ASA 5510 Not able to route traffic between 2 LAN interfaces
Hi everybody,
I need help to enable traffic between two physical ports on my Cisco ASA 5510. I created access rules and NAT but traffic doe not go from accounting interface to Inside. I am able to access internet from both interfaces. Can someone pin point me in the right direction since I am not an expert in Cisco but has to finish this by the end of the week.
Thank you,
Sigor

Without diving too deep into your config, I noticed a couple of things:
interface Ethernet0/1
description Inside Network
nameif Inside
security-level 90
ip address 192.168.10.1 255.255.255.0
interface Ethernet0/2
description Accounting
nameif Accounting
security-level 100
ip address 20.0.1.1 255.255.255.0
On an ASA, higher security level interfaces are always allowed, by default, to lower security levels, but not the other way around. So, if you want to keep this config, you would need an acl on the Inside interface to allow traffic to go from level 90 to 100:
access-list Inside permit ip any any
access-group Inside in interface Inside
The acl will permit the traffic into either interface (outside or Accounting). As long as you have your other rules set up correctly, this should resolve your issue...
HTH,
John

ASA 5510 not allowing some https traffic
I have 2 ASA 5510's in a failover bundle. I have a weird issue right now, where a site (https) is apparently getting blocked behind the firewall. If I browse to the site, it just spins, then says the page could not be displayed. I can ping the IP address, and I can browse to the http version of the page, but I cannot browse to the https site. If I plug into the DMZ on the outside of the firewall, I can see the page no problem. There is something in the ASA that is blocking it. We certainly allow 443 out, and use https heavily, all the time. It's just this one site, which is weird, because I know ASA's don't do deep packet inspection. Can anyone think of what would be causing this?
Well, we figured this out. It actually wasn't the firewall. It was DNS resolution. This particular site's DNS was all messed up. When I was on the DMZ, I changed to another DNS server, which hadn't updated yet. External DNS tests were all returning either no records or just the generic Network Solutions IP, which would give you a landing page. We used the hosts file to get around it until they fixed their DNS pointers.

How to route traffic between two different interfaces
Hi,
I need to setup a routing between two different interfaces on a host.
Inferface ce1 : 192.168.120.12
Inteface ce2 : 192.168.110.50
Is it possible to add a route which enables the ce2 interface to catch packets from the ce1 interface ?
Regards,
ArminThe problem is a application which is only able to listen on one interface.
To fix this, I have to make all packages visible on one interface. -
ASA 5510 with Cisco 2811 Router Behind it - Not forwarding traffic
Hi all,
Some might know that I have been dealing with an issue where I cannot seem to get forwarded packets to reach their destinations behind an ASA 5510 that has a Cisco 2811 connected directly behind it.
Some examples that work.
I can SSH into the ASA.
I can SSH to the Cisco Routers behind the ASA.
I cannot reach items beind the Cisco Routers.
My Configuration is this (I am sure I included a bunch of info I didn't need to, but I am hoping it'll help!):
I have a static Ip assigned to my Ouside Interface Ethernet 0/1
It has an IP address of 199.195.xxx.xxx
I am trying to learn how to shape network traffic (this is all new to me) via the ASA and the Routers to specific devices.
The Inside Interface on the ASA is 10.10.1.1 255.255.255.252
The Outside Interface on the 2811 is 10.10.1.2 255.255.255.252
I can ping the router from the ASA. I can SSH through the ASA to the router.
BUT I CANNOT ACCESS DEVICES BEHIND THE ROUTER.
So, I wanted to BAM that statement above because I just don't kjnow where the issue is. Is the issue on the router or the ASA, my guess is, the router, but I just don't know.
Here are my configs, helpfully someone can help.
ASA errors on the ASDM when I try and hit resources; specifically a web device behind the ASA and the 2811. It's Ip address 192.168.1.5 it's listening on port 80.Static IP, not assigned via DHCP.

no message-leI ran those commands while I had the nat off on the router and here are the results. note, i didn't make any changes to the ASA as you only said to remove the router RIP which I did and reloaded and no change.
As long as the statements ip nat outside on the Fastethernet 0/0 is off and the ip nat inside is off on the vlan and the overload statement is taken out, I cannot hit the internet.

