ASP Corrupts my Design View

I have a site with css that I developed on a XP machine with Dreamweaver CS3.  For my footer I use an asp include:
<!--#include virtual="/foot.asp"-->
In XP I could still view my pages in design mode and they looked fine, but i recently got a new computer that runs win pro7.  I have installed dreamweaver CS3 and now when I view these pages they are all messed up in design view unless I take out this code.  A message came up the first time I closed dreamweaver about some windows components to working properly but I think I clicked the wrong thing and cant get that message back.  Does anybody know how to make my design view work again while my asp code is on the page?
thanks,
Nick

  • Design View is disabled

For some strange reason, when I open up an .htm or .html file, I am only seeing Code View, and the Design View (and Split View) tabs are disabled (greyed out), so I can't click on them.  This is what it looks like:
If I open up an .asp file, then Design View works.  If I rename my .htm file to .asp, then it works too... but the second I rename it back, Design View stops working.
I checked through this forum and found http://forums.adobe.com/message/226194, which is another forum discussion presenting the same problem.  The answer to that post says to go to Edit > Preferences > File Types / Editors, and remove the extension from the "Open in code view" setting.  But I checked my Preferences, and neither .htm nor .html are in the "Open in code view" field:
This is somewhat baffling, as it was working last week, and I haven't done anything to the system (to my knowledge) that would have changed a setting.  I'm using Dreamweaver CS3.
I searched through the Web, Adobe's documentation, and this forum... I couldn't find an answer.
Has anyone seen this problem before?  Can anyone suggest a fix?  I'm sure it's some setting somewhere (perhaps in a config file) that might have gotten corrupted or changed by something.
    Thanks!

In the absence of better suggestions you could try forcing DW to re-create your Config folder via this procedure:

  • Design view corrupted?

I've been working on a few web pages in DW 9 on both my
laptop (running mac OS 10.5–leopard) and my workstation (OS
10.4—tiger) I opened up the pages on my laptop after working
on them all day on my workstation. Now the design view looks
un-designed, no background color, no images nothing, just the text
and the indications of the divs (but all in the wrong locations).
Another page that I designed on my laptop exclusively, looks fine
in design view. I had to recently reinstall the entire CS3 design
suite of applications on my workstation. I did all of the program
updates before I worked on any files. Can anyone help. I need to be
able to work on both my laptop and my workstation. I haven't had
any problems with these pages before I did the reinstall. Are they
corrupted? Do I need to rebuild them from scratch?
    Any clues?
    Thanks for your help.

We can only know what might be wrong by seeing the file. Can
    you upload it
    and post a link?

  • Command Button colors corrupt after switching back and forth from design view.

I would say my experience level with Access is "getting there."
    I therefore don't thing I'm making a newbish mistake.
Has anyone else noticed this?  As it's bugging me quite badly.
    1.  A command button has had it's color formatted (pressed, hover, etc. nothing fancy)
    2.  It works fine.
    3.  In my navigation form, if I switch to design view, then select a given sub-form... like "customers" - and switch back out of design view, to form view - then without fail, all customized command buttons within that sub forms' color will 'corrupt'
    ie, change.
    4. Closing and reopening the navigation form (ie, my main menu) restores it, but the same thing will happen should I go back to design view for the sub form.
    5.  Finally - this behaviour does not happen when switching back and forth between views on the original form that isn't a sub form in the navigation form.  (Ie,. the main 'customers' form).
Can any clever folk give me a solution? :(
    Thanks,
    Eric Rowlands
EDIT - My apologies, I am using Access 2013 for a desktop database.

    1) We will need to understand whether the issue is seen on any sample database.
    2) IS this seen only on your system, we would need to check on other system also
    3) If the issue is seen in all system & issue is not seen in the sample database then this could be database specific issue
    4) As per my understanding the issue is consistent, we would need to find what is the VBA code or which code is used while designing this form.
    5) We would need to see if the issue is seen only on that particular navigation form?
    6) Is the button gets corrupt I mean to say non-usable once it get discolored ?
    7) What is your end goal just in case if you are able to work on your database i.e. when working on the navigation form without going in design view is issue still seen there ?
    8) Since when are you experiencing this issue ?
    9) If possible please provide me the environment details of your system & Access application, whether the issue is seen only in access 2010 can we check in access 2007 or in access 2013.
I would really appreciate if you can answers the above questions this will really help us to isolate the issue further
in terms of technical troubleshooting after answering the above question I might come up with another question so that we can do extensive isolating the issue so the if required we can involve the developer also.

