Array of array of records

hey, i have an array of twelve weeks, and each week is an array of 240 records which have a char for the status and an integer for the student number.
I was wanting to store this structure to file, can anyone help me?
preferably the data should be accessed randomly?
thanks in advance!

Hi.
Take a look at the Java 2 API Documentation. The class RandomAccessFile should meet your demands.

  • Array or Table of Records or...what is best for my scenario?

    I have been given task to trap last 5 action taken on a form application by user. This would be used where user gets a FRM or ORA error, dump last 5 steps to a table in the database along with error. Trapping FRM or ORA error is easy; I am wondering what & how should I note last 5 steps ( like, what page, what block & what form the user was clicking/entering data etc) when error occurred. I am planning to use when-mouse-click or some other triggers to capture the data; but at every action if I try inserting one record & deleting one record from the database table ( last one knocked out), there is going to be a lot of I/O & that table is going to be too hot. I am trying to avoid that unwanted I/O & keep those 5 steps info somewhere in forms till user gets a error. And, when he/she gets error, he/she can dump those 5 steps info along with error messages/number in a error table.
    My question is: what do I use? Array or Table of records..or something else. I have never used any of these & thought to discuss this before going deep into implementation.
    Any suggestion would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    You could use a table of records or a record group. They both achieve similar results but with very different syntax. I am not sure if there is any difference in performance.
    Record groups are good for certain things like lists populated from the database because built-ins are provided for manipulating them. If you are going to do the manipulation programatically, I personally find the syntax for tables of records less cumbersome than record groups. Learning the syntax for tables of records is also likely to be more universally useful to you as they have various uses such as passing data between procedures.
    In your situation the table of records needs to exist throughout the forms session rather than just during the execution of a single pl/sql block. The way to do that is create a program unit which is a package header without a body. Declare the table in there and it can be used throughout the form.
    However, if you only ever want to keep 5 records, it would probably be easier just to have 5 ordinary items in a control block on the null canvas (or global variables). When you want to record your new action just do:
    :item5 := :item4;
    :item4 := :item3;
    :item3 := :item2;
    :item2 := :item1;
    :item1 := :new_stuff;
    You could even construct the above in a loop using
    copy(name_in('item'||i),'item'i+i)
    but with only 5 items to manipulate, is it worth the bother ?
    Whatever method you decide to use, you are not going to get anything simpler than 5 little assignment statements.

  • Append variable and array items after a record array search

    I would like to update a variable and array item after a record array search, and wanted to know what would be the best way of carrying it out in Javascript.
    In this case, if a match is found between the variable and area item, then the postcode item should be appended to the variable.
    The same needs to be done for the array items, but I reckon that a for loop would work best in this scenario, as each individual item would need to be accessed somehow.
    Btw due to the nature of my program, there will always be a match. Furthermore, I need to be able to distinguish between the singleAddress and multipleAddresses variables.
    Hopefully this code explains things better:
    // before search
    var singleAddress = "Mount Farm";
    var multipleAddresses = ["Elfield Park", "Far Bletchley", "Medbourne", "Brickfields"];
    // this is the record which the search needs to be run against
    plot = [{
    postcode: "MK1",
    area: "Denbigh, Mount Farm",

  • Filter an array of arrays based on some criteria

    Hi Folks:
    Is there a way to filter an array of arrays based on some criteria?
    Say I have the below set of records in an array of arrays. testArr[][]
    ID     DTLNUM           PARTNUM          PARTDESC
    AB11     AB11-1           6531079          bath towel
    AB11     AB11-2           5122830          bathtub mat
    AB11     AB11-3           3649100          shower curtain
    AB11     AB11-4           1143784          hamper
    AB11     AB11-5            2672324          bath scaleI want to filter the above array and get all records having PARTDESC beginning with the letters "bath" into another array of arrays, resultArr[][] //I want to get the result in this one.
    How could this be done?
    Please help.
    Thank you for your time.

