Artists' name appears twice on alphabetical list?

Hello I recently ran into a problem with the music app on my phone. I was syncing some songs from iTunes to my phone until I realized one of the artist's name that was already on my phone started appearing twice on the artist alphabetical list. The artist's name starts with the letter 'L' and it shows up on the right spot on the list, but there's also a duplicate on the bottom of the "W" section. Clearly it shouldn't be there since the name starts with an 'L'. I tried deleting the duplicate but when I do, the right one disappears as well. Please help me. I don't know what to do! My iOS and iTunes are updated and there hasn't been this kind of problem before. It's really bothering me. I'm sorry if you don't understand what I'm trying to say. I wish I can show you with pictures but I'm not sure how to upload pictures to here...

When you say you "installed" Find My iPhone, are you referring to the app of the same name or do you mean you turned on the Find My iPhone service (Settings>icloud)?  If the former, then that doesn't turn on the service and you won't be able to track it.
iPad name appears twice?  Did you by any chance perform a restore of an iPad backup to a new iPhone, thereby naming the iphone the same as the iPad?

  • TS2972 Only 9 Artist Names appear on the list

When I connect to my Home Sharing Library from my PC (running iTunes version 11.0.1.12 on Widows xp prof. service pack 3) with my iPhone 4s (iso version 6.0.1) it will only list 9 artist names and 85 album names yet there are about 5,000 songs and over 1,200 albums. I can view all the songs and see the artist name and album under each song so I know they are all tagged. Befor I upgraded to itunes version 11.0.1.12 I don't think I had this problem, it was listing so many artists and albums I assumed it was listing them all.
I have tried moving the library but this hasnt changed anything. I have also rebooted both devices without any success.
My apple TV lists all the artists and albums so I guess the problem must be with the iphone?
    Can anyone help please?

    Hi,
I am not entirely sure I completely followed all of that.
You can set two computers to have the same Screen Name and allow them to Log in to the AIM servers at the same time.
The Bonjour Buddy List takes the name from the Address Book so you can not login in to both computers as Gregory Lazarchik as the Mac User on Both (If that is how your Name is in the Address Book).
Going back to the AIM (Apple valid as well) Name. Once both computers are logged in with the Same Screen Name you can not appear in each others Buddy List (iChat does not allow you to Add yourself to the Buddy List)
This used to be possible in iChat 2 and you could text chat to "yourself"
AS I said before the other Issues are about the settings in iChat > Preferences > Accounts > Security about Allow and Block lists (At BOTH ends) that make people appear Off-line over AIM - Well that and Spelling of the Screen Name or adding them as @mac.com when they should be @me.com or an AIM name
    Using my name for example
    ralphjounsr
    [email protected] and
[email protected] are three different Buddies
As only one of those is correct you would see the others as Off-Line because the AIM Servers don't tell you if the name is a valid (in use) name.
I am glad that you are sorted on this.

  • Single artist is appearing twice in My Music

One artist, one album, saved in one folder on my PC. Yet she appears twice in My Music. In one of the appearances there is one track, in the other are the rest. They both appear in My Music with the same artist name and same album name.
How do I merge them into one?

    *HowTo: Grouping Tracks Into Albums*
Excuse the long post, but hopefully covering all the bases (that I can think of) will help you fix the other issues you are likely to run into as you try to organise your iTunes library.
    <hr>
    *Use an album friendly view*
iTunes will let you sort music on many columns, some of which are unlikely to group albums together or put the tracks in their normal order. The most useful order for editing the library is probably the *List View* organised as *Album by Artist*. If you're not already there, select the list view and click on the column heading for Album until it reads Album by Artist. If the items you're trying to gather together are still scatted through the library use the options in the *Search Box* to narrow down the results until you can see the items you need to edit. You can also use the *Browser Pane* (View > Show Column Browser & View > Column Browser submenu) to display lists of Artists, Albums, Genres etc. Selecting one or more items in these columns will focus the track listing on matching items.

    *One cover, too many tracks*
The iPod (and iTunes to a lesser extent) conflates two or more albums with the same title, most obviously with *Greatest Hits*. On the iPod this can result in one album acting as a combination of two or more. Selecting any cover gives all the tracks of all albums with the same title. See below how selecting either of two distinct albums with the same title gives a track listing which is a combination of both albums The workaround for this "Greatest Hits" bug is to give each album a unique title - I tend to go for *Album - Album Artist* as this reads clearly in the iTunes browser. Alternatively you could use the wording as it appears on the cover or append different numbers of spaces for each different album. Somewhat oddly, setting different values for Sort Album doesn't work.