  • Corrupt design view in Dreamweaver 2014

Is there a solution for the corrupt design view in Dreamweaver 2014. Adobe continues to fix this and it has not changed. My pages are all distorted and the elements/divs are all over the place. It is perfect in live view.
    PLEASE...does anyone have a solution,
    Thanks,
    Kathy

    Kathy,
Design view in Dreamweaver has always been very problematic, it amazes me that it has been OK for you in the past.
With DWCC14, live view has greatly improved and it will not surprise me if Adobe decide to drop Design view in future releases.
To answer your question, in DWCC14, I would not use design view at all. You can now use Live view where you could not use it in previous versions of DW.

  • Design view becomes corrupt in Dreamweaver CC

Whenever I edit code in split view or scroll the window in design view, the design view window content becomes corrupt with page elements randomly appearing and moving on the screen.
It's only the view that's affected, the page I'm working on doesn't change, it's just the way Deamweaver displays it.
This makes design view useless for all practical purposes and must be a bug.
Has anybody else experienced the same issue?

    Hi kushalgupta,
I a not sure what you ment with "reset the settings" but based on the Adobe Help file I deleted the the Dreamweaver CC folder in /Users/Your User Name/Library/Application Support/Adobe as well as the Dreamweaver preference file in
/Users/Your User Name/Library/Preferences to restore preferences in Dreamweaver CC.
Unfirtunately this didn't solf the problem for us. Maybe you ment something else with "reset the settings"?

  • Design view and browser view in DW are different than when I view from local folder

I'm brand new to Dreamweaver CS5.5 and here is my problem:
I've made an html page in dreamweaver with a banner, with an additional graphic and some text on top of the banner.  It displays just fine in every browser when I view from the local folder, but when I open DW and view, it displays incorrectly in all three design, live and browser views within DW.  If I make changes to the css file until it views correctly in design view, it no longer displays correctly from the local folder and it still doesn't view correctly in live or browser view within DW.  If what I'm doing isnt going to display accurately in any of the views provided by Dreamweaver as compared to the live server, whats the point in having this software?  I could just keep building webpages in notepad and uploading with CoreFTP.
Any suggestions?  Is it some setting that I dont know about that I need to change within DW?   Please help.

align="center" is deprecated (obsolete) code in XHTML & HTML5 doc types.  Instead of styling markup with HTML, you should be using CSS.
    CSS
    .center {text-align:center}
    HTML
    <p class="center">some centered text here</p>
With respect to break tags, in XHTML doc types the correct syntax is <br /> not <br>.  However your usage of line breaks is inconsistent with good symantic markup.  Use headings <h1> <h2> <h3> <h4> for important keywords.  Use <p> for descriptive paragraphs.  Use <ul> <li> or <ol> <li> for lists.  Line breaks should be used minimally if ever.
XHTML doc types require all tags to be lowercase.  Uppercase tags will throw errors.
Your design is too rigid.  When text size is increased in browsers, your content is unreadable.  See screenshot.
    SOLUTIONS:
    1) DO NOT USE POSITION ABSOLUTE.  You don't need it.  Absolute positioning removes content from the normal document flow resulting in a jumbled mess.  Use default CSS positioning (none) with margins, padding & floats to align elements.
    2) Remove HEIGHT values from all CSS containers.  Height limits a container's capacity to hold more content when needed.  Container height should always be determined by the amount of content it holds; not explicit values.  If required to reveal a background image, for example, use CSS min-height instead of height.

  • Cannot view css styles in design view

Is there a way to get Dreamweaver to display style in design
view when the css files are in virtual folders?
Have tried using ASP (Vbscript) snippet to write in the

appears that DW only recognizes hard coded relative links or hard
    coded full URLs.

    Try using Design Time Stylesheets.
Open the Design-Time Style Sheets dialog box by doing one of
    the following:
    1. Right-click in the CSS Styles panel, and in the context
    menu select
    Design-time, or
    2. Select Text > CSS Styles > Design-time.

