ASO reporting cube over Planning application

Hi All,
We have a requirement where we need to create an ASO reporting cube over a HP application (1 plan type only). (The HP app is deployed via EPMA but with local dimensions.)
(v11.1.2.1)
Note that this needs to be automated for monthly load process so the solution needs to be dynamic in nature.
1. Is there any way to automate BSO to ASO conversion?
2. Is there any way to automate 'Map to reporting' option in HP application?
Can any one suggest the best practice to do this.
Kind Regards.

Thanks John and Celvin for your responses.
I have few queries and will appreciate your help on that-
1. Is there any automation command in EPMA batch client to copy metadata from my HP application to BSO reporting cube. (Plz note that the dimensions are local and not shared, And can't make and use shared dimensions) ?
2. I guess to resync metadata I need to use 'EPMA batch client' to load metadata through ads file and redeploy my app. Plz verify my understanding ?
Another question out of my cursoity-
3. In case I go for classic approach- Is there any way to automate BSO to ASO app. I saw an MAXL command 'create outline' that creates ASO outline based on a BSO app. Is that a good idea to create an ASO app ? I don't think it will be flexible in correcting ASO properties like formulas, solve order etc. And thus most of the work would be manual. Need your guidance on this.
Kind Regards.1. There is a way to do copy dimension
You can copy dimensions within the Shared Library, within an application, or between the Shared Library and an application. You cannot copy a dimension directly from one application to another.
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/epma_batch_user/ch02s05s03s02.html
You can still make your Planning dimension local and Share them to Shared Library. You can then move the shared library dimension to Essbase application and keep that as Local (but why all local dimensions and use EPMA?)
2. To resync you have a dimension resync command (load them to Shared or individual app, I still don't see a point why you are using EPMA if all dimenions are local)
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/epma_batch_user/ch02s05s10s02.html
3. I never used that one, however tried it on Sample Basic and found that it is not converting BSO formulas to MDX formulas. (Not a very helpful one, it just converts your BSO hier to ASO hier)

  • Updating metadata/data in ASO reporting cube from BSO

    Hi Experts,
I am creating an ASO reporting cube and would like to know the best way to automate the update of metadata and data from a BSO cube without the use of a partition? This is my first time working with ASO. Any insight or examples would be much appreciated. Please advise.
    Thanks in advance!

    Thank you for the responses!
The dimensions will be the same. I will be exporting level0 data then loading it into the ASO cube. I believe I should be able to use the same load rule that I am using for the BSO cube, correct? Also, I am planning on only loading the 'Final' versions of 'Budget' and 'Forecast'. In my data export I believe I can put a condition to only export the 'Final' version, please correct me if I'm wrong?
One last thing, I would like to keep 2 years of 'Actuals' and 1 year of 'Budget' and 'Forecast'. At year end I would to clear previous 'Budget' and 'Forecast' and 2nd prior year after the current 'Budget' and 'Forecast' are closed. Can this be handled in a separate script? Please advise.
    Thanks again for the responses.

  • Web Analysis reports based on Planning application

    All,
I have migrated planning application from dev to prod using LCM, planning version 11.1.1.2. everything has been migrated and working fine.
Web Analysis reports, and Database connections are also migrated from DEV to PROD.
User has uploaded some PLAN data for FY10 through smartview on PROD server, but unable to see the data using Database connection migrated from DEVL but he can see the data when he creates new database connection on PROD.
both database connections are from same database but he cannot see any new data uploaded through smartview with old database connection and he have tons of reports based on old database connection.
can I change database connection for old reports with new database connection or do I need to fix something on my planning side.
Please provide some suggestions. I can give more info if required.
    Thanks
    Ravi S

    Hi,
LCM will have created xml exports with the database connection information in them.
If you open one of the xml database connection exports you will see something like
    <server-name>localhost</server-name>
    <application-name>PLANSAMP</application-name>
    <database-name>Consol</database-name>
You would need to update the information such as the servername in the files then import them in again using LCM.
    Cheers

  • New Report Req over Planning ( real time) cube

    Hi gurus,
I have Planning Cube which is being populated by Template,
Where we set the Account Status from unlock to lock, and once saved all the
Lock accounts only get saved in the cube using some exit in background which populate one table also..
So now we have a Report which runs on this cube  and gives details for all the Lock accounts , but now we have requirement to get all the UNLOCK ACCOUNTS
    Also .
So kindly guide me way forward
    Regards
    Rahul

You could write an exit function that deletes the planning data. There is a reason that they removed the deletion of requests during planning mode. If anything is in the planning buffer while you delete a request that contains the same key your data could become corrupted.
I recommend to my customers to compress the requests very often to prevent the deletion of requests.
    Best regards

  • Change request staus of realtime cube over planning function

    Hello all,
is there a way to change the request status from a real time cube from yellow into green out of a planning function, e.g. FOX?
We are using BI 7.0. Any help would be fantastic.
    Best regards,
    Stefan from Munich/Germany

