Hello, anyone here know the input impedance and capacitance of this card? TIA

OK, thank you for the information. More than likely something has gone wrong with your Windows registry. Rather than delve into that, I would suggest that you go back into Device Manager, and 'Uninstall' you 'On Board' sound card, and reboot your machine. While the notebook is off, remove the PCMCIA card, and this will force the OS to reinstall the on board sound into Device Manager and hopefully the registry as well. Once this is done, you should see a return of your on board sound card's functions and be able to hear you on board speakers.
Please note, that it may take a secondary boot prior to hearing your on board sound card kick in. Simply 'Uninstall' the on board sound (and have the 'Drivers and Applications' CD/DVD from your notebook at hand... and the OS installation disc too), reboot then when the system logs back on it should reinstall the on board sound. It may ask you for the drivers CD/DVD and the OS CD/DVD during this process. That is why I suggested that you have it there when you start. Once this is complete, you should reboot and when your system comes back up you should have sound in your notebook's speakers.
If not, leave a message. There is one instance, I can think of, where you would successfully reinstall the on board sound (and it's system registry entries) and the sound NOT come from your speakers.

    The info I'm missing is:

    2) What "Audio Device" to use as well as the "Default Audio Recording Device" in Sony Acid 6.0b.

    After restart, the bios test freezez in the final frazes, and force shutdown and restart, functions well again. The sound card is in while booting.
    No driver confilcts.

  • Audigy 2 ZS Notebook- Popping and Beeping probl

    Hey all, I installed my Audigy 2 zs notebook card today and it seems to work fine except that when using with any media player (have tried Winamp, WMP, mediasource player), i get a horrible beeping/hissing/popping sound at the beggining of most songs and it has frozen my player a few times. Most of the time if I suffer through it and let it play, the noises will cease even when it moves to the next song on it's own, but if i skip tracks, the noise appears again. I am absolutley positi've it is not an issue with my sound files or player programs, as they have all worked perfectly in the past. this is kind of an odd problem and i'm just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience. Thanks.

There are only some soundfonts like the crysis soundfont (to big for its "bad" quality) wich have some dummy-drumkits/ entrys or slightly modified sounds for each than usual. If all drumnkits would be stored in high-quality, the soundfont would be huge... Every synth i know uses the standard drumkit, if the chosen one is not existent. This is not optimal, but it will guarantee, that the the MIDI file or Program/ game will work. The KXDrivers wont do this. SO they are not useable for General MIDI. Only for MIDIs and soundfonts fitting together. But thats not the point of General MIDI. CMSS isnt working with these drivers, too. Dolby decoding/ encoding isnt possible with them, either. These drivers are not bad, but if you want a completely working card, KXdrivers are worthless.

    How are you configuring your speakers? I am using the Audigy 2 zs notebook with ultimate and having no issues what so ever. (i would, of course, love all the features to be available tho). 5. is enabled and cmss is working ok.

    I have an Audigy 2 ZS Notebook I want to coonect my Roland JX3P Midi Keyboard that i want to connect to my sound card but the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook doesn't have any midi connections does anybody know of a Creative product or a 3rd party USB device that will allow me to hook up my Roland keyboard to my laptop.

    Depending on which soundcard you have there, but if your card is capable for
    ASIO -> activate I/O drivers on Sonar/Options/Audio/Drivers -tab (mic/line sources should be listed there --> activate) and select the mic or/and Line sources on tracks "I" - dialog
    WDM/KS -> use the Surround Mixer or windows recording controls for recording source selection (mic should be listed there)
    MME32 - > same w/ WDM/KS
    If you use Asio4All --> same w/ WDM/KS & MME32
    No mic and line source simultaenously w/ WDM/KS and MME32.
    You perhaps be able to do this w/ kX drivers.

    You can also install modded version of Audigy 2 drivers/software but I have never done this w/ Li've! 5. so I can't be sure if you get ASIO support for your card.