  • Dreamweaver CC automatically deletes code in code view and elements in design view

When I open a file in Dreamweaver, it automatically shows a * next to the filename - showing it has been edited.
Then often when I select some code in code view, or an element in design view (such as a table, an image, some text) it is suddenly deleted.
The problem is especially bad (happens without fail) if I am switching between programs. But also happens when I'm not switching.
I do not have this problem on a different user account.
I have reinstalled Dreamweaver three times now. Also renamed preference and configuration folders. Tried with a wired mouse and keyboard. Nothing has worked.
I can't think what I did to cause this. I installed MAMP recently - but have uninstalled it correctly I think.
I had an issue with one file in which there were about 30 Spry collapsible panels. I kept getting this warning:
"A script in file Macintosh HD:Applications:Adobe Dreamweaver CC:Configuration:Shared:Spry:DesignTime:EditingUtils.js has been running for a long time. Do you want to continue?"
I have to click 'yes' many times to get into the file, and the warning keeps coming up while the file is open.
However, my big issue of DW CC deleting code and elements happens whether or not this particular file is open.
So this may have nothing to do with it.
    Any ideas anyone?
Adobe's customer service has not helped. In fact, I have not even been able to get through to anyone on the phone - having waited literally hours listening to music, and getting shunted from person to person. And then their promised 'call backs' never happen.
    Thanks,
    - Greg

  • Problem with Design View in DW5

I've recently inherited responsibility for my group's website (despite the fact that I'm kind of a noob at all this) and am dealing with an interesting challenge that I hope someone can help me with.
It seems that our pages are based on a number of templates that for some reason were not saved along with the rest of the site. Short term this is not a huge issue, as the pages have the source code from the templates embedded in them, but this code is not editable and I can't figure out a way to override the fact that I'm "locked out" from making any changes (at least from within Dreamweaver). Up to now I've just been editing the pages individually in Komodo, which is tedious but not horrible, given that our site isn't that big, but it's clearly no way to do business in the long term.
So I'm trying to re-engineer some templates that I can work with. What I did was use Komodo to strip away all of the template-related language from one of the site pages, and re-imported the code back into Dreamweaver, in the hope that I can then save that as a new template. I'm close, but not quite there. My problem is that DW's Design View isn't rendering the page properly, even though it displays fine in Live View and in browsers. Maybe this isn't a huge deal, but it's really bugging me because: 1) I do rely on Design View, since I'm not an experienced programmer; and 2) I'm kind of anal retentive.
To see what I'm talking about, here is the page I used as the foundation for creating a new template:
    http://iodp.ldeo.columbia.edu/TOOLS_LABS/TRIPLE/aps.html
... and here is my new "template" (although I haven't saved it yet as a DW template):
    http://iodp.ldeo.columbia.edu/TOOLS_LABS/TRIPLE/test3.html
The second page displays correctly in Live View, Safari and Firefox, but not in DW's Design View, where it looks like this, at least on my computer:
As you can see, there's an odd "break" between the banner image and the menus on the left, and the body of the page, which should appear to the right of the menus on the left, is instead underneath them. I'm at a loss as to why the same code displays properly for the first page, but not the second.
I guess my questions are as follows:
    1) Does anyone else get the same messed up display in DW's design view if they import the second page into DW?
    2) And if so, can you pinpoint where the problem is?
I hope I've explained this clearly and would really be grateful for help. Thanks!

Validate your code and fix errors.  #1 problem is the lack of a valid Document Type Declaration (DTD) on line 1 of HTML code.
    Code Validation Tools
    CSS - http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/
    HTML - http://validator.w3.org/
To add a DTD in DW:
Go to Modify > Page Properties > Title/Encoding.
Select document type from drop list.  I recommend HTML 4.0 Transitional.
    Hit Apply & OK.
Repeat Steps 1 - 3 on remaining site pages.
I'm not a huge fan of DW Templates (.dwt).  I don't know how big your site is but it might be simpler to disconnect from Templates, giving you freedom to edit anything you wish.  Then use Server-Side Includes (SSIs) for common site wide elements such as menus, headers & footers.
The great thing about SSIs is that you only need to edit one file, save it and upload to server.   Site pages are automatically updated by the server. With Templates, you have to upload every child page each time you change your template.  Even on small sites, this is tedious.

