ASM ORA-27041 'Global Resource Directory partially frozen for dirty detach'

Hi there,
I am running a 10gR2 RAC on two nodes with ASM. Once in three days, the following happens to the ASM instance of one of the nodes. But it's not predictable which node will be next. In other words: Both ASM instances failed so far, but never both at the same time. Least I can say, the cluster always worked. But what the f... happens here? Please have a look at the following alert log extract of the ASM system.

Useless to say that the database based on this ASM instance terminates with complaints about non-readable controlfiles and so on.
It has been no problem to re-start the ASM- and DB-Instance after this happened. So no persistent damage was done, but I find it widely alarming. Has anybody an idea, or can explain, what Oracle does here?
Thanks in advance,
Martin Klier

Hi,
it seem we have found the solution of this problem, it has been a whole bunch of trouble:
- First of all, the interconnect should never be a crossover cable. Oracle said so in the official RAC FAQ, and they describe as reason why not: "b) Instability. We have seen different problems e.g.. ORA-29740 at configurations using crossover cable, and other errors." I had known, but the errors just appeared weeks after the switchover to crossover cabling.
- The ASM-used devices / raw devices MUST be owned by oracle:oinstall (or :dba depending on the setup), if they are owned by root:disk (with oracle as a memeber of disk) it complains - the ASM instance does exactly the error above.
- Having this fixed, I always got an error ORA-27041 but without "Global Resource Directory partially frozen". The system worked fine, but on every start of ASM the error was logged. Solution: provide an ASM_DISKSTRING parameter, in order to prevent ASM trying to use other (maybe CRS-used) raw devices than its own.
The stuff took away three weeks of my life and a bunch of hair :)

    - the name of the directory is correct.
    - how can I check, that the user can use the directory?
    - in this logfile you can see that, the file name will replace correctly:

    Could be privs on OS or database level. Check and see what happens if grant yourself the DBA role. Check if the database software owner (ps -ef | grep pmon) is allowed to write in that directory and/or create a file in that directory. Does the OS make use of ACL's (and/or is, for instance Secure, Linux used)....?

  • ORA-16795: database resource guard detects that database re-creation is req

    Hi, I have Data Guard with data broker (Oracle 10.2.0.4) set up with RMAN and RMAN catalog. I was recovering my primary from a corrupted datafile, when automatic failover took place. After I did the recovery, I tried to re-instate my primary, but ran into the followign error:
    Error: ORA-16795: database resource guard detects that database re-creation is requiredIn order to recreate the old primary (new standby), can I just delete all of the dbf files on old primary and then follow the steps to create a standby using backups from new primary? What about RMAN catalog? Do I have to unregister anything from there? Do I need to delete the configuration? If anyone has steps on how to RE-CREATE standby, that would be very helpful. Thank you!

    I followed the above Metalink note, but when I try to restore standby controlfie I get:

    Hi guys,
    Hope you can help me out here. I get a very confusing message during trying to FTP a directory to the /i/ files in XE. The connectiopn works just fine, but when I try to send something to the folder I get the following message:

    I haven't checked the docs, but it does remind me of the PL/SQL steps required to do similar things. Maybe you need to mkdir first (could it be XMKD? See below...)

  • Global Configuration Directory

    I have installed the latest version (1.5.1 build 5440) on Ubuntu 8.04 64 bit.
    If i launch the application from the terminal it allows me to set up connections from the tnsnames.ora file.
    If I launch it from the menu it does not. It appears that my environment variables (such as TNS_ADMIN) are not used when I launch the application from the menu.
    The User Guide refers to the Global Configuration Directory but does not say where or what it is.
    Please point me in the right direction.
    Regards;
    Robert

    Chris;
    Yes all my environmental variables are set in .bashrc. I created a .bash_profile and even a .profile with all the relevant Oracle environmental variables. There is no difference.
    Is there a file like <sqldeveloper_home>/sqldeveloper/bin/sqldeveloper.conf where I can set the TNS_ADMIN path in the same way that I set the JAVA_PATH?
    Can I set it in the <sqldeveloper_home>/sqldeveloper/bin/sqldeveloper.conf file, and if so what would I call it?
    I have tried setting TNS_ADMIN in the sqldeveloper.conf file, it did not work.

    # symptom: ORA-00381: cannot use both new and old parameters for buffer cache size specification
    # cause: Both db_block_buffers and db_cache_size parameters are defined in the init.ora (instance parameter file). The db_block_buffers parameter has been deprecated and has been maintained only for backward compatibility. The db_cache_size parameter is one of the size parameters which defines the size of the cache for buffers. These parameters cannot be combined. Setting this along with the Dynamic SGA parameters errors out.
    >
    For sga_target refer to [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/initparams193.htm#REFRN10256]
    which quotes
    >
    SGA_TARGET specifies the total size of all SGA components. If SGA_TARGET is specified, then the following memory pools are automatically sized:
    *Buffer cache (DB_CACHE_SIZE)
    * Shared pool (SHARED_POOL_SIZE)
    * Large pool (LARGE_POOL_SIZE)
    * Java pool (JAVA_POOL_SIZE)
    * Streams pool (STREAMS_POOL_SIZE)
    If these automatically tuned memory pools are set to non-zero values, then those values are used as minimum levels by Automatic Shared Memory Management. You would set minimum values if an application component needs a minimum amount of memory to function properly.