    Apple notebook computers use lithium-polymer (MacBooks and MacBook Pros) or lithium-ion (PowerBooks and iBooks) batteries as a portable power source. The newest members of the MacBook Pro lineup have built-in (non-removable) batteries, which are physically larger and use a modified charging scheme for a longer lifespan – you can read more about them on this linked page. The following tips should help you get the most use out of your battery, and help with troubleshooting if you are experiencing problems. A short list of do’s and don’ts is followed by more detailed information, for those who want the details.
    *Do’s & Don’ts*
    DO use your battery frequently and lightly, ideally completing 1-2 charge cycles per week (minimum one charge cycle per month).
    DO properly calibrate your battery when new and approximately every 2-3 months thereafter.
    DON’T fully discharge your battery frequently (the infrequent, periodic calibration is an exception).
    DON’T store your battery (or your computer) in a high temperature environment, such as the trunk of a car, especially a fully-charged battery.
    DON’T run your MacBook or MacBook Pro on AC power with the battery removed.
    *Usage Pattern*
    Lithium-based batteries function best when used fairly frequently but lightly. Apple states +"An ideal use would be a commuter who uses her MacBook Pro on the train, then plugs it in at the office to charge. This keeps the battery juices flowing."+ Note that there is no "memory effect" for lithium-based batteries, unlike nickel-based batteries (NiCd, NiMH) which perform best when fully discharged then fully charged. It is best not to completely discharge your battery, with the exception of calibrating it (see below). It is also not a good idea to run on AC power all the time. Note that when you are running on AC power, there is no danger of "overcharging" your battery – the Mac will not initiate charging of the battery if the current charge is 95% or higher, as described in this kbase article. Basically, a good rule to thumb is to run on AC power much of the time, but run on battery power for a while a few times per week. Using the battery for 2 full charge cycles per week equates to 300 cycles in 3 years, which is the optimal use. An explanation of a "full charge cycle" can be found on this page. Note that for Apple portables with a removable battery, you _should not_ run a MacBook or MacBook Pro on AC power with the battery removed - Apple strongly recommends against this for two reasons: first, the risk of lost data and damage to the hard disk directory structure if the MagSafe plug is accidentally disconnected, and second, the computer will reduce the CPU processor speed. The latter is due to the fact that the CPU will sometimes (for brief periods) require more power than the AC adapter can provide, and the additional power is drawn from the battery; the OS throttles back the CPU to avoid this situation.
    Calibration
    The battery has an integrated microchip that acts as a "fuel gauge." Calibration resets this gauge, which allows the OS to better determine times to charge and discharge the battery. Calibration should be done approximately every two months. Failure to do so for a long period of time can result in the microchip "fuel gauge" in the battery losing the ability to accurately determine the remaining charge, and it will report that there is more charge in the battery than is actually present. As a result, the computer will not initiate Safe Sleep at the proper time, and instead undergo a hard shut down, one of the main causes of hard drive directory damage. Once the battery is in the state resulting from a failure to calibrate, it is not possible to calibrate the battery, and it will need to be replaced. For Apple portables with removable batteries, note that Apple specifies, +"A _properly maintained_ Apple notebook battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 300 full charge and discharge cycles."+ For MacBook Pros with built-in batteries, the battery should maintain 80% of it’s original capacity for 1000 cycles. Calibration is considered part of proper maintenance.

Battery lifespan is how many cycles/years the battery will hold sufficient charge to power the computer for a reasonable time. For Apple portables with removable batteries, a properly maintained lithium-based battery will last approximately 400-500 charge cycles or 3-4 years, +whichever comes first+. Note that this means even an unused battery loses capacity, due to the continuous nature of the chemical reaction and the buildup of oxidation in the cells.     *Battery Health*
    You can check the condition of your battery using System Profiler (Apple menu > About this Mac > More Info > Power section). The relevant numbers are Full Charge Capacity and Cycle Count. Mac OS 10.5 Leopard also provides a readout of battery Condition (not available in 10.4 Tiger), based on those parameters. “Health” refers to the full charge capacity of a battery relative to the nominal full charge capacity of a new battery, expressed as a percentage. Programs such iStat and CoconutBattery report the health, or you can calculate it manually: full charge capacity from System Profiler / nominal new full charge capacity * 100. For Intel-based Mac portables, nominal new full charge capacities are:

