Attempting to install printer on USGCB Win7 image

Hello everyone. I''m attempting to run the installation for a printer within the USGCB standards, also within a government network with policies and restrictions in place.
On our Windows XP machines, this printer installs fine. On our Win7 machines, it does not. I right click, run as admin, and the program executes (procmon verifies this) but we don't end up with a printer in the printers control panel. The vendor is at a
loss, as it works fine on other Win7 images. I am at a loss, after attempting tons of troubleshooting methods and not being able to even determine the root cause of the blocked installation.
Troubleshooting attempted: During installation, all logs, event monitor output, process monitor output, etc seem to indicate that the printer should be installing, however, the proper registry entries and files are not being created. There are no errors
that pop up. We've had several IT and Security professionals, as well as ImageNow and PeerNet technicians review to no avail. We have dropped the machine from the GPO restrictions, verified valid certificates, and added administrator rights to the accounts,
folders, and files, disabled UAC, DEP, and antivirus, and something is still blocking file creation, however, we can't find any indication of what might be doing the blocking. Other programs can write to the output folders (cutepdf installation is successful).
I am running as Admin.
Any tips, pointers, suggestions, or ways of identifying exactly what is blocking the installation would be greatly appreciated. I left out hundreds of pages of back and forth between me and other troubleshooters, so there's sure to be some things I know
I have done and left out. Honestly, what I really need, is just to know WHICH setting (if it is a GPO setting, or if it's something else) that is blocking the installation, so that we can setup an exception or decide what our path will be. Thanks.

I would guess the driver is not installing correctly, since there are no files placed in the "C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3" directory as I am told i should expect, and as gets done on a non USCGB installation of win7. I would also guess it
is packageware. I'm told it's digitally signed by our security professionals and the vendor, but never verified this myself. I'm not sure if it's calling spooler API's either. This is the first set of questions i've been asked in 6 months that seem to lead
a direction other than the ones I've taken, so i greatly appreciate your time.
Here's a code block of the OEMsetup.inf file, which i assume is the one that might answer your questions. If not, let me know and I will be happy to follow your instructions or google instructions on getting that info. I'm pretty good with computers and
programming, but don't do much when it comes to printers.

I had McAfee installed previously on this one month old computer as it was free, but after that expired i tried to use my BT entitlement. I go through the steps and download DMsetup-serial but running this when connected to the internet crashes my computer. I am running Win7 on Toshiba satellite L450D-13G. Have tried running MCPR which comes back clean, then MVT which says unable to download from McAfee server. This doesnt seem to be the problem since i can download the DMsetup file with no problems. I tried McAfee support and they said to come here. When i run the installer without an internet connection it simply fails stating that it needs the connection.

  • How to install printer which is not listed in the software list

I just bought Canon MX372 and I am having a hard time installing it. I have installed the software that came with it and yet I can't add it as printer?
It is always giving me a msg to update the software and when I accept to update it takes a minute and then says software is not available?!!
any idea what is going on?

    Okay.
First, got any third-party login items? If so, disable them (and list here for info).
Got any other third-party software that might impact printing?
    Then try this:
Keep the installer or dmg you just downloaded from Apple if you haven't already trashed it.
If you haven't done so, repair permissions on startup drive and reset PRAM.
Then go to Print & Scan prefs and delete any printers.
Then go to Macintosh HD/Library/Printers. (You will have to enter password to authorize this)
    Restart.
Be sure printer is connected (hard wired, not wireless) and turned on.
Then reinstall Canon drivers downloaded from Apple, restart, and attempt to install printer.

  • When I plug in my IPOD Nano into a USB port, the computer recognizes it as a printer.  It then attempts to install the printer software, which is already installed.  The only way to fix it is to unplug the printer.  Any thoughts?

  • I have attempted to install Acrobat Pro as a trial, just to print some magic tricks for my daughter

I have attempted to install acrobat pro as a trial just to print some magic tricks for my daughter. The acrobat installed but when i attempt to print the pdf file it says i have to sign in to acrobat but then it goes round and round, (i am currently signed in to adobe,) and says over and over 'retry' either my computer is not connected to the internet, which it is, or the clock on my computer is wrong, which it isnt. help????

