Are you experiencing kernel panics?
I have been experencing kernel panics on a regular basis for the past few weeks. I have rebuilt my directory often, re-installed OS X 10.8.2 and fixed permissions but all of a sudden my computer freezes up completely. I am not a novice at this but I am at a loss as to what is causing these kernel panics.
Does anyone have suggestions?
Mr Davis,
As I was posting that my problem appeared to have been solved I experienced another computer hang. I have included the latest User Diagnostic Report.

2011 MacBook Pro experiencing Kernel Panics when using iPhone 4 as modem
Recently purchased a custom MacBook Pro 15" with the upgraded 2.3 ghz quad core i7 processor. I immediately installed 8 GB of Ram and a 750GB 7200 speed HD from OWC when the unit arrived. All was well when testing from home, and had zero issues after using the Mac assistant to pull apps and user data from my old MBP, which I then sold on ebay.
Brought my new MBP to work, where I use my iPhone 4 (not jailbroken) to data share, using the personal hotspot. I connect the iPhone 4 to the MBP via USB, to keep the battery on the iPhone 4 charged.
While at work, I almost immediately started getting chain Kernel Panics on the new MBP. After hard powering down and restarting, the Kernel Panics would return at unpredictable intervals, sometimes an hour or more, sometimes within seconds of booting. I immediately suspected the RAM from OWC, as bad ram is the leading cause of Kernel Panics, according to a quick google search. So here is what I did in order, although keep in mind that this took place over a period of weeks, where I would intermittently go days w/out a Kernel Panic, and I was going crazy trying to figure this out.
1. Took apart machine and re-seated OWC Ram-did not fix
2. Attempted to confirm OWC RAM was bad before sending back to OWC, moved to step 3
3. Put Apple Hardware Test DVD in and let it run the extended hardware test in loop mode over a weekend (72 hours), with no report of any hardware failure
4. Some reports on the internet seemed to indicate the Apple Hardware test was not always reliable in discovering bad ram, so I purchased memtest, which I then looped and ran for 12 hours to test ram, with no report of failure.
5. Performed clean install of OS X 10.6 from Apple DVD, to include wiping the drive-Kernel Panics remained.
6. Removed OWC ram and installed Apple original Ram-Kernel Panics remained
7. Realized that at home I was on WiFi, and was not getting Kernel Panics (at least none that I could remember over the course of 2 weeks)
8. Tested w/ iPhone 4 connected via USB as personal Hot Spot, and Kernel Panics occurred regularly.
9. Tested w/ iPhone 4 connected via WiFi as personal Hot Spot, and Kernel Panics have not returned (running 6 hours so far w/out Kernel Panic)
At the beginning I had a Kensington Turbo Mouse connected as well, but over time I unplugged it to remove it from my troubleshooting list. At this point I must conclude that when using the iPhone 4 to data share over USB is the cause of my Kernel Panics.
All of the above was the long winded version of, my iPhone 4 is crashing my Mac. I just wanted interested parties to know what I've done already before suggestions are made.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Anyone using their iPhone 4 to data share and connecting via USB w/out experiencing Kernel Panics? Anyone have any thoughts/ideas as to why this would occur?
FWIW, I've tried more than one USB cable to connect the iPhone to my MBP, and experienced Kernel Panics w/ both cables. I also fully restored my iPhone 4 when the recent 4.3 iOS update was released, so I don't think it's a software issue w/ the iPhone. I do not have a second iPhone 4 to test with, I also do not have a second Mac to test with.
Thanks up front for your thoughts and/or assistance.
BillHi everyone !
I'm new on this forum (and French btw, so I apologize in advance for any mistake (: )
I've bought the brand new MBP 13' few weeks ago, and I kept having this problem until now, I just installed K64 Enabler, and it seems to work perfectly, so I wanted you all to know it
Thanks for all the help you brought me !
Hope Apple will fix this once for all !
See you ! -
Experiencing Kernel Panic when computer sleeps???
I have a late 2013 MBP... I recently updated my OS to 10.9.2 Immediately after updating my computer began experiencing kernel panics when it would sleep for various amounts of time (couldn't recognize a real pattern). After a few days the problem seemed to happen more frequently and eventually happened everytime the computer went to sleep. I contacted Apple Support and they have deduced that it is a hardware issue (doesn't make sense to me since it only started happening after a software update?). I did install an aftermarket SSD, so I thought perhaps that was the problem, so I installed a new one... to no avail, still experiencing the same problem. I've come up with a temporary solution... I simply have my computers settings adjusted so that my computer does not sleep. This obviously has not solved my problem, but is a temporary fix. Anybody have any ideas as to what is going on???? Thanks in advance!
The version of virtual box I have on my system may not be the most absolute current up to date, but it is certainly the mac os version. Besides, virtual box wasn't running. It's just a freebie alternative to Parallels allowing me to run windows. But again, unless I'm doing something in windows, virtual box isn't even fired up. It wasn't last night when I put the system to sleep.
How do I find the hardware test that came with my system? Is it on the install dvd? What's it called?
THANKS!! -