*Missing Artist or Album not with others by same artist*
iTunes relies on the Gracenote CDDB database when identifying CD's. This often marks collections or anthologies of an artist's work as a compilation. It also seems that the iTunes Store may mark an album as a compilation in order to keep it grouped when there are tracks with guest or featured artists. However, the compilation flag has the logical function of grouping together tracks with the same album name, but different artists on each track, e.g. "Now That's What I Call Metal 666!". These compilations are then all grouped together at the end of cover flow. Most of us would expect "Greatest Hits" albums to be listed with the other albums by the same album artist. For albums which are essentially by a single album artist or group it is best to set the appropriate value for the *Album Artist* and then set *Part of a compilation* to No.
    <hr>
    *One album, too many covers*
For true compilations, where each track is by a different artist, the answer is to set *Part of a compilation* to Yes and enable the iTunes preference to *Group compilations when browsing*. If the album is not a compilation however, any tracks which list guest artists may be treated as separate items. Filling in the Album Artist field is enough to link things in iTunes. Sadly, however, most iPod models ignore the Album Artist field when grouping albums so this is only a partial solution. You can simply mark the entire album as a compilation which seems to be the way iTunes often handles it, however that's not an ideal fix. Short of waiting for Apple to address this issue (and as far as I can tell it goes back to the 1st gen. of iPods) we need a workaround. What I do is to put any additional artist info. in square brackets after the song name. E.g. *Track \[Feat. Guest\]* and then set *Artist=Album Artist* for each track. For anthologies where the Album Artist is credited as part of another group, e.g. for Cream tracks on an Eric Clapton anthology, I use *Track \[As Group\]*. For a track where the main Album Artist doesn't receive a credit, e.g. the first track of the Slim Shady LP credited to Jeff Bass, I just set the track name to *Track \[Guest\]* while still setting the artist to the album artist. N.b. I use square brackets to indicate that this is information about the track as distinct from parentheses in the song title and also use this style for Mix/Live/Bonus info.
Since firmware version 3.x the iPhone & iPod Touch do in fact use the Album Artist field & have stopped grouping on the part of a compilation setting, however setting both *Part of a compilation* to Yes and the *Album Artist* to "*Various Artists*" will group compilation albums both in iTunes and whichever type of iPod/iPhone you happen to be using.

*One album, still too many covers*
iTunes may split albums into two or more sections if some tracks from the album have different values for Artist, Album Artist, Album, No. of Discs or Part of a Compilation. Tiny differences such as trailing spaces, accented characters or variants of symbols can sometimes be quite hard to spot. The iPod is also more sensitive to case variations and may split or reorder an album that looks okay in iTunes. Normally overtyping the desired value for each shared field will complete the grouping of the album into one entity. Occasionally, however, this method seems to fail. When this happens I've found that you can force every field to update properly by adding some extra text - e.g. a trailing X, which once applied seems to complete the joining of the tracks into one album. Once this has happened the extra data can be removed and the album should remain properly grouped.

*Tried that, there are STILL too many covers!*
The Sort Artist, Sort Album & Sort Album Artist fields can be used to override the normal sort order. For example iTunes automatically drops leading articles (a/an/the) so "The Beatles" are arranged under "B" instead of "T". Occasionally different tracks from the same album can have different values in these sort fields which can also break up the grouping. Making the sort columns visible in iTunes can help with spotting & correcting such problems.

    *One cover for multi-disc album*
Multi-disc albums are often listed as *Album (CD1)* for CD 1, *Album (CD2)* for CD 2 etc. To display these properly using just one cover, each disc should have the correct *Disc X of Y* values set, and then the entire album should be given the single title Album. Being somewhat obsessive I also renumber the tracks sequentially, working backwards from the last track (so that no two tracks ever have the same number) until I reach disc 1. You can still give tracks from the individual discs different artwork should it be relevant so that the correct artwork will be displayed as the album progresses.
    <hr>
    *Tracks out of sequence*
Check that all tracks have the same/correct disc no. For a single disc album this should be either blank (my preference) or 1 of 1. iTunes will sort tracks with a disc no. of 1 before those that are blank. Just for fun the iPod sorts them the other way around so an album that is correct in iTunes may be out of sequence on an iPod or vice-versa. In addition ensure that the Artist, Album Artist, Album, Sort Artist, Sort Album Artist & Sort Album fields are consistent across all tracks.

    *One artist, many names*
With some artists, particularly classical composers, you should be aware of alternative representations of their names. E.g. 2Pac vs. Tupac. The menus will work best if for each artist you standardise on just one form of their name. E.g. make a choice between Mozart, W.A. Mozart or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and then apply it consistently. For classical music I tend also to use the Composer as the Artist & Album Artist and either discard the performer details or place these into the Comments field. In some cases the Sort Artist/Sort Album Artist fields can group alternate forms in iTunes but these will break up again on the iPod. It is best therefore to use Artist & Album Artist consistently so the name is shown the way that you want and Sort Artist & Sort Album Artist to control where it is displayed.

