ASA5505 emits a very high pitched noise

We just got a new 5505 1 week ago. Upon plugging it in it has a very high pitched noise. Similar to the sound you get when your ears are ringing or a cricket but its constant.
This drives us nuts. Any ideas what it can be since there's no fan or moving parts I can't figure it out.

sounds like the switch mode power supply isn't running fully.
does it do it if you just plug the PSU in but don't connect it to the ASA? or is it just under load of the ASA being connected?
either way id put in for a replacement as its not good

  • X-fi Extreme Music - Mouse making high pitched noise when moved

? Whenever I move my mouse my headphones make a very high pitched noise. I moved my mouse to all usb ports and it still happens, cant change my IRQ in bios and vista has them all locked out from being changed. I also have my X-fi as far away as possible from my video card. I have no idea whats doing this but i need some help.
    Specs are as follows
    P5Q-PRO
    Q6600 @ 3.48GHZ
    4GB Mushkin @ 078
X-fi Extreme Music ***Lastest [email protected]

I've never had pictures of the mod, as it is it wouldn't show up vey well in a photograph, not to mention that every front panel board is different from one manufacturer to another. Mine came with my Gigabyte Aurora case, but Gigabyte probably didn't manufacture the circuit board itself.
I had the noise problem when I first tried out my new Bose headphones with it and knew I needed to fix it. The main issue is the metal mounting studs that attach the board to the case front cause a ground loop with the grounds coming in from the sound card, as well as the motherboard USB headers. Having all these grounds just connected together like that is the root of the problem. By far the worst issue is the studs being connected to the foils on the board. Scraping the foil off the board where it makes contact with the studs will probably fix most of the noise. Next, cutting a gap in the foils between the incoming grounds from the sound card and USB headers will clean up more noise. If properly done, and all plugs removed from their headers, there will be an OPEN connection between any one ground wire and another, as well as there will be an OPEN between the chassis (case) and any of the ground wires. The ground wires coming from the headers should show a good connection to their appropriate socket ground on the front panel, but again, an OPEN between each other.

  • WRT330N High Pitched Noise

    Hey everyone,
I just today recieved my WRT330N Gaming Router from Newegg and ever since I hooked it up I am hearing a VERY high pitched noise constantly coming from the router. I've even tested putting my ear up to it and unplugging it to make sure it was the router that was causing the problem. Everything else on the router works great but this noise is really starting to annoy me! Before I purchased this router I had a WRT54GS and never had a problem with it.
I've tried searching to see if anyone else has experienced this but have come up empty handed. Should I exchange this one for a new one, or get my money back? Has anyone ever heard of this happening?
    Thank you.

    @ Klatch
I tried all of your suggestions  previously but they didn't work. I ended up sending it back to Newegg today for replacement. I'm REALLY hoping it was just a problem with that specific unit because if it's not I'll have to return it for my money back. The noise was just so bad...

  • Power Mac G4 MDD 1.25GHz DP often completely locks up in the first few minutes after booting, sometimes with the spinning beach ball, normally with a very high pitched whining noise.

Over the last few months my Mac has developed a worrying habit.
Within the first few minutes of starting it up (perhaps on average about 50% of the time) it will completely lock up. This may happen at the Log In screen (if I start up the Mac & then leave it for a while) or during normal use.
Often the first symptom is a very high pitched (but quiet) whining noise that seems to come from the loud speaker on the front of the Mac. The pointer may freeze at this point, or it may still be moveable for 5 or 10 seconds before it freezes. It sometimes turns into the spinning beach ball during this. Once locked up the only way I can restart the Mac is to hold down the power button on the front for a few seconds to completely reboot the machine.
Once the Mac has restarted, it usually behaves normally, almost always for the rest of the day. The initial lock up & resulting restart only normally seem to happen the first time I use the Mac that day.
The only peripherals attached to the Mac (apart from the display, keyboard & mouse) are an ADSL modem, a USB printer and a pair of Apple Pro speakers, and this setup hasn't changed since long before the problems started, so I'm confident that I can discount the peripherals causing problems. I doubt that unplugging the speakers, for example, would have any effect.
I've run Disc Utility, OnyX and DiscWarrior without anything major cropping up. My instincts (I've been troubleshooting Mac problems for 16 years) tell me that I have a fundamental hardware problem, possibly with one of the 4 RAM DIMMs installed.
The RAM configuration is shown in the attached screen grab.
I'm considering removing one DIMM, running with 1.5GB of RAM rather than 2GB for a while, and repeating with a different DIMM removed each time until I can hopefully isolate the dodgy DIMM.
Do people feel this is a sensible approach, or should I try something else first?
    Many thanks.