Safari, Firefox or Chrome are always crashing + kernel panics
Hello everyone,
I come back (again) to you because i'm having problems with my MacBook Pro.
Few days ago my computer starting to sound an alarm... I was forced to shut it down manually.
But now, I can't even browse the internet -> Safari, Chrome or Firefox are always crashing (the report in console mentions something about WebProcess but I can't figure how to fix it). This thing happens every 2 minutes when browsing...
Also, when looking at console I saw that I had lots of reports concerning mds_DATE_USER.crash
The Macbook Pro is also sometime restarting himself & i get the y message in grey in all languages "Your comp. restarted because... blablabla" -> Console says Kernel Panic...
Do you have any idea on idea on this problems (maybe related ?)
Thanks a lot !Hello Linc,
I do not know what are "shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports." ? So I supposed you asked me to send the kernel panic report and not "mds_ .crash" "report_ .crash" or "web process_ .crash"...
Here it is :

How to reinstall os x when experiencing kernel panics
Okay I am not a very good MAC user, i just use it to test browsers for development. I rarely ever use it and dont install any software in it but one day it decided to give the kernel panics where it talks about "You need to restart your computer" blah blah.. I tried following the support this site offers about (pressing x key or option or whatever) and that didn't seem to work. Now I am trying to reinstall OS X since I don't know what else to do. I put the disc into the computer.. i press the power button twice to restart.. and just get the same kernel panics.. so I guess my question is, how do i bring up the installer?
PS i do not know which version of mac osx i have since it does not say on the disc and i cannot start my computer to find out.Yes, it is the multilanguage thing in the center.
And then in the top left is a list of stuff and the first word is "panic". Other stuff it says is like "kernel trap" "Debugger called: <panic>" "Mas OSX Version: not yet set" "BSD process name corresponding to current thread: kernel task", bunch of error codes, etc.
I'm not sure if its in the console but it looks like a a list of errors you'd seen in a unix console.
uh oh. Well i have a windows setup.. my mini is attached to my dell monitor and microsoft keyboard and logitech mouse via usb. i tried restarting the computer with these things not attached which didnt seem to help.
when i first bought the mini 2 years ago i popped it open and replaced the ram. but that was two years ago and its always worked fine! D;
Thanks for the links, i'll read them. -
Are you experiencing Content Viewer issues on your computer ?
Hello
Since yesterday, the COntent Viewer has serious issues here, when a document is hcnage, if I click on preview, most of the times nothing happens, changes cannot be seen. CAn't find any logic, sometimes it works, but most of the times, it just doesn't.I have to close program and run it again in order to preview things correctccly and as you may guess, it takes lot of time and can't carry on this way.
So I was wondeing if someone had similar issues before I have to reinstall.
THanx !I gotta ask....are you up-to-date with all the versions? > YES
How's it working today? > SAME THING AS POSTED
Are all articles experiencing problems? Or just one? > ALL
Is the stuff working out okay on your iPad? > YES
Is the update process in Folio Builder working out smoothly? > TAKES REALLY LONG ....
More info is always a good thing! I believe I might have seen a post from someone that was also having problems a day or two ago, but they went away. Could be server issues....? > MAY BE !!!!
THANX ! -
Are you experiencing the EFFECTS PREVIEW "LOCKUP" PROBLEM? Please Read!
Hello Everyone,
After continued investigation by several members of our engineering team for the past few months we have found that the Effects Preview lock-up is caused by an altered version of the Audition executable file. If you have replaced the original Audition.exe which was installed by the Audition installer (including the trial version) you will experience this side-effect. We have verified that this bug does not exist with the released version of Audition and will only occur in cases where the user has replaced the Audition.exe with this altered version.
To resolve this issue we suggest that you delete this altered Audition.exe file and replace it with the original. If this is unsuccessful we advise you to uninstall Audition and re-install with an Adobe issued serial number.
If you continue to have problems please send an email to [email protected] with an explanation of the problem, your serial number, and a copy of your Audition system information report which can be found by going to Help > About and clicking the System Info. button.
--RonI posted this in another topic, so I thought would paste it here as well.
Okay I feel I must share this with you folks even though the whole thing was an error on my part, so anyway we have by now all heard of the AA3 vst freeze problem, well last night I wiped my HD clean and did a whole new install, because I am using an AA3 upgrade from AA 1.5 I have to install both apps, so I did this last night and reinstalled both apps, and again I got the VST freeze, but the bug wasn't in AA3 something happened with 1.5, so I reinstalled 1.5 and then ran the repair wizard on 3 and I cannot get the VST freeze no matter how hard I try, when ever I went through the motions of reinstalling 3 on various comps, I never bothered to uninstall and reinstall 1.5, I realize this is more of a major user error (namely me)
but it works now! I think that perhaps for those of us using upgrades from 1.5 something down the road broke and it effected AA3 maybe a windows update or something, but man it feels good to have it up and running, Long live AA, anyway I would be curious as to how many people this is happening to are using upgrades as well. Anyway if you want more info on what I did, just ask.
Hope this helps
Peace
and to those I may have given attitude to, well the weight is lifted and I can now apologize
UPDATE, not only did this clear up my VST freeze, but also a list of other minor issues, such as disappearing presets, Sound Lag when sweeping an EQ, Compressor pops, extra long load times, clicks when recording, multi track editing issues, my total re-install solved a long list of things,
hope this helps -
Stuck pixel, what to do? are you experienced?
Hi, after 4 months of ownership my w520 developed a stuck pixel.
No big issue because mine is FHD and I can barely see it under normal conditions, at least is not in the middle.
I searched and read that stuck pixel sometime can be "fixed". I've read about different solutions, a "color flashing software" that you're supposed to run for some time, someone fixed with "pressure and turn on" method and someone else used the "tapping" method...
Well, if it was an acer entry level (no offence) I would try that and other methods and pretty violently too but on a w520 i'm a little more gently lol.
As now I tried one of these "flashing software" where you have a small "flashing area" that you move over the stuck pixel and leave it flashing, but until now the pixel is stuck.
I tried with easy pressure over the pixel area shutting on and off the screen, but pixel is there, stuck.
i tried light tapping and nothing.
Pixel is stuck to red, so it's not dead.
Are they always fixable? have you experience fixing one on FHD screen or other thinkpads?
(yes I know Lenovo's pixel policy will not cover one pixel)

