Attachement file links in JSP dont open

Hi All,
In my JSP page, I have attachment file links which are as follows:
xlserror.ppt
When I click on the link, a new browser opens and it shows all garbage. The browser is not able to find PowerPoint application to display the file. What could be the problem? Am using Win NT as my server and Tomcat as the JSP container.
Previously I had this application in IIS, ASP combination which opened all the attachments in the browser by finding the correct application.
Another question is:
Is how you name the file critical? Coz following is one of the prblems that I have seen. If I name the file "xlserror#1.ppt" then following is the link:
xlserror#1.ppt
When I click on the link, the browser goes to the following location:
http://domain/MyApp/Attachments/757/xlserror
and therefore I get "resource not found" error. Is using '#' in the filename not good practice? I never had this experience with ASP.

1) For your browser to know what application to use you have to declare the kind of content you are sending to the browser.
So you have to set the content type of the response object with the proper MIME type.
For ppt files, i think is application/vnd.ms-powerpoint or something similar, check it.
2)About the # character: If you have a # in your url ( www.server.com/app/docum#ent) ,your browser will ask for the www.server.com/app/docum and then will scroll down the page till the ent anchor.
(This is basic html. Maybe you should go to the w3schools.com ;) )

Unable to upload files using firefox, be it dropbox, gmail or any other websites where we need to attach files. It does not open up a new window to choose file.

all of a sudden im unable to attach files in any of the websites. Im using firefox version 30 and when I click to attach file it does not open up a new window where we can choose the file from my computer. It happens almost in all websites that I use (gmail, dropbox, other websites).
This was not the case before, seem some problem with firefox.. can somebody fix this at the earliest. thanks

please check if this problem appears as well when you try to download a file, does this happen again when you try to download a file?
if so there must be a problem with your HDD controler, to solve this issue follow th steps:
1.Right Click on My Computer, Select Properties
2.Click on Device Manager in Top Left corner
3.expand the IDA/ATI/ATAPI controllers
4.right click on the one which is related to your HDD
5.click on Uninstall
6.Restart
when you restart your windows the OS will try to install the drivers again, if this happens then restart again and check if the problem is solved, if no try to install the HDD drivers and related drivers manually and then restart your machine

Is there a way to attach files linked in FormCentral form to email notifications?

As part of my FormCentral form design, the end User is required to link a file (copy of Purchase Order). Is there a way of forcing this file to attach to the email notifications? I can obviously see the file attachments in the backend and download from there, but it would be preferable if I could deliver with the email notification to circumvent other processes.
Any suggetsions?

So how can a project link to thoser attachment?

As far as I know function module BDS_ALL_CONNECTIONS_GET
can be used to determine existence of BDS and ArchiveLink attachments for a specific object.
I suggest you to consult the Technology forum. The BC guys are the real experts in BDS rather than us in PLM.

Linking to a MS word file in Safari does not open the file

I access a web site that has hyperlinks to MS Word files. When I click on the link the following happens.
1. I get a new empty window
2. I get the download window showing the file
But the file does not load in Word.
I have to manually click on the file to load it into word.
When I access the same page with Firefox,and click on the hyperlink the Word file loads into Word with no action required by me.
Is this they way Safari works or is there some preference I can set to make it load the file into Word?
Safari does open pdf files fine.

This is normal for a site that has the Word files links set up to open in a new page. (Which is almost necessary in Windows IE, since IE will open the Word doc in the same browser window otherwise, losing all web site navigation.) But Safari doesn't open Word files directly, so you get that blank new window while the file downloads in the background.
But the file does not load in Word.
What do you have in Safari > Preferences, in the General section, for "Open safe files after downloading"? If you have that box checked, files that the Mac OS considers "safe" (JPEGs, PDF files, etc.) will open automatically in the default program for that type of file. The only question is whether Word documents are considered safe. They might not be, since they can carry macro viruses. Checking now...
I tested that, and it seems that Word files are not considered "safe" files and will not open automatically with that setting checked. The alternative: when the downloads window opens, it shows the file you just downloaded. You can double-click on the Word file's icon to open it in Word, without navigating to the downloaded file on your hard drive to open it.

Attaching files in Edmodo...

