ASA 5500 - How to show network-object host
I am using the following commands to show objects (network-object object <name>) and groups (group-object <groupname>).
sh run object id <name>
sh run object-group id <groupname>
How do I show network-object host <ip> ?
I have about 115 that are on my ASA.
Thank you!

How to show network status in top toolbar?
how to show network status in top toolbar? Network preferences is there, but network status has disappeared on last reset of Airport Express, but may not be connected. Thanks in advance for practical help
Interestingly, in my experience, using the method described above of unchecking the "Show Connected Servers" box in the Finder Preferences makes no difference in what I can put in the sidebar. I was able to move a sub-folder of a shared disk to the Favorites section of the Finder Sidebar, but nothing else. (i.e. I could not add the shard disk itself to the sidebar – either to the devices, favorites, or any other section, and I could only add a subfolder of the shared disk to the favorites section – not to the devices section or any other section). This was the same whether I had "Show Connected Servers" checked or not.
I'm running OS X Mavericks, and the setup I have is with a previous generation Time Capsule (i.e. the short, square kind that you could buy before the most recent taller variety came out last year), with a LaCie 3 TB USB 3.0 external drive plugged into the USB port of the Time Capsule. I'm then accessing this network drive over WiFi. The differences in what I'm seeing may be due to some change they made in the way Mavericks handles these setups.
I could also just be misunderstanding what you're saying, but I thought I'd add this in case anyone else gets similar results so that they'd know they're not alone. Let me know if I'm missing something here. -
ASA 5520: Create Network Object for range of hosts?
Hi,
I'm new to Cisco Firewalling. I'm migrating our network objects from our current firewall to a new ASA 5520 configuration. I'm using ASDM 6.4 for configuration.
We have a range of IP addresses for hosts that we need to add to a firewall rule/ACL. In the previous FW software I could create an object that was a range of IP address. For example there is an object called emailservers that is defined as 192.168.2.25-192.168.2.50.
Is there a way to do a similar thing on the ASA 5520?
I can see how to create subnets, but in this case I only have a range of IP addresses, no subnet mask.
Any help greatly appreciated.Sure there is,
hostname(config)# object network TEST2
hostname(config-network-object)# range 10.1.2.1 10.1.2.70
No need for subnet masks, this will be a Object network, not an Object-group of type network. Now in 8.3 they are a lot different.

How to configure Cisco ASA 5500 to work with the iPhone
We have Cisco ASA 5510 (latest firmware version), and apparently, according to Cisco website it is compatible with new iPhone 3G's IPSec client:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/vpnclient/cisco_vpnclient/iPhone/2.0/connectivity/guide/iphone.html
We've setup our first iPhone properly. It connects fine to the network, shows VPN connection as active. Gets a private IP address. But does not let any traffic go to the internal network. We thought it might be DNS problem, but it cannot connect to Exchange server even when using IP address instead of DNS. No luck either.
After checking ASA logs, we found that iPhone goes through Phase 1 authentication correctly. But then gives some kind of error, mentioning "Attribute 5".
Has anybody been successful configuring ASA5500 series (in particular 5510) to be used with iPhone?
I noticed that many people are having these problems.
Please do not post to this topic if you have ANY OTHER Cisco device.
Cisco specifies that iPhone is compatible only with Cisco ASA 5500 Security Appliances and PIX Firewalls. Neither Cisco IOS VPN routers nor the VPN 3000 Series Concentrators support the iPhone VPN capabilities.
Let's keep this topic only for users of ASA 5500 series and PIX Firewalls.
It would be extremely helpful for a large number of users if somebody posted a list of settings for ASA5500 or PIX firewall that DO work with iPhone 2.0
Thank you!
Oleg RWe found the solution and a bug in Cisco firmware (seems to be a bug).
First of all, thanks to our Chief Systems Architect Seb, here is a config that worked for us on a Cisco 5520 (latest firmware).

We tried to set up this config using the wizards, but it would not work.
Later it turned out that wizards by default set this setting:

equal to zero and there is no way to change it from the GUI.
Only after we changed it (increased the value from 0 to 20) through the command line the connection started working perfectly.
Please let me know how it works out for you.

How to determine the IPS throughput using Cisco ASA 5500 IPS Solution?
Hello there!
I´ve been desinging a solution to protect de Server Farm and I intend to use the ASA 5500 series with AIP-SSM module. There´s any tool to determine the real throughput that I need? I mean, how to determine the performance (Firewall + IPS throughput), what main points I should consinder? If the server farm is running production levels of traffic today you can get statistics off a variety of networking devices passing the existing traffic. Switches, routers and firewalls all count every byte of traffic they pass. There are plenty of tools that can gather this traffic into tables via SNMP too, such as MRTG.
Do not average your traffic over too great a time peroid, you will miss busy hour peaks. At most, use 5 min averages.

How to configure network virtualization in SCVMM 2012 R2 with two host
hi everyone... can you teach me how i configure networking in my infrastructure..
i am getting confuse that i have 2 phisical server, i don't know to set the netwokring in scvmm. Every best practice, i found in internet is using more than 2 physical server.
i have been tried before with the networking which i want..but it failed...
any one help me please...This whitepaper should explain the required steps to get this working.
http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Hybrid-Cloud-with-NVGRE-aa6e1e9a
The whitepaper will use more than two hyper-v hosts, but you'll get the picture.
You can have 1 host to run your NVGRE VMs, while the other host should be dedicated to run the virtualization gateway VMs.

