[Athlon64] Preventing VIA RAID during boot with a K8T Neo?

Is there a way to stop the VIA controller looking for RAID devices on a K8T Neo MS-6702 VER 1.0 board?
The system has a single SATA connected to the VIA controller.
Thanks.

It's looking 4 disks, since u have a disk, and use it, i gues u want it to be found
It's the same thing with IDE devices, only thing is that the message is displayed shorter, giving the impression it works faster.

  • I can't handle any more problems with this K8t NEO

Hi all, I am new to the forum.
I will honestly say I have tried to read allot of posts before I spoke up but....
    I have:
    K8t NEO
    3200 64
    Updated to the latest BIOS
Corsair Overclocking RAM (I am looking up the specs)
    256 sick on slot 1
    256 stick on slot 3
    A new PS....something like:
    3.3v 40
    5v 38
12v 24 (the local CS gave me a hard time saying I DO NOT NEED such a big PS)
    Maxtor 40 gig ATA133
    NVIDIA 5600 256
    and dwindling patience.
anyhoo, I have had one problem after another trying to get this system to work.
It took 3 hours to find that you cant run 3 sticks of ram.
The manual is the worst one I have ever seen. and there is no phone number to be found to talk to tech support.
I am not getting anywhere with the email "support" from MSI....a DAY to get an abreviated answer that does not answer the specific question. It may be a viable system if they get more staff.
One question...why does the screen "push any key to boot from CD" get "missed"
and two.... I cannot install the OS. It will scopy all of its files and on reboot, i get a messasge about not finding the boot info or something...and to insert a floppy.
I gave up and ran a preloaded HD and it worked for a day until during a recording session, It crashed and when it rebooted it says it cant find any boot info...I should of wrote down the message.
    Now What??
    I have tried:
    A different HD cable
HD jumper settings (Slave / Master)
I tried a low level format.
    3 different HDs
    Bought the new PS.
I hope I do not have to send this thing in...I dont have hardly any free time. (does anyone?) IF it is needing replaced...do I deal with MSI or the Hindus (zboysz) I bought this Mobo from? I have nothing against Hindus but I CANNOT understand ANYTHING they are saying to me.
    Sorry for venting here.
    Can anyone can help?
    TIA,
    ~Wizzie

    Hey Wizzie
Although I have bought stuff from Tiger Direct ...If I were you instead of fooling around with RMA-ing more defective/incompatable  RAM why not get the RAM modules that are indeed compatable with this mobo .........

Do a floppy drive flash with the correct switches.  Go back to the last bios that worked properly or try Pinochio's bios which a lot of people like.  Liveupdate will mess up your bios.  So can winflash if you do not use it correctly.

After you have read about it, do this using the correct flash utilty file name and the correct  bios file name
"DOS floppy flash shall be performed with :
    awfl833d.exe w7030nms.180 /py /sn /wb /cc /cd /cp /f /e
(Replace biosfilename with appropriate version for Neo1/neo2 etc , switches remain the same )
    After flash is complete :
TURN OFF PSU (don't restart) wait 15 seconds
Turn on again , press the power button .
Enter BIOS and load optimized defaults (NO OTHER CHANGES) , save + exit
Boot the system again with the floppy in the drive to let the DMI pool build and update itself .
    Good luck.

  • Card Reader problem with MSI K8T Neo

    Hi,
I have the K8T Neo motherboard, and every once and a while my Atech Flash 9 in 1 card reader  (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-176-003&depa=0) doesn't power up, thus I can't use it.
What's odd is that all my other USB devices work flawlessly.
The only way I'm able to use the card reader again is to power down my computer and then flip the power switch on the psu, then turn it back on, or unplug the reader from the usb header on the motherboard and plug it back in.
I've noticed other people have had similar issues...
Any ideas what causes this, or any ideas on how to fix this?
    Bio Haz

Yes, I had the same hanging problems as well with older BIOS versions then 1.7.
But that isn't the problem I'm talking about, the computer always starts up, it's just a matter if the usb reader will work or not.
Maybe MSI has yet to make a BIOS that is compatible with all card readers.