My kids are using a program called edmodo for school. They are required to upload their saved homework files nightly. However, when using our iMac (OS X 10.7.5)...when I click on the 'attach file' icon in edmodo, Finder opens...but I cannot browse any individual Documents. Clicking Choose File attaches the entire Document folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In answering to your question, there are 3 layers in SAP R/3 namely
Presentation Layer (GUI), - User Interfacing Screen
(ii) Application Layer, - Where the transaction processing takes place
(iii) Database Layer - Where the data/ values of the system will get stored
Attachements to PO: (Options Availability)
Option I:
System has the option to store the data(file) embedded to the PO by storing directly into the Database Layer , which inturn proportionately reduces the processing speed of the system
Option II:
Separate storage system for the documents storage can be defined thru Cross-Application component (DMS-Document Management System) in Customizing, which is termed as Content Server (for example, fileserver, database, external archive)
This second option requires a separate content server as a database, for simpler usage and application a PC can play the role as content server
Hence the Option needs to be intitially Identified and necessary settings to be enabled thru the help of DMS Consultant and BASIS Consultant
In Option I, the datas are get stored into PO in the format eg., 5000000000 - 10 (line item 10) into the database layer
In Option II,
   I STEP: The data or file needs to be uploaded(Document IN) into the content server thru CV01N,   specifying the correct Document type for storage into the Content Server
   II STep: Creation of link between the PO Documnt (Line item) and the uploaded document by searching/specifying the uploaded file in PO Screeen (Note: This can be done thru ONLY Line Item Wise, not for whole PO)
The Access of the Document can be done thru opening the PO and line item.
The uploaded Docuemnts into the content Server can be searched thru CV04N, by provideing the necessary filter criteria (Doc type, Version, User, etc.,)

Post Migration from SP2010 -Attach File Button not working in any list new/edit forms

Hi,
We have migrated the SharePoint 2010 farm to Sharepoint 2013 on last saturday and we are noticing an interesting issue after the migration .
On any custom list on any web application ,When we create a new item,if we click on attach file button in the ribbon,nothing shows up on the screen.
In the browser Dev Tools its showing an error message as "Cannot read Property style of null".
This is happening on a javascript (form.debug.js) on line No : 5276
(document.getElementById("partAttachment")).style.display = "block";
There is no element rendered in html with id "partAttachment",which is causing this error to happen.
Solutions tried are
1) Modified the List Advanced Settings to disable and enable the attachments ,which did not work
2) Ran the Sharepoint Configuration wizard which did not fix
3)Tried reset the site definition for all pages in the site from site settings
4) Deactivated and activated all the activated features in the site collection
Its an OOB List New Form,no customizations has been done.
Similar error occurring with List Edit form as well
when you click on the List Item in the List default view when you navigate to the list and when you click on attach file,a popup dialog to upload attachments appearing,However its not working when you
navigate into the list item and tried to upload attachment.
Please help if any Solutions / thoughts

Method,we used is restored the content DB from SP2010 and attaching to SP2013 SQL Server
Site Collection is in 15 mode
It happens on new site collection even though its not migrated site.
Server is 16GB RAM 8Core Processor
If we create a new form from designer,attach file link is working
OOB New form.aspx is having List Form webpart
Custom New Form.aspx creaed with designer has data form webpart
if we create a new sharpoint site collection in 2010 mode,its working fine without any issues
Interestingly,all the javascript files loading were debug.js,Not sure how its loading all debug.js files

Attach photos as icons, not already opened?

When I attach a photo to an email, the opened photo fills the text area. I'd rather the photos show up as icons, not as already opened photos. How do I do this?

Hello Roger.
The Mail application displays all image/photo and single page PDF attachments inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default which cannot be turned off. This applies to received and sent messages with such attachments.
You can control-click on such an attachment and select View as Icon but regardless, depending on the recipient's email client and available preference settings, such attachments may appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message when the message is opened by the recipient (as with the Mail application when receiving/opening a message with such attachments) or as attached files only which must be opened separately to be viewed for which the sender has no control over.
The reverse is true. Windows Outlook and OE display such attachments as attached files only (icons) but when sent to a Mail.app user, the attachments appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message when the message is opened.
When I switched from using Entourage to the Mail.app when Jaguar was introduced, this took a little getting used to but I prefer it since it provides confirmation that I have selected the correct photo file before the message is sent and has no determination on how such an attachment is received by the recipient.
I haven't used it but you can purchase a 3rd party plugin for the Mail.app called Mail Attachments Iconizer.