  • When I add artists to my ipod/iphone the artist name displays twice

When I go to add artists as a group to my ipod nano or iphone 4, the artist name comes up twice spelt differently.  eg I see, "Black Eyed Peas" and "The Black Eyed Peas" from the Artist check list.  Please note these songs are not on my iphone/ipod yet, this is me merely looking to select and add them to my iphone/ipod.  Some of the songs I have by The Black Eyed Peas are from different albums but I have ensured they are all sorted by "The Black Eyed Peas" under "Get Info".  I've also set the tracks to be 1 of 14 for one album and 1 of 1 for the songs that I got from compilation CD's.
I've found multiple help pages but none of them fixed the issue I am having.  I am using iTunes 12.0.1.26 for windows 7.  Can anyone fix this?  It's itunes that's the issue it's not the device I am tying to sync it to.

The same thing happened to me when I updated to the new software when iPhone 4S came out.

  • Same Artist Name Displayed Twice In iPod Menu.

Lately if I put 1 or 2 songs in my itunes by the same artist but it's not bought off itunes the artist name will show up twice on my ipod. I have the latest itunes and everything is spelled correctly. PLEASE HELP!

A spelling or punctuation mistake, or sometimes a trailing space usually causes this after the artists and/or song name, which fools the iPod into thinking that there are two different artists or songs. The trailing space is the hardest to spot.
Best way to cure this is to go into iTunes, highlight that artist and/or songs, right click on them and select "get info".
This brings up the multiple song info window. If you see the "artist" field is left blank, then there is a discrepancy with that name.
So to correct this, in the artist or song box retype the name, as you would like it, and then click ok. You should do this even if no mistakes are immediately visible.
Re sync this new artist/song info to your iPod.
If the above is not the issue, try this also. Highlight all the songs for that artist, right click on them and select "apply sort field/same artist".
    See if that works.

  • Artist name showing twice??

The spelling of the artist name is the same and when I download to the ipod, the same artist name comes up twice back to back. How do I fix this? It is annoying because I have to look through both listings of the same artist to find a song.

  • Printer name appearing on my wifi list

Lately, I've seen that my printer's name is appearing on my wifi list. What is the password ? Does it even work? What does it do ?

Sounds like you have Wireless Direct enabled in the printer.   This needs to be disabled and the printers SSID will no longer be visible.  Read your manual to see how this is done.

  • Music Artists' names appear as lowercase on my phone, but uppercase in iTunes?

    Hi,
So I have quite a few artists whose albums I've decided to put on my iPhone 5S and for some reason their names are showing up as all lowercase. At first I thought the ID3 tags weren't correct, but after using two ID3 tag editors (alongside the iTunes "get info" screen), I found that the tags weren't the issue. I also thought it might've been the actual phone itself; perhaps the software was corrupt, but I actually had to get my phone replaced today because the screen was lifting and after syncing to my library at home and looking at my Music app and seeing the artist field still reading as all lowercase, I figured it wasn't my phone. So what could it be? It's really strange seeing some artists cased correctly like "Grace Jones" and "Sam Smith", while also seeing others cased incorrectly like "prince" and "fka twigs".
Please help me figure out what is wrong with these artist fields. I have tried the following to no avail: restarting my computer, updating iTunes, deleting iTunes plist files, reinstalling iTunes, deleting and reading songs into iTunes, editing ID3 tags, changing the artists' name to something else and then back to the correct name, restarting my iPhone, and hard resetting my iPhone.
To clarify, the artists' names all read in correct case on iTunes, and only read in all lowercase on my iPhone.
    Thanks in advance!

P.S. Not sure where to post thi

Ok sorted it looks like the folder where the music is stored had changed to itunes media when all my music is in itunes music. I have reset the default folder back to itunes music and that seem to have solved the issue. Thanks for those that helped.

  • Middle Name appearing twice in CRM

    Hi everyone,
I created a custom CRM form containing just a "Middle Name" Field. I noticed though in the admin under CRM > Customers that there is a "Middle Name" appearing under "Contact Details" and then a second "Middle Name" that appears further down the page under the "Middle Name" heading which is the custom CRM field.
I understand why the second one is there but I'm wondering how the first one got there. I looked in the web form editor and there is no Middle Name under the default fields.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
    Appreciate any help.

For the object tag, you should add <noscript>

  • Artists name appears more then once

I just uploaded a bunch of Smashing Pumpkins songs and then later on when I went to listen to my iPod i'm scrolling through the Artists and it's in there 4 times
    Smashing Pumpkins
    Smashing Pumpkins
    Smashing Pumpkins
    Smashing Pumpkins
each one has the same exact songs in it why is it in there 4 times and how do I fix it - Thanks

My first thought is to click to edit the title of them. It's hard to illustrate on here but sometimes there is an extra space at the end of the artist name or before it. That will cause it to make more than one show up since the ipod reads it as two different things. Just go through and make sure there are no extra spaces or anything and that the names are EXACTLY the same to have only one show up.
The one thing that makes me think that isn't the problem is because you said ALL the same songs are in them. Usually the one with the wrong title will show up with that single song in it. Hmm..Look and see anyway, it wouldn't hurt.

