Assembling a movie from scenes

I am creating a movie of my grandson's first 18 months drawing from over 100 clips. Rather than working with all these clips at once, I've separated the clips into events (birth, infancy, first steps, etc.) I would like to assemble a SCENE for each of these events and then assemble the MOVIE by combing the scenes with the appropriate transition. Is there a way to use this scene-by-scene approach in IMovie 10? Thanks in advance for advice. (While I am new to IMovie, I am not new to editing. I started with 16mm film and a splicing block in 1965,)

Another reason might be something about the Handbrake conversion, even though Handbrake says its conversions can be imported and edited in iMovie.
But not if they contain extraneous track data like "chapter", secondary AC3 audio, soft subtitles, etc.

You've tried restarting the film ? If it still skips then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that film and use the 'Report a Problem' link and fill in details about the problem (iTunes support should reply within, I think, 24 to 48 hours).
Some people have had a problem with the 'report a problem' link (it's been taking people to this site on a browser instead of showing a form in iTunes) - if it does that to you then try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page.

  • How can I import an m4v movie from my desktop to my event Library in iMovie?

How can I import an m4v movie from my desktop to my event Library in iMovie?  I want to include the m4v movie into another project in iMovie.

When you import DV Stream from tape, iMovie 11 will assume that you are importing raw footage from a camera, rather than a finished movie. It will create a new clip everytime it detects a scene break (the record start/stop button was pressed). These clips will be placed in chronolgical order - not the order they were on the tape.
One way around this is to import the tape into the application that you used to create it. For example, if you used iMovie 6, import the tape back into imovie 6. In iMovie 6, you can export the tape back out using FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME. Choose the DV codec in an MOV container.  You can then import this MOV file into iMovie 11 and have everything in the proper order for your finished movie.
Another option is to use FInal Cut Pro X.

  • How do I deleted a movie from an iDVD project

I created an iDVD project using a movie, and have decided to go back into iMovie and make changes to the movie I am using for this project. Since I have put so much time into putting photos and music in submenus, I want to use the same project I created, just replace the old movie with the new. I cannot figure out how to delete the old movie from the project. I have shared the new one thru Media Browser, and it is ready to be added, but I first need to delete the prior version from the iDVD project.
Anyone know how to do this? Thanks.

READ THE ENTIRE MESSAGE BEFORE DELETING ANYTHING !!!
To delete a movie from iDVD: Open iDVD. Click once on the movie title to highlight it. Hit Delete. It should disappear in a poof of smoke.
If you have chapters in your movie, you need to delete the Scene Selection text button also.
But, when you reopen iDVD after changing your movie, before doing anything in iDVD, iDVD should give you a message that your 'assets have changed' and ask if you want iDVD to update. Click on yes/ok, but check your iDVD project before burning. The way it is supposed to work is that iDVD recognizes that you have made changes to your iMovie, uses the revised iMovie in its files instead of the first one, and uses the updated iMovie when you burn to disk or create a disk image. It is a nice feature so that you do not have to delete the iMovie already in iDVD and have to put in your updated newer version; iDVD is supposed to add the update itself, using the newer version of iMovie. It worked that way in iDVD 6.
However, if you have an iMovie with chapters, what happens with iDVD 8/9, as opposed to iDVD 6, is that iDVD does indeed recognize the changes and sends the 'do you want to update' message, but if you tell iDVD to go ahead and update, the chapters will no longer select correctly. They all will default to the same chapter no matter which one is selected.
I can't tell you whether or not iDVD will correctly play the updated movie if you don't have chapters. You will just have to try it.
If you do have chapters and/or incorporating the changes in iMovie does not work, the only 'fix' is to recreate the iDVD project. It takes time but is not difficult since you have done it once. Open a new iDVD project and put the updated iMovie into it. Do a "Save as Disk Image" to create a disk image file of your iDVD project. Play the disk image file with DVD Player. If it plays correctly, burn your disks from the disk image file using Disk Utility or Toast. You can delete the old iDVD project.
    Good luck with it!

  • Movie with scenes

How can I make a movie with scenes go back to menu after each scene?

