Associate events to a dropdown list in a tableview

Hello everybody,
I have a tableview with a dropdown in one of the columns. Until here there is no problem, I followed the indications from Brian McKellar's weblog (thank you master) and everything works fine.
What I need know it's to populate the other columns from tableview when a value it's selected in the dropdown. For instance, think in a tableview with personnel number, name and last name. When a user selects one personnel number (from the dropdown), the information about his name and last name should be retrieved from the system and then automatically populated in their corresponding tableview columns.
I guess that it has to be possible to associate an event to the dropdown when a value it's selected, but take into account that the dropdown it's inside the tableview and the whole structure it's inside a view, not a page with flow logic.
Any advice on this subject?
Kind regards

  • Personas 2.0: How to catch the selection event of a dropdown list?

    Hi Personas 2.0 experts,
    The use case:
    I want to use a text field to show the "key" of an item that can be selected in a dropdown list.
    The issue:
    After clicking the list and selecting an item, the text field is not automatically updated with the newly selected item content.
    Anyone has an idea to how make such an auto update (pls note I don't want to use an extra button to do the update, just by clicking the list only)?
    Thx.
    Dong

    To display the key (the actual value) that's selected in a dropdown, there is a property called ShowKeys which you could set.
    However if you'd want to show the selected value in another field upon picking an option, this would require an event associated in Personas 2.0 with the selection of a dropdown value. This is currently not available so I'm afraid what you are looking for is not possible.
    Edit: It turns out I was wrong... there is an option (at least it's there in SP3) which allows linking a script button to the dropdown property OnValueChanged, so you can use this to do any script action you need when the user selects a value.
    (thanks, Sushant )

  • Dropdown list in Subform

    Hi There,
    I am facing problem in Dropdown lists in Subforms.
    I want the region dropdown list values according to country (only for DE) dropdown list value. Both Dropdown lists are in a Subform.
    For that, I have used this in EXIT event of Country Dropdown list:
    if (this.rawValue == "DE Deutschland")
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.clearItems();
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Schleswig-Holstein","1");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Hamburg","2");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Niedersachsen","3);
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Bremen","4");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Nordrhein-Westfalen","5");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Hessen","6");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Rheinland-Pfalz","7");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Baden-Württemberg","8");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Bayern","9");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Saarland","10");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Berlin","11");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Brandenburg","12");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Mecklenburg-Vorpomme","13");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Sachsen","14");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Sachsen-Anhalt","15");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Thüringen","16");
    else
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.clearItems();
    It does only change first region dropdownlist value, not others because both dropdown lists are in a Subform.
    Other problem is that it works only when All Country Dropdown lists are "DE". Means, first region dropdown list depends upon not only first country dropdown but also other dropdown.
    My requirement is, If first country Dropdown is "DE", only first Region Dropdown list should be fill, not others. And so on.
    Please provide solution that How can I change all dropdown lists of a Subform dynamically?
    Waiting for reply.
    Thank you
    Chandler Bing

    Hi Philip,
    You are assigning values only the first row.
    data.Daten.Daten.Daten.Data.DropDown.rawValue =  data.Daten.Aktion.DropDown.rawValue
    You have to use the assignment in loop.
    1. check number of rows in the table
    2. Assign values in loop
    // Use the internal table which you binded to dropdown for getting total rows.
    var rows = xfa.resolveNodes("****DropDownSrc.DATA[*]").length;
    for ( var i =0; i < norows; i++)
    data.Daten.Daten.Daten.Data[i].DropDown.rawValue =  data.Daten.Aktion.DropDown.rawValue
    Hope i got you correctly

  • Simple Spark Dropdown List Question

    Hello,
    In my interface, I have a drop down list. When the user changes the value, I'm trying to throw up an alert window ( 'are you sure...') because the change has a ripple effect. Everything works fine except when the user makes their selection from the Alert window, the dropdown list stays open. I've tried the 'closeDropDown' method, but that doesn't seem to work. I thought it might be because of the Alert control, but I'm not sure.
    Any help or a nudge in the right direction to where I can find an answer would be appreciated.

    First, thanks for responding.
    I was throwing up the alert window on the 'change' (and also unsuccessfully the 'changing') event of the drop down list. After reading your response, I tried throwing it up on the 'close' event of the dropdown list, which worked.

  • Populating text boxes from a dropdown list connected to an Access DB

    Hi, I have successfully connected to a MS Access data with a Dynamic Drop down box but I am having trouble scripting the change with a script that works to populate the 3 text fields with the remaining data from the 3 columns associated with the item chosen in the drop down box.
    Also does the program support being able to use the drop down box and the fields to add data to the DB. I have just started using LiveCycle Designer 8.
    Thanks.

    Try this code on the exit event of your dropdown list:
    tfList.rawValue = tfList.rawValue + " " + this.rawValue;
    I'm presuming that the list you're adding items to is called tflist. If it doesn't work, let us know.

  • Custom list column not showing up in View Order by or Group by dropdown list

    Hi All,
    I have created a custom list with a custom column called "Description". Some items in the list do not have a description. What I wanted to do is create a view where the items with a description show first, and the items with no description are
    at the bottom of the list. I thought I could make a simple view that uses the Order by or Group by on the description column.
    The problem I am having is the description column doesn't show up in the dropdown list for either Order by or Group by within the custom view. Can someone please tell me why this happens and if there is anything I can do to rectify this problem.
    I hope you can help
    Colin

    Hi,
    I believe the "Description" field type is Multiple Lines of Text. Sorting doesn't allow in this field type. In order to do the sorting, you would require to create additional column like single line of text column (note that it supports only 255
    chars and require to truncate the data if more than 255) and update the data using event receiver or workflow. and do the sorting with that column.

