Array length field

Any array type has a length field which is probably declared as
final public static int length;
I would like to see the definition of length field at the class level
within the java source. I do not find any such definition in the javadocs generated for the class Array?

Array instances do not extend the Array class. They are part of the JVMs built in types. Arrays are strange in this aspect because they are Object types but their class type is not defined by a class file.

    TRANSLATE result USING R.
    This statement replaces all characters in field result according to the substitution rule stored in field string R .  R contains pairs of letters, where the first letter of each pair is replaced by the second letter.
    in your case TRANSLATE result USING '#'.
    menas '#' and  ' ' space are 2 pair of characters.. and # is replaced by ' ' (space).
    for better understanding..
    Example:
    DATA: T(10) VALUE 'AbCdEfGhIj',
    STRING LIKE T,
    RULE(20) VALUE 'AxbXCydYEzfZ'.
    STRING = T.
    TRANSLATE STRING USING RULE.
    WRITE / STRING.
    Output:
    xXyYzZGhIj

    i.e. if I have int[][] grid = new int [5][7] how do I get the 5 and the 7 without obviously storing them in variables of their own (i.e. how do I use the .length field?)? Cheers

    we have many bank accounts with different banks, and we would like to use the bank reconciliation module to do bank reconciliation.
    we have problem in load the MT940 bank statement. All these banks are providing so called standard SWIFT940 format, which not able to give fixed length field.

    D) Fund Code - fixed 1 char

  • SQL*Loader and "Variable length field was truncated"

    Hi,
    I'm experiencing this problem using SQL*Loader: Release 8.1.7.0.0
    Here is my control file (it's actually split into separate control and data files, but the result is the same)
    LOAD DATA
    INFILE *
    APPEND INTO TABLE test
    FIELDS TERMINATED BY ','
    OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"'
    first_id,
    second_id,
    third_id,
    language_code,
    display_text VARCHAR(2000)
    begindata
    2,1,1,"eng","Type of Investment Account"
    The TEST table is defined as:
    Name Null? Type
    FIRST_ID NOT NULL NUMBER(4)
    SECOND_ID NOT NULL NUMBER(4)
    THIRD_ID NOT NULL NUMBER(4)
    LANGUAGE_CODE NOT NULL CHAR(3)
    DISPLAY_TEXT VARCHAR2(2000)
    QUESTION_BLOB BLOB
    The log file displays:
    Record 1: Warning on table "USER"."TEST", column DISPLAY_TEXT
    Variable length field was truncated.
    And the results of the insert are:
    FIRST_ID SECOND_ID THIRD_ID LANGUAGE_CODE DISPLAY_TEXT
    2 1 1 eng ype of Investment Account"
    The language_code field is imported correctly, but display_text keeps the closing delimiter, and loses the first character of the string. In other words, it is interpreting the enclosing double quote and/or the delimiter, and truncating the first two characters.
    I've also tried the following:
    LOAD DATA
    INFILE *
    APPEND INTO TABLE test
    FIELDS TERMINATED BY '|'
    first_id,
    second_id,
    third_id,
    language_code,
    display_text VARCHAR(2000)
    begindata
    2|1|1|eng|Type of Investment Account
    In this case, display_text is imported as:
    pe of Investment Account
    In the log file, I get this table which seems odd as well - why is the display_text column shown as having length 2002 when I explicitly set it to 2000?
    Column Name Position Len Term Encl Datatype
    FIRST_ID FIRST * | O(") CHARACTER
    SECOND_ID NEXT * | O(") CHARACTER
    THIRD_ID NEXT * | O(") CHARACTER
    LANGUAGE_CODE NEXT 3 | O(") CHARACTER
    DISPLAY_TEXT NEXT 2002 VARCHAR
    Am I missing something totally obvious in my control and data files? I've played with various combinations of delimiters (commas vs '|'), trailing nullcols, optional enclosed etc.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Use CHAR instead aof VARCHAR
    LOAD DATA
    INFILE *
    APPEND INTO TABLE test

    OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"'
      first_id,
      second_id,
      third_id,
      language_code,
      display_text    CHAR(2000)
    )From the docu:
    A VARCHAR field is a length-value datatype.
    It consists of a binary length subfield followed by a character string of the specified length.

