Assessment questions in LearnCenter LMS

Gentlefolk;
I am looking for someone who has experience using Captivate v. 4 in the LearnCenter/Taleo LMS.
I have created assessments in SCORM 1.2 format for the LearnCenter, and they track and score properly. Learn has the ability to display results at the question level - who responded how to which question. I have a client who wants this.
But the Learn Report Builder tool is not picking up assessments created by Captivate 4. It will display this level of detail with assessments built with its own assessment tool, but that is such an arduous tool to work with, I have abanded that for Captivate. I thought SCORM was SCORM and I could get the Learn report system to display the question-level detail.
Not happenin' for me, however.
Is there anyone out there with this experience and can assist me in figuring out what I am doing wrong?

Hmmm..and maybe I have my answer. I had run the SCORM settings basically at their default settings. Worked well enough and the Learn LMS could talk to the Captivate data, so I was pretty happy.
But under Reporting Level, I have used Report Score, and NOT Interactions and Score. Will the Interactions and Score give me the question-level responses I am seeking?

Branching to particular assessment questions within one CP File

Wondering if this functionality works. My course has two branching paths midway through the course, depending on the type of job role (Job Role #1 views certain slides in the course, and Job Role #2 views other slides in the course).
At the end of the course, there is a SCORM assessment. Course will be uploaded to an LMS and learners have to pass with a certain score.
Some questions in the assessment will be for both job roles and others will be only for either Job Role #1 or Job Role #2. My question is, can the user branch to the appropriate assessment questions for their job only and have it scored correctly in the LMS? I'm not sure this is possible since you can't have multiple assessments in one CP file. Thank you.

How do I identify Presenter Questions in a LMS report?

Hi,
We've put together 25 questions in Presenter and set it up to report from our LMS (e2train).
We need to know what users answer for each of the questions and can pull off a report that shows the results ok.
The problem is that we have no identifier for the 25 questions.
For each user the report shows the following columns:
Description (blank for all 25 qs);
Type (q type),
Learner Response (What they selected);
Result (correct or incorrect).
How do I get Presenter to identify each question?

Can you display what code you used for this? I followed note 172045.1 and everything compiles properly but when I run the report, I just get a box with a red X in it, like it is not finding the picture. I ran the procedure that downloads the image and it works fine from there. Thanks.

MVA SQL Server Query Assessment question

Hi Guys
I was doing a course on MVA, Querying Microsoft SQL Server Quick Start. This question came up in the assessment:
True or False: You use the INTERSECT operator to combine results from two SELECT statements. Only rows that appear in both results sets are displayed.
I answered it as TRUE but it marked it wrong.

Specific Question Reporting in LMS

Hi I've been using Captivate for a few months, and I've recently gotten a module together and am hosting it on SCORM cloud. My module contains some quiz slides, however I'm finding the reporting I'm getting back a bit odd, I'm
sure it's user error but I'm unclear what I'm doing wrong…I'm getting the info about who is taken the quiz and how long they've taken etc, but what I need to know is the specific answers they have given, i.e. have they answered A B C or D.
I've been making the quiz slides myself with click boxes and actions, and including them in quiz reporting, but I'm unclear how I can then get each question and answer I've created to show up in the SCORM reporting…for example, most of the specific reporting looks like this:

[USER} correctly answered 'Question 6888' with response '1'
I'd like to be able to specify the question number myself (not sure where the 6888 is coming from) and make it so the response was "A" or any of the other selections. Is this possible?

I should add to the above that I'm making my own quiz slides. Still looking for an answer to this problem, so far what I've been doing as a workaround is putting the result of the question in the Interaction ID...ie "Question1DINCORRECT" or "QUESTION 2ACORRECT", that way I can at least see what they answered. When I was looking at the SCORM data I saw this:

This is where the LMS is getting the data, but I have no idea how to change it so the reporting could say User X incorrectly answered Question 1 with response D...hopefully this makes sense. Any help greatly appreciated!!

Questioned Devices in LMS - DFM

Hi, We are running LMS 3.2 (windows) and I have a group of switches I am trying to monitior in DFM.
I have discovered the devices in device management successfully. Then I import the devices into DFM they always go into a questioned state.
Several attempts with the same results have been tried.
I checked in MARS and I see denies from my LMS server to the devices Im trying to import to DFM. The traffic seems to be in relation to when Im attemping the imports to DFM. The denies are on UDP-137. Is this port needed from LMS to the device for DFM to discover and monitor it ???
I have increased the SNMP Timeout to 14 seconds 3 retries
DFM version is 3.2.0
Credentials are correct for the monitored devices

No, udp/137 is not required. The devices must be pingable and reachable via SNMP. Make sure the LMS server can ping the management IP addresses of these devices.