Show clear text pre shared key asa 5500.....
I have read several of the posts on how to show your pre shared keys in clear text. I am in the process of converting a 5520 over to a 5525-x and I got to the point where I need the pre-shared keys
the more system:running-config command does NOT show the clear text of the keys nor does access the file via https:// either.
the 5520 is running Software Version 8.4(2)18
any thoughts how I can wrestle this info out of the asa as I'm not getting anywhere with what seems to have worked for a few others.
Thank in advance
Sincerely
PaulThe command more system:run should show you those keys.
Couple things that I have seen
I have seen it where someone configured pre-shared key by cutting and pasting the key as it is shown when you do a show run, so it was entered as ****. You can check this buy entering a dummy config with a key and then run the more system:run and see if it shows up.
also check the privilege level of your login and make sure it is 15.

Easy way to detect unused network objects/groups on ASA
Hello,
I find that every 6-12 months I will log on to the ASDM and go to the Network Objects/Groups section and spend ages right clicking on each object and seeing if it is still being used and if it isn't I then delete it. It can take a long time as our config is large, are there any better ways of keeping the ASA update to date?
ThanksHello,
I know that this is a very old post, however, starting in ASDM 7.1(3), there is a "Not Used" button in the app. Click it and it will provide you list of objects/groups that are not being used in ACLs. You can then choose which objects to delete (they're all checked by default).
As of 7.1(4), however, there is no such feature for protocols/protocol groups.
Hopefully this helps someone - I know that it saved me a lot of time in a few firewall migration projects!

How can I disable "Show hidden objects" by default?
I've started linking to files on my computer like this, 'Index of file:///Users/michaelo/Dropbox/KN' which works fine apart from the fact that this calls up all the hidden files, which do not want to see by default.
There's a checkbox "Show hidden objects" which will hide these when unchecked. But settings are per folder and of course aren't remembered between sessions.
Is there a way via about:config to hide hidden objects by default?

How we archieve configuration for Cisco ASA 5500 series appliances
Hi,
We need to archieve configuration for Cisco ASA 5500 series appliances.
We have Cisco works LMS 3.0.1.
Device package installed is 4.2
Any help would be appricated.
Thanks in advance.
SamirHi ,
Thanks for your answer.
Right now we are using TACAS to login in to the ASA. That means we need single username and password to login via
Cisoworks. Am I correct ?
Waiting for your reply.
thanks,

Cisco ASA 5505 Routing between internal networks
Hi,
I am new to Cisco ASA and have been configuring my new firewall but one thing have been bothering. I cannot get internal networks and routing between them to work as I would like to. Goal is to set four networks and control access with ACL:s between those.
1. Outside
2. DMZ
3. ServerNet1
4. Inside
ASA version is 9.1 and i have been reading on two different ways on handling IP routing with this. NAT Exempt and not configuring NAT at all and letting normal IP routing to handle internal networks. No matter how I configure, with or without NAT I cannot get access from inside network to DMZ or from ServerNet1 to DMZ. Strange thing is that I can access services from DMZ to Inside and ServerNet1 if access list allows it. For instance DNS server is on Inside network and DMZ works great using it.

Yep, Finnish would be good also =)
In front of ASA is DSL modem, on the trunk ports is Hyper-V host that uses the trunk ports so that every VM has their VLAN ID defined in the VM level. Everything is working good on that end. Also there is WLAN Access Pois on one of the ASA ports, on the WLAN AP there is the management portal address on DMZ that i have been testing agains (192.168.3.4)
If i configure Dynamic PAT from inside to the DMZ then the traffic starts to work from inside to all hosts on DMZ but thats not the right way to do it so no shortcuts =)
Here is the conf now, still doesnt work:

Add network object to access list
Can someone please show me how to add existing network objects to existing access control lists in a network object group using the cli in the asa version 9.x on the inside interface? The source is an already existing network object and the destination is an existing network object group. Thanks.
Hi,
I am not entirely sure of what you are asking.
What I undertood is that you have the following already
An "access-list" that is attached to the "inside" interface
An existing "object network " configured that will be used as the source for the "access-list" rule
An existing "object-group network " configured that will be used as the destination for the "access-list" rule
If the above is true then you would simply configure
access-list permit ip object object-group
The above though would permit all TCP/UDP traffic
If you want to only allow specific ports for either TCP or UDP then you would use the format
access-list permit tcp object object-group eq
access-list permit udp object object-group eq
Naturally if you want to allow multiple ports there would be further ways to group those ports together also inside "object-group" to make the configuration smaller/cleaner.
Please let me know if you were looking for something else and I missunderstood
Hope this helps

ASA 5505 how to create a port forwarding rule
ASA 5505 IOS ver 9.2.3
I need to create a firewall rule that will allow internal services to be accessed externally, but using port forwarding. For example I'd like to enable access to our NAS via ftp external on port 1545 and then have the ASA forward the request to the NAS internally on port 21.
I tried these commands but they didn't work:
object network NAS
host 192.168.2.8
nat (inside, outside) static interface service tcp 21 1545
access-list NASFTP-in permit tcp any object NAS eq 1545
conf t
int vlan 2
access-group NASFTP-in permit tcp any object NAS eq 1545
I really appreciate the help everyone.try this, it worked for me, here is an example of adding a webserver with a ip of 10.10.50.60 and naming it with a object named www-server and forwarding port 80 , the way it works is you need to do three things, u need to "nat it" "foward it" and allow it in "acl"
object network obj-10.10.50.60-1
host 10.10.50.60
nat (inside, outside) static interface service tcp 80 80
object network INSIDE
nat (inside,outside) dynamic interface
object network WWW-SERVER
nat (inside, outside) static interface service tcp 80 80
access-list Outside_access_in extended permit tcp any object WWW-SERVER eq 80
access-group Outside_access_in in interface Outside