That's a lot of trouble to go to to print something - you can use the free Adobe Reader for that.

  • Not able to install sysprepped Windows 8.1 image, an OfflineServicing error appears.

    Hello
I have Windows 8.1 Enterprise image failing at the end of the PE phase from a
WDS Server. I´ve searching through every related post but nothing solves the issue. My scenario is similar to this one (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/7ce4c49d-e8a4-460a-ae17-240daaf5f50e/deploying-a-win7-image-via-wds-fails-with-offlineservicing-error?forum=w7itproinstall),
but with Windows 8.1 Enterprise instead.
Basically, I have sysprepped Windows 8.1 and capture the image successfully without any problem. Then, I´ve uploaded the image to my WDS without any unattend xml file, but when trying to install it I get the following error message after completing the "Expanding
    Windows Files" phase:
“Windows could not apply unattend settings during pass [offlineServicing]”
I´ve used the official image release, plus the only one partition disk is formatted before the installation. Every configuration seems to be set correctly. I wonder if there is any particular issue related to Windows 8.1.
I´ve already done this procedure with many other OS images and I´ve never got this error message.
Furthermore, I also tried to perform the installation with an empty unattend answer file attached to the deployed image, but the error still appears.
I wonder if the Win8.1 image needs a proper configuration of the unattend answer file, specially on the
Pass 2 of OfflineServicing. Unfortunately I don´t know how to configure it. I would like to keep the credentials and partition configuration be set manually.
Thank you for any help you can give me.

Hello, thanks for the replay but I didn't found any relevant log file on the client machine.
Unattend mode is unchecked, and I haven't used DISM at all when creating the image. I haven't also opened nor updated any metroApp (although if this were the case, it would raise an issue on sysprep phase).
X:\Windows\panther directory does not exists; (C: volume is not available at installation phase)
X:\Windows\diagerr.xml doesn't have any relevant information (it defines some AtrributeType tags with a number in a xml format but it has no content on any tag.)
    X:\windows\tracing\ folder is empty;
    X:\windows\Logs & \Logs\CBS folders are empty;
I've checked all the volume and I couldn't find any relevant log which shows an error on the instalation.
In addition, I tried to look into WDS server, but the Enable Log property that the article refers for Windows Server 2012 (WDS is installed in a Windows Server 2012), is not shown at the
    EventViewer - Deployment-Services-Diagnostics section. Plus, I search the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Tracing\WDSMGMT
entry in order to enable it, but it does not exist.
WDS worked and is working without any issue regardless this Windows 8.1 image. I don't think it has a somthing to do with its configuration.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

  • Officejet Pro 8620 won't print the "full pasted image"contained in a Word 2007 document

Just upgraded and installed for Officejet Pro 8620. Running with Windows 7, 64bitWhen printing a page that includes a image that was copy/ paste, using the snipping tool into the word document,  it does not print the "full image".  In print Preview the full image appears, but when it prints about 15% of the bottom edge and the right edge of the image is omitted.  This was not a problem when printing from the Office jet 8600.   It is not a problem of page width or length because text is printing just fine.We removed all prior printing software, and re-installed the new printing software, disabled the printer firewall, and problem still occurs. Please advise what other information is needed.  Thanks.

  • Problems installing CS6 Upgrade on Win7 64Bit

I purchased the upgrade from CS4 to CS6 Design and Web Premium.  I've tried 4 times now to install, with  varying degrees of success.  The first attempt installed about half the products and gave an enormous error list. The second installed everything except Acrobat and InDesign. Subsequent attempts to install just these two additional programs always give an "Installation Failed", and a seemingly common problem across all latest versions and operating systems of the installer failing to access certain files/folders.
EDIT: The installer also always says that the machine needs a reboot, when it has just been re-booted and certainly doesn't!  I continue anyway.
I have already cleared the Temp folder with no difference, and NIS2012 is disabled during the install.
Any ideas of how to get these vital last two programs to install please?

