Aspect Ratio Behavior - how to disable.

I currently have a rectangle sprite with line border of 1px.
Now when I resize it larger AS seems to be maintaining aspect ratio
on its line width... I would like it to preserve the original
thickness. Can someone point me in the right direction for
controlling this behaviour?

Set your graphics lineStyle width to 0, which will render the
border as a hairline and will remain a hairline width regardless of
the scale value of the rectangle.
mySprite.graphics.lineStyle(0, ....);

  • Printing with different aspect ratio (or, How not to crop when print?)

    Hi all,
    I'm trying to print 3:2 aspect ratio pictures on 8 1/2 X 11 (US Letter page).
    Obviously, it's not the same aspect ratio, so normally fitting such 3:2 image in, -say- photoshop would require me to either CROP the picture or have white BORDERS around it, on either side.
    Now, printing in iPhoto will only offer croping, which is definetly not what I want. I can and will live with 2 white bars on my picture; I do own cutting table just for that. But I'm not used to iPhoto.
    Quickly, in Aperture I can print as I want it, 2 white bars, whole picture fitting IN the paper (there's also a mode called 'Fill Page'; which is exactly and only what iPhoto is doing).
    *The question:*
    Am I missing something out on how to print while fitting the whole image on paper (also called 'Fit Entire Image' in Aperture), while adding white paper bars?
    Also, I readed this thread, mostly about it:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1417869
    I knew the maths part.
    So what I'm doing as a long workaroung (see below for shorter workaround):
    I calculate using the custom Print size (see this screenshot, from user Old Toad, which is exactly what I'm telling about: http://homepage.mac.com/toad.hall/.Pictures/Forum/iP7customprint.png ) manually, so I get as Paper Size : US Letter and as Print size: Custom with these custom settings:
    Width: 11.00 in
    Height: 7.30 in
    It's all fine, the print was perfect. But I don't feel like messing each time with these numbers only to print one page.
    Quicker solution: import into Aperture (and even there, if you are using RAW in iPhoto, the imported in Aperture is the JPEG based off the RAW ((apparently Aperture cannot understand iPhoto's way of working with RAW, but this is another topic)) ).
    Thanks! Sorry, it was quite long for nothing, I'm just really missing the 'Fit entire image' on iPhoto... (that is, if it's non-existing, not if I only just didn't found it yet..)

    Numbers:
    Camera resolution:
    roughly 3008X2000 (Nikon D50)
    Paper printed on: good old fasioned 8 1/2 X 11 US Letter sized
    Ratio of picture: roughly 1.5 (one size is 1.5 time the other)
    Ratio of paper: around 1.29 (one size is 1.29 time the other)
    The picture overflows in lenght of the paper (iPhoto take the picture's width and places it 8.5 in wide, so technically the paper size should be 12.75 to perfectly fit the ratio. But I only have 8 1/2 X 11 and I do love to cut paper.)

  • What is aspect ratio and how can you change it?

    Please refer to my other post for more information on these photos. The photos I am referring to are the ones that appear blank in the edit screen.
    When I try to export these photos to facebook using the exporter, it says that IPhoto can only deal with photos with an aspect ratio of 3:1 or lower, and that the photos selected have a greater aspect ratio. What is aspect ratio and if possible, how do you change it? This may be directly linked to my other problem with the same pics.

    I'm having the same trouble. Zapplications will upload only 1920x1920 photos. With iPhoto I can't get past the automatic ratio of 1920x1440!!! There MUST be some way to customize photo size on iPhoto!! Please help!! I've tried cropping the photo to a square and still can't get past this ratio thing.

  • How do I restore all images in a collection to original imported aspect ratio?

    Typically I select all images in a catalog, resize the first image to 640x480.  I then right click on the first image (all images are still selected) click on Develop Settings, Sync and choose to sync only the aspect ratio.  All images are then cropped to 640x480 like the first image, which I then export to a folder.
    I then need to restore all images to the original aspect ratio for building a slideshow to export to my website.  I've followed the same procedure i.e. selected all images, click on the first image, change aspect to original, right click on first image and sync aspect ratio for all images.
    The problem is that the rest of the images do not return to their original aspect ratio but revert to 4x6 aspect ratio instead of the original size when imported.  I've changed the lock to unlocked and tried both but still no result.  Now I have to select each image individually, open the crop dialog and choose custom to get it back to the imported aspect ratio.
    How do I batch restore all images in a collection to the aspect ratio when imported?

