Association icons?

In my jnlp file, I can associate my application with a particular extension, and when I double click a file with that extension in my file manager, it opens my application. However, in the os's native file manager, it does not display the icon specified with <icon href...""> in the info section; is there a way to get it to do this? It does display the icon for files with that extension in JFileChoosers...

to disable that behaviour in wine, open up winecfg, go to the "Libraries" tab, type "winemenubuilder.exe" (without quotes) in the "New override for library" box, click add then edit and choose "Disable". Now wine will no longer do any file associations.
To reverse the changes it's already made, edit ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list, and if you feel brave try rooting around in ~/.local/share/mime to get rid of them completely

  • 9.3.0 File association "icon" in XP Pro limited user account problem?

    XP Pro SP3 all MS Updates.
    Problem occurred after updating Adobe PDF reader to 9.3.0 via the program update feature
    File association ok but weird thing is on Limited user account.  The icons for a PDF file are not Adobe ones it is a generic one.  If I try to open the file it opens with the correct program.
    Problem evident on desktop icons and in looking in windows explorer.
    If I attach a file in my email program (Outlook Express) it shows the correct icon.
    These files were created from various pdf creators.  Ofice 2007 Mac SO X 10.4.11 Quartz, Adobe InDesign CS4 (6.0) and InDesigdn CS4 (5.0) so it doesn't seem matter what program created the files.
    I am at a loss to figure out how to get the correct icon in the Limited User Account.  The correct icons show up in the Admin account.  Note the files do open with the adobe reader.
    Thanks
    Celeste

    Gosh anyone out there have any idea how to resolve this?  The generic MS icon for the files in the limited user account is annoying as all get out.  Anyone out there from Adobe or is this not a monitored forum.  Not sure.  Thanks
    Note: Correct program is accessed just the icons for the PDF files in the limited user account are the generic MS ones.

  • Associating icons to folders questions (Mavericks)

    I am trying to understand how icons work in OS X Mavericks for custom folders.  Can someone explain how .icns files are 'linked' to folders?  I am seeing something odd (at least to me, since I'm new to Mac) and it doesn't make sense.
    Please try this little test to see what I'm seeing:
    From a clean install, in Finder, navigate to your home folder.
    You should see 7 folders (Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Movies, Music, Pictures, Public).
    Now, right click and in the pop up menu, click 'New Folder' and name it 'test.'
    Our newly created test folder has a generic folder icon.  So far so good.
    Now, right click on the 'Movies' folder and then click 'Get Info.'  You'll get a little popup showing some details about the folder.  Notice that the 'Size' says that it's Zero bytes on disk for 1 item.
    Click the little folder icon with the film strip on it in the upper left of that window to select it (it should now have a blue highlight around it, indicating it's selected).
    Press 'Command + C' to copy it.  What we've just done is copied the icons.
    Now, right click on your newly created 'test' folder and then 'Get Info.'
    With the generic folder icon, the size is the same: Zero bytes (Zero bytes on disk) for 1 item.
    Right click the generic folder icon in the upper left corner of that window and then 'Command + V' to paste our Movies icons.
    We've just now successfully changed the icons for our test folder to match those of the Movies folder.
    But now look at the Size: 1,895,054 bytes (1.9 MB on disk) for 1 item.
    Why has the size of my folder changed?  I understand I've just 'embedded' some icons in there or something, but if that's the case, then why doesn't the Movies folder show the same info?  Why doesn't the Movies folder also say that there are 1,895,054 bytes (1.9 MB on disk) for 1 item?  When the generic folder icons were linked to my folder, there were 0 bytes.  I don't understand, can someone please explain?

    Follow up: When installing Mavericks 'cleanly,' 8 folders are put in the user's home directory by default (Library is hidden by default) and each of them have their own custom folder icon.
    When creating a custom folder, the icon is set to a generic folder icon.  My question is, how is it linking to 'GenericFolderIcon.icns' in /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/?
    Also, same thing, how are the default folders being associated with their respective .icns files in that same Resources folder?
    From what I understand, Finder looks at a folder, checks to see if it's a 'special' folder by checking...some flag?  And if the folder is flagged as 'special,' then Finder looks further somewhere (I assume the same location that this 'special' flag is being set) to find out exactly which .icns file that folder is telling it to look at.