Problem completing job application as browser will not move me into the part of the 7th of 9 parts of the assessment questions needed to complete the job applicaion

I successfully completed 6 of the 9 parts of the job application. the 7th part is the assessment where i click on assessment and it is to put me into the 35 minute test required before completing steps 8 and 9 of the application. It says your browser will not allow you to go to this next step. Get help. so, Help or I lose all the data of my lengthy application which I have completed up to that point.

Assessment Questions

Hello, all...is there away when creating an assessment in
Captivate, to show the user at the end of the assessment (on the
results page that gives their score) exactly which questions are
missed? Even better, is there a way to print that page if so? I
have found in the past the print icons do not work on assessment
pages; only on regular slide screens... I hope someone has found a
way to do this. Thanks very much in advance...

Hi StrangeFruit1021 and welcome to the Captivate forums!
Unfortunately, you don't have any control over what the user
sees on the built-in Results page. It's pretty much what you see is
what you get. It's possible to intercept Captivate's e-mail results
submission mechanism and create your own results page outside of
Captivate using HTML and Javascript, but that requires web
development skills that are beyond most Captivate users.
As for printing the built-in Quiz Results page, Paul Dewhurst
offers a Print widget on his site that might allow the user to
print their results:

He also has one in the Captivate 3 section that adds a Print
button to the playbar so it's always present.
As an FYI, the Captivate "sections" on Paul's website refer
to the earliest version a widget can be used in... for example, he
typically makes sure that anything in the Captivate 1 section works
for Captivate 1 and up.

Quiz problems, white screen appears, quiz freezes, cannot get consistent responses when adding click-through assessment questions to the quiz.

Why would I get a white screen after answering a quiz click-through?

You'll have to do two things.. Elaborate on exactly what you mean by a white screen appears. What is turning white? Are you generating a SWF from captivate of a screen capture session, then trying to load that SWF with a wrapper and when you do so it turns white? (In that scenario, if Captivate was looking for external assets it can't find, that'd be why). Please include more details on that.
Second, code of this size pasted into the forum really doesn't help. You'll need to do the work to isolate exactly what part of the code you're seeing this white box appear. Run it in a debugger line by line until you witnesss it turn white and only share that small portion of code. And if you do choose to share a ton of code, please use a site like pastebin.com which will retain formatting and color coding, making it much easier to read, and then share that pastebin link.

Track Data size limits?

I noticed yesterday that the Track Data (Send) part of the
LMS (Send Data) (ie the lesson data variables) must have a maximum
total limit of data allowed to be transferred to the VLE
(blackboard) and back.
I am saving text entry answers in my module each answer as a
lesson data variable. However If you fill up the first activity,
when you go back into the module and add more info or info to
another activity then nothing gets saved. I presume this is because
there is a maximum ceiling of data that can be stored in these
variables. This is very worrying as we MUST be able to store
lengthy answers for all the activities and assessment questions and
the LMS MUST store these and send them back to
the module when the user returns. otherwise we will need to
redesign the module so that we can get this working some
alternative way!
From a count, it seems there can be a maximum of 1079
characters stored before it stops you sending any more data.
Any initial thoughts or better ways we can store text entry
answers via LMS KO, SCORM and Blackboard VLE?

Custom fields won't work, unless it's his own LMS which he
can modify at
will (which it isn't, in this case). And even then, that
would totally
break the SCORM spec - so his course couldn't be used in any
other LMS.
suspend.data is the only field available for random data.
There are
others, but they are pretty limited; interaction.data can't
be read
from, objective.data has available space only in the ID
field,
student.data is 2004 only (and maybe not readable).
The issue here is definitely Authorware and the Send Data KO.
I posted
to the AwareList with the same problem months ago. The Send
Data KO tops
out at about 1080 characters for some reason.
And even if that is overcome (which it can be with custom JS
functions
in the HTML), the suspend.data field is still limited to 4096
characters.

CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1 - some questions

I would like to ask some questions about CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1.
We are using for a few days, and I can't set some request in the system. I hope someone could help me to customize the CW as I would like to use it.
- We have some Catalyst 6500s, and between them there are Etherchannels. CiscoWorks sends us email because HighUtilization, and it relies on a Gi interface. I read that CW doesn't support etherchannels, is this true.
- I would like to receive email notifications about errdisabled state, etc. I know this is dome by RME, not DFM. The CiscoWorks server acts as Syslog server, too, and it collects the syslogs. I see in the Syslog summary, that the device sends to CW the syslog, but I can't receive email. I did an automated actions, (Monitor-Syslog-Automated actions), I defined the parameters (Facility: *, Sub-facility: *, Severity: 2, Mnemonic: PSECURE_VIOLATION, Description: *), but CW doesn't send me an email.
- I would like to customize interface threshould parameters per device. We have some router with Tunnel utilization 90%, but it's okay because we have a 10Mbit line for the external site. But when our distribution switch ethernet utilization would be 90%, it would be critical. Where can I set these parameters per device/interface?

If you go to Monitoring > Fault Settings > setup > fault device details
Select the device click view and click the device to open the detailed device view.
There you may see the tu interface under interfaces and set it to managed.

Quiz question scoring and reporting

Hi, I'm working in Captivate 4. I'm trying to build a quiz that emulates our current course assessment questions. The final question asks: Overall, I found this session to be valuable. I've attempted to built a rating scale question slide but need the answer to report 20 points into our LMS. As Captivate only offers this as a survey question, I'm a bit stuck.
If anyone has had the same experience creating a weighted rating question your assistance would be much appreciated.

Sorry, did not have time to answer yesterday.
To create a question that report 20pts anyway not withstanding the chosen answer could be achieved in a rather simple way, attach the score only to the submit button on the question slide, not to the answers themselves. So when the user submits the answer he'll get the score of 20pts. We do not have a way to change the system variables with the score, which is a pity (have been asking for it since quite a while).
But I presume that you will want to pass the answer to the LMS? It will be possible to store that answer in a user variable (could explain more extensively if you confirm first that you want the answers), but will have to check (in these forums) how to get this user variable to the LMS. Michael (cpguru) could be of great help there, but he is enjoying his well-deserved holidays.

2) How can I script to find out which Multiple Choice item is selected (a number or alike, so that I can script to find out if a certain number combined with a certain term is combined?
3) How can I script something random (if random(4) == 1 then myVar="heat capacity")?
4) How do I combine an advanced action to an answer?

Certainly not yet an answer to all your questions, have been musing a little bit already but had to do some work for college too.
You could use the default Multiple Choice question slide, with possibility for more than one answer. Showing a correct and a incorrect caption is not a problem. But you also want to show a graphic after that, thus after the user clicks on the slide or enters Yes (normal way to continue). Can the graphic be on another slide? Than you could insert this slide immediately after the question slide and program that when the answer is correct the user jumps over this slide. If you report to a LMS, you could report everything, so that the answers will be visible on the LMS-report. This would be the easiest way. I do not see any solution (for the moment) to have the questions 'randomized'. Shuffling is possible on some question slides, but you want to shuffle the question slides themselves. Perhaps: create a pool with the question slides and get questions out of that pool, they will then automatically be unpredictible.
The other more complex way: create your own question slides with text captions, click boxes, advanced actions that populate some user variables. Do see possibilites, except again for the randomizing, the shuffling of the questions slides. Showing first a caption, then a graphic on the slide, based on the correct/incorrect answers is certainly possible. Storing the exact answers in user variables would be possible too: what do you exactly want to do with this 'knowledge'?
Perhaps I'll get some fresh ideas tomorrow,

Cap 5 - All questions included in quiz?!

Hi All,
We have a 50 slide module with practice questions scattered throughout. At the end we have a 10 question assessment. I've noted that cap 5 includes ALL questions in the 'quiz results' screen - even the practice questions.
To resolve I had to hide the number of questions - which worked to a point UNTIL... if the user fails the assessment they have to click the retake quiz button and this directs them way back to the very first practice question in the module which is definately not what we want - I want it to go back to the first assessment question. Captivate used to have an option - for questions 'include in quiz'. Has this option been removed - I can see it for buttons but not for questions...
This is a fairly significant problem for us.

For your practice questions, on the Quiz Properties tab, have you set General > points to 0, and on the Reporting accordion unticked the Report Answers box?

CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1 - Interface Availability graph

Hello all,
I would have a question about CW LMS Monitoring Interface Availability Graph. When we change a Network Topology (for example I plug out a switch from a daisy chain and plug it in the distribution switch), the Interface Availability shows the original switch port as unavailable. After a big change, we have several interface notification on the diagram with red, but the devices are available - of course, we just changed the port where it is plugged in.
In what menu can I rediscover a devices, and why shows the CW the unused, old interfaces as 'down'?

sorry, no. I tried to set the unused interfaces to unmanaged state, in some cases it solved the problem. But this is not a really solution. I hope somebody has any other idea that helps us.
