Argh, errors installing gtk-libs
Pacman sez:
error: could not prepare transaction
error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
gcc-libs: /usr/lib/libgcc_s.so exists in filesystem (followed by about eleventy billion other "exists in filesystem" errors)
I have not installed anything outside of pacman, and I have not installed anything from the testing branch. Just before installing gtk, I installed xorg without any errors and it runs great with my ATI radeon 7000. So what's causing the conflict with gtk-libs? Can't install pidgin without gtk...

I saw that in the man page, but... if there are version conflicts, wouldn't that break the package that is conflicting with my attempted install?

Hi,
I've just installed a Solaris 9 and gcc-3.4.2 (from sunfreeware.com) on a Sun Blade 1500.
#uname -a
SunOS dove 5.9 Generic_117171-07 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Blade-1500
Upon running my application, a runtime error occured.
ld.so.1: CMC: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/lib/librt.so: symbol priocntl: referenced symbol not found
I've traced my code to were it had encountered a problem. It seems that the error occured whenever a pthread_create() function is executed.
Originally my application was developed under a Solaris 8 environment. No runtime errors occured during that time.
I think there's a problem with the Solaris 9 /usr/lib/librt.so.1 file.
Could you please help me.
I deeply appreciate it.hi, take a look at:

Compile error installing rox [SOLVED]
Hi,
I'm having problem with compile error installing Rox-filer-2.11.
I have searched and nothing explicitly the same has cropped up.
The final few lines reads

I love Arch and have learned a lot but this has definately stumped me.
Thanks for all your help in anticipation

WormZy spot on
I encountered compile error when running (as instructed) ./ROX-Filer/AppRun --compile
when I appended LIBS="-ldl -lm"
this was the result
mv "ROX-Filer" "/home/mark/builds/rox-filer-2.11/ROX-Filer/src/.."
(cd "/home/mark/builds/rox-filer-2.11/ROX-Filer/src/.." && \
objcopy --only-keep-debug ROX-Filer ROX-Filer.dbg && \
strip ROX-Filer && \
objcopy --add-gnu-debuglink=ROX-Filer.dbg ROX-Filer)
Done
Thanks to everyone problem solved -
Error installing Eterm(libast)
Good evening.
I'm using fluxbox and need Eterm to be able to set the background and such.
Unfortunately I get the message that I need libast in order to build Eterm.
So I execute the following commands:
wget http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/libast/libast.tar.gz
tar xfv libast.tar.gz
cd libast
makepkg
Then a huge amount of text fills the terminal and at the end I find the following message:

So it seems this no longer compiles using the PKGBUILD. Eterm does not have a maintainer so it looks like you are on your own here. You could look at another distribution to see if they have a patch to fix this. -
Hello,
I am trying to install an add-on package lme4 into the R distribution and got the following error:
* installing to library '/usr/lib/R/library'
* installing *source* package 'lme4' ...

/bin/sh: /systemr/port/AIX/comp/oraxlc.shx: not found.
make: 1254-004 The error code from the last command is 127.
The command I am using is:
R CMD INSTALL lme4_0.999999-2.tar.gz
I am pretty sure that the server does not have XLC installed; neither does the directory /systemr. The compiler I have is gcc. I tried to set the environment variable CC to the right gcc value but R keeps getting me the same problem. Is there a way in R to specify the compiler?
Any help is highly appreciated. The trick worked ... Now R can find gcc as the compiler. Many thanks!
I also found that the configuration file for package installation is Makeconf under /usr/lib/R/etc. It seems to me that people can modify that file to use the right compiler/compiler options.
Version of R distribution package: 2.15.2
Version of AIX: 6
Hope this helps -
Error installing AIR 1.5.3 on Linux
I am trying to install Dofus 2.0 on OpenSuse 11.2 Linux with KDE 4.3. Dofus 2.0 needs AIR. But when I try to install AIR 1.5.3 it fails with the error message: Gtk-Warning **: Cannot open display.
I tried everything possible to allow AIR to open the display (xhost +, export Display... etc.), I tried to install as user, superuser, even ran it logged in as root all to no avail. The Dofus 2.0 installer itself has no problem to open the display. So do other scripts run from the console. They open KDE windows properly. But AIR seems not to be able to.
I also installed AIR 2.0 Beta with the provided rpm. It installs, but as soon as I try to install an app using AIR (Dofus 2.0), I get the same error message again.
Every help is much appreciated. Can you try running firefox the same way ( just coz firefox is GTK based). Clearly it's a really strange issue.
Also can you try silent app installation or a sudo install.