  • Domain name appears twice!

    Hi,
I use iWeb to post three different websites, but every time that I log to the first (main) website, the domain name appears as:
    http://www.MYNAME.com/www.MYNAME.com
instead of just showing the domain once (http://www.MYNAME.com)
Does someone have any idea about how to fix it?
    Thanks!

Go into iWeb and change the name of your site in the top left corner. This happens when you name your site within iWeb the same as your domain name. Change it to something like Site so your site will then come up as http://www.mydomain.com/Site/index.html.
If you don't like this, then take your site off CNAME and forward using ordinary web forwarding by forwarding your domain to web.me.com/username/sitename.
You did not say whether your are publishing to MMe or not? If you are uploading directly, the only thing you can do is change the site name to something different as I suggested.

  • URL name appears twice after upload???

Hoping someone can help with a small issue using iWeb. Whenever I upload / updated my bands web site using the publish to FTP server within iWeb a weird thing occurs. The URL had the domain name twice as in "thelostwillfollow.com/thelostwillfollow.com/Home.html" instead of "www.thelostwillfollow.com/Home.html". I do have the most current version of iWeb and I'm pretty sure I'm filling out the fields correctly. I've actually tried filling in the fields on the upload screen several ways to see if it corrects the issue and it hasn't.
Now, this can be corrected by using a third party FTP to log in and make some changes to the folders, but I shouldn't have to do this.
Can anyone please assist me with troubleshooting this issue. I have attached two screen shots so you can see whtat I mean and how I have the FTP screen filled out.
Thank you in advance for any and all help.
    Kindest regards,
    -Ken

That's because you named your site the same as your domain.name.  The standard URL format is:
    http://domain_name/site_name/page_name.html
If you don't want the site name to be the same as the domain name change the site name in iWeb.
    To remove the site name from the URL address do the following;
publish your site to a folder on your hard drive.
using a 3rd party FTP client like the free Cyberduck select just the contents of your site folder.
upload those contents to the public_html or root folder of your account on the server.
This will give the following in the URL window for each page of you site:
    http://www.domain_name.com/page_name.html

  • Front Row shows artist names twice

    Hi,
I seem to have a re-appearing problem. I have an artist that has his name appearing twice in the Front Low artist list although in iTunes both of the albums (2 altogether) are under one artist name. I checked the actual files in iTunes folder and there is only 1 folder with the artist name..puzzled ??
is there a preference or something like that, that could cause the Front Row
so the artsit name twice ? Is there a way to check what artist names are
in a list that iTunes checks when it "guesses" what artist your about to write
    in the data field ??
    Thanks

I do have an iPod but none of these albums are synced there.
The Front Row list is my whole collection on a seperate account.
In fact I'm sure that the reason I have this trouble is this account as
I'm constantly mirroring my whole collection on 2 different Macs. I keep ripping on another Mac and then transering the audio files + the 2 iTunes data files
to the other Mac. I don't think it is misspelling AFAIK this should lead to two almost identically named artist folders and I have only one. Also like I said, I already sorted this out a month ago or so but now it seems to have re-appeared
    in Front Row.

  • Including "The" in artist names when listing in I-Tunes

Is there a way to prevent I-Tunes from dropping the "The" from artists names when listing them in I-Tunes and on my I-Pod?
For example, when I scroll through artists, I don't want "The Beatles" to be listed between artists "Bass 305" and "Billy Idol", but rather within the "T's".
The problem is that I-Tunes also exports the songlists with "The..." in the artist name, which means my printed list is in different artist order, so I can't make a one to one match up. So an alternate solution would be to set I-Tunes to drop the "The" on artist names when exporting to a list.
    Thanks!

    Rod--
Glad it worked out for you...
I can't believe I got an answer to this question so fast.
It's kind of similar to another complaint, which is that the localizations for other languages sometimes don't include "The" any more, so people whose language was set to French or German were looking for a way to put it back. So I just made the leap from addiing it to just trying to comment it out...
you have to use the remote control to type the 3 digit # of that artist or album.
How does that work if you have more than 999 albums or artists?
It also makes me wonder how I-Tunes would handle the artist "The The"? Infinite loop?
Well, that is their address, so maybe. Seriously, though, it just finds the first "The " and puts it at the end. If you look at the lines you commented out, they're in pairs. The first is the search string and the second string tells iTunes how to replace it. So "The The" would end up as "The, The" for sorting purposes.
    cheers,
    charlie
