Array inside another array

hi guys
is it posible to place one array inside another array?
something like
public double[] dblarray(int n)
double [] dbl2 = new double(n)
return dbl2;
public double[] dbl2array(int m,int n)
int n=10
double [] dbl2 = new dobule[m];
for(int i = o;i < m ; i++)
dbl1=dblarray(n)
if tryed it an it told me its wrong. does any one know how to do it or if it is posible since i come from ansi c i know this is posible in c but is it in java???
pleas help:)
thanks
jeliel

No, it's not possible in a strict sense. Java is more type safe than C - in C there is no real array type...
What you can have is an array of references (=pointers) to arrays of doubles, or double[][], and what your code does is more commonly written asdouble[][] dbl2 = new dobule[m][10];

  • How to search for array in another array ?

    i want to search for array in another and when i got this array i want to take the next 5 bits  EX: array1 [ 4 8 7] , array2 [ 9 1 4 8 7 6 3 2 ] , output array [ 6 3 2 9 1]
    Thanks

    I know we should be encouraging others to help them selves, but I had a solution that I think is what the user wants.  Attached is a VI that searches for a subarray in an array, and will return the index it is found at.  It will also return the input array, filtered if a match is found.  This VI just handles the double data type.
    Most of the code comes from an old post by Altenbach that I can't seem to find at the moment, but I saved a copy a while ago.  Props to him for posting it.

  • How can I use my array in another method.... Or better yet, what's wrong?

    I guess I'll show you what I am trying to do rather and then explain it
    public class arraycalc
    int[] dog;
    public void arraycalc()
    dog = new int[2];
    public void setSize(int size)
    dog[1] = size;
    public int getSize()
    return dog[1];
    This gives me a null pointer exception...
    How can I use my array from other methods?

    You have to make the array static. :)
    Although I must admit, this is rather bad usage. What you want to do is use an object constructor to make this class an object type, and then create the array in your main class using this type, and then call the methods from this class to modify your array. Creating the array inside the other method leads to a whole bunch of other stuff that's ... well, bad. :)
    Another thing: Because you're creating your array inside this class and you want to call your array from another class, you need to make the array static; to make it static, you must make your methods static. And according to my most ingenious computer science teacher, STATIC METHODS SUCK. :D
    So, if you want to stick with your layout, it would look like:
    public class arraycalc
         static int[] dog;
         public static void arraycalc()
              dog = new int[2];
         public static void setSize(int size)
              dog[1] = size;
         public static int getSize()
              return dog[1];
    }But I must warn you, that is absolutely horrible code, and you shouldn't use it. In fact, I don't even know why I posted it.
    You should definitely read up on OOP, as this problem would be better solved by creating a new object type.

  • [Question]how to count the occurance of numbers inside the array

    im just practicing my java skill but i cant get my program work can you give me guys some idea on how to determine a number that occured more than 1 inside the array e.g i have 10 elements and inside of my offset i have
    1,2,5,4,5,6,5,8,9,5
    and what im planning to do is count the occurances of the number who occures more than 1 and for that 5 occur 3 times how my program can know that i use for loop but cant figure out how to filter the occurances of numbers inside
    my offset
    thank's

    Encephalopathic you said put - 1 instead i did - 2
    public class sample
       public static void main(String args[])
          int num[] = {2,2,2};
          int index1, count = 0, find = 0;
          for(index1 = 0; index1 < num.length - 2; index1++)
             for(int index2 = 0; index2 < num.length; index2++)
                if(num[index2]==num[index1])
                  find = num[index2];
                  count++;
             System.out.println("i found " + find + " " + count + " same number inside your offset");
    }output is:
    i found 2 3 same number inside your offset
    but another question is what if i want my program to tell the other number that occur 1 time
    like this:
    i found 1 2 same number inside your offset
    i found 2 0 same number inside your offset
    i found 1 2 same number inside your offset

  • Calling an array from another class

    Ok I have this little program that I created to display values stored in an array. Well, I want my array to automatically be populated with the same values that are in another array that resides in a different class. Here is my code for the class that I want the values to be displayed:
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    public class GUIRead extends JFrame
         double[] interest = new double[3];
         MemicCSVReader[] interestObjectArray = new MemicCSVReader[3];
         interestObjectArray[0] = new MemicCSVReader();
         interestObjectArray[1] = new MemicCSVReader();
         interestObjectArray[2] = new MemicCSVReader():
         for(int x = 0; x < 3; x++)
         JPanel display = new JPanel();
         JTextField interestText = new JTextField(10);
         JPanel display2 = new JPanel();
         JTextField interestText2 = new JTextField(10);
         JPanel display3 = new JPanel();
         JTextField interestText3 = new JTextField(10);
         public GUIRead()
              super("Test");
              setSize(160,200);
              setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
              setVisible(true);
              GridLayout config = new GridLayout(3,1);
              FlowLayout config2 = new FlowLayout(FlowLayout.LEFT,10,10);
              Container pane = getContentPane();
              pane.setLayout(config2);
              display.setLayout(config2);
              display.add(interestText);