    Say I have the below set of records in an array of arrays. testArr[][]
    Why array of arrays? Why not an array of objects of a class say 'Part'?
    class Part{
         String id;
         String dtlnum;
         String partnum;
         String partdesc;
         // getters and setters
    }As far as filtering is concerned, regex match would be very easy...
    Part[] parts;
    Part[] filtered;
    //initiallize parts
    void filter(String keyword){
         ArrayList<Part> list=new ArrayList<Part>();
         for(Part p:parts){
             if(p.getPartdesc().matches(keyword+".*"))list.add(p);
         filtered=list.toArray();
    // call filter function to filter
    filter("bath");Thanks!
    PS: This code is neither tested nor compiled.

  • Problem with java applet and array of arrays

    hi!
    i'm passing an array of arrays from java applet using
    JSObject.getWindow(applet).call("jsFunction", array(array(), array()) );
    in every other browser than safari 4.0.2 it's no problem to iterate over this array. in safari "array.length" is undefined. is such construction supported in safari's js engine?

    Thanks for the answer but the problem is the type of object of method and how from pl/sql is posiblle to call.
    The method waiting a ArrayofAlicIva, but if i define this object is not posible to set the object inside the array because the wsdl not have this functions.
    I need to define array of objects but the object is inside is the diferent type of array.
    If i Define the array of object correct to object inside, the method expect that the other array type.
    Is a Deadlock ??
    The solution in Java is Simple
    AlicIva[] alicIva = new AlicIva[1];
    alicIva[0]= new AlicIva();
    alicIva[0].setId(Short.parseShort(1));
    fedr[0].setIva(alicIva);
    this is the method imported in java class to form
    -- Method: setIva (LArrayOfAlicIva;)V
    PROCEDURE setIva(
    obj ORA_JAVA.JOBJECT,
    a0 ORA_JAVA.JOBJECT) IS
    BEGIN
    args := JNI.CREATE_ARG_LIST(1);
    JNI.ADD_OBJECT_ARG(args, a0, 'ArrayOfAlicIva');
    JNI.CALL_VOID_METHOD(FALSE, obj, 'FECAEDetRequest', 'setIva', '(LArrayOfAlicIva;)V', args);

  • Is it possible to/how can I create an array of arrays in Labview 6i?

    I am trying to create a data structure based on a tree where each limb is an array of arrays and each of those arrays is an array of arrays...etc. My ultimate purpose of this is for multidimensional (infinite) data saving/data recovery.

    I suspect it won't work for your intended application, but here is an answer to your question:
    You can't create an array of arrays, because that would be the same as increasing the number of dimensions of the array. However, you can store an array in a cluster, then have an array of clusters with arrays in them. So, indirectly it is possible. This gives you the possibility of each array being a different size.

  • A structure with mutiple data types or array of array

    I want to read some soft of a table from a text file and want to store in a structure (not in database) for future use. I want the structure to have rows and columns when I need to reach. Colums should store multiple data types (int and/or string). I have examined Collections that only store one data type and only one dimension. COULD ANYONE LET ME KNOW THE WORK AROUND OTHER THAN THE ABOVE SOLUTION LIKE ADDING THE OWNER SCHEMA NAME WITH THE USER DEFINED COLLECTION TYPE.

    There couold be two reasons:
    1) it depends how u have defined type. if ISSUESECTION_LIST is defined in type SCHEMA_OWNER, then you have to call this ways only 'SCHEMA_OWNER_NAME.ISSUESECTION_LIST'
    2) You might have defined using schema_owner_name like scott.<TYPE_NAME>. if its so, then drop it and again define type without using schema owner.
    For detail help post your type declaration.