Please note that health fluctuates from cycle to cycle, depending on factors such as the pattern of charging within recent cycles, ambient temperatures during use, and time since last calibration. It is normal for health to move up and down within a range of ~10% (e.g. between 86% and 96% over time).
    *Troubleshooting – short battery life and sudden shutdowns*
    If battery life is unacceptably short, it may be due to a background process that is running a high percentage of CPU activity. Check Utilities > Activity Monitor > CPU tab, set the pop-up menu to Active Processes, click on the CPU column to sort, and see if anything is using a high amount of CPU capacity. Short life and sudden shutdowns may also be due to a defective or an old battery - check the battery health and cycle count. If the cycle count is in the 400-500 range (or higher) for removable batteries, the battery has exceeded its useful life, and needs to be replaced. This does not indicate a defective battery - batteries are considered a consumable part, and need to be replaced at the end of their useful life. If the cycle count is less than 300, and the health is less than 80%, the battery may be defective - this applies primarily to the newer, Intel-based Mac portables. For a certain period of time (a rather long period, in fact), Sony produced defective batteries (both Li-polymer and Li-ion) - this issue affected many laptops (Apple, Toshiba, Dell, etc.) that use batteries manufactured by Sony. Apple officially acknowledged these defects for Intel-based notebook computers, as stated on this page, and extended the battery warranty to two years from date purchase for all Core Duo machines bought between February 2006 and April 2007. Battery Update 1.2 was designed to test batteries and expose defects. Note that there were actually two battery replacement programs from Apple concerning Intel-based Macs – both programs are _now officially closed_. One was an exchange/recall for specific serial numbers, and applied only to a relatively small number of 15” MacBook Pros; the other was the more general replacement program for the defective Sony batteries. There was also an exchange/recall for battteries in the 12" iBook G4 and 12"/15" PowerBook G4, also due to manufacturing problems at Sony (these were the batteries with a safety risk).
    Following the above steps should ensure a long and useful life for the battery in your Apple notebook computer. Hope this helps...

Please note that health fluctuates from cycle to cycle, depending on factors such as the pattern of charging within recent cycles, ambient temperatures during use, and time since last calibration. It is normal for health to move up and down within a range of ~10% (e.g. between 86% and 96% over time).
    *Troubleshooting – short battery life and sudden shutdowns*
    If battery life is unacceptably short, it may be due to a background process that is running a high percentage of CPU activity. Check Utilities > Activity Monitor > CPU tab, set the pop-up menu to Active Processes, click on the CPU column to sort, and see if anything is using a high amount of CPU capacity. Short life and sudden shutdowns may also be due to a defective or an old battery - check the battery health and cycle count. If the cycle count is in the 400-500 range (or higher) for removable batteries, the battery has exceeded its useful life, and needs to be replaced. This does not indicate a defective battery - batteries are considered a consumable part, and need to be replaced at the end of their useful life. If the cycle count is less than 300, and the health is less than 80%, the battery may be defective - this applies primarily to the newer, Intel-based Mac portables. For a certain period of time (a rather long period, in fact), Sony produced defective batteries (both Li-polymer and Li-ion) - this issue affected many laptops (Apple, Toshiba, Dell, etc.) that use batteries manufactured by Sony. Apple officially acknowledged these defects for Intel-based notebook computers, as stated on this page, and extended the battery warranty to two years from date purchase for all Core Duo machines bought between February 2006 and April 2007. Battery Update 1.2 was designed to test batteries and expose defects. Note that there were actually two battery replacement programs from Apple concerning Intel-based Macs – both programs are _now officially closed_. One was an exchange/recall for specific serial numbers, and applied only to a relatively small number of 15” MacBook Pros; the other was the more general replacement program for the defective Sony batteries. There was also an exchange/recall for battteries in the 12" iBook G4 and 12"/15" PowerBook G4, also due to manufacturing problems at Sony (these were the batteries with a safety risk).
    Following the above steps should ensure a long and useful life for the battery in your Apple notebook computer. Hope this helps...

  • Connecting PCMCIA Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Notebook to Onkyo HT-S580 Recei

    I have PCMCIA Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Notebook audio card with my Thinkpad laptop.
    I have bought Onkyo HT- S580 Hometheater system. I was hoping to connect the Line out, Line out2, Line out3 jacks to the receiver's Front, Surround(rear) and Center in jacks.
    The color on the Onkyo Recei'ver end are Center - Green , Surround(rear) - Blue , Front - White
    The color on the Creative Card end are Center- Orange , rear - Black , Front - Green
    There is color difference between these two ends . Is it advisable to connect these two jacks ?
    Please recommend the suitable cable type and name for this connection

    Colours may vary --> just connect by the instructions from both manuals.

  • Audigy 2 Z2 Notebook PCMCIA Card cannot install Creative Mediasource 5

    . Every time I try and install CMS5 on the Audigy 2 Z2 Notebook PCMCIA Card, I keep getting this ERROR:
    [color="#ff0000"]DoInstall Fails to Launch C:\Windows\CRF002\CTXInst\Setup.inx DoInstall return error code is - 2472332
    here is the file name of the install: CMS5-BRNR_PCAPP_LB_5_0_44.exe
    I have re-installed, all creative drivers, I even clean installed them, and i still get this error, any ideas?
    EDIT: I fixed the problem, you have to install the older CMS5 before the latest new driver will work............well duh!