  • Cannot re-boot after enabling K8T Neo LAN Connection

I've tried to enable the K8T Neo LAN controller in BIOS so that I can connect a Wireless Router to my PC. However, when I do this, the PC will not boot and I have to disable the LAN controller.
On booting-up the BIOS seems to be looking for an ethernet controller and a message states that either the device is not plugged in or the cable is faulty ! Why should enabling the onboard LAN controller affect the device the BIOS boots from ?
Can I plug a Wireless Router directly into the RJ45 LAN connection on the K8T Neo and if so, how ?
    Thankyou for any helpful advice

Check to make sure you are not set to boot from network. Unfortunately I can't remember the exact name or where it is located, but it may help.

as you say: a WIRELESS router is WIRELESS, how could you plugin a cable from a wireles router. or does it also have rj45 conectors?
if you want to use the wirreles function, you will need to buy a wirrles lan adapter (usb) for your pc
I have never seen a wireless router without rj45 connectors. (WAP yes, router no).
    Good Luck

  • [SOLVED] No polish characters during boot with DAEMON_LOCALE=YES

Hello, it didn't bother me much before cause I always had DAEMON_LOCALE=NO, but with recent upgrade new rc.conf was introduced with DAEMON_LOCALE set by default to YES. Now my messages are like this:
Checking Filesystems    [BUSY] /dev/sda2: czysty, 183465/647168 plików, 2083335/2588473 bloków
Questions are: is it supposed to be half message in english half in polish? and how to repair those missing characters? (loading console font is done after those messages)
BTW this is on virtualbox guest with all testing + kde-unstable repos enabled

DSpider wrote:It still wasn't fixed? Then try adding keymap (which says there that it "Adds keymap and consolefonts from rc.conf."), and don't forget to regenerate your initramfs image!
I have tried that and still no luck:
    1. Edit CONSOLE* settings in /etc/rc.conf
    [root@dog etc]# grep ^CONSOLE rc.conf
    CONSOLEFONT="lat2-16"
    CONSOLEMAP="8859-2"

    3. Run mkinitcpio
    [root@dog etc]# mkinitcpio -p linux

==> Creating gzip initcpio image: /boot/initramfs-linux-fallback.img
    ==> Image generation successful
I have dug the problem deeper and checked what is going on in the /etc/rc.* scripts. Everything seems to be in order, but the loading of consolefont/keymap on boot is not having any effect in my case:
    1. System boots, then
    2. Loging in as root
    3. Typing in some Polish pangram as test: zażółć gęślą jaźń
    4. Observing lack of Polish diacritics printed
    5. Re-executing the rc.sysinit steps releated to consolefont/keymap settings:
    # source /etc/rc.conf
    # source /etc/rc.d/functions
    # set_consolefont
    :: Loading Console Font: lat2-16
    6. Trying the Polish pangram test again.
    7. Success, all Polish characters are rendered correctly.
Here is screenshot which presents the simple test explained above:
Now, this test suggests to me that the rc.sysinit procedure of configuring consolefont/keymap seems correct.
However, something seems to get messed during rc.sysinit, so the configuration is later overriden and doesn't persist afterwards.
Does anyone have an idea what may be wrong? Does it qualify to be reported as a bug?

  • Can not load modules during boot with kernel 2.6.31

Every time i install kernel 2.6.31 (ever since it got into core), after reboot i receive message
    FATAL: module ... not found
with every module in my rc.conf, or sometimes with this message:
FATAL: could not load /lib/modules/2.6.30-ARCH/modules.dep no such file or directory
Before those errors the boot script complaisn about hardware clock (right after the Arch Linux line):
Could not access the hardware clock via any known method.
After that I can still start X but my keyboard and mouse are completely dead. The console works fine, i just can not load any module per hand, some daemon can not be started - obviously.
Latest kernel 2.6.30 works fine. Is this a problem of 2.6.31 ?

    /lib/modules/2.6.30-ARCH/
That is very strange... it's not booting into .31
It's an install problem because that dir shouldn't be there after updating kernel26.
I know you said you installed from core, but was it a custom install? Did you change the PKGBUILD in anyway?
After installing .31, before rebooting do depmod 2.6.31-ARCH
    Then do mkinitcpio -p kernel26
Post the output of the second one.