    Rotating an image is adjusting its crop rotation and crop size.  You originally said you wanted things back to import state which presumably was full resolution w/o any adjustments to ratio, size, or rotation.  If you are wanting to do things in the middle of your other processing I'm less sure what to tell you.
    Taking a crop that you have at 3:2 and setting it to 4:3 shrinks in the longer sides, and resetting the ratio to 3:2 shrinks down the shorter top and bottom--this is how it always works, because a crop box is not ever expanded by setting the ratio to something different, and changing the ratio back and forth like that makes the crop-box smaller and smaller.
    Are you having an issue because you want to fiddle with the crop in the middle of other processing every time, or is this a special case because you've moved on in your processing after asking your question some time ago?
    If you routinely need to do this, an easier way might be to export the images at the 3:2 crop, then reimport those JPGs, change the crop on those JPGs, only, then re-export them a second time, and be done with them.  This sounds like you're making proofs?
    If you are making proof-sized images at a different ratio?  Why not just export the 3:2 images at a smallish size, perhaps with a watermark and not have to worry about making them 4:3 ratio?
    Another alternative would be to print the images to JPGs instead of a printer, and set the paper size to a 4:3 ratio and turn on the Fill option--which will chop of the long sides automatically as it prints them.

  • How to change DV/DVCPRO video to 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio in Final Cut Pro X?

    I shot some DV video footage on a Canon XL2 in 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio mode. I captured it on a Firestore and imported it into Final Cut Pro X, and it is now being displayed in an incorrect standard 4:3 aspect ratio.
    How can I change the aspect ratio of the video within FCPX once I've imported it?
    I've tried playing with the Spatial Conform setting for the video file, but that keeps it in a standard aspect ratio and fits or fills the video into a different aspect ratio. So that's not the answer.
    I've tried an old trick I used when working with DV widescreen video and iDVD, but this process doesn't fix the aspect ratio in FCPX. Here's the article for your reference:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2179
    Did Apple forget that DV/DVCPRO video--although standard def--can be displayed in 4:3 or 16:9? It seems to force it to 4:3.
    Thanks.

    @daguerratype
    The Spatial Conform is one of the things I tried. Unfortunately none of its settings fixed the aspect ratio. When I choose "Fit", it simply shows it as 4:3 and leaves left and right black borders on a 16:9 timeline. When I choose "Fill", it zooms the 4:3 video and chops off the top and bottom parts.
    @Thomas Emmerich
    This is a decent workaround. Fortunately my clips are named in such a way that I can easily drop them all in the timeline and do a Command-F (Find) to search by clip name, highlight all of them in the search results, then use the Inspector to modify the properties of all the clips at once. I have to change X-scale to 133% and Spatial Conform to "Fit", and now at least it fits the 16:9 timeline properly.
    Thanks to both replies. I still hope Apple adds a way to fix the clip in the Event browser so that I don't have to do this workaround.

  • Aspect Ratio UNlock?

    I'm using Keynote '09 and I can't figure out how to unlock the aspect ratio on images I paste onto a slide. I know that pressing "shift" locks the aspect ratio but how do I unlock it? I have a presentation due next week and being able to figure this out will really enhance my slides. Thank you for your help, it's much appreciated.

    There are two approaches available:
    resize:     click Inspector in the toolbar, click the Metrics inspector button, deselect “Constrain proportions” then drag the corner handles to resize
    mask:     select the image and then click the Mask button in the toolbar (Format > Mask) then reposition and resize the mask and image

  • Photoshop to dreamweaver viewable in all aspect ratios

    after importing a photoshop designed site into dreamweaver how do you convert all tables/images to percents?
    I designed a website in photoshop and exported it for web and devices. Now I want to make the website available for all aspect ratios. In order to do that I need the table containing the images to be a fixed percent such as 95% height and width and ALL the images and tables inside the site to be correct proportions to be able to scale with the website to be able to expand and contract and be viewable on all aspect ratios! How do I do this in dreamweaver?!??!?!

    after importing a photoshop designed site into dreamweaver how do you convert all tables/images to percents?
    If this page is to be displayed on the web, the answer is you don't.  Using Photoshop (or FW) HTML as a real-world web page is a dreadful mistake.  That code is intended for, and only designed to be useful for rapid prototyping, i.e., creating demonstration pages that are used in controlled environments.  When used on the web (i.e., a non-controlled environment), such pages develop gaps and breaks between layout elements and generally fall apart unexpectedly.
    How do I do this in dreamweaver?!??!?!
    DW has no such 'Easy button'.  To convert a table-based layout containing images to what you are describing would require careful and tedious manual modification to the code.  In addition, browsers are not particularly smart at enlarging images (using only a pixel doubling method to do so).  This causes photographic images to degrade in cosmetic appearance quite rapidly, particularly when you exceed the pixel content of the original image.  Of course, you could always start with the highest quality, largest dimension image you have for each such image, but then your page would likely weigh more than Manhattan when you finished.
    In other words, there aren't great ways to achieve what you are asking for.