  • In Flash Builder: "No Disk" Error when trying to switch to Design View

Just had Flash Builder Beta 1 uninstalled and Beta 2 installed instead.
When I try to switch to Design View or open a link from Start Page in Flash Builder Beta 2, the application  freezes and "No Disk" error message pops up.

You have some other problem with your boot drive that has corrupted data backed up to the TimeMacine drive.
My advice is to boot into each operating system and manually backup just your Users files each to separate regular external drives (no Timemachine or backup software) and disconnect.
Make a note of any serial numbers, emails, address book contacts, export bookmarks etc. that isn't typically in your users folders data.
You might be able to Winclone 3 the Windows as a whole thing as it's appearing not to have issues but it's your MacintoshHD partition that is so that will have to be rebuilt from scratch.
    Most commonly used backup methods
If your OS X parititon doesn't boot, you can use this to recover files.
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
Without any further detail about your machine I can't advise specifically what to do, but it involves using Disk Utility to Zero Erase (move slider one spot to the right or in 10.6 using Security Option) the ENTIRE boot drive and reformatting, then installing OSX fresh and then setting up BootCamp again.
If you wish to switch your boot drive for something better, this is a good time to do this.
Install/upgrade RAM or storage drive in Mac's
If your machine is capable of Internet Recovery, then use that, then upgrade.
If your machine came with 10.6 or earlier, then use the 10.6 install disks and work up from there.

After inserting a new SSI using the insert menu  (typical code result: <!--#include virtual="/redesign/includes/quickClicks.htm" -->) the properties bar seems to get stuck .. displaying the ssi code and not allowing me to select other elements on the page to edit properties.  A restart of Dreamweaver solves the problem.  But boy is this annoying.
All of the includes do display properly when uploaded to the web server and viewed in a browser.

I would really appreciate your help.  I am a web designer and have used Dreamweaver for many, many years.

Nice site.  I drive by that school quite often when I shop in Thousand Oaks.
Crashes, installation, JavaScript errors, and unexplained problems
If Dreamweaver is acting erratically, or if you see a message saying "the following JavaScript error(s) occurred",  it's usually a sign of a corrupt cache file. The first thing to try should always be to delete the file cache. If that doesn't work, delete your personal Configuration folder. Full instructions are in Deleting a corrupted cache file.

  • Design View Nonworkable - Fine in Browsers and Validation

    Hi!
I have year old sites and new sites using CSS and server side
includes (both php and asp) that are nonworkable in design view in
Dreamweaver CS3. Sites were fine in Macromedia 8 but not now. My
very old sites are fine - they are straight HTML sites.
I have read several past posts on this problem and ruled out
many of the solutions for my case. My pages are clean in WC3
validation (meaning no errors) - since this is what Adobe
Dreamweaver support was concerned about when I took out an support
incident with them. The sites display fine in 6 browsers, but not
in DW CS3 now that I upgraded. This makes no sense.
I see some answers that CS3 is not as tolerant as before of
bad coding. This is not the issue, it is validated and displaying
    across browsers fine.
I and my staff are crippled working on these sites now that
we have all upgraded to CS3 with the way they are displaying.
Here are some pages that I am having problems with:
    http://www.scandpg.org/meeting_event.php
    http://www.eatrightny.org/about/about_site.php
    http://www.eatrightmissouri.org/jobs/index.asp
(site workign on now, not live)
    http://www.hada.com/about/board.asp
I have found if I uncheck server side includes in preferences
for invisible elements I can work on the content better, but this
is a workaround but does not resolve the fact that DW is not
displaying coding in view correctly and still leaves some issues
    when developing a site.
Thanks for your help in shedding light on this as I may be
off. My conclusions are drawn from a support incident/ticket with
Adobe on this very same thing, looking at the DW forum postings
over the last six months on this and my own recent experiences.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Healthy regards,
    Teresa

If you want to work in DW, then you must adopt this approach
    to the use of
    server-side includes:
    > The parent file is the ONLY one that can contain
    <html>, <head>, or <body>
    > tags.
    > The include files cannot contain those tags.
    > The final assembled page must therefore only contain one
    instance of each
    > with its associated closing tag.
That seems to be your largest problem.

