ATI e-mail told me to come here about the G4 card

I helped a friend to get a computer and one of the things he got was a nice new shiny MSI G4 MX440 card with 64megs of DDR RAM and TV out!.
It has been about 1 year and 3 months now and one day his computer started sounding funny. He called me up and I had a look and it turns out that his FAN was CRACKED and APPEARED to have LEAKED out some GREASE or OIL onto the heatsink. The FAN was cracked and off balance through and it bugged him when he tried to play CS with it.
WELL. I sent e-mail to MSI (the support address) and THIS is what I got back:
To our Valued Customer,
Thank you for purchasing & supporting MSI product.
This E-mail is an automatic reply which is to notify you that you have
reached [email protected]
In order to give you an overall technical support, we have listed some
common problems and solutions for your reference.
Please take time to read the useful FAQ which we have compiled from the
technical support e-mails we have received as link and see if it helps
the problem you are facing.
http://www.msi.com.tw/html/e_service/main.htm
We hope the directions below answer your question. If your problem still
cannot be solved after going through all the suggestions, then you can
reply this e-mail containing the automatic reply with your original
e-mail. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
I. Read the Manual
Most users have tendency not to read the manual under the presumption
that they already know what is written in there. However, we have seen
that there are percentage of technical support calls & e-mails as a
result of not reading the manual
II. Keep your MSI CD drivers
MSI CD drivers provide easy driver installation via auto-run. Losing it
would require you to install driver manually
III. Contact your Reseller
Your reseller or the store/company that sold the motherboard or system
to you should know well what your system contains & have the necessary
resources to help you in your problem. Since they can see your system
clearly, it is easier for them to identify if your problem was caused of
wrong installation or wrong assembly or defective product, etc. It would
be advisable to contact your reseller for those having problems like
system cannot power on or need to send board for repair
NOTE: there is a tiny percentage that the board might be defective & by
contacting your reseller at an earlier time prevent your warranty being
voided. Some resellers provide certain period of time for
return/exchange, after that you have to either send the board to them
for repair or you are on your own.
IV. Check our website
Some of the information you are looking for might be already posted in
our website
V. Search in MSI Forum
Your problem might have encountered by another user in the forum or you
might find answer in the Good Article forum with a lot of useful posts
written by moderators & power users. You can also post a message there
to get help
VI. Read the FAQ

This was a simple problem to fix. Why the hell was I told to come here? You mean I can just DOWNLOAD a new fan?
This is what I need: A NEW FAN DAMMIT!
Not stories from other folks that had the same problem. Geeze, you would think that was the DEMOCRATIC way solve this problem, let's all just talk about and maybe it will fix itself...
Sorry, it has been a long day and this email was the straw that broke my camel's back.
Does ANYONE know of a REAL email address where I can actually ask a REAL person for a replacement fan?
AND, SINCE I am here,. WHY was this a SEALED fan with OIL or GREASE in it in the first place? is UP with that?

Hi Stilly,
Did you notice this in the e-mail MSI sent you:
------------------------------------------------------------------------- We hope the directions below answer your question. If your problem still cannot be solved after going through all the suggestions, then you can reply this e-mail containing the automatic reply with your original e-mail. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
I don't know much about this, but you may be able to buy a comparable fan fron your local computer store - take the card in and ask the guy about it (I understand computer/graphics card fans are not very expensive).
It might be worth a try.
Of course, the card may not accept any other kind of fan - it all depends on how it attaches to the card.
If you do return the card to MSI there may be be postal charges etc. so the computer store MAY be your best, quickest, and cheapest option.
Anyway, it's up to you now - good luck and let us now how you get on.

    About the Mac
I recently updated to Yosemite and now I am having problems with the above mentioned apps, not opening at all.
I am unable to check to which version its update to, or even update to next version.

You ran a defective third-party "utility" such as "CleanMyMac" or "MacCleanse" that purports to "clean up" "junk" files. What it really does is to corrupt the operating system and many applications.
The first thing you need to do is remove that software according to the developer's instructions. Never install it, or anything like it, again. Then see below. If you use any iWork applications, you may need to delete them and redownload them from the App Store.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon, usually with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