Sometimes visual inpection will show bulging tops/sides., my guess is if it is it's most likely in the PSU.
Possible cheap fix, You can convert an ATX PSU for use on a G4...

  • High pitch noise in CS4 and CS5.5

    Hello.
Firstly I want to say that yes I know people have asked this question before but as far as I can tell none of them have been solved. Some have somewhat useful answers but none of them truely solve the problem. This thread in particular probably has the most information about the problem I'm having http://forums.adobe.com/message/4298535#4298535
I recently tried Premiere Pro CS5.5 and CS4 (trial version) to replace my Corel Video Studio X6 which tried to replace Windows Movie Maker. Video Studio and Movie Maker both crash whenever I imported large video files.
Anyway I'm getting a problem where the video files I import to Premiere Pro CS4 and CS5.5 have a high pitch noise in the video preview.
It's a high pitch noise almost like it's getting feedback from something. Also when someone is supposed to be talking there's a very low distortion, like the audio started playing in very slow motion but the high pitch noise is still present.
I'll put a link at the end with the video file that's giving me trouble.
The video and audio are in a single AVI file. The video format is H264 shot at 60fps and the audio should be Mpeg-1 L2, 48khz at 320kbps. I don't know if the video's audio is in 24bit or 16bit.
I've tried different settings for premiere. Trying 60fps and 30fps for the framerate for the project. Trying 44khz and 32khz and 96khz didn't fix it. Using the "Desktop" preset in CS4 and Custom for CS5.5.
My audio hardware is a Logitech G930. It's a wireless USB headset with microphone. My motherboard audio is Realtek HD Audio. Both are enabled but I only use the headset now and nothing is being sent to the Realtek audio chip (according to Windows' sound options). The headset plays audio at 16bit 48khz.
The video file plays fine in every media program I own that can play the h264 codec. With the exception of Movie Maker and Video Studio x6. Video Studio will preview the video and audio just fine but when I try and skip around the program hangs and crashes. Movie Maker just plain crashes when I try and import the video. Some of the programs that can play the video are VLC, Media Player 11, and Media Player Classic.
I'm not sure if Final Cut Pro has the same problem. I don't have a Mac so I can't test it.
Here's a sample video that works the way it should. I pulled a BIK file from a game and converted it to H264 in AVI. Not sure what it's audio format is.
    http://www.mediafire.com/watch/15fr85n78xfu94x/Opening_Cinematic_Placeholder.avi
Just click the download button at the top right.
Here's an afflicted file. Not the exact specific file I have been talking about, but it has the same codecs. This one is shorter in length and smaller in size. It still has the high pitch noise, but since there is no one talking in this you don't hear the weird low pitch distortions.

Just click the download button at the top right.
If there's anymore infor you need let me know.
    Thanks.

    >single AVI file. The video format is H264
H.264 will not work inside an AVI wrapper http://forums.adobe.com/thread/854115
-Insignia camera uses H.264 to either AVI... SOME to MOV wrapper
-so use the MOV wrapper if YOUR Insignia camera offers that option
-Says VLC will convert in reply #6 http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1172956

As Jim said, not within the design specifications because it is non-standard video

  • On my iphone 4s I got a scratch on it,then about a month later there are verticle lines and a high pitch noise til it is done focusing. What's wrong with my phone?

    Hello
Okay so I have had my Iphone for almost an entire year and there's a problem. I have gotten a scratch a scratch about a month ago on the back camera. It's at the very bottom. I've gotten used to it so it doesn't bother me. Well ever since like a week ago my camera gets colorful lines that are verticle and go away when it's focused. Not to mention the high pitch noise while it focuses with the lines. I'm getting irritated with it. Mainly what's is wrong with my phone?! Also how much is the cost?

