ASP application view

I am relatively new to website development, i decided to have
my website application server on ASP/IIS platforn running on Vista
(temporarily), I have managed to link all my sql tables, created
recordset etc, but each time I try to preview my form on browser(eg
list items on a table/form from sql ), i get this error message (An
error occurred on the server when processing the URL. Please
contact the system administrator).....from design view, i can see
the data on recordset/table on application window.....what can i
do?

The issue you found out is correct. When activating "Server side fetching" the start page will be retrieved from your backend directly by the portal server and from there delivered to the user. For subsequent requests (e.g. after clicking on a link, button ...) this is not possible. This would (among others) require the portal to rewrite all URLs in your ASP application to point to the portal (instead of the ASP server) - a feature that is not available.
The usual way for exposing a web application to the internet would be a reverse proxy. There have been some quite good weblogs posted here recently. Check these out:

To view an asp application externally

We have an asp application that we want to show in the portal through an iview. The challenge is to make the application available externally outside our firewall etc. What we have done is to create an URL iview and set the properties Cache level to Shared and Fetch Mode to Server side. This way we can access the start page externally (even though the styles are not showing) but when we click any buttons (submit, search etc) it is trying to access our local server directly instead of going through the portal. Any tips on how we can make this work?

Problem with sso for asp applications

Hi,
i am using the web app integrator to integrate asp application with SSO, i am getting permission denied some times, the permission denied is a small html file on asp server side when userid is null.
I am sure that the user id is not null because i have written small script to respond back with the passed user id like response.write(""), it is giving back the passed user id every time but at the same time i am getting Permission denied.
The permission denied is a small html file on the .net server side when the ui=null in the pssing URL.
How this is happening at the same time, one is giving back the user id and one is taking the user id as null.
some times i am getting right page and some times giving permisssion denied.
the basic URl is
http://abc.xyz.com/sm_log.asp?userid=damodhar
There is no great security behind this only passing user id, they are not passing the password even in the http header authentication. the simple logic is they are hiding the URL from the view source.
if i pass the hard coded url from the browser i am getting the proper page at the same time if i pass the url from portal it is working some times and some times not, i don't know when?
I am using the web application integrator method.
we are operating portal server from internet and .net server is on intranet.

If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.

Report.Load Error with ASP application

Hi,
I experienced a few instances where my the follow statement where my ASP application (using VS2005, CRXI-R2+SP4, Datasets and CR Viewer on the server) thows an error on my server (running Server 2003).

I don't know what the exception is at this point. But something happens and the crystal reports in all my websites break uniformly. I need to restart IIS to get things back working. This has happended to me 3x now.

ASP / Code View Issues

Good morning to all of you.
I have used Dreamweaver at work for many years to manage our extensive classic ASP applications. I like the interface but I have found that programming with a darker background is much easier on my eyes. I found some dark code view background profiles that covered HTML/PHP/CFM files and loved how they looked on those type of projects but they were lacking ASP support. I took the time to create the profile for ASP Vbscript and then copied it to ASP Javascript so no matter what language I'm in they will be the same. It looks great but I have to fake out Dreamweaver to force it to view the code in the right file type. It seems Dreamweaver is pretty inconsistent with determining the ASP file/language type.
If I use:
<% @Language="vbscript" %>
It will load the correct profile and things seem well. If I don't do that, I not only don't get the correct coding but the commenting doesn't look right either. I have to end every line with that has a comment a single apostrophe as well to keep it from getting the code view appearance looking wrong.
This hackish attempt above works but it bad style. You can't define this more than once in a document and would be problmenatic if you use include files (who doesn't really?)...
I almost exclusively code ASP-VB. How can I make Dreamweaver read ALL ASP files in this the ASP-VB format by default? As it sits right now, it's totally wrong.

It's not so much doing with the actual language. It's the fact that Dreamweaver doesn't recognize that the .asp file is indeed ASP so it applied the wrong code view coloring, rules for comments and no suggestive code. If I am drop the language in the top of the file, this corrects THAT file but if you have multiple include files and you push it to your server like this (wish this language definition in each of those files) you will get an error from the server for multiple definitions.

If you tried to fake out the code view by doing that to MAKE it view the file as an ASP-VB file, it's not only bad practice, it's redundant and the server will cough at it giving you an error that simply tells you that the declaration has to be on the first line. This is true, in the main file, but the included file would then put it inline on whatever line it happens to be as part of the compiled page which is invalid.
The main problem is that I have to fake out the code view by defining the language on every page I edit to get text-coloring right and other features. The question is can I make it always default to maybe ASP-VB unless explicitely defined something else like @Language="Javascript" ?

Get spuser from asp application

I am using a page viewer web part to host an asp .net web application. Is it possible to use SPUser to get the current logged in user from the asp application?