Are you experiencing the same?
After spending good amounts of money and time. Suddenly the CAL cloud for Netweaver stops working!
A totally polluted HANA database. Compared to the MaxDB, HDB is immature,
A refresh of the CAL instance did not work as the SAP for a NW 7.40 on HANA offering in gone. When trying other options, i ended up with "This product is not available in your country". My EC2 sits in the right place in the US, i am working in Australia, and of German origin?
@SAP: Why can't you deliver like others?
I am returning back to my MaxDB powered instances running on VMWARE. They are reliable
Regards
Joern BrabandtDear Hannes!
The Country on SCN correctly states Australia and the address is complete. Australia is my current professional location. Is SAP ID service the same as SCN's user detail?
I guess in the could i am being diverted off to the US SAP store. I did try the same from the store by explicitly switching to the AUS store. NW 7.4 on MaxDB is available in both stores. Still when trying to get it into AWS, i get this message "not available".
Is SCN confused, that although in AUS, i am still using my good old German email address?
Thanks for the help and hopefully this gets solved! I remember in 2013, you folks had the same problem. Maybe your webservices should be connected more tightly.
Please update me as you can!

G5 Users: Are you experiencing Fan Noise?
Simple Question,
Often read complaints about fan noise with G5's, since normally people only write when they have a problem, am curious if this is a given problem with the current desktops.
Please let me know if you experience this problem
ever? frequently? Please specify if your running the fall 2005 models.
Many thanks,
xandraMac Medic, do you have a dual processor (quad) or a
single processor? On our quad, the intake fans
bottom out at 1000 rpm and exhaust fans at 1250 rpm.
I haven't seen them any lower than that. I think
Apple set some minimum fan speed values and the 2.0
and 2.3 ghz models can get down to 600 rpm. The
fans really don't start ramping up until the
processors hit 125-130 degrees.
I have a 2.0GHz. I believe Apple has the fans set to run a little higher on the quads. The quad's CPU cores are running cooler than mine at idle. The coolest mine ever get is around 113F. Highest is around 137F, but fans stay around 600RPM all the time.

Are you experienced with Java debug and IDE?
I got couple questions:
1. Is jdb extensively used in real development world?
2. What is the most popular debug and/or IDE tool for Java on Solaris?
3. Any recommendation on debug and/or IDE tool for Java on AIX, HP-UX, and Windows work enviroments, if different from the one for Solaris?
Please help meI got couple questions:
1. Is jdb extensively used in real development world?Usually IDEs have debuggers built in, and those are what are used. If the IDE vendor is using jdb API under the covers I have no idea.