Mylenium,  I've checked for any instances of ther installer, and rebooted, several times - same result.
I've also uninstalled, rebooted, and then done a new install of CS6. This gave the following errorlog, and rolled back the installation of Acrobat after a desktop icon had appeared, and also InDesign.
Much closer to a working install this time, but says it can't find some language specific files, abd I still get one 'file in use error'. Would it be worth dowbloading the 'trial' installer disc (if that's possible), as I guess it's still early in the CS6 release cycle?
I've downloaded the Cleanup utility, but a brief look at the instructions worries me as it seems to say it will delete all CS related user files (presumably it deletes the folder tree), and will it leave my working CS4 alone as I'm stuck otherwise?
    Thx
    Colin

  • Firefox 5 not printing background (colors and images) despit it's selection in Page Setup. Previous version worked fine.

I upgraded to FireFox 5, but it is not printing background (images and colors) for certain pages which previously printed fine with my earlier version. Print Preview DOES shows the background images, but when sent to printer or PDF, background images do not appear in the printed output.

I wish it were that but a long time ago when I had a problem with the gadgets with iGoogle back 6 months ago thereabouts I was asked to disable it then and I did and I just went to re-check and it is still not enabled, however, it will not let me un-install it though.. It only gives me an option to enable or disable.. Any advice ? So I'm wondering if it is something else still or is there a problem with the avast still ?
thanks again for your help. Mind you that this all started when blogger went down ..

  • MSIExec error when re-installing printer drivers

    Hello,
Recently I had to uninstall and install again drivers for my printer since Windows went crazy and did not let the printer accept Word document to print. But when installing it shows MSIExec error (image below). I tried to uninstall all the printer goodies (apps and help center), tried to clean registers manually with regedit and tried to change data USB connector. No success.
Since I live in Czech Republic, use czech version of Windows and czech installer, the text shows in czech. The important is below.
What's that error kind of and what does the return code mean? How to fix it?
Using printer LaserJet 100 color MPF M175a on Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit edition...
Please, help quickly, I need to print some important document...

    Hey @Polda18,
Generally the error 'an install operation took too long to execute' is related to system files on your actual computer. There should be no reason you would need to increase the RAM on your computer. Cleaning up the registry is not a bad idea but I'm going to suggest a few more steps first under your normal User Account.
Step 1: Install Using HP Smart Install:
    1. Press the Power button or switch to turn off the product, if it is not off already.
    2. Disconnect the USB cable from both the product and the computer, if you already connected it.
    3. Press the Power button or switch to turn on the product.
    4. Reconnect the USB cable to the product and to the computer
The HP Smart Install program should start automatically. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.
Should this also fail, please proceed to the next step.
    Step 2: Disable Smart Install:
On the front panel of your printer select the 'Setup' button (the wrench)
Under the Setup menu right arrow over to Service Menu and select OK
Under Service Menu right arrow to 'Smart Install' and select OK
Under Smart Install please turn OFF this feature and select OK
Once Smart Install is disabled, proceed to the next step.
Step 3: Run a Selective Startup on the Computer:
Click on your Start menu and in the 'search programs and files' box type msconfig and hit enter
A System Configuration Utility box will now open. Under the 'general' window select 'Selective Startup' and only uncheck 'Load Startup Items'
Click on the 'Services' tab at the top
At the very bottom select the checkbox for 'Hide all Microsoft Services'
Select 'Disable All' on the right
Select Apply and then OK and restart your computer when prompted
Step 4: Run an SFC /SCANNOW:
This is a scan that will run on your computer. Should it identify any system corruption it will tell you. Should the scan request that you insert your Operating System disk it does indicate that you have a corruption of your actual computer and your Operating System will need to be reinstalled.
Go to your Start menu and type CMD
CMD will populate as an option above, right click on this and 'run as admin'
When Command Prompt opens type sfc /scannow and hit enter
Allow the scan to complete and take note of any errors it may fine
Restart your computer once the scan is complete
    Step 5: Run Windows Updates:
Please ensure that all your Windows Updates have been completed.
Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button , clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Update.
In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.
If any updates are found, click Install updates.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    Install Windows updates
Once these steps are complete try to install your software and drivers again. Please let me know if these steps resolved the issue. Should you end up getting any other error messages please let me know. Good luck!