In order for your asp.net application to take advantage of SharePoint context is it must be running under the SharePoint website in a virtual directory. For instance you could create a virtual directory under the SharePoint site located under _layouts. Then you could set your page view webpart link to http://servername/sharepointsite/_layouts/aspnetapplication/default.aspx. So then your asp.net application would have access to the SPContext. If you do not want to do this then if you want some authentication or personalization transferred to your asp.net application then you will have to create a custom webpart that some how takes SPContext and transferes it via for example a query string.http://www.certdev.com

A problem when I try to create a application view throug a Bea MQSeries Adapter8.1

          Hi, guys!
          I have installed Weblogic platform 8.1 beta, and try to use the MQSeries Adapter
          which provide by Bea weblogic, and it's seems I must deploy the .ear file which
          is an application include the MQ Adapter, on a domain which provide the Integration
          function, the ear file I was download from bea site. So I deploy it in the samples/domain/platform
          domain as the docs told me. And after that I create a new directory called session
          and a subdirectory contain a manifest.xml file, I do this also due to the docs
          provide by Bea. And then I can create the application view in the application
          view console, BUT, when I try to add a Event in the console, the page and OS console
          both print this message :

Use of an application view for SAP R/3

Hello,
I created an Application View of my SAP R/3 backend and integrated it into Weblogic
Workshop.
I fire a request to the BAPI through the App View, but nothing happens. I thought
I get a response through the response event??? Maybe someone has an idea... here

Diagnosis
Currently no application component hierarchy ("APCO_MERGED", database table RODSAPPL and RODSAPPLT) exists in the system. This is required in BW so that the DataSources can be displayed correctly in the source system tree.
Procedure
Copy the application component hierarchy from the Content using transaction RSA9.
In development system I went to RSA9 & transferred the application componet then its asks or pkg name I have given the pkg name also before use the datasrcs , I have transported the same thing to production before transporting the datasrcs but in production the application component herarachy did not get transported I think that why its giving the msg No valid application component hierarchy exists but my datasrcs got transported ,pls suggest me what has to be done
Should I import the same request in to production again
Or shall I run rsa9 again & transfer the application component hierarchy again & transport it to production id I do this will already transported datarscs have any effect in production

Import / export of Application view and Data Form

Hi,
I'd like to know if it's possible to backup or export Applications View in EPMA and Data Form in a Planning Application between the test and production machine.
Can anyone help me?

I’ve used the EPMA File Generator that you sent me both under a test virtual machine and our test machine, but always I’ve the same problem (deploy aborted on 0%), that I’ve pasted up in this tread, and I’ve note that after the exporting with the EPMA File Generator, the original application view not deploys with the followed message:

What projects are being filtered into "Project" application view? I ask you this because instead into "Last used Projects" view i see all the project created. Both views are standard.

ASP application has problems working with oracle database 8.1.7

ASP application has problems working with oracle database 8.1.7 through both oracle ODBC driver and Microsoft ODBC driver
We have an ASP application running on Windows 2000 server, and with 8.1.7 Net8Client and MDAC 2.6 SP1.
The application worked fine with an Oracle 8.0.5 database.
After upgrading oracle database to 8.1.7.0.0, our ASP application works fine except when updating the same data record more than once. The application is not saving our updates.
We tested our application using Oracles ODBC driver v8.1.7.5.0
and experienced more problems. We had problems just bring up our data entry pages. In either case, we are returned with some 505 errors in our browser, problems with the ASP pages and IIS, the page is not displaying.
If anyone has some suggestions on how to fix my problem, please advise. Thanks in advance.

thanks...i saw one article with this approach..but the document did not present the detailed process...do you have one? i am still searching for a good procedure to follow...since it is an old database and focusing/studying old versions like this is a pain in the a**... :(

I've created a new datasource for this app, but still faced the same problem.
PS: I also found some error when validate the SampAp application view, so I've changed it a little. I don't know if the application view design may cause this problem. Thanks for your reply.

From another post which I think relates to same sort of issue the solution was :-
On your server > Change your "Standards and formats" into English(United States) in "Regional and Language Options".
This was due to the currency format being in chinese.

Application View Deigner GUI and File Adapter

I am currently experiencing a problem with the Application View Designer GUI
tool. When I tried to edit an user-defined application view or the
associated Connection Factory for the File Adapter using the GUI tool, I got
an "Unsupported Adapter Type" error message -Adapter BEA_FS_ADAPTER doe not
support GUI-based configuration - please see attachment "error1.jpg" for the
screen capture. This Event associated with this application view is
currently functioning properly. It just seems that I am no longer able to
make any change to the current configuration (I had successfully made the
similar edits before without any problems).
When the above problem occurred, I then tried to create a new application
view based on the File Adapter, I got and "UnsupportedAdapterException"
error-please see attachement "error2.jpg" for the screen capture.
Has anyone encountered the similar errors before? Insight or thoughts?
Perhaps it was due to corruption of certain files or database? Any
information will be greatly appreciated!

1.Status: TO_BE_DELIVERED
Which means that the message was successfully delivered from Integration Server point of view and it states that the messages is initially handed over to the Messaging System.
TO_BE_DELIVERED occurs while the message is put into the Messaging System receive queue.

Struggling with SMTP and classic ASP application

I have a classic ASP application that I'm moving from 2003 to 2012. On 2003 it used CDONTS to send email, as this is not supported I am converting it to CDOSYS as follows;

The transport failed to connect to the server. on the send.
I think it's a problem with the SMTP configuration, but I don;t know how to check it.
