Attaching scroll bar to plot legend palette

Hi all,
I am working with graphs. And many of my graphs include a number of plots.
Because of the increased number of plots, many of the plot names can not be in the plot legend palette as it beyond the visible area.
Is there any way to program a scroll bar's movement attached to the plot legend palette?
Thanks in advance

  • Scroll bar on legend for xy graph

Is there a way to create a scroll bar for the legend of an XY graph?  The number of entries in the legend will be changing programmatically so the legend needs to be able to grow dynamically (which I have figured out how to do using property nodes).  Any ideas?

Ultimately I will have 6 xy graphs in my vi, I would like to have a seperate scroll bar for the legend of each graph.  Each graphs legend will both grow and shrink as the program runs and I would like to use the scroll bar to keep the legend from growing off of the screen.  I would like to be able to dislpay the data from the point (6 m/s for example) along with its symbol on the xy graph (red dot for example) in the legend.  If I am umderstanding you correctly I need to bundle the type and color of the plot into a cluster with the data and then link that cluster to the scroll bar, I assume I can read the property node for each data point (setting it to active plot first) for both plot style and color?  Let me know if I am thinking about this correctly or if I have misinterpreted what you are saying.  Thank you very much for your help!

  • Chart legend scroll bar

    Hi,
i have a chart and legend in a panel..
when there are more than 20+(depends on size of the panel and
in my case it is around 20) legend items, legend items occupies
most of the place and which in turn shrinking chart..(so chart is
    not clear in this case).
can i have something like, "add a scroll bar to the legend..,
if it is shrinking the chart more than 50% of the actual size of

  • Disabled item in plot legend when scrollbar is visible

Problem is that plot legend shows only the plots being displayed correctly, while plot legend scrollbar is not being displayed, which is being controlled using LegPlotMin and LegNumRows properties. But when plot legend scrollbar is enabled (when number of plots exceed a certain number) then one disabled item (already being displayed in the enabled item above it) becomes visible. How to not show it while plot legend scrollbar is visible?
Second question. If plot legend scrollbar is visible and the user has scrolled it to the bottom and left it there and then selects options where the number of plots are less than a certain threshold and the scrollbar is set to invisible, using property node; then the only lower disabled plot names are shown. So how do I set the scroll position for plot legend scrollbar. I could not find any scroll position property for plot legend scrollbar.
    Thanks

It is true that you cannot set the index of the topmost displayed plot in a plot legend. It's a missing property! To accommodate long legends, I have used two graphs, one hidden behind the other. Both receive all the data, and their two legends are aligned side by side. In fact, I wrote a routine to align legends of stacked plots, which I've attached here for you. Maybe you'll find it useful!

    Dear friends,
    I am using Labview 8.2.1
Recently I came across a strange behaviour of XY Graph. Some times the Graph Plot Legend, Palette just disappear from the tab in which i am using this graph. I am attaching a picture of this.
This seems to be a bug. Please suggest any fix.

    Dear friends,
    Thanks for your replys.
Aeastet - I could not attach the complete code as it is very lage and distributed in many Vi's. However I would like to inform that I am certainly using Local Variables and Property nodes to set somethings on graph. For local variable I just connected History to constant to make the graph blank in the begining. I am attaching photos of all of them for your referance.
    Vaibhav -  Same as above
Gaurav - I could not open the VI sent by you as it is in the newer version of LV. However please tell if you have done something to correct the problem.

  • Scroll bar for tabcontrol

Iam using Tabcontrol in my project. On tabcontrol Iam having lot of controls and indicators. The problem is I cannot see all the controls and indicators on a single screen i.e I should move the tabcontrol up and down.I would like to know wether can I attach scroll bar to the tabcontrol so that I can see all the controls and indicators by scrolling.

One fix is to but your controls on a subpanel and then on the tab control, this would work but my real suggestion is to simplify the views. If you have so many controls on each tab, see if you can regroup them so you have more tabs and fewer controls. I have found that users prefer few controls and indicators visible at a time for easy-to-use GUIs. A much more complicated solution you could implement your own tab control scroll bar and programatically move controls on the scroll (labview slide control not a real window scroll) event. Still it is best to keep designs "as simple as possible without being to simple". Also I have never seen a scrollbar on a tabcontrol and such nonstandard GUI experiences are probably not suggested.

  • Scroll bar in 10 g

How to attach scroll bar to my form in oracle forms 10g.

    hi,
    i read it.
and i set my Window's Show Vertical Scrollbar property to Yes.
Though it is not being displayed.
When i Set my Block's Show Scroll bar Property to Yes and Scroll Bar Canvas Property to CANVAS6, Scrollbar is displayed byt it is not activated.not clear, but if you are trying to scroll the canvas and see the items then you have to set the canvas's horizontal scroll bar to 'yes'.

  • Start position on plot legend scrollbar

If I right click on the plot legend I can show the index display and vertical scrollbar. When I move the scrollbar the index changes accordingly. Does anyone know how to programmatically find the value of this index so that I know which plot labels the user sees. I've tried looking at the property node but I can't see anything that gives me what I need.

    Thanks for your reply Rob.
I was thinking that was the case. Sometimes it’s possible that there are clever little tricks hidden away in the set up screens. I’ve ended up now with my old method which looks very clumsy (see attached vi), I can make it look much better when I get the scroll bar position.
I’ll follow up on the product suggestion though as it would be a very useful feature.

  • How to remove entries from the plot legend?