Since we can't examine your phone, we really have no idea what is wrong.  Why don't you make an appointment at your local Genius Bar and get the phone examined and what your options are moving forward.

  • Very high pitch sound on new Quad

    Just got my Quad yesterday
Everything is good, except that it has a very high pitch sound that is very annoying and it hurts my ears in the long run.
I disconnected the HD and superdrive to see if I could locate the source, but it is still there.
I thought about pulling the gpu (6600 256MB), but I don't know if the Quad will start up without a gpu.
I thought the 6600 was supposed to be with a fan, but all I see is black cooling ribs.
Any others with this sound ?
Its not a fan noise, and not a pump noise. It is like a 'electronic' whine.

I have sensitive hearing and noticed something similar when I got my 2.5GHz liquid-cooled G5. It was a constant sound and believe it was coming from the cooling pump. Does your sound ever vary? Try running System Load and see if you can get it to vary.

  • EMac high pitched noise

Hi. I have a 1GHZ eMac G4 that I got second hand several months ago. Recently, I've noticed that there is a high pitch noise that it makes when I first turn it on or wake it from sleep. This noise only lasts for a minute or so, but it is very high in pitch. I don't think it is the hard drive because I know what a failing hard drive sounds like, but I can't be sure. Could it possibly be a capacitor problem? Does anyone know of this issue and how I could get it resolved? Thanks.

  • To Apple Engineer. I hear a high pitch noise when surf flash-intesive sites

    Hi. All.
I have a Aluminum PowerBook G4 1.25Ghz SD. I agree this is a great machine. It has a somewhat out-dated G4 Chip in it, I can do almost everything I need.
I've been using this powerbook for 2 years. Since sometime ago, I've heard very annoying "Hige Pitch Noise" from PowerBook. From further investigatin I found that this was a problem related to G4 CPU Processor throttling- so called "NAP" status. In Flash-intensive Web site, I clearly hear the noise.
According to solution suggested by talented apple user, I did followings.
    1. Download or Install Developer Tools.
    2. Download and Install CHUD tools from ftp://ftp.apple.com/developer/ToolC...ormancetools/
    3. After installing chud tools, there maybe Processor pane in preference app.
    4. In that processor pane, you should uncheck "Allow Nap" to reduce the notorius High Pitch Noise.(warning: it may increase the power consumption and temperature of CPU a bit, and of course you would see more frequent activities of CPU fan than before)
    5. feel the silence.
    To Apple.
I think this solution should be suggested from you not users.
Why we investigate, search the web for thosand of bucks PowerBook. Please fix this annoying(yes, annoying enough to cause headache) problem in next OS update.
    To readers.

  • N95 - High pitch noise (hiss) and GPS struggling t...

    Hi Guys.
Since I bought my N95 I can hear a hiss even when I'm not on call (all the time) and I bought Nokia Maps Navigation and it just worked once (a fews minutes after I bought this service). Now it's not working anymore (I've paid for 1 month service and it worked for a few minutes)...
Are those common issues? I read someone complaining about a high pitch noise (and saying that he had to change his phone more than once so it finally was replaced for a non-faulty one).
    Any help appreciated...
    Regards,
    Daniel

I do not know, people just get unlucky, I think. As I said, mine has had no problems whatsoever since I bought it in April. None at all. No noise (yes, no noise at all) no flimsy slider, no problems with GPS, nothing. My experience is that most people who have troubles had a phone 'made in Nokia' (meaning some third world country with slave child labour)whilst every decent working phone is made in Finland, where it should be!
Check where yours is made in.
I must dissagree with you .. Mine is Made in Finland .. it came in grey box .. not the white one .... Mine has High pitch noise .... And about the High Pitch Noise you should know that not all ppl can hear it .. I have some friends that do not hear it at all .. others can hear it only with one of the ears .. others .. like me can hear it loud and clear ....
Perheps I should damage my hearing so I will not be able to hear this annoying high pitch noise
Well, my hearing is fine! I honestly do not have any high pitch noise or anything. I gave the phone to 7 of my friends and they could not hear anything either. I do not know, perhaps you got unlucky. But you are one of the very few with a phone made in Finland that I am aware of having troubles...