    as for the informati've post, thank you for the compliment, i tend to not open a thread at all unless i have spent enough time on the problem and searched around enough for solutions, and after that i only post if it has enough info regarding everything in inside the thread.
    In regard to the known incompatibility list, unfortunatly this is one of the things i checked beforehand already.
    The PCMCIA adapter in my laptop is a Texas Instruments PCI-8x2/7x2/6x2 CardBus-controller.
    Which is one of the most common controllers and should normally not cause any troubles at all, also in another thread on this forum i found a differant driver for it, i even tried that with no result sadly.
    At the moment personally i am thinking the whole problem lies within not being able to uninstall the onboard sound card to full extent somehow, and while i posted here i also have all this info in a direct message sent to creative, and even acer for that matter.
    In hopes of some kind of solution for this so i can keep my hopes up for not having to return the card itself.
    What bugs me is that there is option at all to disable the onboard sound through the bios.
    Because right now whenever i install the ZS notebook card it checks hardware for the onboard first installing it again, then setting priority for the zs notebook.
    This is what seems to result in the crashes through a conflict in drivers in my idea, but thats just a hunch which i cant do anything about currently in regard to testing unless someone has an idea for me to try.

  • Incorrectly calculating hfe/input impedance

    Multisim calculates wrongly the input impedance of a common emitter stage - judging from the voltage drop on the base resistor network it appears it assumes a hfe of about 10, when the real value is over 500. I used the 2N2222A as a model, and the error is there on multiple transistors with hfes many multiples of 10.
    Could you please let me know what I am witnessing here?

    Hi All,
    I also ran this test and found that the HFE value was around the 220 mark. I wonder if you are looking at a different flavour of 2n2222A transistor? A quick look on google revealed the following components
    Microsemi - HFE between 50 and 100
    Philips Semi conductors - HFE 75
    SemiLab - HFE between 100 and 300.
    I think the thing to note is that these transistors can have a quite varying value for HFE. If you navigate to the component browser, find the 2N2222A component and click on the button marked "Detail report". You can see that the hFE value will vary between 35 and 300.

  • Pxi 4070 input impedance

    I am trying to modify the input impedance of the pxi 4070 dmm with the NI DMM property node.  When I set the input impedance to greater than 10 giga ohms, I am getting an error outputted after running niDMM Configure Measurements Digits.vi.  The signal that I am measuring is 5V, so I should be able to use the 10 giga ohm input impedance.  I set the niDMM Configure Measurements Digits to autoscale. Could this be an issue that the pxi-4070 is not allowed to have its input impedance changed when the dmm is set to autoscale?

    You are correct.  When the range is selected, the API automatically selects the input impedence.  If you need to do this programmatically based on the measurement, then you could use a case structure that checks the range being used and then sets the input impedence based on this.  Do you know if the value you are trying to read at the time would set the range to a value that is compatible with the input impedence?

  • Change Input impedance from 1M to 50ohm of 5133

    The input cable and all the other parts are 50ohm. Also I observed a reflection and oscilaition when inject a single pulse wave. If use 50ohm input impedance oscilliscope, it will not appear. I want to change the input impedance to 50ohm. Can I do so. Can I parallel a 50ohm resistor at input, thanks.

    The spec points out only a 1M input impedance, so the only option I see is to use a 50Ohm termination ( usually a 50Ohm feedthrough is hard to find in the lab, but a T coupler and a 50Ohm 'terminator' )
    And yes, you can use one resistor, however depending on the frequency range it is wise to use 4 200Ohm SMD and solder them in a cross from the shield to inner conductor. (And clean the flux )
    (and 200R are better to get than 50R) Don't use standard  wired  resistors, due to their inductivity. Standard SMD is fine up to 1GHz.

  • Audigy 2 ZS Notebook Help Optica

    Hi there,?I want to connect two computers to a system and right now im just using analog on one system and a cable from the line out of my computer to the line in of my speakers. I've been trying to find out what I will need to connect the speakers to the laptop? Its the logitech 5500 it supports optical and coax, so do I need an adapter for it to connect into my laptop or do I just buy any type of optical cable? My other computer has a Sound Blaster Audigy , so I was wondering if i could use coax or optical on any of the cards. Thanks a lot!?Andy

    To connect the Audigy you need a coaxial cable, and?a mono 3.5mm miniplug to RCA jack adapter, connected to the digital out jack in the card. To conect the Audigy Notebook you need an optical toslink to optical miniplug cable or a toslink cable with a toslink to miniplug adapter connected to the shared headphone/spdif out in the pcmcia card. Please note that connecting via spdif you will have only stereo sound unless you pass through bitstream from DVDs.