  • Design view of CSS layout is innacurate

    Hello all -
I'm beginning to redraft my company's hompage using a full
CSS layout instead of our current nested table layout. Since I need
to ensure that other staff members can edit pages freely - and I'm
the only person comfortable doing straight code - it's important
that the design view is as accurate as possible.
When editing in Dreamweaver 8, my three column layout (a left
table of contents, a center content column, and an additional
content right column) breaks so that the table of contents
dissapears. Some people have spoken with have suggested that my
problem might be the negative margins I'm using to position the
floated columns that form the meat of the page.
You can view the page here:
    http://www.southernenvironment.org/test/home_redraft.html
    The CSS is here:
    http://www.southernenvironment.org/test/style_redraft.css
In addition, the header navbar also appears strangely. In
Design View, two word titles (ie. "Our Programs") break on to two
separate lines, instead of staying in one line as they do in
    browsers I've tested.
The frustrating thing about this is that my design seems to
work in most browsers - but without a somewhat accurate
representation in Dreamweaver, I won't be able to sell the idea of
a standards-based revamp to other staff here.
    Any ideas?
    Matt

Your CSS is not tight enough to get accurate columns. You
    shouldn't try to
define the columns with the body tag. For a purely CSS site,
    you really find
out why the code is called 'cascading' styles. They cascade
    all right. We've
just finished wrestling with a similar re-design with CSS and
    the order of
how tags and files come into play is very important.
We have defined the body tag with background color, 0 margins
    and font
family, color and size only. Header/footer and columns are
    defined by ID.
The three "content" columns are within a page container,
    header and footer
outside the page container. How these elements are placed is
    important, as
    they cascade.
We use 3 linked main css files, 1) Page Layout (3 or 4
    different options) 2)
Page presentation (all text styles) 3) Page menu styles (only
    menu styles).
They are in that order, as the only body tag is in Page
    Layout.
If a page has a watermarked background we import the code
    just for the
    watermark.
This is not true for the home page, but all other pages in
    the site.

    I hope this helps.

  • Design view in DreamWeaver CS3 disabled for CSS & Java

I currently use Adobe Dreamweaver CS3, and only some files have the option to view them in code AND in design view. This works for most files (HTML, PHP, etc). However, anytime I create a new CSS or Java file, the design view is disabled:
I have already tried the two other solutions I've found in this forum.
First I tried Preferences > File Types / Editors, and I deleted all of the file types in the "Open in Code View" menu (pictured below).
I restarted DW, and it didn't work.
Then I tried several steps to re-create the Configuration folder (which it did, but the problem remained) listed here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/401/kb401118.html.
Still nothing. HTML, PHP, ASP and all other files have the Design View and Split View available, but CSS and Java do not. I would really like to use DW to start editing CSS, but do not know it well enough to write in code and therefore could really use that handy Design View so I can learn as I tweak it.
Any help much appreciated - thanks!

HTML, PHP, ASP and all other files have the Design View and Split View available, but CSS and Java do not.
That's correct. That's as it should be.
A CSS file contains a bunch of text only CSS rules. Javascript is text-only script. There's no layout to see for CSS and JS files in Design and Split View so they're disabled.
Files with layout e.g. .htm, .php have Design View because they're web pages with a layout which can be viewed.
I would really like to use DW to start editing CSS, but do not know it well enough to write in code and therefore could really use that handy Design View so I can learn as I tweak it.
Open any .htm or .php (or other) web page and its associated CSS file.
Then tweak the CSS either via Code View in the CSS file, or using the DW CSS Editor when viewing the .htm/.php file, and see the formatting changes applied in Design View in the .htm (or .php) file.
Do not rely on DW's Design View as an absolute reference for pixel perfect accuracy. It will always be an approximation only to assist visually oriented web designers while editing.
Always test all CSS rules and edits in a range of browsers. Browser support for CSS rules and effects varies. Not all browsers support everything on offer in CSS1, CSS2 and CSS3.