  • Exporting 3:2 aspect ratio ntsc avi

    Hey can anyone tell me how I can export 3:2 avi from FCP 5? It seems it will only let me export 4:3 in ntsc

    more info needed, what codec are you outputting to? what is the frame size? what is the pixel aspect ratio? how is it being delivered?
    needless to say 3:2 is not a typical "pro" broadcast aspect ratio ... rather, 4:3 is a typical for SD, 16:9 for HD
    if you're a self-help 'explore my options' kind of guy, then have a look at the Export > Using Quicktime Conversion >> Format: AVI >> Options and/or Export > Using Compressor

  • Running fullscreen on monitors with different aspect ratios

    I am trying to run a program in fullscreen on a projector. It works fine on my computer, but the background image appears stretched when I run it on a projector with a different aspect ratio. How can I run it as to prevent this?
    This is how the code looks:
    @Override
         public void start(Stage primaryStage)
              this.PrimaryStage = primaryStage;
              this.PrimaryStage.setFullScreen(true);
              ......which runs with this CSS file:
    #background{
        -fx-background-image: url("background-full.png");
        -fx-background-repeat: stretch;
        -fx-background-position: center center;
        -fx-background-size: auto 100%;
        -fx-background-color: black;
    }

    Don't stretch the repeat
    -fx-background-repeat: no-repeat;
    AND
    -fx-background-size: cover;
    Scale the image, while preserving its intrinsic aspect ratio (if any), to the smallest size such that both its width and its height can completely cover the background positioning area.
    Or
    -fx-background-size: contain;
    Scale the image, while preserving its intrinsic aspect ratio (if any), to the largest size such that both its width and its height can fit inside the background positioning area.
    Contain will provide a kind of letter box effect like watching an old 4:3 tv show a widescreen 16:9 TV.
    Cover will fill the screen with the image bug clip some of the image if the screen and image aspect ratios don't match.

  • Cropping with 4:3 aspect ratio

    I have a 1920x1080 video that I want to crop to a 4:3 aspect ratio.
    I'm working with compressor 3.
    When I set "crop original" to "4x3 1,33:1", I cannot manipulate the cropping. It is fixed to left=240, right=240, top=0 and bottom=0.
    This results in 1440x1080 4x3, that's correct. But what I'd like to do is crop the top and bottom, too, while keeping the 4:3 aspect ratio.
    How do i do that?
    When I set "crop original" to "custom" (I hope I translated that correctly), cropping left, top, right and bottom is possible. I manipulate the red rectangle in the preview window  and the cropping changes accordingly. Now how do I tell compressor to keep the 4:3 aspect ratio while manipulating/zooming with the red rectangle? I don't want to calculate the cropping, this is way too cumbersome.

    To elaborate on my answer this morning (I was running late to a meeting):
    Once you know the cropped height, you could let the app do some of the math by choosing Custom 4:3 in Dimensions and entering the new number. t will calculate the width for you.  Then in the Crop section you need to enter the difference between your source frame width (1920) and the width that Compressor calculated and then divide the difference by two to get the other padding value.
    There is, unfortunately, no completely automatic way that I know of to do it.

  • "Aspect ratio" error on build

    So, when I go to "build" my final disk, I get an error, saying, "The aspect raio of this file is not supported by DVD." However, even after changing the "interpret footage" options for my video files, I get the same error. The aspect ratios (I thought) for my videos are 720x480, which I thought was an acceptable aspect ratio.
    How do I fix this? Thanks.

    That is the resolution. What PAR are you using? It should be 0,9 for 4:3 projects, assuming NTSC.

  • How to fix an error in sequnece setting (aspect ratio)?