  • How do I get a value attached to a text on a dropdown list?

    I need to get an overall average based on the selected option in several different dropdown lists. Once I have the average the final field will reflect the text as one of the options.
    There are 3 areas that are being measured.
    Quantity, Quality and Performance
    Each area will get a rating, The dropdown list will show Fails, Meets, Exceeds.
    The ratings need a number value that can be used to average the areas.
    Quantity = Meets = 2
    Quality = Exceeds = 3
    Performance = Meets = 2
    Total = 5
    Avg = 2  (rounded to nearest whole)
    Final rating = Meets
    I have built the drop down lists. I see a value that appears to be attached but I cannot figure out how to grab the value.  I need to present this to the executive team soon. Please help me understand how this works, and yes I got it to work in Acrobat but needed other functionality only available in LC Designer.
    I am using Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES2.
    Thank you!!

    If you have assigned values to the dropdown items - on the Binding tab of the Object palette: "Specify Item Values" - those values become the rawValue for the dropdown.
    So for something simple in FormCalc, on the calculate event of the Final Rating you would just add the fields together and do the math.
    $ = (ddl1 + ddl2 + ddl3) / 3

    Take a look at the Page1 constructor.
    It appears that you're trying to bind the datatable to 2
    different rowsets. I suggest to clean up this
    constructor to make sure you're using the right
    rowset.
    Your value binding expressions on each column
    of the datatable may not be set to the right column.

  • "Add More" input to dropdown list

    Hello,
    I was having some difficulty trying to customize this dropdown list to a format very similar to one of the dropdown options on ebay.
    The cell is blank and has a drop down. Once you click the drop down, you will find the following
    relaxed
    straight leg
    other
    When you click "other," the field box now contains the  text that reads " Enter a Specific Value." and you are able to add in whatever text you want in the field
    That would be great if there was a way in LiveCycle to do something close to or exactly like this.
    thanks
    -vargs

    1) allow custom text entry
    2) add exit event
    // form1.page1.dd::exit - (JavaScript, client)
    if (this.rawValue == "Other") {
      this.rawValue = "Enter a specific value";
    3) add entry event
    // form1.page1.dd::enter - (JavaScript, client)
    if (this.rawValue == "Enter a specific value") {
      this.rawValue = "";

  • How to populate a textfield based on a dropdown list and a checkbox

    Hi Guys,
    I need help.
    first step: I have a dropdown list if i click in dropdownlist "a" and put in numeric field a number bigger than 99 the, checkbox should be marked and  second step: a textfield1 should be visible.
    the first step works perfectly but the second doesnt work.
    this is my coding for the second step in event : change java script
    if ((DropDownList1.rawValue == "a") && (this.rawValue == 1))
    TextField1.presence = "visible";
    else
    TextField1.presence = "hidden";
    does anybody have any idea why?
    thanks!!
    Diana

    Hi,
    I would put the following in the exit of the dropdown and the checkbox:
    if
    (DropDownList1.rawValue == "a" && CheckBox1.rawValue == 1){
    TextField1.presence
    = "visible";}
    else
    TextField1.presence
    = "hidden";}
    (the script is all over the shop, but should be OK in the form).
    Then in the exit event of the numeric field (after the changing of the checkbox value) you could call the checkbox exit event.
    Good luck,
    Niall

  • How to have a unique list of items for separate dropdown lists?

    Software: Acrobat X (10) pro on Windows
    I want to create a pdf form in which all dropdown lists are populated with the same list of items to choose from. If I use the same field name for all drop down lists, the item selected in one dropdown list is automatically selected in all lists. This is not what I want. I wish to be able to select a different item in each & single dropdown list. I could of course maintain separate item lists for each field (using separate field names) but what a waste of time!... especially as the field lists would then have to be updated separately. There's got to be a better way to do it.
    Any idea how this could be achieved? Thank you.

    Here's a sample script that first defines a list of items in an array and uses it to update a number of dropdowns, name dd1...dd10:
    // Populate an array with the list items
    var aItems = ["-- Select a state --", "Alaska", "Hawaii", "Washington", "Oregon", "Idaho", "Montana", "Wyoming", "Nevada", "Colorado", "Arizona", "New Mexico"];
    // Loop through the dropdowns...
    for (var i = 1; i < 11; i += 1) {
        // ...and set the list items
        getField("dd" + i).setItems(aItems);
    That's all there is to it. This can be run from the Mouse Up event of a temporary button that you create, the interactive JavaScript console (Ctrl+J), etc.

  • Auto-Submit On Change in DropDown List not working properly!

    Hi all,
    Ive got a problem with a drop down list an a table with some rows on my page. The property "Auto-Submit on Change" is set for the drop down because the valueChange-method has to do some work when the user selects another value from the drop down.
    The problem is that after selecting another item from the drop down, the table fields dont keep their values, which I had entered before I selected another item in the drop down. But: When I select an item again, suddenly exactly these values are set.
    Here my code:

    public void dropDown1_processValueChange(ValueChangeEvent event) {
    getSessionBean1().getColumnProvider().commitChanges();
    List positions = getSessionBean1().getColumnProvider().getColumnList();
    Is there some explanation for this behavior or its really a bug in the way how the drop down is submitting the form? I would understand it when commitChanges is not working here because of auto submit on change (==immediate?). but once it works und once it doesnt work!

    Hi There,
    Not sure what you mean. Have you tried Netbeans 6 yet. Do you see same behaviour in it as well?