  • Thumbnail view/Icon association change in Windows 7 with CS4

    I just put CS4 on a virgin Windows 7 build and I'm struggling with a couple of things...
    1. How do I get Windows 7 to display the proper file association icons for image files? With XP it was easy to change an icon so that my JPG files uses the Photoshop JPG icon. But in 7 I have not been able to figure it out.
    2. Thumbnail view with an image preview is not working. No matter what size I resize the icon in 7 I still get a big fat "PS" icon and not an image thumbnail. If there's a "switch" somewhere that I need to flip, I haven't been able to find it.
    If anyone can shed some light on these issues, particularly #2, that would be great. I'm amazed at how much a hard case Windows 7 is with file associations and Photoshop CS4. I got BMP, JPG, PNG, and others to open with Photoshop but it did require a bit more effort. With the "default program" list, Photoshop isn't even mentioned and I had to hunt the executable down to tell Windows which application to use. What's amazing is Quicktime is listed as a "default program" but CS4 is not.

    OK, sounds like you found the File Type Association.
    As for the display, for some years, the old psicon.dll has been gone from Windows. For a few versions, one could just add it to Windows, but I do not believe that has worked since Vista. Instead, use Bridge, and not Windows Explorer.
    As this has been an issue for years, it could well be that MS, or Adobe, will rewrite the psicon.dll to work with Win7, or that someone else will take up the challenge of doing so. Could already be out there, and I have just not heard of it.
    Good luck,
    hunt

  • Associated Adobe Reader Icon is blank??

    After updating from Adobe Reader 6 to version 9.1 my associated icon on several machines has now turned to a blank icon.
    If I click the .pdf file it opens fine in version 9.1 - after reinstalling version 9.1 it still hasnt fixed the problem.
    I've looked in the registry and the the defaulticon entries under the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT under the acrobat key appear to be correct and pointing to the correct file location for the AcroRd32.exe
    I know this issue has been raised before in these forums and am just wondering if anyone had managed to resolve it.
    Thanks
    Si

    Good idea didnt think of that.
    I was going to use the sysinternals (now part of microsoft) registry monitor tool to try and find out which registry entries it was attempting to use to display the icons when i opened up an explorer window with some .pdf files in them.

  • File Type Icons Not Working

    Hey everyone, the issue I'm haveing is not just with Photoshop, but sense I couldnt find a general CS5 forum, and Photoshop was the last CS5 application I noticed this for I'm hoping to find some answers here.
    So on to the issue....
    I have noticed that on other computers (Macs for sure) that Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver etc... are set as the default handlers of certain file types that are associated with each application, and as such, give each filetype there own little icons reflecting such. (see screenshot)
    However on my system (Windows 7 Ultimate x64) this does not seem to be the case. I can go in and set them as default manually, which I have done for the filetypes I use most frequently, but I do not get to enjoy the nice icons that are made for each filetype, i just get a bland, default icon that is the same for every filetype.
    As you can see, some of the file icons are working just fine (the .ai, .eps and .php) but the files I have had to set manually (.html and .psd) give me the default windows association icon that is simply the applications icon on top of a blank file. To clear up any confusion as to what icons I'm talking about, the icons in the "Change Icon" menu are the ones that should be shown, but are not.
    Is there a way to fix this issue?
    Thanks for you help.

    This may help. not sure.

  • Since updating to Firefox 9.0.1, the icons for bookmarked sites have vanished-in the bookmark list-how do I get the icons back?

    Icons that were displayed for each bookmarked site-in the list of bookmarks-have disappeared (only the site name, not associated icon-is shown) since I upgraded to Firefox 9.0.1.
    I am running a Mac with OS X 10.7.2 (Lion). I was previously using Firefox 8 with no problems.

    Problem solved. Thanks!