Adobe downlaod asssistant dont open

hello.i noticed the last 6 months,that the ''half '' times i try to install adobe download assistant it can't run at all.i have forced to reinstall 4 times my OS(upgrade FROM WIN 7 TO WIN 8 PRO X86) ,for other reasons. the first installation and running of application was succesfull.after second reinstall the opening of exe file was inpossible.same know!!what is happened?is not worth it to reinstall my OS ,just to able to install just ''one'' exe file.i tried to disable antivurs and firwall but the problem remain.any solution please?(except to download the trials of cs6 directly).the exe file is downlaoded but dont open at all!!!!!any help please?

elements 11 and acrobat XI .i have downloaded the adobe downlaod assistant but it don't open at all with right clik.it appears a window(with binary file) but can't run!!.the download location is my download folder on c drive.i try to open exe file from my c\users filed or from my external drive but nothing happened!!i try to redownloaded but the probleM remain..is a bug?it is responsibe the upgrading from win 7 to win 8?is not 100% compatible with win 8?thanks from your patience

Link to a file in the jsp page does not open correctly

Hi all,
I have a JSP application which is similar to a discussion forum and the messages usually carry a link to an attachment file which could be of any extension.
The client pool I am dealing with are concerned only with MS Word/Excel/PPT files. When the user clicks on the file, a new browser window opens but it does not open the file in the correct application. I know that browsers can display Doc, ppt and xls files.
In my case, the browser just shows some garbage. THe link is to the correct file, I know that because I can right click and download the file and then open it in the correct application. But I want browser to find the application and open the file.
Can somebody give me hints as to what may be wrong?
Also, I am in the development stage and therefore I have only 100 odd messages in the database. Many have attachements. But only one attachment to a particular message works well..ie the browser finds MS Word and displays the doc.
Why not the remaining doc/ppt files?

Unless you believe middle-click is yours and don't like it being usurped, mine is set globally to "Enter".

Previously, after I moved an attached file to another folder, there still remain a link so that I can click and open the file; but now there is no more link.

Previously, when I got an email with an attached file, I can take out the file to different folders as I desire and then a filelink would take the place of the file in the email. In this way, when I opened email again, I can click the filelink and open the attached file in the folder to which I had moved.
Now, I find that there is no more such filelink after I take out the file. The attached file cannot be opened within the email now. Is the program changed or I miss anything?

did you install an add-on that did that? or are you thinking of another mail program like Eudora?

When I click on this link I get the download dialog box. If I open it I get the following open up in notepad(the files I am trying to give download links are .txt files)

I know this code is probably not a good way of doing what I need but I got it to work fine until the change.

Well all was fine with this jsp until I moved it to ApacheJServ. Now the problem has resurfaced(although it is a little different now)

The problem I am having now is that when I click on one of the links and download the file and then open it, I get the contents of the file plus concatenated to the end of it is the first few HTML lines of the actual jsp that I downloaded the file from. Before I was just getting the first few lines of html from the jsp, not the actual contents of the downloaded file.

Now I want When I click on the workset iview link,
It should open another workset iview in which the iviews are displayed as links.

(Workset Iview1)Clickable                                                    Workset Iview2 Clickable
When workset iview1 is clicked, it should go to a page
Link 1(an iview) Link 2(iview2) Link 3(iview3) and so on

Hi,
I have a PDF with and a file attached to it (Excel sheet). I want to make a link in my document to open the attached file. How can I do that?
The background:
I was not my first idea to attach the file. I would like better linking the file which is normally on a mapped network drive. I have to share my PDF between users and I did no manage putting an absolute link into my PDF. If the first part of my question does not work, can someone tell me how I can put a static (link will never change), absolute link to a file which is on a mapped network drive?

It's possible, but only using a script... (I was talking about linking to an attached file, not an external file on a server)
