Windows 2008 R2 clustering with two nodes:
somehow, when the cluster was created, there are two IP resources in the cluster group.
one is for ipv6 and another one is IPv4 (up and running). ipv6 resource failed. the cluster is
running fine. Even we unchecked TCP/IPv6, the failed ipv6 reource still shows up.
Can you just delete this ipv6 since we do not use it?

We do not recommend that you disable IPv6 or its components, or some Windows components may not function.
Failover Cluster Manager is streamlined for the most common case (in which customers do not type in a 128-bit static IPv6 address). So, when the networks are configured automatically,
what it means is that the cluster will automatically randomly generate IPv6 addresses for the IPv6 Address resources on the networks.
If you prefer to select your own statically assigned IPv6 addresses, you can reconfigure the IPv6 Address resources using command-line tools (either cluster
PowerShell cmdlets or cluster.exe).
For name resolution, if you prefer not to use dynamic DNS, you can configure DNS mappings for the address automatically generated by the cluster, or you can configure DNS
mappings for your static address, depending on which way you choose to go. Cluster IPv6 Address resources do not support DHCPv6.

Hi. I would like to know your opinions on what the best resolution to use is prior to building a website in GoLive.
Is it best to design a site that would fit a monitor screen thats 1024 x 768, considering that 1024 x 768 is probably the most common resolution people use?
Or should I go higher and design my site at a 1280 x 1024 resolution, which is what I've set my monitor to display that I'm currently using, although
it's not as common a resolution that most people use...and people with monitors that do not support resolutions higher than 1024 x 768 will have to scroll
to the right to see the full webpage?
Or am I overanalyzing this too much, considering that flatscreen monitors are the current trend, and most of those are capable of displaying a 1280 x 1024 resolution, and I'd simply need to add a little message at the top of my site that reads "this site is best viewed at 1280 x 1024 resolution"?

Well, let me ask your advice on this then. I've been designing my website in Golive basically by setting up a grid, and placing transparent gifs where I want them to go, with a frame on the left for the menu.
My website is a unique custom tribal store in which I create and sell all sorts of cool things..
I have been designing my website to view fully on a 1024 x 768 resolution. Since I am not using a liquid css layout, if you view my website at 1280 x 1024 resolution, you will see a white column on the right where the website ends at 1024 x 768. To illustrate what I am referring to, here are the examples;
viewed at 1024 x 768, it's perfect.
but viewed at 1280 x 1024, herein lies the problem.
So, what is your advice on how I should go about laying out my website so that it will scale to view fully on a 1280 x 1024 resolution as well as a 1024 x 768? The type of layout I need involves a static scrolling left menu column (scaling ok), a static header for my company logo (scaling ok) that does not move when you scroll down the page, and a liquid body that can scale and scroll down while the header stays in place.
Should I use a liquid css layout, should I continue as I am doing with a basic grid and left frame for the menu, as well as a frame for the header so it remains static, and a frame for the body that scrolls so people can view products...
I need advice on how to structure the site before I begin adding products and images and things. What would be the best type of layout to use for what I am trying to accomplish so that it can be viewed fully at virtually any resolution when a person expands or contracts their browser window?

Hi all,
For work and personal reasons I have decided to try to learn Java. I don't have much experience with computer languages - just the BASIC I learnt at school 20 years ago and messing around with VBA in Excel.
To start with I'd just like to ask for advice so I hopefully start in the right way.
Firstly, I have downloaded an online book by Bruce Eckel called 'Thinking in Java'. Does anyone have an opinion on if this is a good source to learn from, and if not, a recommendation?
Also, is it best to get an IDE, or just use Notepad to start with?
Lastly, are there any conventions for where to put 3rd party packages and my own code? I'm thinking specifically of the code that comes with the Bruce Eckel book unless anyone puts me off learning from it.
Any other advice for someone starting out would also be greatly appreciated.

