ASA 5505 Site to Site and Web VPN

Hello all, I need to add a site to site tunnel from a an ASA 5505 (ver 8.05) to a Sonic wall appliance. The problem is, the ASA already has remote access VPN and anyconnect VPN configured. I'm not sure if its possible to add another secured tunnel to the device. Ive already got one NAT 0 statement.
Thanks for your expert opinions!

Hi,
There should be no problem adding a Site to Site VPN on the ASA even if it has Client VPN configured.
If you for example have an "inside" interface which has NAT0 configuration like
nat (inside) 0 access-list NAT0
You just add the needed ACL lines to that existing ACL for the L2L VPN.
On the basis of the information you provided I dont see any problem configuring the L2L VPN on the ASA.

  • Cisco ASA 5505 Site to Site VPN Problem

    Hi All,
We have a site to site VPN with a cisco asa 5505 on one end and a Checkpoint firewall on the other end.
We can establish the vpn tunnel and all users in the remote office are working great. However at a random point during the day or it may even be after 2 weeks of working, the tunnel between the sites automatically fails.
When I dial into the modem which is connected to the firewall I see the following messages in the logs:

There is nothing in the Checkpoint logs. To solve the issue I have to reload the firewall.
I have checked both firewalls for any mis-matched parameters and do not see any.
Any help is very much appreciated as it is very frustrating for myself and the users in the remote office.
    Thanks!

  • ASA 5505 Site-to-Site VPN dropping at end of lifetime

I have 4 ASA 5505's with Site-to-Site IPSEC VPN tunnels built between them.  One of the tunnels stays up just fine but the other 2 drop at the end of the SA lifetime for a period of time equal to 10% of the SA lifetime.
Orignially, I had the the lifetime set to 1 hour and the tunnels would drop for 6 minutes.  I changed the lifetime to 8 hours (480 minutes) and they dropped for 48 minutes.  I've gone over the configurations and the only differences I can find is that the sites where the tunnel drops have the outside interface forwarded to an VOIP server and all ports but SIP blocked.

    Can you post the configs?

  • ASA 5505 Site-to-Site VPN not initializing

I have two ASA 5505 running 8.4 and I tried using the VPN wizard and using the CLI but i am not able to get the peers to initialze.  I have looked at other configs and am not seeing what is missing. I have tried packet tracking through the ASDM and its not even seeing the VPN tunnel and keeps trying to go out to the internet.  I have attached both configs for assistance.

I am glad that you figured out the problem and got the tunnel to initialize. Thanks for posting back to the forum and indicating what you found to be the problem and how you fixed it. This is a good reminder of the importance of making sure that the crypto map matches on both ends. Perhaps now you can mark this issue as solved and this would let other readers know that there is a solution to the problem here.

  • Problem with Remote Access VPN on ASA 5505

I am currently having an issue configuring an ASA 5505 to connect via remote access VPN using the Cisco VPN Client 5.0.07.0440 running on Windows 8 Pro x64. The VPN client prompts for the username and password during the connect process, but fails soon after.

Thanks again for your reply, and sorry about the late response, havent gotten back to this issue until just now. I applied the above command as you specified, and unfortunately, it did not resolve the problem. Below are the logs from the VPN Client for the connection + attempted browsing of a network share that is behind the ASA, and the new running configuration.

  • ASA 5505 Connection Limit and TIME_WAIT Freezing Device

My little ASA 5505 is working great and I am quite happy with the purchase now that I've solved a number of the issues we had, thank you all very much for the help.
The next issue I have is rather annoying.  The device appears to be artificially crippled and limited to 10,000 connections.  This isn't a "CPU limit" it's just some fake limit in the device as far as I can tell.
The problem we have is that we are only using around 500-600 connections and CPU usage is only like 25%, and yet the connection count is pegged at 10,000 and locks us out of our network.
I am pretty sure this is because there are a lot of "dead" TIME_WAIT connections hanging around not being used.  In our application we only have the couple hundred connections but they do move around a bit every now and then.
Is there anyway to get the device to ignore the "dead" connections and not count them towards the artificial limit on the device given that it's pretty clear the CPU / etc., is not utilized sufficiently.  These aren't real connections, we only have a couple 100 established, they do just move around a bit however.
We are really only using 500-700 connections according to our servers, the others are just sitting in TIME_WAIT doing nothing.
Anyone had this issue before or can offer solutions or workarounds?