I am trying to separate the data so that each time the method is called, each piece of the data (6 total) is put into an array list. Then that array list is put into an array list of arrays. I am sorry if I have not made this clear, I will try again. I want an array of arrays, and the interior arrays will contain 6 pieces of information each from the string that is given to the method, and each separated by commas.
    Any help is much appreciated. I am also curious how I can accesses one piece of the data at a time, this is what I am thinking for this:

    .. like I am using above? I was under the impression that the biggest syntax difference between an array(fixed number of items) and an ArrayList(unfixed number of items) was the use of the [] and () That's one of many syntactical differences, yes, but the main difference is not in the syntax. arrays are part of the Java language, have special handling because of that, and are faster and smaller than ArrayLists. ArrayList is part of the API, and didn't exist until Java 1.2 (about 5-6 years into Java's life, I think), and is built on top of an array.

    however, if I trace out holdAr[0], I get the same as tracing

    You are only adding one element to the array holdAr. That

    Hi
    "torque-speed measurement.vi" is the DAQ loop. Collected data are passed by a shared variable with a RT FIFO to "display.vi". The FIFO setting is uploaded in previous post. The DAQ uses 1kHz loop.
    I think the RT FIFO settings are quite important to this problem. If I set it to 1 Point per Waveform instead of 100, the problem is gone.

  • Deleting all elements from array and array to spreadsheet string

    Hello,
    I would like to write a new data file for each "recording" session without closing the VI.  My problem is that the last "recording" session's data is at the top of every successive session's text file.  I do not want this.  I've tried to delete all rows from the array after my array to spreadsheet string function, but I think the problem is somewhere with the shift register and how the array is built.  I'm not too familiar with LabView and this aspect of my interface is driving me crazy.  Attached is my code and two successive data files.  I have not been able to find a solution on these or the LAVA forums.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Also, I know there is an easier way to write this kind of streaming data, but I need to do it this way for other devices and synchronization purposes.

    A few more comments to your code:
    Your loop does not have a wait, meaning it spins the empty case millions if times per second, consuming all CPU while not doing anything. Add an indicator to [i] to see.
    To clear a 2D array in one case frame, just don't wire the output tunnel and set it to "use default if unwired". You'll get an empty array. No fancy tools needed.
    I probably would use an event structure and also protect the data if the save dialog is canceled.
    Here's a simple draft that probably requires a bit more work but should show some of the ideas.
    You should also
    add some protection that the VI cannot consume all available memory if it runs forever.
    Create a seperate case to save the data later if the file dialog is cancelled the first time.

  • Arrays of arrays or list of arrays?

    Hi!
    I've spent 2+ hours now trying to figure this out/browsing the web.
    I have x number of rows in db, and now I'm trying to convert this data to an array.
    Like this:
    String foo[] = null;
    Array unordered[];
    int i=0;
    while(ResultSet.next()){
       foo = new String[]{  ResultSet.getString("osa_id"),
                            ResultSet.getString("k_teksti"),
                            ResultSet.getString("linkki"),
                            ResultSet.getString("taso"),
                            ResultSet.getString("k_alaisuus")};
       unordered[i] = valiaikainen;
       i++;
    }Compiles, but gives errors during run. In PHP this is annoyingly easy. (Grin.) Also I have to manipulate the order of the unordered, depending the data that arrays it contain holds. Is there easier way? Any help welcome, as I'm out of ideas.
    Thanks

  • A few questions about Arrays and Array Methods.

    I have 2 dimentional arrays in a number of classes, and I wish to pass them about as variables, however, I can only seem to send int[], rather than int[][]. Gives me some compile errors.
    Another thing. How do i get the length of an array?
    I've tried: getLength(object), but it's a 2d array (int[][]), and It's having none of it. How do i get the length of a particular side?

    An object like int[][] only has a single "length", and that is the length of the first dimension. This object is an array that contains arrays of int, and each of those arrays could have a different length. Your 2D array may happen to be rectangular but that isn't a requirement of Java. So you would have to write your own code to find the lengths of the sides. The first side would be theArray.length, the second side would be theArray[0].length, and like that.