If we switch the cube from real time to loading, request will be converted to green. You can switch the cube back. You use report SAP_CONVERT_NORMAL_TRANS

    Hi
    Thanks For the replies.
After the data is copied into the layout. User is changing the values of few key figures and saving. A new line item is created in the cube with the new values.
    Ex
    Cust ....qty.....Value....Revenue
    c100....10........100.....1000
    Changing the value in layout
    Cust ....qty.....Value....Revenue
    c100....10........150.....1000
    After saving in the cube
    Cust ....qty.....Value....Revenue
    c100....10........100.....1000
    c100....0........50..........0
When the user execute the report revenue is not populating correctly. And i was expecing 150 *10 = 1500. I understood the issue. Can anyone tell me how can i achieve without updating the quantity how can i get this?
    Thanks

  • Was told not to report off transaction planning cubes

    Hello there,
we recently implemented Hyperion Planning and have 3 Essbase cubes: Planning, Capex, and workforce. We want to hook OBIEE up to the cubes for reporting. We have been told it is not best practice to report off the same cubes we're transacting in. How should we go about building reporting cubes? Is it as simple as "backing up" or copying our transactional cubes?

It is always better to restrict the planning application for the planning operations and providing the reqd reporting applications for the reporting purposes.
This will avoid the unnecessary conflict b/w the planning and reporting cycles.
In the planning 11.1.1.2 there is inbuilt feature of mapping the planning cubes for the reporting application(ASO applications).
Under covers it works like this
It extract the required set of data from the planning cube by genaratiing and executing calc script into a text file.
After that it will format the data file to map the reporting cube and dimensionality and load into the reporting cube.
Insteade of using this in built feature we can provide the better automated customi interface for our application with three regularly used components
    1. data export calc script
    2. Rule file to map the exported file with the reporting cube.
    3. MaxL file.
If you are using the same dimension structure for the reporting cube as of planning cube except hsp_rates and currency dimensions.
You can try this as well.
    1. creating bso-aso replicated partition(suppoerted in essbase 11)
    2. replicate data
    3. drop replicate data

  • Financial report for essbase and planning application

    Hi,
Can any one please explain me what is the difference between creating financial report for essbase application and planning application.
Considering we will have Essbase cube for the planning application
    Thanks in advance

Correct, the data that is stored in Essbase will be the same regardless of which connection type you use.
Data that is only stored in Planning can only be retrieved using a Planning connection. This includes Supporting Detail and SmartLists as these are stored in the Planning relational database.
As a general rule I always use an Essbase connection unless i specifically want to get supporting detail or smartlists but that is just me.
    Hope this helps

  • Report to display (actuals data from one cube and plan from another)

    Hi Gurus,
I have a requirement in reporting to display actual data from one cube and plan data from a different one.
The example below might give a clear picture of the requirement.
rows has key figures and columns = months
    Jan |  Feb |  Mar |  Apr |  May |  Jun  ...   ....
    GrossSales
    Net Sales
Now if I run the report for Current month (Apr), then for the months of (Jan, Feb and Mar) i need to get the data from CUBE1   and for the remaining months (Apr thru Dec) from CUBE2.
Similarly when i run the report next month(may),
then (data for Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr  from CUBE1)
and ( May thru Dec from CUBE2)
    Any suggestions.
    Thanks in Advance
    Kumar

    Hi Henry,
We alreadey have a multi provider which includes
FinDat Cube(CUBE1) for actuals and Comm.Goals cube (CUBE2) for plan.
So you suggest that we have two versions of key figure for actual and plan.
ie. each KF will have two versions.
actuals = (version 10, FiscPer<curr.mnth, key figure, acutals cube)
    Plan = (version 20, FiscPer>=curr.mnth, key figure, comm.goals cube)
    eg:
    Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr | May | Jun ...
    GrossSales(Act)
    GrossSlaes(Plan)
    Net Sales(Acutal)
    Net Sales(Plan)
Correct me if I am wrong.
the report has a lot of key figures, having two versions for each kf will be confusing.
the user would like to see
    Jan.....| ...Feb  |..Mar |..Apr.....|  May  |
    GrossSales   Act Value|Act.V |Act.V| PlanVal|PlanVal|
    Net Sales
    where Act.Value is from CUBE1
             Plan Value is from CUBE2
    Thanks

  • Mapping SmartLists to an ASO Reporting App - Synchronization Difficulties

For those who have never done this before, I particiularly recommend John Goodwin's blog.
    http://john-goodwin.blogspot.co.uk/2010/06/1112-planning-mapping-reporting.html
So, in this particular regard, I'm trying to map Smart Lists to dimensions I created in the ASO application in Essbase.
In our planning application, we have 12 dimensions. In our ASO application, we have 15. (3 additions based on the smartlists)
The naming and matching of smartlists and corresponding ASO dimensions are 100% accurate. The mapping settings are no different. I have even attempted to map the smartlists while excluding additional dimensions from the ASO application by isolating them in the Point of View.. It worked. When I attempt to map the smartlists to the ASO dimensions however, the synchronization suggests that there is a duplication or conflict of data.
I'm going to try and further address this problem by matching the ASO dimension Member with the SmartList Entry ID's, although I personally doubt that this is the problem. Any further clarification on this topic is highly appreciated.