2. What is the most popular debug and/or IDE tool for Java on Solaris?Don't know. My guess is NetBeans.
3. Any recommendation on debug and/or IDE tool for
Java on AIX, HP-UX, and Windows work enviroments, if
different from the one for Solaris?I think IntelliJ from JetBrains is the best IDE I've ever used for any language. I use it on Windows. I've also used Eclipse, which is OK, but I like IntelliJ much, much better.

_y_p_w - you out there? (re: DVD and kernel panics)
Hey, y_pw,
Sorry for the public positing, but Apple's forums don't seem to give the option to send a message directly to someone.
Are you still kernel panic free on your MacBook with DVDs? I'm just curious, because you're the only report I have that doesn't seem to have the problem. Tonight I got a chance to try my RAM in a friend's 2.2 SR MacBook and after some work got it down to about 1.2GB of free RAM and sure enough got it to kernel panic on me.
After my logic board was replaced I went back to the Apple store and demonstrated that my MacBook still kernel paniced. The genius started running some X11 stuff and got a full system hang. Mouse still moved, but otherwise unresponsive. After reboot, log seemed to indicate hang due to graphics. I researched the issue a bit and found similar reports of some folks getting kernel panics with a flavor of Unix or linux also caused by the graphics driver with identical log entries as my system hang from X11.
It all seems to point to a driver issue, so I'm trying to figure out how you seem invulnerable.
Thanks!Well - I tried doing what I could to max out memory use. I've got a 2x2GB memory kit from OCZ. Right now Activity Monitor reports 1.15GB free, about 808 MB wired, 1.71 GB active, and about 325 MB inactive. I've got three web browsers active (each with CSTV's GameTracker loaded), as well as assorted Java and Flash ads on each browser. I'm running a high-def MPEG clip on VLC, about 60 photos loaded in Graphic Converter, and have the Office 2008 versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint open. iTunes is also continuously playing.
I'm also playing my Toy Story DVD using DVD Player version 5.0.1. I don't know, but I can't get it to crash. Some of the applications are ridiculously slow (VLC and DVD Player are dropping frames) and the fan is cranking at 6200 RPM. Still - everything is up even though I realize I've probably approached this machine's practical limits. Actually VLC just quit - probably because of all the dropped frames.
I don't know why, but the machine remains up and running. As I quite applications, everything seems to be approaching normal. I'm still using Safari and DVD Player still has Toy Story up. -
everytime i try to boot installation a message appears saying 'you need to restart your computer. holddown the power button until power is off then press down power button again'. i read that it was a kernel panic. cant boot into any modes but recovery mode with disk utilities but my wireless internet says no wifi hardware installed and sometimes startup manager. this just started after i erased the hard drive and had it overwritten with zeros. its a macbook pro 7,1. bought it in 2011, i think it was made in 2009. it has 320 gb of empty space right now and nothing ive tried seems to work. please help!!!! there is also no os x installed right now due to me zeroing out the hard drive how do i repair it so it will boot to installation?? i can also enter single user mode but do not have root access?
You are getting a kernel panic because you are trying to boot the computer with a Tiger DVD. That model requires 10.6.3 - Snow Leopard. You can purchase replacement discs from Apple:

I have kernel panic too! but for a different reason...
hey all
my macbook has recently started experiencing kernel panic and i cant figure out why.
the first time it happened i used disk utility to verify the hard drive. DU said the hard drive needed to be repaired. i tried to boot up from the OSX 10.4 disk that came with my computer, but my computer wouldnt boot. so i booted up from disk warrior instead. i rebuilt the directory, ran the hardware check (no probs reported) and had DW check all files and folders. DW reported one corrupt .plist file. (i have looked at every single .plist file in the folder DW told me to but the corrupt file is nowhere to be found.) however, when i booted up normally and ran disk utility again DU said my hard drive was fine.
then kernel panic struck again. did a little research and found apple jack. ran all 5 of apple jack scripts and AJ also said all is well.
kernel panic again. used cleanapp to delete some old programs and empty caches. manually deleted about 80% of .plist files hoping that one of them would be the corrupt one. DW still reports one corrupt .plist file. so i decide to wipe the computer and do a clean install of 10.4. but when i try to open the OSX installer (from the disk that came with my computer) i get a message that says 10.4 cant be installed on this computer... that it isnt compatible. ***?
more research and this time decide on tech tools pro. run every test TTP has to offer and everything checks out fine.
so... now i dont know what to do. and my computer just had kernel panic again this morning. i pasted the report from it below. i dont know enough to tell if theres anything in there that explains whats wrong with my computer.
can anyone out there help me? in the very least can anyone tell me how to get my computer to recognize that it is compatible with 10.4 so i can erase everything and start again?
bah! this *****. thx in advance for any help you can give...
