Attempting to install Maverick, error message says I cannot use my hard drive as a start up disk.

The IT department where I work erased the hard drive and rebooted it to 10.7.5. In attempting to upgrade it to Maverick I encountered the error message saying that I cannot use this hard drive as the start up disk (or something to that effect). I read a couple of posts saying either to partition the hard drive or erase it entirely and boot from the recovery hard drive. Before doing any of that I booted using the option key, but did not find a recovery drive to boot to… only the disk0s2.
Some stats on my computer:
15-inch, late 2011
2.4 ghz intel core i7
AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB
C02H825CDV7P

The partition table is corrupt. Boot into Internet Recovery (option-command-R at the startup chime) and partition the drive with the default options (GUID format, one data partition.) The operation will destroy all data on the drive, so you'll have to restore from a backup.