called lib (is that bad?) and one for my code (code).
I'm sure it will grow but I'm hoping that will be
enough for me to start learning.lib and code are fine... I use tools and projects respectively at home, but it really doesn't matter that much. What does matter - if you are interested in handling things somewhat fundamentally - is this. You are going to be building and running, setting classpaths, referring to that libs folder etc from command line scripts (batch files) or build scripts (like ant). That location will at some point change, so you want to make your scripts flexible and define that path in only one place. For the same reason, relying on the CLASSPATH environment variable is often discouraged.
At first you'll probably not be using scripts but just type the commands on the console, that's fine, just at some point you'll get tired of typing the same things over and over :-)
The packages that come with the Bruce Eckel book (which are all in a folder called COM) If I'm not mistaken, com would be the root package folder for Eckel's source, as in for example package com.bruceeckel.util. To keep it separated from other libraries which may also have com as first package part, I'm thinking that folder com should be e.g. here:
C:\Java\libs\ThinkingInJava\com
C:\Java\libs\ThinkingInJava\com\bruceckel\util\I hope I'm not confusing you now, but in the long run you will be glad if your libraries are organized properly. The meaning of packages and their relation to folders is explained in Eckel's book so it will become clear.
As for getting there, you seem to have the right attitude, good luck and have fun!

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features(Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (If this won't uninstall press on)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
and paste into:
C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

Need your advice on making family videos without losing quality

I need your advice. I don't know where to put my question because I don't know which piece of software I need (so I am posting this in a few places on the forum: sorry). That is exactly the question, I guess.
I have a couple of digital cameras that I use to make family videos. They both produce .avi files. Sometimes I use an iPhone that produces .mov files. So after my children and grandchildren visit, I end up with a bunch of these little videos. I want to combine them into longer videos that I can watch more conveniently on my Apple TV 2 or put on a DVD to send my kids or to my elderly mother-in-law to watch. I know how to combine them using iMovie HD, but that process seems to radically degrade the resolution and/or image quality. The original .avi files are 1024x768 and are very clear and sharp. I can't watch these .avi files on my ATV2 so I've been using Quicktime Player 10.0 to open them and then save them as .mov files. Once I import these files into iTunes, I can watch them on my ATV2 and they too look great on my tv (since they have the same resolution as the original .avi files): sharp and clear. But after I use iMovie HD to combine them (the .avi files) into an .m4v file, they're down to 640x480, and don't look near as good. And the DVD made from this file using iDVD looks equally bad and blocky.
I think what I want to know is, can I change some parameters on iMovie HD to produce files that are as high quality as the original .avi and .mov files? Or if not, what software do I need to accomplish this? I'm not interested in "fancy" movies. These are just home movies, but they are important to us. Should I upgrade my iMovie to do this? Or get Quicktime Pro? Or what? I'd appreciate your advice. I'd like to keep the process as simple as possible.

This is my workflow. I'm sure you will get a variety of opinions, but all I can say for my AVI clips, I've had excellent results for viewing on AppleTV.
I use iMovie HD 6 for organizing the clips into short movies, 15 minutes +/-. Clips are imported into iMovie as DV files. Once the movies are completed, I Export from iMovie as Full Quality, which results in a my-movie.dv file.
I then open the dv file in MPEG Streamclip. There I use the MP4 and iTunes settings for screen ratio and bit rate. 4:3 for Standard Def and 16:9 for High Def. Sounds complicated, but once you open MPEG Streamclip, the settings are simple to figure out.
The main thing to remember about quality is not to upscale your video. If the resolution is 640x480 SD, do not export higher than 640x480.

I got to say that this is my first finnished labview program, and it's working fine, almost no problems. But i'm not that shure about
this huge while loop with all its instructions. Normaly a while loop takes 1 ms to iterate once, but this loop takes more than one ms,
I'm using another subVI to catch data up to 5 ms. / sample as output from measurement device to the while loop in this Sub vi, and then from this sub VI i'm initializing the data value read from the Measurement device, to a global variable that i read in this huge while loop. I belive that the subVI while loop iterates several times before the huge loop iterates once. Meaby thats why my graphs for the data are plotting more than one data at a time.
Take a look and give your advice, it seems that all the measurements are well. And I don't really got problems with the program when running, exept from small delays when I switch the sample rates.

Wow! That's an eye-full.
There are some functions like setting audio On / Off that may not need to be in there. Or do they? You'd have to describe what the loop is supposed to do. Same comment for the indicator display settings on property nodes. Do you intend to turn them on/off a number of times during an iteration of the loop?
You should "divide & conquer". By that I mean, use sub-vi's that are function specific. As mentionned by Titou, you should have a look at the development guidelines. Basically, now that you have a working loop, you can improve it by creating some sub-vi's, revisit some items that may not need to be in the loop. As a matter of fact, you could create some control & indicators and maybe transform the loop into a sub-vi as well.
There are many Case Statements that you could convert to sub-vi's and that way, you could eliminate the global variables by using indicators and wiring directly to them.
However, I would have to say that the value for "Write Flow Data" might become unpredictable due to race conditions. Revisit how the value(s) are set for that one.
But it does look like you had some fun doing this one. Which is the most important thing. To have fun implementing solutions with LV.

