Artwork Column won't keep choice of "Now Playing" image

Since updating to iTunes 9.2.1, I have noticed that my Artwork Column no longer keeps my preferred choice of image, the "Now Playing" image. When I select something, it immediately switches to "Selected Item" and stays there until I switch it back manually. Does anyone know a workaround to keep "Now Playing" selected (at least until the next bug fix)?

I just tried that, and while it helped, I think, it didn't fully resolve the problem. iTunes still switches the image to "Selected Item", but when I start playing something, it changes to "Now Playing". So it's better, but I'd still like it to just use "Now Playing". Any other ideas?

IPod won't respond, stuck on "now playing"

As stated in the title, my ipod is frozen on the "now playing" screen. The iPod will not reset. Toggling the hold switch has no effect. Plugging the ipod into the wall has no effect (does not switch to the charging screen). My computer (PC) does not read the iPod. I tried downloading the iPod updater and doing that, but of course my computer does not recognize my iPod.
Any ideas?

Matthew, I had a similar problem last night. Then this morning I just fiddled with it, going from one screen to another and it was fine again. Bizarre...
So you've tried to reset it? Toggle hold switch on and then off again, followed by holding down simultaneously Menu button + select button for about 6 seconds until screen goes off, then Apple logo appears.
I was suggested by a participant to this forum (King Cole) to restore the iPod. Try that if all fails:

How to show 'now playing' Image in bottom left, How to show 'now playing' Image in bottom left

Hi,
On my iTunes (10.7) in the bottom left corner it shows an image of the music you are currently playing titled as Now Playing.
I am trying to get the same thing on my father's iTunes, his is also v10.7 but no 'now playing' section. How can I enable this? I can't seem to find it in the 'view' menu either..

I have noticed three strange things with my feed (http://www.abanet.org/abastore/books/podcast/bookbriefs.xml) in relation to iTunes:
#1. My podcast image shows shows up fine in the store, but doesn't show up in now playing when it is subscribed to (I have tested this on a Mac and a PC).
#2. I put three iTunes categories in my feed, but it only seems to show up in the first one.
#3. My Backlight for my Zen V Plus is Dimmed and the Now Playing image is burnt on the screen!!

I already tried changing the contrast! It's @ 00%! And the image isn't burnt on the screen because i left it on too long. I already thought of that and i never leave it on for more that an hour and a half at a time and i have it on the setting where if the player is left idle for fi've minutes it shuts down automatically. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!shiftone!!!!!

I can see that it's on (and the music plays), but the screen is so dim you can't even tell that it's on. I have a little related question about a bug I've got. Would you have any ideas about this?
I've got a bit of a problem with the Now Playing window that should pop open and act as a player-window, with the artwork of the song filling the space. This function was working for me but it's now stopped. When I click on the Now Playing image it tries to open, adding a tab to the task bar, but then I can't expand the window. This has happened before and then righted itself but there must be some reason why it stops. I've recently been updating a lot of song artworks. This could be related. Is this an iTunes bug or is the fault with my computer? Any fixes that you would know of?

I upgraded my iMac to Lion and now it won't keep a wireless connection. Any suggestions on what I can try?

Upgraded my 27" iMac (4 GB memore/3.2 GHz Intel Core i3) to Lion 10.7 and now it won't keep a connection to my wireless. I've had to shift over to working on my MacBook Pro which is also upgraded to Lion but showing no problems whatsoever.
I bought the iMac this summer, refurbished from Apple. I've also never been able to get it to play video ... might or might not be related to the problem here. (yes, I've updated the silverlight)

Things You Can Do To Keep Your Computer From Slowing Down
If your computer seems to be running slower here are some things you can do:
Boot into Safe Mode then repair your hard drive and permissions:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions Pre-Lion
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

Boot from your Lion Recovery HD. When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Restart your computer normally and see if this has helped any. Next do some maintenance:
Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For situations Disk Utility cannot handle the best third-party utility is Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep. Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger. These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or Lion and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line. Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
1. Carbon Copy Cloner
2. Data Backup
3. Deja Vu
4. SuperDuper!
5. SyncTwoFolders
6. Synk Pro
7. Synk Standard
8. Tri-Backup

Additional Hints
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Add more RAM. If your computer has less than 2 GBs of RAM and you are using OS X Leopard or later, then you can do with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion work much better with 4 GBs of RAM than their system minimums. The more concurrent applications you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
Always maintain at least 15 GBs or 10% of your hard drive's capacity as free space, whichever is greater. OS X is frequently accessing your hard drive, so providing adequate free space will keep things from slowing down.
Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order. If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
Often this problem occurs because of a corrupted cache or preferences file or an attempt to write to a corrupted log file.

How to update the Artwork column in Itunes 8?

I had to correct some embedded album covers in some MP3 files and Itunes picked this up correctly if I Get Info and look at the album art now. However, the Artwork column in list view will not pick up the change. I had re-added the files to the library, deleted the art and re-added using the Info pane but the artwork column remains on the old art - any ideas?

Iphone won't keep battery charge - this is my third iphone!

After a year of no iphone problems, using wifi all the time (no bluetooth) suddenly my phone wouldn't keep its charge. Apple happily replaced it. The replacement phone had even worse problems within a few days, and they replaced that one too. Now my third iphone won't keep a charge. I have bluetooth and wifi turned off, and I don't autocheck my email messages. With no usage, the battery is down 25% 12 hours after a full charge. I feel like the problem must be on my end, but what could it be? This phone has only been synced with my computer once or twice. I have made NO modifications of any kind to the phone or itunes. Please help! Should I try to exchange this one too?!!

Hey you are not alone Nathan I am on my 4th IPhone and the last one they gave me, The apple store never did a Full Restore I found under settings Calltime of 4 days 21 hours and I had just got the phone the day before I called Apple they told ME to do a Full Restore. lol, there has to be a problem with these Phones Batteries are they not suppose to last more than 5 hours before going RED!!! We have had this problem forever, along with the ever changing MyVerizon Home Page. We can tell when our login is going to fail based upon what user name it greets on the top right-hand side of the page. I continue to post how many logins we can have per day and VZ employees continue to spew the company lie that this is for our protection. The VZ line is that the logouts are to prevent someone else from accessing your account and changing settings. Now we all know how often family members get in and purposely change settings. Perhaps VZ should employ some engineers and programmers who can fix the problem that VZ claims isn't a problem.

You can't merge accounts or copy content to a different account, so anything that you bought or downloaded via the old account is tied to that account - so any updates that those apps get you will only be able to download via that account. You can change which account is logged in on the iPad via Settings > Store

My purpose with this feature is to put album covers and the single artwork together, only if they are the first tracks of whichever album. (Yes, I like to stare at the album covers while listening to music).

I agree - and was glad to see this post and intend to search for more. I vaguely recall some kind of multimedia artwork to replace and extend the idea of the printed album cover being talked about. Was that a standalone package one bought?
Animating covers and album info - some albums I have eg one I just put in itunes - has 87 pages of info - and one track is 70 minutes long. I would like to read that info as it plays (without starting up several other programmes and searching for the docs!)
It is a multimedia environment so why not have an interactive 'now playing' window that plays related videos - pdfs - as well as stills or EVEN! that can actively search (say google images? or tagged info from wherever) for related pictorial content or other info. I have tried dragging pdfs into the artwork box but it wants the pdfs pages made into jpgs first and separated - altho they can ALL be added at once.
Maybe theres already a script to do this stuff?
Sorry to over extend that idea! But really its quite stupid at present not even to be able to see the other stuff one has put in the artwork box - and it even took a while to guess it could be used (as simple as drag and drop..)