    Hi
May be You mean this ?
Play all resp one chapter at a time
    Play All Button
    1. There are NO - Play All - button in any version of iDVD
    2. It can be faked in several ways
    • Easiest and most fault proof way is to make a doublet movie containing All and with
Chapters set to match. It will take up x2 space but is easy to understand and produce.
Cons: Tried this in iMovie’11 by Exporting out each part as a full Quality QT.mov then Importing back into new events and putting these into a new project (Play All project). Resulting DVD had Audio that was OK (as parts) - BUT the picture was very bad and standing photo were cut of in hight. So the Play All movie has to be created from same material and exactly in the same way as the individual parts + then Chapters has to be set to match.
    • It's said that one can put all movies into a Photo/SlideShow and this will also
give the function of a Play All button - Tested - and ONE HAS TO un-cheque - Scale pictures to TV-Safe area else it will be a black frame all around and a small picture !
    Mike Evangelist1
You might be able to get close to what you want by using a slideshow in iDVD. (It's not widely known, but you can put videos in a slideshow.) If you set the slide duration to manual, playback will pause after each movie/slide, and you can continue with the 'next' button.
    3. Using another program to do this e.g.. Roxio Toast™ where there is a Play All button option.
    Summary
    a. Making a Play All movie with same care as the individual Part movies - gives a very Good Result
    b. Using Roxio Toast™ - also an usable way to go
    Yours Bengt W

Never mind - I was doing something very stupid and wasn't
calling the function as a method of a movie clip. I was simply
    calling checkTarget(event) rather than
    event.currentTarget.checkTarget(event); which seems to work.

  • How do I stop my movie from playing?

I have used previous versions of Adobe Flash and now have Professional CS5.5, and I am coming to you with an embarrasingly, ridiculously stupid question that is absolutely stumping me. My movie cannot stop playing, no matter how many stop(); I've embedded in there. I created a layer on top, added the stop(); code at the end of the scene, and the swf ignores it and starts playing the next scene. As an experiment, I put a stop(); on the very first frame of the .fla, but that too is ignored. I have dozens of stop(); action commands riddled throughout the movie, but not a one of them is capable of stopping the exported movie from playing and looping. I assume there must be some simple, easy property or code trick or document preference or something that I've overlooked, but I can't for the life of me figure out what it is. I thought stop(); was one of the easiest commands of all, but apparently it has stumped me. Help!

This is literally what I have in the first frame of the actions layer of the Main Menu....
             stop();
...and when I export into a .swf movie, the movie does not stop.
Update: in case anyone wants to know, all that is on the stage on the first frame are three images, two of which are at the beginning of a motion tween. There are movie clips and buttons elsewhere in the movie, but none exist on the first frame. FYI.

  • I Movie HD quits while loading movie from desktop

I am assembling a movie, importing still pictures in jpg format. After saving my work 2 days ago, upon booting up iMovie HD the next day it starts to load the project from the desktop, prompts with box asking if I want to view the trash. Regardless of how I respond to the prompt, the program freezes with the spinning ball then quits and the Finder menu appears at the top of the screen. I've tried force quitting to no avail. The program indicates I have 350MB RAM left. How do I get back into my project?
    i Mac 2 GHz Intel Duo Core 21"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Hi HAMoore - welcome to the forum!
"....The program indicates I have 350MB RAM left...."
Are you sure that is what it is indicating? Normally it will be telling how many GB of storage is left un-used. RAM is a quite different type of memory. Could you be running short on storage space? 'Get Info' about your hard drive and see what it says about available storage. Ideally for smooth functioning, a good 10% of your HD should be kept clear. Also remember that iMovie consumes 1 GB for every 5 minutes of footage.

  • Not able to export quicktime movie from Flash CS5 or CS6.

Hi! I am not able to export quicktime movie from Flash CS5 or CS6. When I export it the progress bar is showing and says Recording Flash content and nothing happens

I havent exported any videos in the past from Flash. The movie is around 45 seconds and the size is 470KB.
I tried both, the memory and the hard drive.
In the attached image you can see the settings and in the other image you can see the progress bar that remains without something to happen.
I dont mind what type of video to export it can be also .avi but again I have troubles there. It is very large and the animation is distorted.
The animation consist from two scenes. The first one can be exported without any problem but the second one cannot be exported. May be because it has some masks layers and guide layers?

