I am new to this SQL Server Documentation process and I have been assigned to document our servers. My question is what information and specifications of the servers should be included in the process. I am supposed to put it in excel sheets and then

Oracle.sql.DATE documentation also missing

Thanks for the documentation of jbo.domain.Date, but it was not enough.
I need to know how to use the toDate method, but it seen to be described in the superclass
oracle.sql.DATE that was also missing in documentation.
I have searched at OTN docs, but it's also missing there.
There is some place where this documentation is stored in OTN, since could be others classes missing.

I'm trying to set a date value and keep getting a ClassCastException:
rsaDemandException is a ScrollableRowsetAccess object
"StartDate" is a valid Date type column in the DemandException view object
newDate is a Date object of the various types I have tried below
The line that causes an exception to be thrown:
rsaDemandException.setColumnValue("StartDate", newDate);
I've tried the following objects for newDate
java.util.Date;
java.sql.Date;
java.sql.Timestamp;
oracle.sql.DATE;
oracle.jbo.domain.Date;
None of them work. They all throw a class cast exception.
Any hints on what I need to do? Or is this some bug?

Hi,
for our databases, we use schemaspy to create simple documentation.
Is there a tool, maybe opensource/freeware, to create a documention for SQL server?
I'd like to have something like this:
- Version
- RAM
- Settings like maxmemory
- OS version
- etc
And it should run like a script, without looking inside the sql-server.

A stored function can be invoked in many ways.which invocation is not valid for a stored function? 1-Execute the stored function within a client side function
2-Execute the stored function within a INSERT statement
3-Execute the stored function within a CHECK Constraint of a table

A question about the impact of SQL*PLUS SERVEROUTPUT option on v$sql

Actually I define three variables in SQL*Plus in order to store sid, serial# and prev_sql_id columns from v$session in order to be able to use them later, several times in different other queries, while I'm still working in the current session.
So, here is how I proceed
SET SERVEROUTPUT ON; -- I often activate this option as the first line of almost all of my SQL-PL/SQL script files
SET SQLBLANKLINES ON;
VARIABLE mysid NUMBER
VARIABLE myserial# NUMBER;

the column prev_sql_id includes the sql_id of the last sql statement executed for the given sid and serial# which in the case of my example, it will be the above mentioned SELECT query on the employees table. As a result, right after the SELECT statement on the employees table I run the following

After a bit googling I found the following thread on the OTN forum where it had been suggested (well I think maybe not exactly for the same problem) to turn off SERVEROUTPUT.

This was precisely what I did
SET SERVEROUTPUT OFFafter that I repeated the whole procedure and this time everything worked pretty well as expected. I checked SQL*Plus documentation for SERVEROUTPUT
and also v$session page, yet I didn't find anything indicating that SERVEROUTPUT should be switched off whenever views such as v$sql, v$session
are queired. I don't really understand the link in terms of impact that one can have on the other or better to say rather, why there is an impact

SET SERVEROUTPUT ON has the effect of executing dbms_output.get_lines after each and every statement. Not only related to system view.
Here below what Tom Kyte is explaining in this page:
Now, sqlplus sees this functionality and says "hey, would not it be nice for me to dump this buffer to screen for the user?". So, they added the SQLPlus command "set serveroutput on" which does two things
1) it tells SQLPLUS you would like it <b>to execute dbms_output.get_lines after each and every statement</b>. You would like it to do this network rounding after each call. You would like this extra overhead to take place (think of an install script with hundreds/thousands of statements to be executed -- perhaps, just perhaps you don't want this extra call after every call)
2) SQLPLUS automatically calls the dbms_output API "enable" to turn on the buffering that happens in the package.Regards.

Load multiple records in 1 table from 1 line in text file w/sql loader

hi guys,
quick question, perhaps someone can help. searched around and didn't see this question asked before, and can't find any answer in SQL Loader faqs or docs.
i know i can extract multiple logical records from a single physical record in the input file as two logical records, and then use two into tables clauses to load the data into the table. see oracle 9i sql loader control file reference chapter 5 to see what i am talking about.
but my question follows:
cust_id amount1_val amount1_qual amount2_val amount2_qual amount3_val amount3_qual
123 1500.35 TA 230.34 VZ 3045.50 TW
basically i want to use one sql loader statement to load these 3 records into 1 table. the issue for me is that i need to re-use the cust_id for all 3 records as the key, along with the qualifier code. the example in the Oracle docs only works for data where the logical records are completely separate -- no shared column values.
i'm sure this is possible, perhaps using some :cust_id type parameter for the 2nd and 3rd records, or something, but i just don't have enough knowledge/experience with sql loader to know what to do. appreciate any help.