  • Installing printer Envy 4500 on MAC OS X.10- set up bar stuck on "retrieving information"- Help!!!

I bought the HP Envy 4500 because I just upgraded my Mac to OS 10.10 and my office jet would not come along for the ride...  I installed the driver from the HP website and I completed all the steps until the last step "configuation results".
The window reads "retriving information" and it has been "retrieving information" for 20 minutes.  I have cancelled and gone back twice to no avail.  I printed the practice page and that went fine.  What can I try next?

    Hi @Elizabetti,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are trying to install your new HP Envy 4500 with your Mac running the Yosemite 10.10 Operating system. When you attempt to install the setup bar stops on 'retrieving information'. You have cancelled it 2 times with no success. I would like you to go ahead and complete the steps listed below:
    Scrub/ Uninstall
    • Open the Applications folder > HP or Hewlett Packard folder > HP Uninstaller
    • Click continue, click on one of the printers in the list.
    • * Only do this step if you do not have any other HP Printers. Hold down Control, Option and Command, While holding the three buttons down,
    • Click uninstall.
    Reset Printing System
    1. Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
    2. In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.
    3. Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
    4. Click OK to confirm the reset.
    5. Type the correct Name and Password.
    6. Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol..
    Repair Disk Permissions
1.On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
    2.Double-click Disk Utility.
3.Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
4.Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
5.Once the repair is complete, restart the computer.
Restart the printer. Now you can download and install the printer software and install it. Click on the link below to begin the download and follow the on screen instructions:
HP ENVY 4500 series Full Feature Software and Drivers
I hope this helps, please let me know the outcome!
    Thanks,

  • Error When Installing Printer -9672

I am attempting to install an HP Laserjet M1319f MFP on my Imac that is plugged into the USB port on my AE. When I use the printer directly wired to a USB port on the IMac it works great but when I try to select it when it is wired to the AE I Get the -9672 error. Any help would be appreciated. Also is there a way to install the printer on a Windows machine when it is wired to the AE without using Bonjour?
    Thanks.

First make sure you've got the latest drivers for your printer installed, if you're running 10.6.1, connect the printer back to the mac and run software update under the Apple menu, otherwise can be found at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669
Second, once connected to the AE go into the printing prefs and remove the printer that is listed there, click the + to add another printer, the printer browser sheet drops down, select the printer that lists it's kind as "Bonjour" look below at the "Print using" menu, it'll probably be set to the HP driver, if this doesn't work, then you can click this menu and see if there's a gutenprint compatible driver and try that instead
There is a good possibility that the HP printer drivers simply cannot communicate with that printer over the bonjour protocol in which case it's simply incompatible and you'll need to hard wire the printer to your computer, or if you have another mac on the network you can connect it to that and share it via printer sharing. That's what I use, a printer directly connected to my iMac and the Macbooks print wirelessly to it via printer sharing. Best of luck there.

  • Fatal Error Message While attempting to Install :/

    Hi,
I just purchased a new laptop and was hoping to wipe out Windows and install Arch.  When I attempted to repartition my disk using the custom option - I got the following message:
Fatal Error:  Bad primary partition 2: Partition ends in the final partial cylind.
I'm not sure what the second part of the message is trying to tell me.
If it helps this was the output from fdisk -l
Device        Boot       Start   End         Blocks          Id   System
    /dev/sda/                       1    1036       8313856       27  unknown

    /dev/sda3                1048   30402   235780280         7   HPFS/NTFS
Any help would be greatly appreciated - what it means and what I might be able to do to fix it and move on
I have heard a lot of good things about Arch and I'm bound and determined to find a way to get Arch installed.

    ppss,
I burned an image from another distribution and then used their installation program to create new partitions for Linux.  I'm sure you could use gparted and other programs as well.  I would goggle "Linux & partitioning" or Linux & partitioning tools" I'm sure you will find multiple ways to solve the issue.  I'm not sure what the message was about but I was able to install a Linux distro (not Arch sadly, but that is due to another unrelated problem, I'm trying to work through) on my laptop without issues - so it wasn't a hardware issue.