    Hi,
    I have been working for a while on a project in CS4. I have created a sequence in it with an aspect ratio (AR) of 4:3 - worked for hours on it - but I should had the sequence created instead in 16:9. I realised it a bit too late...
    So how do I fix it?
    Apparently amending the sequence setting for AR cannot be done - please let me know if there is any way of doing this.
    Someone suggested editing the PRPROJ file of the project - but when I opened it I was unable to detect under the sequence name (I found a few entries with it) where I can easily change the sequence to 16:9.
    So then I found people suggesting I copy/paste all the assets from the sequence into a new one that is correctly configured with 16:9. When I did this - CTRL+A and Copy, then paste into a new sequence in the same project - it copied all the clips and I think also all the transitions. But the key element that it did not copy over were all the changes I have done to the sound - I have been editing via the sound mixer (in Write mode) the sound, and then also made changes to the master track volume levels. These were not copied over.
    I really don't want to have to do the mixing all over again. If someone can explain how I can fix the problem in any way I would be most thankful.
    While I am here asking - another 2 small questions that have been bugging me:
    How I can copy and paste volume keyframes from either the master track or a clip and apply it on another clip/section of the clip that would be very helpful. This would for example be useful if I am able to find a certain volume level that I would like to apply to the desired section without the need to sit and "record" (using the Write function) those settings on the desired area. If there is any means to apply the properties on audio track this way - that would be really useful and time saving.
    A best practice hint: when you try and create a sound level for a project - what PC volume level setting do you set in your PC that you use as a benchmark by which we then work out the sound level that would be created in the project? Obviously if I push my PC volume al the way up I would probably mix my sound in the project too low. And if I set the PC volume too low - than I would probably be setting the overall sound level too high and get distortion. As the movies I created would be burnt onto a DVD - what is the volume level on the PC (if there is any means of establishing a standard volume) that I need to match first before I go and figure out what level of sound the finished DVD would have? Of course I can work on say a 50% and then apply gains and volume increases based on that 50% of the max sound my PC plays out. But that sounds pretty much like a random setting and not optimised for other devices.
    My system:
    Windows 7, 32-bit
    CS4, v. 4.2.1
    This looks like a fairly basic question but I am unable to find a good answer to it...
    Many thanks to the person who shows me how this can be done without me going crazy over the need to start all over again...
    Eroka00

    Hi Ann,
    Your tip saved me a lot of time indeed....!
    So I created a new sequence, made sure it was 16:9, copy pasted all of the assets, but then had to do the following:
    1. Copy/Paste Attributes for all the video clips (these do not transfer);
    2. As you suggested used the whole of the old sequence as a nested sequence in the new one, eliminating the video altogether.
    I still had a nagging issue that the project would not render or export well - but that turned out to be an issue with rendeiring large files (the video was an uncut clip of almost 10GB, andother of 6GB). Splicing these into 10 minute segments and rendering them separately did the trick.
    It's ben amlong Xmas weekend and endless hours spendt on this project. Yaikes!
    Thanks for the workaround idea!

  • How can i export a series of images in different aspect ratios to the same height

    How can i export a series of images in different aspect ratios to the same height?
    I wish to make a slider callery for my website. all the images need to be 750 Pixels high, the width does not matter.  I have a mixture of square pandscap and protraite images can i do thing as one export or do i have to do it twice?  Once for long edge and once for shot edge?
    Thanks

    Yes, you can but there is a trick to it.
    In the Export Dialog under <Image Sizing> select Widdth & Height.
    Then enter 750 pixels for Height.
    Put your cursor into the Width field behind all the numbers that appear there and with the backspace key delete the numbers. If you enter "0" it will not accept that. But it accepts when you just delete the field for Width with the backspace key. The Width field will now be just blank.
    When you then export all image will  have a height of 750 pixels and the width will fall variously according to thne height / width ratio.
    Or alternatively you can enter 7.5" for height at a resolution of 100 ppi.

  • How do I get SD video (4:3 aspect ratio) to fill the entire screen?

    Any 4:3 video I stream has black bars on either side of the picture. I have a Samsung HDTV, and I can stream content using its own pc to tv streaming software and 4:3 videos fill the entire screen. Or if I play a DVD with 4:3 aspect ratio that will also automatically fill the screen. With the Apple TV I cannot make it fill the entire screen. Is this something to do with the signal being transmitted over an HDMI cable?
    Has anyone else had this problem, and if so how have you resolved it?

    I know it is displaying 4:3 video correctly, however I'd prefer if there was some stretching (non-linear) so that it fills the entire screen. Having 2 big black bars on either side gets very annoying. There doesnt seem to be an option to fill the entire screen when streaming from the apple tv. There are options when streaming from Samsung's own software (I don't want to use samsungs pc share manager as the apple tv's user interface is much better).
    Are my options restricted because the signal is transmitted through an hdmi cable? Seems to be what other websites might be suggesting.