  • Going back from scene 2 to particular moment in scene 1

    Hello all,
I have encountered a problem, and I need help from more experienced flash users.
I am creating a webpage in flash, and for now, it consists of 3 scenes. First one is a loading bar, scene 2 is a main page with all menus, and on 3rd scene there is a gallery. I plan to make many galleries, each in different scene. Everything is ok to the moment, when I want to go back from scene 3 to scene 2. Scene 2 consists of many layers and movieclips, however, the main timeline consists only of one frame. When, in scene 2, I will get to the moment from which I am going to scene 3, so to some gallery, then after I am comming back to scene 2 (via gotoAndPlay('Scene 2', 1)), I am getting to scene in a state, as I see it just after loading bar disappears. But I want to be in a place, from which I went to scene 3. How do I achieve this? I think, there should be a way of remembering status of the scene 2 in such a way, that after comming back from scene 3 I would be in the same place from which I left to the mentioned scene 3. Be advised, that scene 2 is in one frame, and all movement in the scene 2 is done by actionscript and movieclips. I am using AS2.0.
I hope I explained it in understandable way, let me know if there is a need for clarification.
please help me before I will go crazy
    thanks!

When you use scenes, which I am recommending you don't mainly because they can be unpredictably problematic when it comes to mixing in navigation, when you compile the file, everything gets clumped into one long timeline anyways, so your reason for using them isn't holding.
If you plan to have galleries, then going with a design that loads them dynamically rather than storing the content in the file is the best way to go.   If you take a movieclip approach you can create your whole design in just one frame of the main timeline, loading your galleries when called for, and controlling other content via changing visibility or other properties.
But even if you spread things along the one scene's timeline, you can have variables that you assign status info to that can be retained for the length of the timeline so that if you return to a section you can use those variables to set things back up to whatever status they should have.

i'm sorry you aren't making any sense to me....i put a stop()

  • Move from HIS 2010 to HIS 2013

We are in a process of upgrading our servers to Windows Server 2012.  This is done by installing new servers. We will install HIS 2013 on Windows 2012 Server . We have a lot of HIS 2010 objects (both WIP and HIP) which we want to move over. WIP objects
are currently hosted as ASP.NET Worker process on HIS 2010. Is it possible to move these objects to HIS 2013 just using generated dll's from VS 2010/HIS 2010 ? I know that it is possible to upgrade 2010 to 2013, but we have installed an empty HIS 2013, and
want to do a "move" from HIS 2010 and run 2010/2013 in parallel. I am also looking for docs how to "Connect" HIS 2013 to IIS using TICT to IIS as we did in TI in HIS 2010 when we deployed Objects hosted as ASP.NET Worker process.
    Jan Terje

    Hello Jan,
I've done this kind of migration last year with more than 1500 TI Objects :-)
Yes, it's possible to move easy from HIS 2010 to HIS 2013 by converting the TI Objects using the TIConversionTool (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Host Integration Server 2013\SysWow64).
The Problem with the TIConversionTool is that it doesn't replace directly the assemblies but it creates a folder structure with the converter TI Object. It's also possible to Open the HIS 2010 TI Objects in Visual Studio 2010/2012 with HIS 2013. The Objects
will be converted after you are saving again the Assemblies.
In addition you have to change your web.config files because the HIS Assembly Version has changed from 7.0 to 9.0.
Please let me know if you need more information or help !

  • How to move a scene in the timeline?

    Hello All,
I have about an hour of footage in my timeline. In that hour of footage I have about 25 scenes. In each scene I have made several edits.
How do I move one scene to another part of the timeline? If I go to scene 5 and I use the double arrow tool it highlights all the footage from 5 until the end of the timeline. What I want to do is just "cut" the 10 edited shots that make up scene 5 and "paste" them to another point in the timeline. Every tool I have tried won't allow me to just highlight all the footage in scene 5 (so keep in mind there are several edits in scene 5. it is no longer one long piece of video).
Can this be done in FCE?
    Thanks,
    Mike

Click on the first clip of the scene then hold down the Shift key as you click the end clip. Make sure the cursor is the standard selection tool - A

  • Test Movie from middle instead of always from the start

Is it possible to test my movie/scene from a specific position in my movie?
When I make subtle changes, I don't always want to preview my movie from the beginning, and when the movie gets long, it takes a while to make small changes when I have to preview my movie every 5 seconds.
So is there anyway to preview my movie from a certain spot in my animation?

Thank you very much, that's working great.
One last question if I may ask. Is there a way now to make a stopping value?
So if I want to test my movie from frames 200-400, is there a way to view these frames in the movie and continually loop through it.
So I put gotoAndPlay(200); in the first line of my actionscript code.
Now how could I get the movie to play up until frame 400 and then stop or loop back to frame 200 and repeat?
Is that possible? I found the code gotoAndStop(), but that only freezes the frame on that frame in the movie.
Again though, I appreciate the help.