  • Dbus Daemon crashes during boot with ldap-client activ

    Hello,
I just configured my ldap-client using this howto http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HOW … entication. But when I restart the System, the dbus daemon hangs. It must have something to di with the /etc/nsswitch.conf. Wenn I change the settings to use ldap, I can't login anymore. As sone as I switch back to the old nsswitch.conf everything ist working. Can someone tell me how to get the ldap-client working together with dbus?
    EDIT
I just looked in the logfile /var/log/daemon.log on the arch client. I found this:
Jun  6 11:21:07 stkaw kdm_greet[5967]: nss_ldap: reconnecting to LDAP server (sleeping 4 seconds)...
I looked in /var/log/messages of the ldap server:

So the client seams to find the Server.

I found out what it is, but I don't understand it. The server is configured to use tls. All other clients use the clientoption "ssl start_tls" in /etc/nss_ldap.conf. On the new archlinux the ldapclient woun't work with tls. As sone as I deactrivate this option the client established the connection.:/

  • Need help with my K8T Neo 2, SATA question

    Hi everyone.
Im trying to install a new 500 GB Maxtor SATA drive on my motherboard.
The problem is that Windows Setup is not recognizing my SATA drive. I hit F6 during setup, then S, and I select the Win XP VIA SATA Controller from the floppy I made using the files that came with the CD-ROM from my motherboard. I then go on with the setup, but windows says that no drive could be detected. Ive searched for a fix for hours on the board. I have read references about the VIA Controller and the Promis Controller. From what I understand, there are two seperate connectors for these SATA controllers?
When I look at my motherboard I see two SATA connectors. One on top and one right under it. Are these connectors BOTH part of the VIA controller? And if so, does it matter which one I connect the data cable too?
Or are these connectors different from each other?
Ive also enabled the On-chip SATA IDE Controller in the bios, and I disabled the On-Chip PATA one. The manual says this should enable the VIA controller.
What am I doing wrong?  Please help me. I would like to get this SATA drive working and not have to return it and go get a regular EIDE drive.

Quote from: IceManHG on 04-March-07, 15:00:25
Thanks for the fast response. I just realized that I have 4 total connectors. Im using the ones that are for the VIA controller. I just found the ones for Promise. They are located south of the VIA ones and are spaced farther appart.
And I have already set my jumper config for Force 150.
This current config does not work. Windows setup cannot see the drives. Maybe I have the wrong driver?
ensure HDD is detected during post or if you are using Promise ensure its detected and configured from utility.
    then you will need:
    VIA VT8237(R) SATA RAID Driver --> http://download.msi.com.tw/support/dvr_exe/mbd_dvr/VIA_VT8237_SATARAID_Floppy.zip
or if drive are attached to Promise:
    http://download.msi.com.tw/support/dvr_exe/mbd_dvr/378_55.exe
extract files, navigate to "Driver" sub folder, copy all files into folder including sub folder WinXP to diskette.

  • Slow Booting Time On K8t Neo Fis2r

could someone help me with this please, at the third screen with:
    no device
    no device
it hangs for 5 minutes before it continues to boot.
    what could be the problem?

sounds to me like the Via SATA controller looking for drives but finding none.....do you have your drives connected to the Promise controller???? if so you will be able to disable the Via SATA controller in the bios settings which should eliminate this problem :P

Ok, for some reason my puter will not boot at times, it tell me one of 3 things, a) no hd detected in dos screen, b) boots to logon screen and freezes, or c) boots to a blank screen and freezes. I was thinking that mh hd was going bad but its pretty new and i have heard on other forums that some other ppl are having similar probs with msi boards. Any help would be much appreciated!

How about what PSU you have complete with the 12v amps off it's label. What timings are you set too with that RAM? What other devices do you have attached? What version of Windows? Is it a clean install and that sort of stuff. The more we know the better we can attempt to get you good help. Also make a signature here with your base specs so we don't have to hunt them down.

  • Boot Question - MSI K8T Neo FIS2R

I have the above board and installed it yesterday with a saucy Athlon 64 3200+ and Radeon 9800 Pro card, 60Gb (Pata IDE HDD) and everything is running perfectly in windows XP Pro with great performance in 3dmark tests.
The only question is with the boot up.  After the MSI logo I just get a blank screen before the Windows XP logo appears for OS boot up.
I'm used to seeing the Award Bios logo and my Processor with Memtest results etc on the screen before the OS bootup.  I've disabled SATA and the Realtek LAN in the bios which were showing up with "Bios not installed" and still there is no Award bios screen.
I'm not the most gifted when it comes to bios configs and would appreciate any help you may have.
    All the best
    Lux

Awesome, thanks for the help guys.