  • Export to fixed length field format

    Sometimes we need to export records from our student system as fixed length text file to integrate with other software.
    Basically the report will only contains  rows of records, But we want to export it to fixed length field text file.
    And then automate the process.
    We also have Crystal enterprise server.  What is the easy and best way to accomplish this?
    Thanks

    Sorry.  Please ignore my last message.  It went into the wrong thread.
    There is one huge problem with exporting to Fixed Length in 8.5.  The Fixed Length will truncate any trailing white space.  So if you have a could that's 5 characters long but the current value is only 3, it will only be 3 characters long.
    To get around this, I've had to create a formula for each column in the report and check the lenght of the field and pad or truncated accordingly.
    For example:
    If Length ({Table.FIELD1}) > 10 Then
         {Table.FIELD1} [1 to 10]
    Else {Table.FIELD1} & ReplicateString ("*", (10 - Length ({Table.FIELD1}));
    So this column should be 10 characters long.  If the field is longer than 10 characters it will truncate it to 10, otherwise it will pad the extra spaces with *.  You can't use spaces to pad because the export driver will truncate them so I decided * were the best choice because for my purposes I knew that character would never be used.
    Good luck,
    Brian

    You should probably move this question to the General Database Discussions. This forum is for Oracle Forms not SQL:*Loader.

  • How to set array length correctly in this case

      class RunJavaCode implements ActionListener{
        public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e){
          try{
            Process proc=Runtime.getRuntime().exec("java javaapp");
            InputStream input=proc.getInputStream();

            input.read(b);
            String javaReport=new String(b);
            input.close();
            outputText.setText(javaReport);
          }catch(IOException ioex){System.out.println("IOException is "+ioex);}
      }how to set this array(byte[] b) length correctly? I mean this array length should not only save memory,but also enough to use('enough to use' mean that read outputed info from console to this byte array never overflow)

    Hi,
    you cannot know in advance, how many bytes will be read. But the read-method returns the number of bytes actually read and this is important!
    So at least you have to write:        int r = input.read(b);
            String javaReport=new String(b, 0, r); However, you still do not know, whether there is even more output available. You could however retrieve the data in a loop and append it e.g. to a StringBuffer, until EOF is encountered.

  • Maximum array length in javacard

    hi all
    i have a java class with 20 member variables.
    member variables are array of bytes. i doesn't allocate
    memory for this variables in class constructor,
    memory for this variables is dynamically allocated
    in my javacard applet (*runtime*).
    i defined an array of this class in my applet( in applet constructor):
    myclassArray = new myclass[MAX]
    for ( short i =0; i < MAX; i++ )
        myclassArray[i] = new myclass();myclass.java:

                   membervariable1 = input;
            }if MAX >= 100 , i can't load applet on the card.
    (error :conditions of use not satisfied)
    why this problem occurs? my card is 32k and i doesn't allocate memory for myclass member variables in applet constructor;

    I'm unable to place a field on the screen which would restrict for a specific number of decimal places.
    Requirement : This field is used to enter the length of an equipment.
    Thanks in advance,
    Vidya

    Hello,
    As per my understanding your requirement is that you want to create a field on screen (using module pool) so as a user is allowed to enter a number with fixed decimal places liske 12.35, so the user may not be able to enter 12.356, i.e., 3 decimals places.
    If so create an input box in module pool and in its properties select DEC from the dropdown for Format.
    Now in your main program declare a varaible with the same name as the input box of type p decimals 2.
    When you execute your program and if the user tries to enter a value with decilmal places more than 2, SAP will generate an error message stating the proper format that can be entered.
    Regards,
    Sachin

  • Question on array.Length

    I have an array[4]. Then the subscripts are number 0, 1, 2, 3. Does array.Length return 4 or 3. I am thinking 4 but I want to make sure.

    java.secure(?).SecureRandom.java.security.SecureRandom
    It's more straightforward and has better statistical properties.While I agree, with the straightforward,
    but statistical I would of thought they'd
    be even.It's better for several reasons:
    1) nextInt is faster. It uses (on average) 1-1/3 calls to next(int), whereas nextDouble() (what Math.random() uses) always uses two. This also means nextInt will use up the generator's period more slowly.
    2) It's statistically better. Although the odds of you noticing that some numbers are favored (slightly) over the "noise" of the prng's own bias are negligible.
    3) It's nicer to use nextInt. It uses OO (instead of the relatively global function call to Math.random()), it doesn't compete with other parts of the Application for using up some of the prng's period, it allows the substitution of other (better or worse) algorithms with fewer changes, and it looks better.