         MemicCSVReader()
              String[] interestString = {"5.5","5.35","5.75"};
              for(int x = 0; x < 3; x++)
                   interestArray[x] = Double.parseDouble(interestString[x]);
    }

    Ok, thanks for your help. Now I have another problem. I can't get the values to display. Here is my code:
    This is the program that runs the application:
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    public class GUIRead extends JFrame
         MemicCSVReader readCSV = new MemicCSVReader();

         JPanel display2 = new JPanel();
         JTextField interestText2 = new JTextField(10);
         JPanel display3 = new JPanel();
         JTextField interestText3 = new JTextField(10);
         public GUIRead()
              super("Test");
              setSize(160,200);
              setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
              setVisible(true);

              display2.setLayout(config2);
              display2.add(interestText2);
              interestText2.setEditable(false);
              pane.add(display2);
              display3.setLayout(config2);
              display3.add(interestText3);
              interestText3.setEditable(false);
              pane.add(display3);
              setContentPane(pane);
         public void actionPerformed()
              for(int x = 0; x < 3; x++)
                   interest[x] = Double.toString(interestDouble[x]);
              interestText.setText(interest[0]);

  • How to pass value in array to another procedure?

    Hello.
    I have created application by Developer form9i.
    And I have some problem about passing value in array to another procedure.
    My code is :
    PROCEDURE p_add_array (col_no in number,
    col_val in varchar2) IS
    type xrecord is record(col number,vcol varchar2(1000));
    xrec xrecord;
    type varraytype is varying array(42) of xrecord;
    xvartab varraytype := varraytype();
    alert number;
    BEGIN
    set_application_property(cursor_style,'busy');
    xrec.col := col_no;
    xrec.vcol := col_val;
    xvartab.extend(1);
    xvartab(col) := xrec;
    EXCEPTION
    when others then
    set_application_property(cursor_style,'default');
    alert := f_show_alert('!Error ORA-'||
    to_char(DBMS_ERROR_CODE)||' '||
    substr(DBMS_ERROR_TEXT,1,240),
    'al_stop');
    END;
    And I want to have
    PROCEDURE p_print_arrey is
    BEGIN
    END;
    So how to bring value of xvartab( ) in p_add_array to use in p_print_array?
    Anybody please help me solve this ploblem.

    Hi,
    Instead of declaring the array locally within the procedure (i.e. p_add_array), define it in the package specification (i.e. Under Program Units).

  • Trying to clear an array inside a case structure

    Good morning all.  I am trying (unsuccessfully, obviously) to clear an array inside a case structure.  (See case structure at right side of vi, I colored it green to make it easy to find).  Here's (briefly) what I'm trying to do.  I have 6 test probes in the process.  All six probes are connected to the Alcatel Detector through a 6-solenoid manifold.  As I run the test, I want to sample 1/second, for let's say 3 minutes.  For the first 30 seconds, I want to pull a sample from from probe 1, so I turn on solenoid one and leave it open for 30 seconds.  Now all 30 values are tagged as having come from Probe 1, and they're stored in array 1.  I can now compute an average value for probe 1. Then I close solenoid 1 and open solenoid 2, saving the next 30 values to array 2.  (and so-on, until I have measured all 6 probes for 30 seconds each).  Then I wait a pre-determined amount of time and repeat the process.  Here's my problem.  I want to clear out each array as I begin the second iteration, so that I can easily compute the average of the last 30 values.  If I initialize the array by connecting a constant 0 to the shift register on the for loop insid ethe case structure, it does not work, nor does it work to place the 0 outide the overall for loop (the next for loop going out, NOT the OVERALL for loop).  I know my programming skills are still crude, but I'm putting everything into this.  Anyone have any suggestions?

    Altenbach, I definately understand your approach, and I like it much better than my own.  But I still have no luck making it work.   I get the same result as before (my original attempt).  Value 0 of the array simply changes each iteration, with nothing "saved".  Each new value simply overwrites the last value.  Can you take a look at my new vi, with changes, and see if you can find the error of my ways.  I am but a rookie Jedi in the vast reaches of LabVIEW Space, and you are no doubt a Jedi MASTER

  • How can I read and write text in rings that are inside an array?

    Hello All!!!
    How can I read and write text in rings that are inside an array?
    Regards and thanks in advance.

    Use a Property Node linked to the Ring inside the array.
    Of course, all elements in the array will have the same text values.

  • Array inside getURL not working

    I'm trying to put links on multiple images using the titles of the images that I keep inside an array
    var imagesTitles = new Array("Image title1", "Image title2", .... );
    I'm starting a for loop here and after I replace the empty spaces with hyphens and lowercase the image titles I'm trying to attach a link to every instance like this:
    getURL(imageLinks[i], "_blank");
    If I trace imageLinks it looks like this http://www.mysite.com/image-title
    The browser opens and I get http://www.mysite.com/undefined
    What would be the correct way to use getURL with an array?