When mapping a Smartlist to a dimension the MRA functionality in Planning will attempt to use the SmartList Label to map to a member Alias or member Name in your ASO cube. If you're smartlist label CAN'T BE matched to a member Alias or member Name in your ASO cube, the mapping will fail.
If your're smartlist value is #MISSING, you can provide a default "Smart List label" to use to map to a "default" member name in your ASO cube.
If your're smartlist label for some reason, does need to be different from a "real" member name or Alias, then you will need to maintain a "mapping smartlist" who's label does match a "real" member name or Alias in your ASO cube. This "mapping smartlist" must have the same smartlist item value as your real smartlist and you'll need a member formula for the "mapping smartlist" that does the following: "Mapping Smartlist" = "Real SmartList".

  • Linking existing Essbase Cube to Planning

My business team created an Essbase cube, and now they want us to link that cube to Planning.
I opened an SR and I was told the following:
    1. Ensure you have a test environment to create this new Planning app before moving to production.
    2. Create a new Planning app in the test environment with the same name as the production Essbase cube.
    3. Export all Essbase data.
    4. Copy over the outline to the new Essbase cube in the test env. You can copy over the rest of the Essbase objects as needed (calc scripts, report scripts, etc).
    5. Import the Essbase data into the new Essbase cube.
    6. refresh Planning
Everything went well except for Step 6. When I do the refresh from Planning, the Essbase Outline gets updated with the one from Planning which doesn't have anything since it was just created.
I need to refresh the Planning Outline with the the one from Essbase that does have the data the users have been working on.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
You will have to define all the dimension membes etc to Planning. Because Essbase is the database, it will be updated with planning information... There are no shortcuts.. But you can export your dimension members from existing Essbase and load into planning using HAL/ODI/DIM..
Use outline extractor tool to get the existing dimensionality and create 1 metadata file per dimensions.
I believe Oracle support thought that you want to create a new Essbase cube from existing Planning cube.
    Cheers

With your help, I can verify it easier rather than creating dataform to verify it.
I have resolved the question now, the root cause is I had used the wrong parameter, shouldn't add '/N' in the command. for /N is a dry run to check whether there are error in CSV file, it won't perform metadata load.
If no error occured, run the command without /N, then the metadata load will be performed.

  • Transfering data between H.Planning applications

    Hi all,
I would need some help with transfering (synchronizing?) data between two Hyperion Planning applications. The source application has less dimensions ( just 8) than the destination application (13 dimensions). And we know there is one of the source dimensions (Entity dimension) that determines which is the combination for more than one destination dimensions ( Responsable, Geography, Market...). Just to clarify:
    Source Dimensions Destination Dimensions
    1 AccountS -----------------------------> AccountD
    2 ScenarioS-----------------------------> ScenarioD
    8 EntityS--------------------------------> EntityD
    EntityS--------------------------------> Responsable
    EntityS--------------------------------> Geog.
    EntityS--------------------------------> Market
Which would be the best way to solve that problem? I've been reading the EPMA Admin Guide ( Data Synchronizer), but I don't know how if that's the way to do it. How about Business Rules or Scripts?
Thanks for your ideas and support.

You can also you "partitioning" to do this. Old school method but if you understand it you can do exactly the mapping you are displaying, including going from a cube with less dimensions to a cube with more dimensions. It's a bit tricky thought to get the syntax right but once set up will continue with you month over month. Based on your model it actually might be multiple partitions to make this work correctly.
Another idea is to use a secondary Alias table for the one for one mapping part. and go with John's method.
It also begs the question why your models are so different in the first place, if they share data, but I'm sure you have good reason for this.

  • HPCM Reporting Cube Error

    Hi everyone,
I am hoping that some one is able to help me with this issue. When I deploy the reporting cube from HPCM into essbase I am always greated with a failure on the status. The error message in the log file contains the following : "Caused by: com.essbase.api.base.EssException: Errors found during outline verification.
    NoMember ()".
The only confusion that I have is that I can successfully deploy the calculation cube? For anyone who is not familiar to HPCM, but might be able to help... is there a big difference in the outline verification of aggregated and block storage (the reporting cube is aggregated storage)?
    Thanks

We needed to create an ASO cube for a similar use in the recent past. We have evaluated the partitoning option but at the end found it far too complicated than having it disconnected from the planning cube. We have written some maxl scripts which are updating the metadata and loading the data afterwards to the aso cube from bso. The most challenging in this was the conversion of member formulas to MDX but it's not hugely complex, unless you have some very complex member formulas.
As for the documentation, I think essbase admin guide is quite decent.
    Cheers,
    Alp