    So, the what ever the value are set for the parameter will act as minimum value when sga_target is set.

  • IMovie HD movie has no Play buttons.. partially frozen

    IMovie HD movie has no Play buttons.. partially frozen/ please help. It is only with a particular movie which is both on an external hard drive and on the computer.

    Hi
    there are two - most probably origin to this
    • use of strange media eg .avi, .wmv .mp4 etc.
    (not from miniDV tape Camera - as iMovie up to HD6 is made for)
    Convert video to - streamingDV and
    audio to .aiff 48kHz 16-bit (no .mp3 etc)
    • corruption - eg iMovie pref file or preferences
    Trash iMovie plist file
    Repair Permissions
    Usually helps here
    Else
    *Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather be 25Gb or more
    • Delete iMovie pref file
    iMovie pref file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and is named. (one or more of these)
    com.apple.iMovie.plist
    com.apple.iMovie3.plist
    com.apple.iMovie7.plist
    com.apple.iMovie8.plist
    and find
    com.apple.iApps.plist
    While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this/these file/s out to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
    • Screen must be set to Million-colors
    • Turn off Mac and disconnect Mains/Power for 20-30 minutes - will at least re-set FW-port
    • Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09)
    • Problems in iPhoto Library can affect iMovie to crash on start-up. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
    This You do by
    _ close iPhoto
    _ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
    _ now select all five options presented
    _ WAIT a long long time
    • iMovie updated ?
    • QuickTime updated ?
    • Mac OS version ?
    • Program miss-match. iMovie 4 - will not work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match. iMovie 5.0.2, up to Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK
    • Program miss-match. iMovie 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (will work under Leopard and Snow-Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iMovie’08 v. 7.1.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (will work under Leopard and Snow-Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iMovie’09 v. 8.0.6, Mac OS X.5.8 AND QuickTime 7.6.4 - is OK (will work under Leopard and Snow-Leopard)
    From LKN 1935. (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
    Your answer (above) has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
    there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
    iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
    to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.
    Lennart Thelander
    I run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac.

  • Applying Images from Resource Directory in JBuilder 2006

    Hi!
    I am having a nightmare on that.
    I've been trying to create a Choice List with Images, however, JBuilder never finds the images' location.
    I've tried creating a resource directory everywhere in my project folder, however, I coulnd't resolve the issue.
    The code where I get the error is as follows:         try{
              // create and array of image items
              Image images[] = {Image.createImage("/res/star.png"),
                                Image.createImage("/res/star.png"),
                                Image.createImage("/res/star.png")};
              // Create array of Strings relating to images
              String selections[] = {"Next", "Previous", "New"};
              // create List using arrays, add commands, Listen for events
              lsChoice = new List("Your Option:", List.IMPLICIT, selections, images);
              lsChoice.addCommand(cmExit);
              lsChoice.addCommand(cmAdd);
              lsChoice.setCommandListener(this);
            catch (java.io.IOException e){
              System.out.println("Unable to Find or Read .png file");
              System.out.println("Check if the path to .png file is correct!");
            }Like I said, it kept throwing IOException error regardless of where I've placed the resource directory in my project.
    Could anyone help me on that pls? I've wasted so much time on it, and I couldn't go any further with it...
    Thank you a lot!

    Instead of
    Image.createImage("/res/star.png")
    use
    Image.createImage("/star.png")

  • Create Subfolders In Resource Directory

    This should be a simple question, but I can't find any answers to it! In my iPhone project I'm trying to create sub directories inside the resource directory of my bundle, but the resources always end up in the bundle's root directory.
    The only way I was able to get this to work was to create a new "Copy Files Build Phase" for each sub-directory I want to create. But there has to be an easier way, right?
    Any suggestions?

    To give you one example: my app has 2D grid with tiles that are generated by a Python script outside Xcode and then placed in the resource directory before compilation. Each tile as 8 distinct files, so I group them in a directory.
    The app itself spiders through all the tiles at startup to create a data structure for each tile.
    It could also have been solved by having a certain filename or create a plist with all the tiles, but this just was the most convenient way to do.
    BTW, to the original poster: Xcode won't pick up dependencies on this. If you change files inside the directory and it's not a known file type, it won't update already present files in the build directory, so you'll have to a make clean before compiling. This has bitten me multiple times...

  • Need Help.  Can't load photoshop.  Gets hung up at "Reading Global Resources"

    I can't get photoshop to load.  It stops loading at "Reading Global Resources".  Currently running CS2 on windows Xp. Called Adobe, they won't support CS2 anylonger.  Need help please.

    Try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776?tstart=0
    You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
    This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.   A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.
