SE CAP comes to mind, maybe another one or two).
And it carried on like this for about a week while I carried on conversations mainly with myself in the stupid forums and nobody else posted.
    It was fun.
Eventually after about a week I delivered a bitter diatribe on the state of the forums and the fact that nobody could actually post anywhere and after a couple of more days it got fixed.
As an aside in my diatribe I told them (Sun) where they could shove it (it being these forums) and that I wanted my account deleted because I didn't want to be associated with their shittiness. And that's how I became cotton.m

  • Are the forum RSS feeds broken again?

W3C validator says the RSS feed - for example for this forum - 'does not validate'.
Thunderbird also complains that the feed is invalid.
    Jonathan.

The feed looks okay to me in a web browser, but I'm not using an actual reader or trying to do any validation on it.
There have been a few reports of this in the past though:

  • Are the forums in Greenland then?

Posts appear to have a timezone of GMT/UTC - 2 hours, which would mean the servers are in Greenland. Or maybe Cape Verde?. Cape Verde sounds nicer than Greenland but I don't suppose much work would get done, Greenland probably has more room for data centres also.

Okay I get it. I had to set my own timezone, which I hadn't done. When I do that the time comes out correctly, my fault. The interesting thing is, and the reason I noticed it is that if you do not log in, the default is PST, but if you do log in and have not set the timezone you end up being assigned to Greenland.

    Are the Forums Down today???

Nope, hopefully we'll get some kind of explanation about what happened but I'm not really holding my breath.
I had emailed the forums team about this yesterday and haven't heard anything back from them.

  • Promoting hatred in the forum

    Dear Moderator,
This particular user is promoting hatred against a community with his abusive post here. Also he justifies it when warned to remove the content.
    Re: Please clarify these doubts........
I hope the modeator takes firm action in the best interests of the OTN forums. These are the forums that are supposed to join the world to solve the technical problems in an amicable manner and not to promote any hatred.
    Cheers
    Sarma.

We are not here to discuss about any political and international issues. If there is fraud in one country there is extremism in others. If one country tends to be violent then there are countries esteemed for non-violence.
The problem with the cheat code site is issue with the " Prometric guy " and the nation has nothing to do with it. If some one writes an exam on your behalf and gets you a certificate, then the problem is with that fellow writing the exam and the one asking for and how valid is that to take the name of a country in this context?
We don't really want to get into a debate about which is more stupid:
The fact that cheating on exams is rampant in some parts of the world is a fact. There are lot many facts in the world that are not related to Oracle and may seem stupid. Even this cheating on exam is of absolute non-sense in this forum.
All I meant is not to take any name of a "Nation" which is like a mother for every citizen of that nation.

  • I'm trying to access a forum that requires a user name and password.  When I do it on my mac it tells me the password is incorrect but when I do it on my iPad, I can access it without any problem.  I can confirm the username and password are the same

I am trying to access a forum for which you need a username and password but it keeps telling me the username/password i've entered are incorrect.  Bizarrely, when I enter the same username/password combination on my iPad, it grants access without any problem.
What could be causing this, is it an issue with cookies, caches or similar.  How can I resolve it?  The forum administrator is at a loss as to what the problem is.

Try the following steps in Safari to see if they help:
    1) First try clearing the Safari cache.  To do this pull down the Safari menu and select 'Empty cache...', then try logging into the site again.
    2) If the issue continues then reset Safari by pulling down the Safari menu and select'Reset Safari...'. You will be presented with a list of items that can be reset. I suggest selecting the 'Reset saved names and passwords', and 'Remove all website data' options at a minimum.
Here is a list of the options and what they do. I pulled it from the Safari help page.
    Clear history:
Clears the list of webpages you viewed.
    Reset Top Sites:
Clears any changes you made to Top Sites, such as adding or pinning sites. If you also clear your history, your Top Sites page reverts to showing the webpage previews displayed when you first installed Safari.
    Remove all webpage preview images:
Clears any thumbnail images Safari saved of webpages you viewed.
    Clear the Downloads window:
Clears the list of files you downloaded from websites. Only the names are removed; the files themselves are still on your disk until you remove them.
    Remove all website icons:
Removes website icons, which are small graphics that help identify sites on the Internet. You see them in the Safari address field and bookmarks list, and other places. These icons are stored on your computer.
    Remove saved names and passwords:
Removes user names and passwords that Safari automatically fills in at websites that require them (if the AutoFill feature is turned on).
    Remove other AutoFill form text:
Removes some personal information, such as telephone numbers, that Safari uses to automatically fill in forms on webpages (if the AutoFill feature is turned on). Removing AutoFill information does not remove information from your address book.
    Close all Safari windows:
If you don’t close all Safari windows, someone could use the Back and Forward buttons to view the webpages you visited.
    Reset all location warnings:
Clears any information websites saved about your location.
    Remove all website data:
Removes cookies, tracking information, and other data that websites stored on your computer.

  • Are the [expletive deleted] at Adobe doing anything to improve this forum?

We were informed some time back by an Adobe representative that frequents this forum that he would look into why we keep having to login each time we revist the forum.
Although we have this 'tick to remember your details' box on the login page it never works. Now I am finding when I login I then get logged out for no reason but still says I'm logged in.
I keep getting an 'internal server error' jump up on my screen.
This forum software is complete [expletive deleted] Either supply your customers with something reliable and user-friendly that actually works of get rid of it completely - bunch of [expletives deleted].

JIve absolutely DOES NOT have access you your AdobeID account. That's why the SSI process is complicated - you sign in on the secure adobe.com server, then your verified session is passed over to Jive's network using a chain of session cookies. All Jive can see is your userID, name and email address (the stuff shown in your forums profile) - not your password, bank info, etc.
    mytaxsite.co.uk wrote:
These forums are managed by Jive and so it must be a security nightmare for them to have access to people's personal data including credit cards and bank info!!!
Adobe made a policy decision that all services will be accessed via AdobeIDs - that goes for websites, SaaS subscriptions and product activations. It's done for perfectly valid reasons - for example if a customer asks a question in the forum about a purchase, Customer Care can immediately pull up the order history as they can search for the forum user's email address (which is unique to an AdobeID, so the forum user must be the same person). Since we switched to AdobeID logins, hundreds of people have been helped this way with activations, lost serials, etc. so it's not going to change back.