Using Xserve to route traffic between LANs
A couple of years ago Camelot posted a response on how to set up an Xserve to route network traffic between the Xserve's internal NICs (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1193839&tstart=127). In that situation, both LANs were 192.168.x.x. Can this same technique be used where one LAN is 192.168.x.x and the other LAN is 172.16.x.x or do the first two octets have to be the same for this to work? Addresses on the 172.16 are dished out from a Cisco PIX501 which I don't control. The Xserve has a fixed IP of 172.16.128.241 (DHCP with manual address) on en0. The 192.168 LAN is on en1 and the XServe does the DHCP for that side. NAT is on with IP forwarding. I can get to systems on the 172.16 LAN from the 192.168 LAN but not vice versa.
Xserve is running Server 10.5.4Can this same technique be used where one LAN is 192.168.x.x and the other LAN is 172.16.x.x or do the first two octets have to be the same for this to work?
You can route between any connected networks. There doesn't have to be any common elements in the IP address subnets.
I can get to systems on the 172.16 LAN from the 192.168 LAN but not vice versa.
You say you're running NAT on this system. NAT is not needed (or, in fact, desired) since it's designed for one way traffic (e.g. traffic from LAN 1 is translated to an address in LAN2 before forwarding). To have traffic flow the other way you need to setup port forwarding, which isn't practical for a large number of machines.
My earlier suggestion doesn't suggest enabling NAT at all, just IP Forwarding. IP Forwarding should work both ways provided the relevant devices in each LAN know where to route the traffic (e.g. devices in the 192.168.x.x LAN need to have a route that sends traffic for 172.16.x.x to the 192.168.x.x address of the XServe). -
Not able to connect to internet usig LAN
hiii
i have domain network which is connected through LAN for all the user machines now suddenly what happened we don't know all the machines are not able to connect to internet and domain also.
help me to get out of this problem
thanks in advance
with regard's
haasan
thanks & regrds sri ramHi
I think we need bit more information regarding this issue.
You've said machines are not able to connect to Internet and Domain. Two different things are you not able to log on to the domain with your domain user accounts.
Are the Domain Controllers are up and running or have you checked if your switchs are working properly.
Please update with the above then we can help further.
Thanks

Not able to telnet or ssh to outside interface of ASA and Cisco Router
Dear All
Please help me with following question, I have set up testing lab, but still not work.
it is Hub and spoke site to site vpn case, connection between hub and spoke is metro-E, so we are using private ip for outside interface at each site.
Hub -- Juniper SRX
Spoke One - Cisco ASA with version 9.1(5)
spoke two - Cisco router with version 12.3
site to site vpn has been successful established. Customer would like to telnet/ssh to spoke's outside ip from Hub(using Hub's outside interface as source for telnet/ssh), or vise versa. Reason for setting up like this is they wants to be able to make configuration change even when site to site vpn is down. Sound like a easy job to do, I tried for a long time, search this forum and google too, but still not work.
Now I can successfully telnet/ssh to Hub SRX's outside interface from spoke (ASA has no telnet/ssh client, tested using Cisco router).
Anyone has ever done it before, please help to share your exp. Does Cisco ASA or router even support it?
When I tested it, of cause site to site vpn still up and running.
Thanks
YKHello YK,
On this case on the ASA, you should have the following:
CConfiguring Management Access Over a VPN Tunnel
If your VPN tunnel terminates on one interface, but you want to manage the ASA by accessing a different interface, you can identify that interface as a management-access interface. For example, if you enter the ASA from the outside interface, this feature lets you connect to the inside interface using ASDM, SSH, Telnet, or SNMP; or you can ping the inside interface when entering from the outside interface. Management access is available via the following VPN tunnel types: IPsec clients, IPsec LAN-to-LAN, and the AnyConnect SSL VPN client.
To specify an interface as a mangement-only interface, enter the following command:
hostname(config)# management access management_interface
where management_interface specifies the name of the management interface you want to access when entering the security appliance from another interface.
You can define only one management-access interface
Also make sure you have the pertinent configuration for SSH, telnet, ASDM and SNMP(if required), for a quick test you can enable on your lab Test:
SSH
- ssh 0 0 outside
- aaa authentication ssh console LOCAL
- Make sure you have a default RSA key, or create a new one either ways, with this command:
*crypto key generate rsa modulus 2048
Telnet
- telnet 0 0 outside
- aaa authentication telnet console LOCAL
Afterwards, if this works you can define the subnets that should be permitted.
On the router:
!--- Step 1: Configure the hostname if you have not previously done so.
hostname Router
!--- aaa new-model causes the local username and password on the router
!--- to be used in the absence of other AAA statements.
aaa new-model
username cisco password 0 cisco
!--- Step 2: Configure the router's DNS domain.
ip domain-name yourdomain.com
!--- Step 3: Generate an SSH key to be used with SSH.
crypto key generate rsa
ip ssh time-out 60
ip ssh authentication-retries 3
!--- Step 4: By default the vtys' transport is Telnet. In this case,
!--- Telnet and SSH is supported with transport input all
line vty 0 4
transport input All
*!--- Instead of aaa new-model, the login local command may be used.
no aaa new-model
line vty 0 4
login local
Let me know how it works out!