    Hello,
Have you checked the output of 'show conn' and 'show local-host' at a time when the connection count is maxed out? If the ASA is not removing idle connections, you should open a TAC case to have this investigated. Otherwise, the above commands should show you which hosts are maxing out the connections and you can take steps to remediate those problem hosts.
    -Mike

  • Unable to ping device behind Cisco 3750 on the same inside VLAN via Cisco ASA 5505 Anyconnect VPN

    Hi Guys,
I've been stuck with this for the last 2 days, and I thought to try and use Cisco's forum, I setup my home DC, and started having problems once I moved a Cisco 5505 behind a Cisco 1841 router (I wanted to eventually test DMVPN live on the internet,) I was no longer able to ping some devices, then as soon as I introduce a collapsed core/distribution switch, I'm also no longer able to ping the devices behind the Cisco 3750, I've attached a network diagram and the ASA running-config.
Everything seem fine internally with the exception of an intermittent network connectivity with a Citrix NetScaler VPX running on a VMware ESXi.
For some odd reason, I am able to ping the following, with no issues.
    Cisco 3750 SVI (192.168.1.3)
CentOS web server (connected directly to the Cisco ASA 5505)
I have checked and enable the following:
    Nat Exemption
    Sysopt connection permit-vpn
    ACL's
    same-security-traffic permit inter-interface
    same-security-traffic permit intra-interface
Added ICMP in the inspection policy
Packet-capture - Only getting echo requests.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
I believe you have the problem with your no-nat configurations..... you to exempt NAT for the traffic from 172.16.10.0 (Anyconnect VPN pool) to 192.168.1.0/24 (Inside LAN) to make this work
    object network acvpnpool
    subnet <anyconnect VPN Subnet>
    object network insidelan
    subnet <inside lan subnet>
nat (inside, outside) source static acvpnpool acvpnpool destination static insidelan insidelan
Make sure that you are able to reach the GW/Inside ip adress of the firewall from LAN machine.... all routing in place properly..... Thanks!!!
    Regards
    Karthik

  • Cisco ASA 5505 SSL VPN

    Hi Everyone,
In my study home lab, I wanted to configure a cisco ASA 5505 ( Base license) to allow SSL VPN. I follow carefully the configuration procedure as instructed on a short videos I downloaded on youtube.
I configured my outside e0/0 with a valid static IP address, unfortunately the vpn connection is timeout on a remote ( different) internet connection. But if  I connect to my own internet line using a WIFI the VPN ( AnyConnect SSL VPN client ) connection is established.
I need help to solve this mystery. Please find attached the ASA config: #show run
I hope my explaination does make sense, if not accept my apology I am just new in cisco technology.
    Best regards,
    BEN

If you can connect with your own internet line, then most probably it's not an issue with the ASA configuration.
I would check how you are routing the ASA to the internet, and if there is any ACL that might be blocking inbound access to the ASA on the device in front of the ASA.

  • Cisco asa 5505 vpn issue

I have a cisco asa 5505 that I am setting up VPN access too. I have multiple subnets all routed through  a layer 3 switch conected to my asa. My problem is I can ping everything on VLAN1 (192.168.100.0/24) but no other VLANS (10.141.152.0/23 etc.)

Post the config of your ASA and someone will be able to assist.