  • I was told to come here for the Mac Experts

Here I am needing some advice. For the people who really know what they are doing and like helping others by sharing the advice, my hats off to all of you. If we all shared a bit of our knowledge we learned from other sources, this place would be much better off. (that is if your careful who you share it with).
Anyway, I am in the market for a 13, 15, 13 17" (I think is the largest MBP). I am starting architect graduate school in a few weeks and I am thinking I might one day son I will need all 8 GBs of RAM. Is it logical thinking that it is best to get them now so they are covered under the Applecare plan? Pros? Cons?
I also am wanting a very sturdy (I am clumsy out in the field) 250-500 external hard drive. is 500 in GBs like the RAM is?? Is that a decent size to use for a back up and my work or what? I saw one on here and I can't remember the name but it had an orange rubber-type casing around both sides and back. it also gave you an option to use a USB port or firewire. What is a firewire? I remember there was a firewire update once for the airport extreme, but do not think I should be doing anything with that, but I better check with the experts. Is this external HD with either 400 or 800 firewire something that is wireless? is it had to get the hang of it? I remember I got an airport extreme as a gift and I got psyched out by just trying to understand it that I still have not really used it 3 years later. I will ask if the Airport Extreme 802.11n WiFi is still secure in today's wifi world?
Last question. Somebody told me you can wait until the first year warranty is over and then purchase apple care which would give a person 4 years. I did not believe them because it seems that Apple wold catch on to this type of stuff.
I forgot, one more. If I purchase one-on-one, and I want to use the first session for installing, uninstalling, migrating, etc. all the stuff from my old MBP o and from my new one using the first session, is there a special way I book this? I can't see any place to pick or select "first visit used for setting up new MBP. Is it necessary two make this clear before I show up with the programs I want to get the Programs installed (but they do install one, right?) and all the other stuff?
One final one question; I think. What are good external speakers on this website (I can't afford the Bose set-up) so that I can use the MBP as a bedside radio too?
Thanks a ton for an help.
I love to learn, so if you know what you are taking about send as much info. to help me get started out on the right foot.
    Peace!

wow, thanks. I am definitely getting the 8GB ram from Apple at the time of purchase. with the student discount it is $850 (The Univ got a bit better discount than other schools due to the size of the student body, from what I heard.
I understand the reasons not to get Apple's ram and this will be the first time I will not have installed the extra ram myself. I just do not want to have to be dealing with a final or thesis and have to get Applecare on the horn or bring it to the local Apple Store but before I do, take out the ram I installed. I am too much of a spastic guy and would be too stressful.
I have not even used Leopard yet because I do not learn this computer OS stuff easy. I wanted to use one-o-one for private stuff but i talking to the apple store, they frown on that and I thought that is what it started out to be (Personal Training). I sensed that some trainers might work with me more on this than others. it says on the website under the School's Education Store (which has their own online Apple Store-did I already say this? Sorry) that you can use the one-on-one for special school projects by doing the work there and getting help when you need it. Or you can follow their recommended areas of study, which I think is 9 areas with the first one being the migration, some about the OS, transfer of files, install programs, etc. I would not be so nervous abut this had I made the switch to Leopard, but I planned to do it this fall, which is now. I think that was a huge mistake, but I did not expect to get accepted into the program of choice until spring,if at all. However, I got in a mid-term which starts Nov. Odd terms dates, but it is like a mini semester.
I purchased the book Snow Leopard: the Missing Manual by DP and I asked him if he felt I would need the Leopard Manual too. To my surprise, if nothing more than sales, he said I should be good to go with just the Snow Leopard manual even if I have not used Leopard. Any thoughts? You guys all sound like you breath this stuff but learning a new OS for me has always been so much extra work. I think my OCD kicks in and I have to learn it all or nothing.
The School's Apple Store has a separate 4 year Applecare auto enroll. I tried to understand it a bit more from the IT help desk but they are getting ready for midterms and the wait is very really long. It is a separate Applecare for 4 years, not 3 but 4 total, counting the first year and 3 more after that. I was told by a graduate student that Apple worked with this school on his too and tis is the first year that Apple gave in and decided to do it. I hear they get a ton of business from the school.
I was debating on a desktop and a 13 MBP but I can't afford both and the 17" is big but as far as looking odd, I do not care about that. My sis got me a col bag made for the 17" and it really is not too bad. Now if it starts getting hot, I'm in big trouble. I am not sure I want to carry around one of the lap stands or desk stands for school, but I might for home. I have not hear if heat is an issue but with my 15" MBP I have now gets so hot, I can't believe it but the apple store has tested it twice and say it is within the acceptable range.
The battery is shot on my 15" MBP. It is nearly 4 years old, added some ram a larger HD and went with the faster speed, but I did not keep the one that came from apple. Anybody know what impact the current intense ram has on heat production?
Lets see. Well, I have a lot of questions. You guys are great. Thank you very much. And yes, I will use xxxxxxxxxxx.com and the school's Education Apple Store for whatever I can. The computer, without any upgrades is $400 less than the usual cost. I think the other Education Stores for the MBP 17" is $300 off and $200 for the 13 and 15".. Not sure on that.
Better take that store name out before the Apple police get me.