Cisco ASA 5505 not able to access flash
Hi All:
I have searched and searched all over the net for an answer to this question and have decided to just post it. I have a 5505 that was given to me by my job to use for working on my CCNA Sec. cert and did the following:
I plugged it in and booted it up just fine. Made config changes as I followed along with the examples in my CCNA Security book. Got to the point in chapter 14 where the initial setup happens to configure it for working with ASDM. I never did a write mem on it and decided to take it back to square one by unplugging it to allow it to lose the changes that I made. This is where things got ugly.
When it booted back up it got stuck in a bootup loop and couldn't find an IOS. After following all kinds of steps to boot to rommon and tftp another IOS and such (several times) I decided to follow another posting that said that the flash could be corrupted and to just delete it and start anew. Did that and through rommon as it would not boot up normally any more. After trying this over and over for the last couple hours I realized that it would boot from tftp so I did that in hopes of fixing the flash issue.
I've tried deleting it, and re-initializing it and formating it. But the thing is that it no longer SEES the disk0: mount point. I've used two different flash cards...the one that came with it and the one that I already had. With the cover off I can see that there is no activity light next to the flash drive when I issue a delete or initialize or format command.
Here is a copy of some of the output file. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Home Sharing works, but not able to transfer files between PCs.
I have two laptops at home, one is an old one I keep dedicated to my Apple TV 2nd Gen. (so I don't have to have my laptop on, or my wife can use the ATV if I'm at work w/ my laptop, etc.)
Anyway, I sync all my media between both computers so when my laptop is not home, ATV still has full media function (as does my laptop). Used to be able to connect via Home Sharing and there was a drop-down menu with an option at the bottom of the Library to show only those files not in my library. I would use that function to transfer all recently added media to the ATV laptop. Since upgrading to iTunes 10, that dropdown menu is nowhere to be found. Any ideas?
I can still connect and play media through Home Sharing, but if my primary laptop leaves the range of the network, the new media content on it can't be accessed on ATV. Primary laptop is Windows 7, ATV-dedicated lap is on Windows XP.
Was the ability to transfer files through Home Sharing lost between iTunes 9 and 10 or did this feature just get moved somewhere else? If it was lost, how can I revert back to iTunes 9? If nothing else, I can just transfer via an external HD, but was just very convenient and easy through Home Sharing...
Thanks for any input!

What error message do you get ?
did the connection time out ?

Not able to do transformation between two schemas
I have this two very similar schemas, I tried to do a transform activity between them. I kept getting error says 'Failed to save XSL Map, Make sure XSL Map is valid'. I am not even able to map a single element.
This two schemas are generated from 'Define Native Format schema' using the same sample file. most of elements have same name and type in both files.
Here is how they look like:

Not able to back up VDI from web interface
Dear all,
i have setup three servers as VDI primary and two secondaries.
in VDI 3.2.1, you can backup VDI core using backup button available on web interface.
i am unable to backup VDI it is showing error. error is unable to read NFS share.
i specified localhost as server and /var/tmp path to backup but it is not working. also there is one storage pool for virtual box VM's. by default on backup wizard it is selecting storage pool path. but is also failed.
what can be the reason.
thanksSee this thread - NFS share on VBox provider

Having issues on ASA 5510 pass traffic between interfaces
I am trying to pass traffic between two internal interfaces but am unable to. Been searching quite a bit and have tried several things to no avail. I feel like there is a simple solution here I am just not seeing. Here is the relevant portion of my config:
interface Ethernet0/1

On both networks I am able to access the internet, just not traffic between each other.