Weird Access Problems - Really Need Your Advice

This is complex and confusing, and I am not an IT expert. Let me provide background and symptoms:
1) I recently moved and transferred ISP providers from Cox to Adelphia.
2 My setup consists of Mac G5, a Powerbook, and an Airport Station. The internet cable from Adelphia runs into the Airport Station. A cable then runs from the Airport Station to the G5, and the connection to the Powerbook is made via wireless. This setup worked very well when Cox was my ISP
3) My Apple Mail client accesses mail servers at Cox, Adelphia, Gmail, and .Mac,
4) When I made the hookup described in 2) I was no longer able to access Gmail from Safari. However, when I directly connected the Adelphia cable to the G5 (cutting the Airport out of the loop) I was able to access Gmail.
5) Upon review from Adelphia they suggested that I make sure that there no static entries had been placed in the DHCP field. I checked the field using the Airport software and cleared the field (I am not sure if this was static entry or had been placed there by Adelphia).
6) I hooked the computers and Airport up as in 2). Now the Gmail could be accessed from Safari. HOWEVER, now I could not access Adelphia's mail from Safari. Also I found that I could not access some the the web pages that came up as a result of Google searchs. This has never occurred before.
7) Additionally, I found now when directly connected the G5 to the Adelphia cable I could still get Gmail, but I no longer could access .Mac from Safari.
Note: I have gone through the same steps above using Foxfire and get similar results
BASIC SUMMARY: 1) When Airport is in the connections cannot get access .Mac from Safari (but can access Gmail and Adelphia). 2) When the Airport is connected I cannot access Adelphia from Safari (but can access Gmail and .Mac).
WHAT SHOULD I DO NEXT???: 1) Should I reset the Airport to its original factory settings and reinstall?. 2) Should I clear out the cookies?. 3) Since these are all related to various mail accounts (Gmail, .Mac, and Adelphia) is there something that could be done with the Apple Mail client???

pretty complex indeed.
I would start by running Network Diagnostics with your standard configuration (i.e. the one with the Airport).
In the Apple menu, select System Preferences, Network, then click on the "Assist me..." button on the bottom. That should give you two options: "Diagnostics" and "Assistant".
Try Diagnostics first. If that doesn't solve your problem, run it again without the Airport. If the problem persists, run Assistant and set up a new configuration from scratch, using the original layout with the Airport.
Please post back the results. Good luck!

I have received to following error from at least three different applications when they have attempted to auto-update recently: X "does not have permission to write to the application's directory! Are you running off a disk image? If not, ask your system administrator for help."
I am not running off a disk image and I have admin privileges... Not sure what the problem is, but it just started happening (a week or two ago) and I have never previously had a problem with these applications auto-updating. I have repaired permissions and attempted other "fixes" found on the interweb, but nothing works. Also, this is only happening on my iMac (27" Intel i5) and not my MacBook Pro (17" Intel i5) -- both are running Lion. Please help!

If you updated using the default install (merge) from before Tiger, you may be seeing an issue that we saw when Leopard first came out last year.
Not sure of the fix - it was not simple - but if you search back in these forums you might find something that will help. I believe it deals with the numbers assigned to accounts (501, etc).
If you open your Accounts Preferences and unlock the padlock, right-click Advanced Options and read your User ID and Group ID. Let us know what they are.
Now, in the other user admin account, do the same thing.
One of the real experts who knows much more about this than I may be able to then help.

Has anyone had this before or does anyone know what this is referencing. This happens each time she runs a report and the report does not format correctly.
At the moment it only looks to be her but i dont think this is system settings as she is running Citrix and all other existing users on Citrix are not complaining.

I've seen it, it happens randomly to some users and no others, we saw it last year for a few weeks then it stop and restarted again in Jan then stopped again. Log a call with CC and give them this CR# 12-1QK0RRZ, the last update I have on this is "Understand that this will require some code changes before its fixed .However, I am unable to provide you an estimated time of implementation at this time. I will update you as soon as I hear more on this one." but that was in March.
2 things it doesn't happen in Firefox if that is an option for the user AND we found if you signed into staging then back into prod it made it go away, dont' ask me how or why but it seemed to work for us.