How do i activate my sim. Phone was locked to Virgin mobile, was told to insert my sim (telstra) go to itunes and re-register phone. Itunes keeps saying The sim card inserted in this phone does not appear to be supported. Brett

Your phone was previously hacked to get it to work on a carrier other than the one it was locked to. Restoring it restored the carrier lock.  Only the carrier it is locked to can authorize an unlock. Not all carriers will do this. You will have to find out who it is locked to and contact them.

  • HT202159 message comes on about "the product distribution file could not be verified.  It may be damaged or was not signed"

I just bought a new macbook pro --- it came with lion, updating to mountain lion.  I had to pause the download of mountain lion and today when I tried to resume it gave me the message "the product distribution file could not be located.  It may be damaged or was not signed"  How do I resume the download?

Installing the OS X Lion Update 10.7.4 (Client Combo) reinstalls the App Store for you which may help.
Restart your Mac after the combo is installed. It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.7.4.
    Then try the App Store.

    '''re: Forwarding'''
You have the option to forward the received email 'inline' or as an 'attachment'.
This can be set up here:
'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Composition' > 'General' tab
This is because you are not responding to a specific email - you are selecting to forward information from a different person to another person, which may be best sent as an attachment.
    '''re: Reply'''
In this instance you have the option to either:
    * include the received email in a reply
    * Not include the received email in a reply
    * include selected part (quote) of received email in reply.
A Reply implies a continued conversation and so the option to include the conversation is available.
    This is set up here:
'Tools' > 'Account Settings' > 'Composition & Addressing' for the mail account.
But regardless of whether you choose to 'automatically quote the original message when replying' or not, you can always highlight a section of text and then click on 'Reply' to include only the selected section of text.
A Reply will also not include any attachments that were received attached to the original email because you do not need to send back the senders own attachments.
Otherwise you create a new 'Write' message and attach the original email, so it is not technically a Reply - you do not use the 'Reply' button and these emails will not be threaded. It makes it more difficult to see continuity of conversation.

We are talking about the Mail app, right? In the Mail menubar, click on Window and then Previous Recipients:
That eliminates the previous recipients. If you are talking about the suggestions because there are 10 people with the name 'Steve' in your Contacts, then I do not know how to eliminate those unless you change the name slightly or wait until you type the last name or some other differentiator.

  • Question about the new Mail shiped with Lion

    Hi,
I've this quick one to the Dev's which have already worked with Lion's Mail.
Would it be possible to do simple file copy from Snow Mail to Lion Mail ?
I am not asking about the migration possibilyties during upgrade because my current MBP is a Core Duo one and therefore can't use them for Lion.
My MBP 2006 needs to be upgraded soon :-) and will take place in the comming weeks. And I am wondering how to transfer my current mails to the new platform OS since Lion Mail is upgraded as well.
Is the Filesystem Layout from Lion Mail the same as in Snow Mail which allows me to do a plain FS copy ?
    Thxs in advance

    Hi,
I've just spent a good hour or so trying to work out how I can move my existing emails and mail accounts from my MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard) machine to my brand new iMac (Lion) machine.
    Have not had much luck.
I copied over ~\Library\Preferences\com.apple.mail.plist and the files in ~\Library\Mail and ~\Mail Downloads.
When I start mail in Lion, it asks me for new email account information so has no idea of my existing accounts.  Once I re-enter one of my email accounts, I get all my old folders but all the emails are missing....
Is there a simple way to copy accross the accounts and existing mails.  I have tried the Migration Assistant, but I dont want to end up with a new account on the machine just to get the mail accross.
I'm pretty sure I did the same process between two snow leopard machines and it worked fine....
    thanks for any help...

  • The 4GB card is here!!!!

weve all been hearing about the 4GB cards coming soon....they are here and ready to ship....
alot of you may ask so how does that help as as many/most phones do not support 4gb cards...
we the rumour mill has stated that although no nokia phones currently support the 4gb cards that support for such is just a firmware update away from supporting these cards....thus when the 4gb cards hit the market a fw update should bring most phones up to date....good news aint it?

So what do y mean bro?
I mean these 4 GBs are on HCSD format and is not clear whether the old phones like n91 or n80 won't support it after even FW upgrade?
Yes! Is technical possible to do a firmware upgrade of existing phones, like N73 or N80 to support SDHC cards. But like I said on previous post, the change of phones is so quick, that is most probable that these ones rest to support only 2Gb SD cards, and only new phones, go to support SDHC cards. The problem is that new announces, like E90, N77 don´t have also support for SDHC cards, which means only, maybe, on 2008 we go have phones with that support.