Action: allowhow are you testing? if you are pinging between the subnets, make sure you have disabled windows firewall and/or any other firewall that is installed on the PCs (remember to re-enable it later).
Are the NAT commands there because you were trying different things to get this working? I suggest you use the command no nat-control instead. Depending on the version of ASA you are running it may already be disabled by default. In version 8.4 and later nat-control has been removed completely.

ASA appears to randomly stop forwarding/routing traffic
Hi guys, got a curly one -
Our ASA appears to randomly stop forwarding traffic between interfaces. Traffic does not forward for several minutes, then it starts again. After a while the traffic stops again for a few minutes, and the cycle repeats.
If you are on a directly connected network you can still ping the ASAs local interface (I have ICMP turned on for testing). However you cannot ping the ASA from any remote network. I can ping or trace all the way up to the last hop without an issue. You also cannot ping across the ASA to servers on the other side, even from the immediate next hop (which as I mentioned above, still works) .
This would appear to point to a routing problem? Strangely, routing still functions for the management network - I have had no problems reaching the command line from elsewhere in the network.
Has anyone encountered something similar to this before?

Howto control/filter traffic between VRF-(lite) using route leaking?
Hi,
does anybody know how I can control/filter the traffic between two vrf when I use route leaking or also normal route target export/import connections, maybe with an acl, in the following scenarios?
Scenario 1:
I use a normal MPLS network with several PE routers (maybe ASR series) which connect to the CE routers via OSPF. Two VPNs are configured on the PE routers and I want one of PE routers to allow/route traffic between these VPNs but especially traffic on tcp port 80 and no other ports. I'm only aware of bindung acls to logical or physical interfaces but I don't know how to do this here.
Scenario 2:
Same as scenario 1 but not the PE router will connect the VPN but a separate router-on-a -tick (e.g. 4900M) which is connected to one of the PE routers should do this job with vrf-lite and route leaking (address-family ipv4 vrf ...). Also here I want only to allow tcp port 80 between the vpns
Kind Regards,
ThorstenThanks.
That's what I was assuming. In my experience this solution does not scale with increasing number of vpn and inter vpn traffic via route target.
Is it correct that there is only one common acl per vpn where all rules for the communication to all other vpns are configured? Doesn't this acl become too complex and too error-prone to administrate in a real network environment? Further on in my understanding this acl has to be configured per vpn on all pe routers which have interfaces to ce routers for that vpn.
Does cisco offer software for managing this? -
ASA5505 - Blocking internal traffic between 2 servers
Hi guys/ladies
I have a cisco ASA5505, it runs a wide site to site VPN network and has 4 servers connected to it
10.50.15.4 > fileserver
10.50.15.5 > domain controller (exchange)
10.50.15.6 > terminal server
10.50.15.7 > terminal server
Now yesterday i removed 10.50.15.6 and replaced it with a new terminal server with the same ip address, ever since the ASA is blocking traffic between it and the domain controller (example)

Oct 27 2012

55978
DNS
Deny inbound UDP from 10.50.15.6/55978 to 10.50.15.5/53 due to DNS Query
What has me baffled is the only thing different between today and yesterday is the new server is windows server 2008 and the old one was windows server 2003. The new server has the same LAN ip address as the old one to make the changeover seamless for the users.
Any idea why all the sudden my ASA has decided to block the traffic between those machines? all the other machines can talk to it fine just not the domain controller, and seeing that this is a terminal server naturally you can see the problem i face!
Any help you can give would be great as this router has worked flawlessly for 2 years now without any config changes and i cant work out why its blocking traffic between those 2 machines.Result of the command: "show cap asp | include 10.50.15.6"