  • Icon not showing

    I am using Windows 7 oracle database 10g and developer Suite 10g
    configure all the steps accordingly but not showing icons, when I copy all the Gif files in /Forms/Java/ folder then showing icon only in push button not showing in Tree Node.
    Steps I followed:-
    Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Oracle\<Forms10 g_Home>\UI_ICON by entering the
    path of your GIF/JPG files for e.g. J:\Icons
    and create ui_icon_extension and give it value GIF
    Creating Jar Files
    Jar -cfv icons_name.Jar *.gif
    Copy this Jar File into Java Folder.
    Modify REGISTRY.DAT file
    default.icons.iconpath=icons/
    Modify FORMSWEB.CFG file
    i) imagebase=codebase
    ii) archive_jini=frmall_jinit.jar,frmwebutil.jar,jacob .jar,my_icons.jarstill not showing images in HTree Node

    Hello,
    Here is the content of the first note:
    A hierarchical tree component is used within Forms. When the tree is populated with (ftree.populate_tree), it does not show the associated icons "from the icon column within the query". The icons are stored in a jar file.
    The environment file and the web configuration file are correctly set. For example, an image in the jar file appears on an iconic button.
    Cause
    The cause of this issue is determined by the unpublished Bug 10410309: FTREE.POPULATE_TREE DOES NOT SHOW ICONS
    Solution
    If the icon node value is refreshed, then the associated image appears.
    A simple loop like this will solve the problem:
    DECLARE
    htree ITEM;
    node ftree.node;
    state varchar2(30);
    state2 varchar2(30);
    BEGIN
    -- Find the tree itself.
    htree := Find_Item('TREE.TREE');
    Ftree.Populate_Tree(htree);
    go_item('TREE.TREE');
    -- Find the root node of the tree.
    node := Ftree.Find_Tree_Node(htree, '');
    -- Loop through all nodes and refresh their icon value
    WHILE NOT Ftree.ID_NULL(node) LOOP
    state2 := Ftree.Get_Tree_Node_Property(htree, node, Ftree.NODE_ICON);
    IF state2 is not null THEN
    Ftree.Set_Tree_Node_Property(htree, node, Ftree.NODE_ICON, lower(state2));
    END IF;
    node := Ftree.Find_Tree_Node(htree, '', ftree.find_NEXT,Ftree.NODE_LABEL,'', node);
    END LOOP;
    END;
    Now the icon image value will be read from the jar file containing the images.
    The second note talks about not using subdirectories inside the jar file.
    Kind regards,
    Alex

  • Changing the File Associations in Get Info doesn't seem to stick

    Hey everyone. I hope I'm posting this in the best possible place. I just bought a new Mac Pro (single hexacore Westmere processor if that makes a difference) and I've found that the file associations aren't working. I will Get Info on a document and change the application it's supposed to open with. If I stop there, everything is great and the associated icon changes, but if I click Change All... (which is exactly what I want to do) and then click Continue, it reverts back to the default and doesn't change anything. I've changed repairing disk permissions but am a bit stumped after that. Anyone have any suggestions? I minor problem but kind of annoying (especially since I want my new baby to work perfectly). Thanks.

    Grab a copy of RCDefaultApp and once installed you have a preference pane to set the Mime type/handling for any extension.

  • Ternary Association In a class diagram

    Hi
    Please help. I need to depict a ternary association icon between 3 Classes in my Class diagram.
    I am using Java Studio Enterprise 8's UML tool.
    The modeling palette does not make provision for this type of association.
    Is there a way to depict the ternary association icon, or is there an update for the Modeling palette in the class diagrams?
    It is the little diamond, looks the same as the decision icon.

    I filed one for neext release http://www.netbeans.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=79744
    It's unlikely functionality will be added in patch to jse8.

  • Icon for Adobe Air Executable

    How do you place an image on the shortcut of an air package?
    This image is for the executable shortcut link like an ICO
    file for a dot.net application.
    Thanks in advance...

    The application's icon can be set via the <icon>
    element in the application descriptor (application.xml) file. Flex
    Builder, Dreamweaver, and Flash Authoring all also offer UI that
    lets you select the associated icon images.

  • File icons missing

    Hi everyone -
    I'm using File.icon to render filesystem icons in an
    ItemRenderer - this works fine, except for when the file does not
    have an associated icon - for such files Windows Explorer will
    normally use an icon from shell32.dll or similar, but this icon
    doesn't seem to be what AIR receives from the system, instead it
    gets blank BitmapData, where all pixel values are 0. Examples are
    .TMP, .EXE or any file-type where there's no strict association
    with a program. Any idea why this happens and whether there's a
    workaround, other than testing for blank pixels and replacing with
    my own icon?