  • Airport Extreme - high pitched noise and no function

    Hi all
My Airport extreme stopped working last night and just now emits a high pitched noise when the power is connected and there are no lights on the front (amber or green)
Has anyone else had this happen to them and is there any way to solve this without taking it back? Have only had this approximately 2 months.
Any help would be gratefully received!

    Hi falloutphil,
When I bought my iMac, I had the store install more ram for me. It would restart all by itself. Then it would shut off. I can't remember a noise but after I was on the phone with apple tech, he wanted me to drop off the mac at a apple dealership. If you bought ram from someone else other than apple, it needs to be pushed in a little bit further. When you swing the two white thingys closed, push the ram in just a little bit. Before you do that, run the apple hardware test. I bought my iMac from JR's and when I reviewed the system log, the hardware test failed and they still sent it to me anyway. this just happened in July. My iMac has been running beautiful since then. but I will never buy anything from JR's store again.

  • A high pitched noise...

I've recently noticed that my 3rd Gen ipod is making a high pitched kind-of whizzing noise when it's in use. It started out doing it just when it was being updated so, I didn't think much of it. Now, it's doing it all of the time. It's never done this because so, I don't really know what to do about it.

I swear I'm not a dog but when using my Facebook app, my Yahoo IM app, and just having the home screen on, I get a very noticeable high pitched noise from the speakers. Tried a hard restart, still same thing. Goes away when screen goes to sleep, then comes back when back on after a minute.
Will bring it in, just wondering if I'm going to get the crazy look from the Genius at a noisy store who likely won't be able to hear....

  • Power adapter making a high pitched noise

    Hi,
I was wondering if it is normal for my power adapter to be making a high pitched noise constantly. The noise stops or lessens very briefly when the computer is doing something (i.e. switching web pages) but, otherwise, it is constant. It is a really annoying high pitched whine. If this is not normal, what can I do about it. Do I need another one? Will Applecare cover it? Thanks!

Whereas I am not sure if this is normal, I figured I'd add that I see a similar problem happening on my power adapter.
I noticed on mine that it only makes the sound when the magsafe LED is green, if it's charging the battery it does not happen.
This started only about 2 weeks ago.

  • High pitched noise when recording w/ M-Audio Producer USB Microphone

    hello,
I have an M-Audio Producer USB Microphone. Recording with GarageBand, nothing else connected, using an the Apple AC power cord (three pronged ground).
When I record with it plugged into the USB port closest to my FireWire port there is a constant high pitched noise.
When I record with it plugged into the USB port furthest from the FireWire port there is no noise at all (as it should be).
What's wrong with my USB port closest to the FireWire?

I am having major problems with iMovie (and iDVD) ever since I upgraded to OS.X.10.5.6. I had to scrap my last promo-video. I am now recreating it very gingerly saving as I go but I am now stuck again. I am getting the digital audio screeching under my video clips when I extract the audio and under insert titles and transitions. Does this describe your 'crickets'?
I have clean video and audio signal from my camcorder. Check your cam' playback to verify. After three attempts I do have clean material in iMovie but cannot proceed until I resolve this issue. I ruined my last video when I extracted the audio and ended up with a garbled rumble which I could not reverse.
I have another question elsewhere regarding burning to DVD but I now need to resolve this before I can get to test the recommendations in the reply.
I hope I have helped focus your symptoms. I also hope there is an answer out there for this issue.
    BTW, Canon ZR-60 Firewire
    Cheers,
    Denny

  • Satellite U500 - High pitched noise

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite U500 and the system itself seems to be working perfectly well. About a month ago, my laptop began to make a noise, an unbearable constant high pitched noise. The only time that the noise stops is when the laptop is off and for a very brief period when windows starts up.
The noise seems to come from the speakers, but it continues whether I mute the speakers or not*.

    Hi
    > How to disconnect HDD to check what you suggest.
You can only remove it from the HDD bay the HDD bay is placed at the bottom of the unit and you have to remove the screw which secures the HDD bay cover.
Then you could remove the HDD carefully
But without HDD you are not able to boot into windows and as you already said you have discovered the issue. It seems to come from the speakers and its related to sound card.
Maybe you should update the sound card driver and BIOS