Error installing ruby-opengl and GlTail
heya,
I'm trying to install GLtail (http://www.fudgie.org/) via a Ruby gem (i.e. gem install gltail).
However, it seems to be giving me errors when trying to install ruby-opengl, a dependency of gltail.
Building native extensions. This could take a while...

Looking in the Rakefile for ruby-opengl, it does depend on mkrf (require 'mkrf/rakehelper'), however, I can't seem to find much information on how to get it up in Arch Linux. Any suggestions on how to proceed ahead?
Cheers,
Victor
(I do know about the AUR package for gltail, however, it's out of date, and seems a bit silly, since you can install these things much easier using gems).heya,
Well, to answer myself, I just needed to install the mkrf gem (sudo gem install mkrf). Not sure why this wasn't pulled in as a dependency (?) - I don't really have that much knowledge of Ruby or how gems work.
The next hurdle appears to be that it depends on ftools.
/usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/gltail-0.1.8/bin/gl_tail:54:in `require': no such file to load -- ftools (LoadError)
from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/gltail-0.1.8/bin/gl_tail:54:in `<top (required)>'
from /usr/bin/gl_tail:19:in `load'
from /usr/bin/gl_tail:19:in `<main>'
I'm not so familiar with Ruby, but from I've read, it seems this was deprecated in favour of fileutils in Ruby 1.9.x, right? And the API for this is different (yes, I did try switching ftools for fileutils in the gl_tail ruby file...lol).
/usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/gltail-0.1.8/bin/gl_tail:66:in `<top (required)>': undefined method `copy' for File:Class (NoMethodError)
from /usr/bin/gl_tail:19:in `load'
from /usr/bin/gl_tail:19:in `<main>'
Is there any way to get gl_tails to work here? Or do I have to downgrade Ruby?
Cheers,

It looks like you have not initialized JServer in your 8.1.5

Mckesson Inc.Hi,
It's good to know that the install worked fine on unsupported platform!
Yes, you can run the install in using a script in something called silent mode.
Please refer to
http://edocs.bea.com/platform/docs81/install/silent.html#1050064
for silent installation. You can only specify the products you want to install.
Let us know if you need more help.
Best regards,
Platform Team.

Hello!
I've installed Weblogic server 8.1 on an unsupported Unix-like system
(FreeBSD4.8) and in seems to be working quite fine.(I have done the
install in graphic mode on a test machine)
Now, I need to do the same installation on a remote FreeBSD system.
But I don't want to install everything ....I need only the server and
the necessary library.
I'd also like to have the server run as user www(right now, It's running
as the root).
How can I pass all configuration parameters[install directory, things
to
install(server+libs), userToRunAs(?), etc] to the server in console mode?
Is there any startup script that can be used to start the server at boot
time?
PS: I apologize If I'm asking obvious questions ...I'm new to all this
Weblogic stuff.
Thanks.

[SOLVED ]After installing gtk-chtheme
I tried to install gtk-chtheme last night to make gtk apps look nicer in KDE.
However, after I have done that, Firefox is missing all the text.
And Chrome doesn't start at all..
What can I do? I guess I messed up my gtk style some how. Is there a way to default?

Configure: error: C preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails
I'm getting an error:
configure: error: C preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check
For several things, mainly svn of gaim, gaim-encryption, but I haven't tried others. Any clue what this has to do with?i tried to install sabbu and subtitleeditor with abs/aur, and both stopped at configure.
checking how to run the C++ preprocessor... /lib/cpp
configure: error: C++ preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check
tried to reinstall kernel-headers-2.6.18-3 and gcc-4.1.1-3 ...no luck.
(tried to remove them from cache then reinstall...still got the error msg) -
How to install perl lib without make?
Hi, I know that to install perl libs, php, mysql I need install first Developer tool to have a make. But my preview experience was not good. The system become runs slowly, even if I uninstall Developer tool after compiling the sources.
Now, I reinstall system and found already compiled php, mysql and they works prefect by only 2 more things left, DB and DBI libs for perl and ImageMagick.
Is it possible to install them without installing Developer tool?
eMAc Mac OS X (10.4.9)I've found the problem. I didn't realize that OS X Snow Leopard came with 2 versions of Perl installed, so when I wanted to upgrade to 5.10, I installed it using MacPorts. I also hadn't realized that MacPorts paths had /opt/local prepended to them, so I was running the wrong version of Perl with it. Now I don't get the original error message I posted, but I do get these error messages:
dyld: lazy symbol binding failed: Symbol not found: mysqlinit
Referenced from: /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.10.1/darwin-multi-2level/auto/DBD/mysql/mysql. bundle

Can someone help me out with these?
Thanks in advance! -