    Yes I have seen this same issue. Exes and other extensions,
    don't have an associated icon.

  • Changing default picture viewer via GPO without changing image type and icon (Windows 7)

    Hello,
    I am trying to change the default picture viewer for some file extensions (.bmp, .jpeg, .png and .tiff). Actually Windows Photo Viewer is the default viewer and we need to replace it with Microsoft Office Picture Manager.
    I managed to do that change via GPO using the 'open with' preference under User Configuration\ Preferences\Control Panel Settings\Folder Options. So now the files are opened with Microsoft Office Picture Manager (office 2010). The problem is that the image
    type became 'OIS.EXE' for all the specified file extensions. Moreover the icon is now the same (Microsoft Office 2010).
    When I change manually the associated program for a file extension, the icon change but no the image type... this is different using GPO.
    Is there a solution in order to change the default program but keeping the image type and associated icon ?
    I tried to do that modification using the 'new file type' preference under Computer Configuration\Preferences\Control Panel Settings\Folder Options. I specified the 'open' action for OIS.exe, selected file extension BMP with associated class 'Bitmap Image'.
    It solves the problem for image type, Microsoft Office Picture Manager opens the files ... but I have to specify the icon file path and icon index and I don't know where I can find the default icons for the file extensions ...
    What is the best solution ? Am I right ? Am I doing something wrong ?
    Thank you in advance !

    Hello,
    thank you very much for your answers.
    For the rollback, I will reimport the original/default keys for all the image types, this should be ok.
    Here are the problems I have trying to pu Microsoft Office Picture Manager as default picture viewer (I just want  .bmp, .jpg ... files to be opened with Microsoft Office Picture Manager by default).
    1 Using new file type under Computer Configuration\Preferences\Control Panel Settings\folder options. : I define a new file type (BMP for example), associated class Bitmap Image, I configure the icon (imageres.dll,65) and an open action where OIS.EXE
    is the application used to perform the action.
    Result : Icon is correct, file type is correct, image files are opened with OIS.EXE (correct) ... BUT now Microsoft Office 2010 appears twice in open or open with menu
    2 Using new open with under User configuration\Preferences\Control Panel Settings\Folder Options : new open with preference, action (update or replace same result), file extension BMP, associated program (path to OIS.EXE), i check set as default.
    Result : Office 2010 opens image files (correct) but icon is Office 2010 one and the file type is now 'OIS.EXE' for all image file extensions I have specified ... so it won't be possible to sort the file by image type if I select that method...
    3 Using ftype : OIS.EXE doesn't open the file when I double click on it but Microsoft Office 2010 appears twice in the open or open with list ...
    I am a bit lost ... what is the best method to put Microsoft Office Picture Manager as default picture viewer, keeping the image type (Bitmap image, JPEG image etc) and without having Microsoft Office 2010 twice in the open or open with list ??
    Last question : by default an image file is opened and previewed with Windows Photo viewer and edited with Paint. I would like just to open images with Office 2010 but keep Windows Photo viewer for preview and Paint for edit ... Is it possible ??
    Thank you in advance for any help and support !!

  • JCheckBox-icon not showing

    Hi there,
    i hope this has not been covered already, i searched this forum looking for all kind of JCheckBox posts but did not find what i was looking for. If i missed it i'm really sorry and would appreciate any kick that get's me into the right direction ;-)
    I'm using some JCheckBoxes in my application and on all testsystems i ran it on everything worked fine. Now i got finally access to the machine it should run on in the end and of course it screws up. The selection icons for the JCheckboxes are not working correctly, more specific the IconBackground is black so i can only see if the box is checked when i highlight it. I really have no clue why it is behaving differently on this machine (same operating system, same jre-build). If anybody could give a hint what the problem could be or what work-arounds are known, it would be greatly appreciated. For now i try to mess with the UIManager, but i'm kinda stuck there because the documentation on how to use it for what purpose is not really rich ;-)
    Thx in advance, Chris