    Here is my code:
    String.prototype.replace = function(s, r) {
        return this.split(s).join(r);
    for (var i:Number = 0; i < imagesTitles.length; i++) {
    imageLink[i] = imageTitles[i];
    imageLink[i] = imageLink[i].replace(" ", "-");
    imageLink[i] = imageLink[i].toLowerCase();
    imageLink[i] = "http://www.mysite.com/" +imageLink[i] + "/";
    trace (imageLink[i]); // trace here shows a list of valid urls
    gallery_mc["image" + i.toString()].onRelease = function(){
    trace (imageLink[i]); // trace here shows undefined
    getURL(imageLink[i], "_blank");
    Must be a scope problem but I just started using AS2, I don't know how to fix it.

  • How to copy an array element in one class to an array in another class?

    Hi,
    I have a ClassRoom class that stores a list of Student objects in an array. How would I copy a Student object from the Student[] array in the ClassRoom class to an array in another class?
    Is it something like this:

It is your job to make sure it copies into the proper array location.
    That being said, you're only moving a single student. This is not something you would use arrayCopy for, as you can just do that with simple assignment. Also, you should consider giving Class a method to add a student to its student list, as the class should know how many students it has and can easily "append" to the array.
    Note: I hope you noticed the quotes around append. Java's arrays are fixed size. Once allocated, their size cannot change. You may want to consider using one of the List implementations (ArrayList, for example) instead.

  • Passing array to another class?

    I have this code which reads in a text file and stores the data in the race array.
    import java.io.*;
    import java.util.*;
    public class Runner {
        public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException {
            BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new FileReader("race1.txt"));
            String line;
            while ((line = in.readLine()) != null) {
                String[] race = line.split(",");
                int position = Integer.parseInt(race[0]);
                String name = race[1];
                String team = race[2];
                System.out.println("position=" + position + ", name=" + name + ", team=" + team);
                   in.close();
       }What I want to do is use the race array in another class called Results to perform some calculation methods with the results. So far I haven't been able to get anything to work. Anyone got any advice?

    I was mistaken. Your array isn't of type Race[] or Runner[], but of String[]. Change the declaration accordingly.
    It's not difficult to understand. At one point, you declare a method and define the parameters (in this case a String[]). Once you do that, you have to make sure that you actually do pass a String[] if the method needs one.
    There's no difference in handling parameters, regardless if it's an object, an array, or a primitive value.

    I have another basic question about arrarys now. In all of the arrary examples I have seen, the array is populated all at once using a for statement like in my program.
    userData = new Person[50];
    for (int i = 0; i < userData.length; i++) In my program though, I want it to only fill the first array parameter and then go up to the main menu. If the user chooses to add another account, the next spot in the array will be used. Can someone point me in the right direction for doing this?

  • Assign values from one array to another

    Hi, I am trying to solve a problem that asks that I assign values in the array that is input, which meet a certain criteria, into another array. isFunny will determine if a given integer is funny, countFunnies will determine how many integers in the given array are funny or not. collectFunnies should assign elements from the first array that are funny into the new array. Please take a look at the code, I am at a loss, everything looks good to me.
    public class BatchOne
    public boolean isFunny(int x) {
    if (x%2 == 0) {return true;}
    else {return false;}
    public int countFunnies(int[] a) {
    int count = 0;
    for (int funCheck :a) {
    if(isFunny(funCheck)) {
    count++;
    return count;
    public int[] collectFunnies(int[] a) {
    int count = 0;
    int i = 0;
    for (int funCheck :a) {
    if(isFunny(funCheck)) {
    count++;
    int[] array = new int[count];
    for (int funCheck : a) {
    if(isFunny(funCheck)) {
    array[i] = funCheck;
    i++;
    return array;

    Ok, I am new to programming and posting so likely need some refinement to my posts.
    I am using BlueJ to write my code, the above posted is my entire code. It is compiling correctly but when I run, the return was giving me back something strange, I am not sure if I can post a screenshot because it would be hard to explain.
    However, upon further review, it seems that there are some intricacies with BlueJ that I am obviously not used to, because when I select to inspect the return, the program seems to be returning an array of values that is in line with my intended goal.
    Thank you for your guidance in terms of how to use the forums.

       34 00 39 00 00 00 00 00
       00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
       00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
    The array I want to use to replace values with is:
    43 4E 31 30 30 33 30 30 31 41
    Where 43 goes in the 3rd row fifth position
    Where 4E goes in the 3rd row seventh position
    Where 31 goes in the 4th row  first position
    Where 30 goes in the 4th row third position
    Where 30 goes in the 4th row fifth position
    Where 33 goes in the 4th row seventh position
    Where 30 goes in the 5th row  first position
    Where 30 goes in the 5th row third position
    Where 31 goes in the 5th row fifth position
    Where 41 goes in the 5th row seventh position
    So the final array looks as follows:
       00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
       00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
       00 00 00 00 43 00 4E 00
       31 00 30 00 30 00 33 00
       30 00 30 00 31 00 41 00
       00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
       00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
    Is there an easy way to replace an element of a string within an array with another element of a string within a different array?
    Thank you.