    Hello,
I have got a waveform graph to display measurement data. Sometimes there will be 40 plots shown. The plot legend also expands to 40 and I limit the number of elements shown in the Plot legend and I have activated the vertical scroll bar. Of course 40 plots are too many to work with. So the user has the ability to select plots to be shown. Now I want to decrease the number of elements in the plot legend as well. But if there were once 40 elements the plot legend remains in this size and the vertical scroll bar indicates that there are more elements than shown even if there are only e. g. two plots in the graph.
I don't want to increase and decrease the number of plots shown in the plot legend programmatically each time the user changes the number of plots shown. Secondly the plot legend shall have a maximum number of 20 elements (otherwise it would exceed my front panel). So I don't want to programmatically check whether to show the vertical scroll bar or not.
The legend should look like a partially filled array with grayed out elements.
    How do I do this?
Is there a simple way to clear the plot legend and remove all entries?
    Regards, Jörn

    Hi Suse,
your example does not exactly solve my problem. I wanted the plot legend always to show 10 legend entries.
But it helped me to find the solution: set LegNumRows to 10 and set LegPlotMin to the number of plots in the Graph (see attached example).
One thing is still missing: setting the plot number currently at the top of the legend. If you run the attached example with 30 plots shown, scroll the legend down and run the VI once again with 3 plots shown then you will see no plots in the legend despite the fact that all could be shown. You need to move the scroll bar first to see the 3 elements.
    Best regards, Jörn

  • Sub-charts on same scroll bar

I have 6 streams of data that I want to plot on waveform charts.  The first 4 have the same y-scaling, so I have them clustered together into a chart.  The other 2 streams have a different y-scaling, so I have them each on their own chart.  All 6 share the same time data, though.
Is there a way to cluster them all together into one chart that is partially overlayed (the first 4) and partially stacked (the last 2)?  Ideally, something that looks similar to the screen capture I've attached, but with one x-scroll bar at the bottom that scrolls all 4 plots together.
    Thanks!

  • Horizontal scrollbar for plot legend

    Hello,
The plots in my plot legend for a graph can have quite long names so it would be great having a horizontal scrollbar.
    Quote from here
    >>To add a scroll bar to a plot legend, right-click the plot legend and select Visible Items»Horizontal Scrollbar or Visible Items»Vertical Scrollbar from the shortcut menu.
I can see the entry horizontal scrollbar, but it is always grayed out, what's wrong?
Thanks a lot for your help!
    Cheers,
    Rico

I think you are misinterpreting the use of the scrollbar.  If you have a lot of plots on your graph, then you can use the scrollabr to not show all the plots at once and this allows you to scroll through the list.  It does not allow you to make the plot legend smaller to hide long names and scoll across.
So, if you resize the plot to be horizontal, then you can display the horizontal scrollbar:
If you resize it vertically, then you can display the vertical scrollbar:

  • How to remove a plot and resize the plot legend in LV 8.6 as in this link to a LV 7.0 example

This VI ( ftp://ftp.ni.com/pub/devzone/epd/201150.vi ) works exactly as I want an 8.6 application to - but the property node used in the example is no longer supported.
I can add/remove plots and resize the plot legend with 8.6 using the "LegNumRows" property however this property does not appear to behave the same way.
It seems this should be straight forward but I must be missing something.
    Solved!

    Hi again!
I have implemented a method to shuffle the plots in the legend and was satisfied with one exception- the plot colors. This application allows the user to add or delete plots from the graph, adding a plot is easy as the new plot name gets appended to the next place on the legend and the number of rows grows by one. Deleting a plot is also quite easy but this action brought up a usability issue in that the existing plots that were shuffled on the legend would also shift their colorsaccordingly. To eliminate possible confusion I want to keep the correlation between existing plots and their assigned colors so I tried to use the plot color property to change the plot color programmatically with unexpected results.
Programmatically changing a color from the "Plot Colors" array does not change the color of that plot if it is set to any of the "Common Plots" wih the exception of "Common Plot 0" - i.e. this doesn't seem to work for Bar Plots which is what I am using.
I have attached a demo VI to illustrate this behavior - there are detailed free labels on the front panel which describe this in more detail.
    Regards and thank's in advance!

  • Remove Scroll bars in a URL iView

    hi
I am attaching more than one( three or four) URL iview to a page and while opening the page, I don't want the Scroll bars to appear on the page.
    how can this be done?
and heard of isolation method.....but doubts whether it is available in EP 7
    Thanks in advance.

I don't care about the iView functionalities...
this I am doing as part of the spacing issue I am facing with the iViews.
for URL iview I guess there is no isolation method.
    for pages it comes.
but for some other iviews the isolation method is there.

  • How can I limit the vertical size of the plot legend?

    Hi all,
in my program I use a waveform graph and its plot legend.
My problem is that the vertical size of the plot legend increases out of my frame and screen if I add too many plots to the graph!!!!
Is there a possibilty to limit the vertical size of the plot legend and/or to use a vertical scrollbar in the plot legend?
    I use LV 8.2.1 .
    Thanks
    daHans

You can write to the "Active Plot" property node. The example given in the thread I linked to before shows using this. Did you take a look at that example?
I'm only suggesting the alternative of an "Active Plot" control if you're trying to give the user the ability to manipulate one of the plots (like color, point style, etc). If you have a lot of plots, and the plot legend is too big, you can provide a numeric control where the user selects the plot, and then additional controls to set the properties for that plot. Not as intuitive as the plot legend, but if that's what you've gotta do, that's what you've gotta do. Attached is a simple example (LabVIEW 8.20).