  • CSM 4.4 depolying Site-to-Site VPN

    All,
I am centrally managing around 100 firewalls and I need to get all this traffic within a VPN tunnel.
My problem is that when I push the deployment and my CSM traffic goes from unencap to encap the session on the outside of the tunnel dies (expected) but CSM never recovers and the deployment fails.
Any info on getting all this working is mucho appreciated.
    TIA,
    JD

The steps you have provided for adding unmanaged devices is the only way of doing the same. For successful VPN discovery, the following prerequisites must be met:
    1) All devices participating in the VPN must be added to the Security Manager inventory.
    2) You must provide Security Manager with some basic information about the VPN. The VPN discovery wizard prompts you for the following information:
-VPN topology (hub and spoke, point to point, full mesh)
-VPN technology (Regular IPsec, IPsec/GRE, GRE dynamic IP, DMVPN, Easy VPN)
-Devices in the VPN and their roles (hub/spoke)
-Source of the VPN configuration. The VPN can be discovered directly from the live network or from Security
    3) Manager's Configuration Archive.
    4) Each device in the VPN must have a crypto map associated with a physical interface.
    5) Each PIX 6.3 or ASA 5505 client device in an Easy VPN topology must have a vpnclient configuration.

  • ASA 5505 - Backup and restore to another device of same model and version

How can I backup the configuration of the ASA 5505 on 8.x and restore it to another ASA 5505 with same version? I have tried to save the running config to a file and then copy it to the new device and use the boot config: filename but it doesn't work. Or is there any other way to try? Thanks.

Thanks Andrew, I had tried it but I was having issues with the fact that I kept both ver 7 and ver 8 of the OS images on the flash. So it booted from the first found (ver 7) and creating confusion for me as the config file was for ver 8.
I noticed that it keeps the 192.168.1.1 IP even though in the config file it has another IP assigned. Is there other things that I need to check that do not change apart the IP address?
    Thanks.

  • ASA 5505 Username and Password

    Hi All,
I am trying to configure an ASA 5505 with a username and password. I set all the pass words:
    password xxxxxxx
    enable password xxxxxxx
    username xxxxxx password xxxxxxx
When I reload the device it prompts me for the username, then the password and it fails and just asks for the username again. I have even tried to delete the username/password combo but it still prompts me for it. When I do password recovery the confreg is 0x00000001. I am no ASA expert and this is getting a bit frustrating.
When I first configured the device and reloaded it, everything worked fine.....once. Upon the second reload it just keeps prompting me.
    Thanks for any help.
    Bill

    Hello Carter,
Hmm, it sounds like a config-register problem.
So when you are in rommon you got to set the confreg to be on 0x41 so you can ignore the startup-config.
Then when you enter to the ASA please do the following:
    enable password cisco
    username password cisco
    config-register 0x01
    wr
    and then finally reload,
    Regards,
    Julio

  • ASA 5505 version 9.1 in extended access-list I can add interface name as destination??

    Hi All,
I'm adding extended ACL on the ASA 5505 version 9.1 and found that in the source or destination field I can specify interface name instead of object, host/network but can't find it documented anywhere and what is the behavior of that?
access-list VOICE_IN extended permit ip object obj-VOICE-LAN interface OUTSIDE
Is it matching the egress interface or what?

Use the interface name rather than IP address to match traffic based
on which interface is the source or destination of the traffic. You must
specify the interface keyword instead of specifying the actual IP
address in the ACL when the traffic source is a device interface. For
example, you can use this option to block certain remote IP addresses
from initiating a VPN session to the ASA by blocking ISAKMP. Any
traffic originated from or destined to the ASA, itself, requires that you
use the access-group command with the control-plane keyword.

  • Problem with ASA 5505 SSL login

I have an ASA 5505 that is hosting a SSL VPN. The user can not login. They receive login error. To the best of their knowledge, this problem started after the office Domain Controller was rebuilt. I have looked on ASA and in AD and cannot seem to trace the issue. Any ideas?

    David,
In order to understand why LDAP is not working run a "debug ldap 255" and then try to login or run a AAA test.
Attach the output to find out the issue.
Please check this out as well, to make sure that you have the correct settings:
